However, the physical interpretation of these objects, and more generally of multi-times variables, remains ambiguous, which may be one of the reasons why they are so difficult to measure. In this work, we introduce and advance the perspective that a two-time correlator should actually be regarded as an average involving a novel single physical observable, one that cannot be rephrased in terms of the primitive ones, according to quantum principles. In particular, we provide examples showing that the presumed constituents of a two-time correlator and the proposed two-time operator itself cannot be simultaneous elements of the physical reality.

It is notorious that quantum mechanics (QM) cannot predict well-defined values for all physical quantities. Less well-known, however, is the fact that QM is unable to furnish probabilistic predictions even in emblematic scenarios such as the double-slit experiment. In contrast, equipped with postulate trajectories, Bohmian mechanics (BM) has inherited more predictive power. It follows that, contrary to common belief, QM and BM are not just different interpretations but distinct theories. This work formalizes the aforementioned assertions and illustrates them through three case studies: (i) free particle, (ii) free fall under a uniform gravitational field, and (iii) the double-slit experiment. Specifically, we introduce a prescription for constructing a flight-time probability distribution within generic trajectory-equipped theories. We then apply our formalism to BM and derive probability distributions that are unreachable by QM. Our results can, in principle, be tested against real experiments, thereby assessing the validity of Bohmian trajectories.

The presence of undesired background areas associated with potential noise and unknown spectral characteristics degrades the performance of hyperspectral data processing. Masking out unwanted regions is key to addressing this issue. Processing only regions of interest yields notable improvements in terms of computational costs, required memory, and overall performance. The proposed processing pipeline encompasses two fundamental parts: regions of interest mask generation, followed by the application of hyperspectral data processing techniques solely on the newly masked hyperspectral cube. The novelty of our work lies in the methodology adopted for the preliminary image segmentation. We employ the Segment Anything Model (SAM) to extract all objects within the dataset, and subsequently refine the segments with a zero-shot Grounding Dino object detector, followed by intersection and exclusion filtering steps, without the need for fine-tuning or retraining. To illustrate the efficacy of the masking procedure, the proposed method is deployed on three challenging applications scenarios that demand accurate masking; shredded plastics characterization, drill core scanning, and litter monitoring. The numerical evaluation of the proposed masking method on the three applications is provided along with the used hyperparameters. The scripts for the method will be available at https://github.com/hifexplo/Masking.

Optical hyperspectral cameras capture the spectral reflectance of materials. Since many materials behave as heterogeneous intimate mixtures with which each photon interacts differently, the relationship between spectral reflectance and material composition is very complex. Quantitative validation of spectral unmixing algorithms requires high-quality ground truth fractional abundance data, which are very difficult to obtain. In this work, we generated a comprehensive laboratory ground truth dataset of intimately mixed mineral powders. For this, five clay powders (Kaolin, Roof clay, Red clay, mixed clay, and Calcium hydroxide) were mixed homogeneously to prepare 325 samples of 60 binary, 150 ternary, 100 quaternary, and 15 quinary mixtures. Thirteen different hyperspectral sensors have been used to acquire the reflectance spectra of these mixtures in the visible, near, short, mid, and long-wavelength infrared regions (350-15385) nm. {\color{black} Overlaps in wavelength regions due to the operational ranges of each sensor} and variations in acquisition conditions {\color{black} resulted in} a large amount of spectral variability. Ground truth composition is given by construction, but to verify that the generated samples are sufficiently homogeneous, XRD and XRF elemental analysis is performed. We believe these data will be beneficial for validating advanced methods for nonlinear unmixing and material composition estimation, including studying spectral variability and training supervised unmixing approaches. The datasets can be downloaded from the following link: https://github.com/VisionlabUA/Multisensor_datasets.

Factorization is the most fundamental way to determine if a number $n$ is prime or composite. Yet, this approach becomes impracticable when considering large values of $n$, a difficulty that is exploited by cryptographic protocols. We propose an alternative method to decide the primality of a natural number, that is based on the analysis of the evolution of the linear entanglement entropy. Specifically, we show that a singular behavior in the amplitudes of the Fourier series of this entropy is associated with prime numbers. We also discuss how this idea could be experimentally implemented and examine possible connections between our results and the zeros of the Riemann zeta function.

