In 1944 Zariski discovered that Bertini's theorem on variable singular points is no longer true when we pass from a field of characteristic zero to a field of positive characteristic. In other words, he found fibrations by singular curves, which only exist in positive characteristic. Such fibrations are connected with many interesting phenomena. For instance, the extension of Enrique's classification of surfaces to positive characteristic (Bombieri and Mumford in 1976), the counterexamples of Kodaira vanishing theorem (Mukai in 2013 and Zheng in 2016) and the isolated singularities with infinity Milnor number (Hefez, Rodrigues and Salomão in 2019). In this work we are going to show that the smoothing process introduced by Shimada in 1991 can be used to classify the set of fibrations by genus two singular curves, up to isomorphism among their generic fibers, such that their smoothing are elliptic fibrations on rational surfaces. Moreover we will also describe the vector fields that can be used to recover such fibrations by singular curves via quotient of rational elliptic surfaces.

A consequence of our characterization is an effective solution to a problem dating back to the 1980's, called the Reconstruction Problem of the hypersurface singularity from its moduli algebra. Our results work regardless of whether the hypersurface singularity is isolated or not.

On Tjurina Ideals of Hypersurface Singularities
Authors:

Abstract:
The Tjurina ideal of a germ of an holomorphic function $f$ is the ideal of $\mathscr{O}_{\mathbbm{C}^n,0}$ - the ring of those germs at $0\in\mathbbm{C}^n$ - generated by $f$ itself and by its partial derivatives. Here it is denoted by $T(f)$. The ideal $T(f)$ gives the structure of closed subscheme of $(\mathbbm{C}^n,0)$ to the hypersurface singularity defined by $f$, being an object of central i…

Here it is denoted by $T(f)$. The ideal $T(f)$ gives the structure of closed subscheme of $(\mathbbm{C}^n,0)$ to the hypersurface singularity defined by $f$, being an object of central interest in Singularity Theory. In this note we introduce \emph{$T$-fullness} and \emph{$T$-dependence}, two easily verifiable properties for arbitrary ideals of germs of holomorphic functions. These two properties allow us to give necessary and sufficient conditions on an ideal $I\subset \mathscr{O}_{\mathbbm{C}^n,0}$, for the equation $I=T(f)$ to admit a solution $f$.

The Jordan--Moore--Gibson--Thompson (JMGT) equation is a well-established and recently widely studied model for nonlinear acoustics (NLA). It is a third-order (in time) semilinear Partial Differential Equation (PDE) model with the distinctive feature of predicting the propagation of ultrasound waves at \textit{finite} speed due to heat phenomenon know as \textit{second sound} which leads to the hyperbolic character of heat propagation. In this paper, we consider the problem of stabilizability of the linear (known as) MGT--equation. We consider a special geometry that is suitable for studying the problem of controlling (from the boundary) the acoustic pressure involved in medical treatments like lithotripsy, thermotherapy, sonochemistry, or any other procedures using High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU).

In this letter we present emergent screening of magnetic monopole and dipole by the presence of 20nm aluminum cover layer. Our results were obtained in base of magnetic atomic force measurements, performed after external magnetic field steps application. We show that the evolution of magnetization and monopole population is affected by the aluminum presence and attribute that phenomena to the proximity effect, which is responsible for the magnetization vanish of the firstatomic layers at the interface. Using experimental values to estimate the decrease in the nano-magnetic dipole value used in an emergent excitation model and in the switching field distribution heterogeneity used in simulations, we observe a very good agreement among experimental and simulation results. The presented emergent screening could be used in new ASI geometries for thermodynamic activation or proposition of devices with selective magnetic monopole mobility.

The Milnor number of an isolated hypersurface singularity, defined as the codimension $μ(f)$ of the ideal generated by the partial derivatives of a power series $f$ that represents locally the hypersurface, is an important topological invariant of the singularity over the complex numbers. However it may loose its significance when the base field is arbitrary. It turns out that if the ground field is of positive characteristic, this number depends upon the equation $f$ representing the hypersurface, hence it is not an invariant of the hypersurface. For a plane branch represented by an irreducible convergent power series $f$ in two indeterminates over the complex numbers, it was shown by Milnor that $μ(f)$ always coincides with the conductor $c(f)$ of the semigroup of values $S(f)$ of the branch. This is not true anymore if the characteristic of the ground field is positive. In this paper we show that, over algebraically closed fields of arbitrary characteristic, this is true, provided that the semigroup $S(f)$ is tame, that is, the characteristic of the field does not divide any of its minimal generators.

The Milnor number of an isolated hypersurface singularity, defined as the codimension $μ(f)$ of the ideal generated by the partial derivatives of a power series $f$ whose zeros represent locally the hypersurface, is an important topological invariant of the singularity over the complex numbers, but its meaning changes dramatically when the base field is arbitrary. It turns out that if the ground field is of positive characteristic, this number is not even invariant under contact equivalence of the local equation $f$. In this paper we study the variation of the Milnor number in the contact class of $f$, giving necessary and sufficient conditions for its invariance. We also relate, for an isolated singularity, the finiteness of $μ(f)$ to the smoothness of the generic fiber $f=s$. Finally, we prove that the Milnor number coincides with the conductor of a plane branch when the characteristic does not divide any of the minimal generators of its semigroup of values, showing in particular that this is a sufficient (but not necessary) condition for the invariance of the Milnor number in the whole equisingularity class of $f$.

In this work we study demagnetization protocols for an artificial spin ice in a triangular geometry. Our results show that a simple hysteresis-like process is very efficient in driving the system to its ground state, even for a relatively strong disorder in the system, confirming previous expectations. In addition, transitions between the magnetized state and the ground state were observed to be mediated by the creation and propagation of vertices that behave like magnetic monopoles pseudo-particles. This is an important step towards a more detailed experimental study of monopole-like excitations in artificial spin ice systems.
