Let $(M, g)$ be a compact real analytic Riemannian manifold and $π\colon \widetilde{M} \to M$ its universal cover. Assume that $\widetilde{M}$ can be realised as a manifold definable in an o-minimal structure $Σ$ expanding $\mathbb{R}_{\mathrm{an}}$ in such a way that the pullback metric $\widetilde{g}:=π^*g$ is $Σ$-definable. For instance, this is the case when $\widetilde{M}$ can be realised as a semi-algebraic submanifold in $\mathbb{R}^n$ in such a way that the coefficients of the metric $\widetilde{g}$ are semi-algebraic. We show that there exists a definable smooth map $\widetilde{M} \to \widetilde{K}$ to a compact simply connected $Σ$-definable space $\widetilde{K}$ such that its regular fibres are Riemann locally homogeneous with respect to the metric $\widetilde{g}$. We deduce that under these assumptions $π_1(M)$ is quasi-isometric to a locally homogeneous space. In the case when $M$ is aspherical we show that $(\widetilde{M}, \widetilde{g})$ is a homogeneous Riemannian manifold. A similar result in the setting of complex algebraic geometry was earlier conjectured by Kollár and Pardon (\cite{KP}). Using our results, we prove the conjecture of Kollár-Pardon in the special case of smooth aspherical varieties admitting a bi-definable Kähler metric and discuss the analogues of this conjecture in other branches of geometry.

The characterization of interactions between autophagy modifiers (Atg8-family proteins) and their natural ligands (peptides and proteins) or small molecules is important for a detailed understanding of selective autophagy mechanisms and for design of potential Atg8 inhibitors that affect the autophagy processes in cells. The fluorescence polarization (FP) assay is a rapid, cost-effective and robust method which provides affinity and selectivity information of small molecules and peptide ligands targeting human Atg8 proteins. This chapter introduces the basic principles of FP assays are introduced. In addition, a case study for FP small molecule and peptide interactions with human Atg8 proteins (LC3/GABARAPs) is described. Finally, data analysis and quality control of FP studies are discussed for the proper calculation of Ki values of the measured compounds.

Consider a Lagrangian fibration $π\colon X\to \mathbb P^n$ on a hyperkähler manifold $X$. There are two ways to construct a holomorphic family of deformations of $π$ over $\mathbb C$. The first one is known under the name Shafarevich-Tate family while the second one is the degenerate twistor family constructed by Verbitsky. We show that both families coincide. We prove that for a very general $X$ all members of the Shafarevich-Tate family are Kähler. There is a related notion of the Shafarevich-Tate group associated to a Lagrangian fibration. Its connected component of unity can be shown to be isomorphic to $\mathbb C/Λ$ where $Λ$ is a finitely generated subgroup of $\mathbb C$ and $\mathbb C$ is thought of as the base of the Shafarevich-Tate family. We show that for a very general $X$, projective deformations in the Shafarevich-Tate family correspond to the torsion points in the connected component of unity of the Shafarevich-Tate group. A sufficient condition for a Lagrangian fibration $X$ to be projective is existence of a holomorphic section. We find sufficient cohomological conditions for existence of a deformation in the Shafarevich-Tate family that admits a section.

From superconductors to atomic nuclei, strongly-interacting many-body systems are ubiquitous in nature. Measuring the microscopic structure of such systems is a formidable challenge, often met by particle knockout scattering experiments. While such measurements are fundamental for map** the structure of atomic nuclei, their interpretation is often challenged by quantum mechanical initial- and final-state interactions (ISI/FSI) of the incoming and scattered particles. Here we overcome this fundamental limitation by measuring the quasi-free scattering of 48 GeV/c 12C ions from hydrogen. The distribution of single protons is studied by detecting two protons at large angles in coincidence with an intact 11B nucleus. The 11B detection is shown to select the transparent part of the reaction and exclude the otherwise large ISI/FSI that would break the 11B apart. By further detecting residual 10B and 10Be nuclei, we also identified short-range correlated (SRC) nucleon-nucleon pairs, and provide direct experimental evidence for the separation of the pair wave-function from that of the residual many-body nuclear system. All measured reactions are well described by theoretical calculations that do not contain ISI/FSI distortions. Our results thus showcase a new ability to study the short-distance structure of short-lived radioactive atomic nuclei at the forthcoming FAIR and FRIB facilities. These studies will be pivotal for develo** a ground-breaking microscopic understanding of the structure and properties of nuclei far from stability and the formation of visible matter in the universe.

One possible way to obtain it is by irradiation of a nat-Ta sample with a high-current proton accelerator. Up to now, there was no information in the international experimental nuclear data base (EXFOR) for this reaction. Irradiations of nat-Ta samples performed for other purposes provide an opportunity to address this question. This paper presents the 172m2-Hf independent production cross-sections determined by gamma-ray spectrometry. The nat-Ta(p,x)172m2-Hf excitation function is studied in the 20-3500 MeV energy range. Comparisons with results by several nuclear models (ISABEL, Bertini, INCL4.5+ABLA07, PHITS, CASCADE07, and CEM03.02) used as event-generators in modern transport codes are also reported. However, since such models are generally not able to separately predict ground and isomeric states of reaction products, only 178-Hf independent and cumulative cross-section data are compared.

When the magnetic field was tilted to the axis which was perpendicular to the plane of the bilayer we observed a large difference in critical currents flowing in opposite directions. We found that the largest critical current of the bilayer exceeded the critical current of the superconductor without Co layer in a wide range of the tilted magnetic fields. The theory which takes into account the surface barrier effect for vortex entry and magnetic field of the magnetic layer gave a quantitative explanation of our experimental results.

