The technology of superconductor-semiconductor nanowire devices has matured in the last years in the quest for topological quantum computing. This makes it feasible to make more complex and sophisticated devices. We investigate multi-terminal superconductor-semiconductor wires to access feasibility of another topological phenomenon: Weyl singularities in their spectrum. We have found an abundance of Weyl singularities for devices with intermediate size of the electrodes. We describe their properties and the ways the singularities emerge and disappear upon variation of the setup parameters.

In this Article we address the definition and values of topological numbers of the manifolds of wavefunctions - bands obtained by quantum superposition of the wavefunctions that belong to topologically distinct manifolds. The problem, although simple in essence, can be formulated as a paradox: it may seem that quantum superposition implies non-integer topological numbers.
We show that the results are different for superpositions that are created dynamically and for those obtained by stationary mixing of the manifolds. For dynamical superpositions we have found that the observable related to the topological number is non-integer indeed. For static superpositions the resulting bands bear integer topological numbers. We illustrate how the number quantization is restored upon avoided crossing of topologically distinct subbands. The crossings lead to the exchange of topological numbers between the bands. We consider complicated phase diagrams arising from this and show the absence of triple critical points and abundance of quadruple critical points that are rare in thermodynamic phase diagrams. We illustrate these features considering the bilayer Haldane model.

We study the quantum corrections to the conductivity of the two-dimensional disordered interacting electron system in the diffusive regime due to inelastic scattering off rare magnetic impurities. We focus on the case of very different g-factors for electrons and magnetic impurities. We study the quantum corrections to the conductivity of the two-dimensional disordered interacting electron system in the diffusive regime due to inelastic scattering off rare magnetic impurities. We focus on the case of very different g-factors for electrons and magnetic impurities. Within the Born approximation for the inelastic scattering off magnetic impurities we find additional temperature-dependent corrections to the conductivity of the Altshuler-Aronov type. Our results demonstrate that the low temperature transport in interacting disordered electron systems with rare magnetic impurities is more interesting than it was commonly believed on the basis of treatment of magnetic impurity spins as classical ones.

Abstract:
Using the two-loop analysis and the background field method we demonstrate that the local pure scaling operators without derivatives in the Finkel'stein nonlinear sigma model can be constructed by straightforward generalization of the corresponding operators for the noninteracting case. Using the two-loop analysis and the background field method we demonstrate that the local pure scaling operators without derivatives in the Finkel'stein nonlinear sigma model can be constructed by straightforward generalization of the corresponding operators for the noninteracting case. These pure scaling operators demonstrate multifractal behavior and describe mesoscopic fluctuations of the single-particle Green's function. We determine anomalous dimensions of all such pure scaling operators in the interacting theory within the two-loop approximation.

Inelastic electron scattering off a quantum dot in the cotunneling regime: the signature of mesoscopic Stoner instability

We explore the inelastic electron scattering cross section off a quantum dot close to the Stoner instability. We focus on the regime of strong Coulomb blockade in which the scattering cross section is dominated by the cotunneling processes. For large enough exchange interaction the quantum dot acquires a finite total spin in the ground state. In this, so-called mesoscopic Stoner instability, regime we find that at low enough temperatures the inelastic scattering cross section (including the contribution due to an elastic electron spin-flip) for an electron with a low energy with respect to the chemical potential is different from the case of a magnetic impurity with the same spin. This difference stems from (i) presence of a low-lying many-body states of a quantum dot and (ii) the correlations of the tunneling amplitudes. Our results provide a possible explanation for absence of the dephasing rate saturation at low temperatures in recent experiment [N. Teneh, A. Yu. Kuntsevich, V. M. Pudalov, and M. Reznikov, Phys. Rev. Lett. 109, 226403 (2012)] in which existence of local spin droplets in disordered electron liquid has been unraveled.

We explore a combined effect of hexagonal war** and of finite effective mass on both the tunneling density of electronic states (TDOS) and structure of Landau levels (LLs) of 3D topological insulators. We find the increasing war** to transform the square-root van Hove singularity into a logarithmic one. For moderate war** an additional logarithmic singularity and a jump in the TDOS appear. This phenomenon is experimentally verified by direct measurements of the local TDOS in Bi$_2$Te$_3$. By combining the perturbation theory and the WKB approximation we calculate the LLs in the presence of hexagonal war**. We predict that due to the degeneracy removal the evolution of LLs in the magnetic field is drastically modified.