In this work, we consider two spins initially prepared in a product of coherent states and study their entanglement dynamics due to a general interacting Hamiltonian. We adopt an approach that allowed the derivation of a semiclassical formula for the linear entropy of the reduced density operator, assumed as an entanglement quantifier. The resulting expression depends on sets of four trajectories, originated from the underlying classical description, and having mutually connected final phase-space points. Such classical elements, which are capable to reproduce the quantum entanglement even for long values of propagation time, arise when we assume a proper analytical continuation of the classical phase space onto a complex domain. We apply this theory to a particular physical system, showing that taking into account only a few sets of complex trajectories is enough to get an excellent agreement between the semiclassical linear entropy of the reduced density operator and its quantum counterpart.

Thought experiments based on the double-slit interferometer had a crucial role to develop ideas concerning the wave-particle duality and the Bohr's complementarity principle. Ideally, a slit with a sufficiently low mass recoils due to the passage of the photon. This motion denounces the path taken by the light and suppresses any attempt to observe an interference pattern. In real life, however, available which-way information in such a setup is significantly impaired by the typical magnitudes of photons and slits, making the verification of the effect almost impossible. Here, we extend this discussion by applying similar ideas to the Mach-Zehnder interferometer. That is, we study the consequences of the beam-splitter recoil, during the passage of the photon, over the interference pattern produced by the device. Unlike the double-slit experiment, this recoil can now be encoded in the wavelength of the photon itself, which, in principle, is more easily accessed. Fortuitously, the model used to describe the interaction between the idealized beam-splitter and the photon clearly indicates that an interferometer based on Compton's effect could be build to study wave-particle duality. We follow this hint, finding realistic experimental parameters needed to observe the trade-off between wave and corpuscular behaviors in such a modified interferometer.

In this paper we find necessary and sufficient conditions for a nondegenerate arbitrary signature manifold $M^n$ to be realized as a submanifold in the large class of warped product manifolds $\varepsilon I\times_a\mathbb{M}^{N}_λ(c)$, where $\varepsilon=\pm 1,\ a:I\subset\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}^+$ is the scale factor and $\mathbb{M}^{N}_λ(c)$ is the $N$-dimensional semi-Riemannian space form of index $λ$ and constant curvature $c\in\{-1,1\}.$ We prove that if $M^n$ satisfies Gauss, Codazzi and Ricci equations for a submanifold in $\varepsilon I\times_a\mathbb{M}^{N}_λ(c)$, along with some additional conditions, then $M^n$ can be isometrically immersed into $\varepsilon I\times_a\mathbb{M}^{N}_λ(c)$. This comprises the case of hypersurfaces immersed in semi-Riemannian warped products proved by M.A. Lawn and M. Ortega (see [6]), which is an extension of the isometric immersion result obtained by J. Roth in the Lorentzian products $\mathbb{S}^n\times\mathbb{R}_1$ and $\mathbb{H}^n\times\mathbb{R}_1$ (see [12]), where $\mathbb{S}^n$ and $\mathbb{H}^n$ stand for the sphere and hyperbolic space of dimension $n$, respectively. This last result, in turn, is an expansion to pseudo-Riemannian manifolds of the isometric immersion result proved by B. Daniel in $\mathbb{S}^n\times\mathbb{R}$ and $\mathbb{H}^n\times\mathbb{R}$ (see [2]), one of the first generalizations of the classical theorem for submanifolds in space forms (see [13]). Although additional conditions to Gauss, Codazzi and Ricci equations are not necessary in the classical theorem for submanifolds in space forms, they appear in all other cases cited above.

The present article is concerned with the use of approximations in the calculation of the many-body density of states (MBDS) of a system with total energy E, composed by N bosons. In the mean-field framework, an integral expression for MBDS, which is proper to be performed by asymptotic expansions, can be derived. However, the standard second order steepest descent method cannot be applied to this integral when the ground-state is sufficiently populated. Alternatively, we derive a uniform formula for MBDS, which is potentially able to deal with this regime. In the case of the one-dimensional harmonic oscillator, using results found in the number theory literature, we show that the uniform formula improves the standard expression achieved by means of the second order method.

Recently, Bohr's complementarity principle was assessed in setups involving delayed choices. These works argued in favor of a reformulation of the aforementioned principle so as to account for situations in which a quantum system would simultaneously behave as wave and particle. Here we defend a framework that, supported by well-known experimental results and consistent with the decoherence paradigm, allows us to interpret complementarity in terms of correlations between the system and an {\em informer}. Our proposal offers formal definition and operational interpretation for the dual behavior in terms of both nonlocal resources and the couple work-information. Most importantly, our results provide a generalized information-based trade-off for the wave-particle duality and a causal interpretation for delayed-choice experiments.