We demonstrate the existence of a helical state in patterned multilayer nanomagnets. The artificial helimagnets consist of a stack of single domain ferromagnetic disks separated by insulating nonmagnetic spacers. The spiral state is shown to originate from the magnetostatic interaction between nearest and next nearest neighbouring single-domain disks in the stack. Since the magnetostatic interaction for such disks is rather strong, the helical state should be stable at room temperature. The helimagnets were fabricated from a [Co/Si]*3 multilayer using electron beam lithography. The helical state was confirmed by a magnetic stray field analysis using magnetic force microscopy.

At fixed magnetization of the magnet we observed diode effect - the value of the critical current depends on the direction of the transport current. We explain these effects by a influence of the nonuniform magnetic field induced by the magnet on the current distribution in the superconducting strip. We consider a family of non-commutative 4d Minkowski spaces with the signature (1,3) and two types of spaces with the signature (2,2). The Minkowski spaces are defined by the common reflection equation and differ in anti-involutions. There exist two Casimir elements and the fixing of one of them leads to non-commutative "homogeneous" spaces $H_3$, $dS_3$, $AdS_3$ and light-cones. We present the quasi-classical description of the Minkowski spaces. There are three compatible Poisson structures - quadratic, linear and canonical. The quantization of the former leads to the considered Minkowski spaces. We introduce the horospheric generators of the Minkowski spaces. They lead to the horospheric description of $H_3$, $dS_3$ and $AdS_3$. The irreducible representations of Minkowski spaces $H_3$ and $dS_3$ are constructed. We find the eigen-functions of the Klein-Gordon equation in the terms of the horospheric generators of the Minkowski spaces. They give rise to eigen-functions on the $H_3$, $dS_3$, $AdS_3$ and light-cones.

Abstract:
Novel hybrid superconductor/ferromagnetic particles structures are presented. Arrays of Co submicron particles were fabricated on overlap, edge type Josephson junctions and on a narrow Nb microbridge by means of high-resolution e-beam lithography. We observed a strong dependence between the magnetic state of the particles and the field-dependent critical $I_c(H)$ of these structures.

The aim of this paper is to give a group theoretical interpretation of the three types of Bessel-Jackson functions. We consider a family of quantum Lorentz groups and a family of quantum Lobachevsky spaces. For three members of quantum Lobachevsky spaces the Casimir operators give rise to the two-body relativistic open Toda lattice Hamiltonians. Their eigen-functions are the modified Bessel-Jackson functions of three types. We construct the principal series of unitary irreducible representations of the quantum Lorentz groups. Special matrix elements in the irreducible spaces are the Bessel-Macdonald-Jackson functions. They are the wave functions of the two-body relativistic open Toda lattice. We obtain integral representations for these functions.

q-Bessel-Macdonald functions
Authors:
V. -B. K. Rogov
Abstract:
The modified q-Bessel functions and the q-Bessel-Macdonald functions of the first and second kind are introduced. Their definition is based on representations as power series. Recurrence relations, the q-Wronskians, asymptotic decompositions and q-integral representations are received. In addition, the q-Bessel-Macdonald function of kind 3 is determined by its q-integral representation.

Abstract:
The functions on a lattice generated by the integer degrees of $q^2$ are considered, 0<q<1. The $q^2$-translation operator is defined. The multiplicators and the $q^2$-convolutors are defined in the functional spaces which are dual with respect to the $q^2$-Fourier transform. The $q^2$-analog of convolution of two $q^2$-distributions is constructed. The $q^2$-analog of an arbitrary (non integer)…

We define a q-analog of the modified Bessel and Bessel-Macdonald functions. As for the q-Bessel functions of Jackson there is a couple of functions of the both kind. They are arisen in the Harmonic analysis on quantum symmetric spaces similarly to their classical counterpart.
Their definition is based on the power expansions. We derive the recurrence relations, difference equations, q-Wronskians, and an analog of asymptotic expansions which turns out is exact in some domain if $q\neq 1$. Some relations for the basic hypergeometric function which follow from this fact are discussed.

We consider the quantum Lobachevsky space ${\bf L}_q^3$, which is defined as subalgebra of the Hopf algebra ${\cal A}_q(SL_2({\bf C}))$. The Iwasawa decomposition of ${\cal A}_q(SL_2({\bf C}))$ introduced by Podles and Woronowicz allows to consider the quantum analog of the horospheric coordinates on ${\bf L}_q^3$. The action of the Casimir element, which belongs to the dual to ${\cal A}_q$ quantum group $U_q(SL_2({\bf C}))$, on some subspace in ${\bf L}_q^3$ in these coordinates leads to a second order difference operator on the infinite one-dimensional lattice. In the continuos limit $q\rightarrow 1$ it is transformed into the Schrödinger Hamiltonian, which describes zero modes into the Liouville field theory (the Liouville quantum mechanics). We calculate the spectrum (Brillouin zones) and the eigenfunctions of this operator. They are $q$-continuos Hermit polynomials, which are particular case of the Macdonald or Rogers-Askey-Ismail polynomials. The scattering in this problem corresponds to the scattering of first two level dressed excitations in the $Z_N$ Baxter model in the very peculiar limit when the anisotropy parameter $\ga$ and $N~\rightarrow\infty$, or, equivalently, $(\ga, N)\rightarrow 0$.
