Observable implications of geometrical and dynamical aspects of freeze-out in heavy ion collisions
Abstract: Using an analytical parameterization of hadronic freeze-out in relativistic heavy ion collisions, we present a detailed study of the connections between features of the freeze-out configuration and physical observables. We focus especially on anisotropic freeze-out configurations (expected in general for collisions at finite impact parameter), azimuthally-sensitive HBT interferometry, and final-… ▽ More

Space-time analysis of reaction at RHIC
Abstract: Space-time information about the Au-Au collisions produced at RHIC are key tools to understand the evolution of the system and especially assess the presence of collective behaviors. Using a parameterization of the system's final state relying on collective expansion, we show that pion source radii can be tied together with transverse mass spectra and elliptic flow within the same framework. The… ▽ More

The STAR Time Projection Chamber: A Unique Tool for Studying High Multiplicity Events at RHIC
Abstract: The STAR Time Projection Chamber (TPC) is used to record collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The TPC is the central element in a suite of detectors that surrounds the interaction vertex. The TPC provides complete coverage around the beam-line, and provides complete tracking for charged particles within +- 1.8 units of pseudo-rapidity of the center-of-mass frame. Charged par… ▽ More

Non-identical particle correlation analysis as a probe of transverse flow
Abstract: Non-identical two particle correlation functions probe asymmetries between the average space-time emission points of different particle species. The system collective expansion would produce such asymmetry because massive particles, such as protons, are on average more pushed towards the edge of the system, than lighter ones, i.e. pions. Measuring pion-kaon, pion-proton and kaon-proton correlati… ▽ More

Charged Particle Detection using a CMOS Active Pixel Sensor
Abstract: Active Pixel Sensor (APS) technology has shown promise for next-generation vertex detectors. This paper discusses the design and testing of two generations of APS chips. Both are arrays of 128 by 128 pixels, each 20 by 20 micro-m. Each array is divided into sub-arrays in which different sensor structures (4 in the first version and 16 in the second) and/or readout circuits are employed. Measurem… ▽ More

Two-particle correlations in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 130$ GeV
Abstract: We present preliminary results on two new two-particle correlation analyses of Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 130 GeV$ performed by the STAR collaboration. Two-pion interferometry with respect to the reaction plane shows that the pion source can be described as an ellipse extended out of the reaction plane. Analysing the pion-kaon correlation functions, we show that, on average, pions and… ▽ More