From the principle that there is no absolute description of a physical state, we advance the approach according to which one should be able to describe the physics from the perspective of a quantum particle. The kinematics seen from this frame of reference is shown to be rather unconventional. In particular, we discuss several subtleties emerging in the relative formulation of central notions such as vector states, the classical limit, entanglement, uncertainty relations, and the complementary principle. A Hamiltonian formulation is derived as well which correctly encapsulates effects of fictitious forces associated with the accelerated motion of the frame. Our approach shows, therefore, how to formulate nonrelativistic quantum mechanics within noninertial reference frames which can be consistently described by the theory, with no appeal to classical elements.

We analyze the dynamical generation of entanglement in systems of two interacting spins initially prepared in a product of spin coherent states. For arbitrary time-independent Hamiltonians, we derive a semiclassical expression for the purity of the reduced density matrix as function of time. The final formula, subsidiary to the linear entropy, shows that the short-time dynamics of entanglement depends exclusively on the stability of trajectories governed by the underlying classical Hamiltonian. Also, this semiclassical measure is shown to reproduce the general properties of its quantum counterpart and give the expected result in the large spin limit. The accuracy of the semiclassical formula is further illustrated in a problem of phase exchange for two particles of spin $j$.

The notion of integrability is discussed for classical nonautonomous systems with one degree of freedom. The analysis is focused on models which are linearly spanned by finite Lie algebras. By constructing the autonomous extension of the time-dependent Hamiltonian we prove the existence of two invariants in involution which are shown to obey the criterion of functional independence. The implication of this result is that chaotic motion cannot exist in these systems. In addition, if the invariant manifold is compact, then the system is Liouville integrable. As an application, we discuss regimes of integrability in models of dynamical tunneling and parametric resonance, and in the dynamics of two-level systems under generic classical fields. A corresponding quantum algebraic structure is shown to exist which satisfies analog conditions of Liouville integrability and reproduces the classical dynamics in an appropriate limit within the Weyl-Wigner formalism. The quantum analog is then conjectured to be integrable as well.

Depending on the parameters involved, more than one trajectory may contribute to the calculation. Eventually, however, two contributing trajectories coalesce, characterizing what is called phase space caustic. In this case, the usual semiclassical formula for the propagator diverges, so that a uniform approximation is required to avoid this singularity. In this paper, we present a non-trivial application illustrating this scenario, and showing the accuracy of the uniform formula that we have previously derived.

The dynamical generation of entanglement in closed bipartite systems is investigated in the semiclassical regime. We consider a model of two particles, initially prepared in a product of coherent states, evolving in time according to a generic Hamiltonian, and derive a formula for the linear entropy of the reduced density matrix using the semiclassical propagator in the coherent-state representation. The formula is explicitly written in terms of quantities that define the stability of classical trajectories of the underlying classical system. The formalism is then applied to the problem of two nonlinearly coupled harmonic oscillators and the result is shown to be in remarkable agreement with the exact quantum measure of entanglement in the short-time regime. An important byproduct of our approach is a unified semiclassical formula which contemplates both the coherent-state propagator and its complex conjugate.

We consider a semiclassical approximation for the time evolution of an originally gaussian wave packet in terms of complex trajectories. We also derive additional approximations replacing the complex trajectories by real ones. These yield three different semiclassical formulae involving different real trajectories. One of these formulae is Heller's thawed gaussian approximation. The other approximations are non-gaussian and may involve several trajectories determined by mixed initial-final conditions. These different formulae are tested for the cases of scattering by a hard wall, scattering by an attractive gaussian potential, and bound motion in a quartic oscillator. The formula with complex trajectories gives good results in all cases. The non-gaussian approximations with real trajectories work well in some cases, whereas the thawed gaussian works only in very simple situations.

Abstract:
We study the quantum dynamics of neutral particle that posseses a permanent magnetic and electric dipole moments in the presence of an electromagnetic field. The analysis of this dynamics demonstrates the appearance of a quantum phase that combines the Aharonov-Casher effect and the He-Mckellar-Wilkens effect. We demonstrate that this phase is a special case of the Berry's quantum phase. A series of field configurations where this phase would be found are presented. A generalized Casella-type effect is found in one these configurations. A physical scenario for the quantum phase in an interferometric experiment is proposed.

Abstract:
In this letter we investigate the quantum dynamics of a quasiparticle in the presence of a charged screw dislocation submitted to a uniform magnetic field. Analysing the quantum scattering for this quasiparticle we observed the appearance of a topological quantum phase in the solution and demonstrate that this phenomenon is the solid state analog of the He-McKeller-Wilkens effect.
