Involutions in Coxeter groups
Abstract: We combinatorially characterize the number $\mathrm{cc}_2$ of conjugacy classes of involutions in any Coxeter group in terms of higher rank odd graphs. This notion naturally generalizes the concept of odd graphs, used previously to count the number of conjugacy classes of reflections. We provide uniform bounds and discuss some extremal cases, where the number $\mathrm{cc}_2$ is smallest or largest… ▽ More

The Sigma invariants for the Golden Mean Thompson group
Abstract: We use a method of Bieri, Geoghegan and Kochloukova to calculate the BNSR-invariants for the irrational slope Thompson's group $F_τ$. To do so we establish conditions under which the Sigma invariants coincide with those of a subgroup of finite index, addressing a problem posed by Strebel.

Reidemeister numbers for arithmetic Borel subgroups in type A
Abstract: The Reidemeister number $R(\varphi)$ of a group automorphism $\varphi \in \mathrm{Aut}(G)$ encodes the number of orbits of the $\varphi$-twisted conjugation action of $G$ on itself, and the Reidemeister spectrum of $G$ is defined as the set of Reidemeister numbers of all of its automorphisms. We obtain a sufficient criterion for some groups of triangular matrices over integral domains to have prop… ▽ More

The galaxy of Coxeter groups
Abstract: In this paper we introduce the galaxy of Coxeter groups -- an infinite dimensional, locally finite, ranked simplicial complex which captures isomorphisms between Coxeter systems. In doing so, we would like to suggest a new framework to study the isomorphism problem for Coxeter groups. We prove some structural results about this space, provide a full characterization in small ranks and propose many… ▽ More

On the top-dimensional cohomology of arithmetic Chevalley groups
Abstract: Let $\mathbb{K}$ be a number field with ring of integers $\mathfrak{O}$ and let $\mathcal{G}$ be a Chevalley group scheme not of type $\mathtt{E}_8$, $\mathtt{F}_4$ or $\mathtt{G}_2$. We use the theory of Tits buildings and a result of Tóth on Steinberg modules to prove that $H^{\operatorname{vcd}}(\mathcal{G}(\mathfrak{O}); \mathbb{Q}) = 0$ if $\mathfrak{O}$ is Euclidean.

Thompson-like groups, Reidemeister numbers, and fixed points
Abstract: We investigate fixed-point properties of automorphisms of groups similar to R. Thompson's group $F$. Revisiting work of Gonçalves-Kochloukova, we deduce a cohomological criterion to detect infinite fixed-point sets in the abelianization, implying the so-called property $R_\infty$. Using the BNS $Σ$-invariant and drawing from works of Gonçalves-Sankaran-Strebel and Zaremsky, we show that our tool a… ▽ More

Canonical decompositions and algorithmic recognition of spatial graphs
Abstract: We prove that there exists an algorithm for determining whether two piecewise-linear spatial graphs are isomorphic. In its most general form, our theorem applies to spatial graphs furnished with vertex colorings, edge colorings and/or edge orientations. We first show that spatial graphs admit canonical decompositions into blocks, that is, spatial graphs that are non-separable and have no cut verti… ▽ More

Twisted conjugacy in soluble arithmetic groups
Abstract: Reidemeister numbers of group automorphisms encode the number of twisted conjugacy classes of groups and might yield information about self-maps of spaces related to the given objects. Here we address a question posed by Gonçalves and Wong in the mid 2000s: we construct an infinite series of compact connected solvmanifolds (that are not nilmanifolds) of strictly increasing dimensions and all of wh… ▽ More

On the finiteness length of some soluble linear groups
Abstract: Given a commutative unital ring $R$, we show that the finiteness length of a group $G$ is bounded above by the finiteness length of the Borel subgroup of rank one $\mathbf{B}_2^\circ(R)=\left( \begin{smallmatrix} * & * \\ 0 & * \end{smallmatrix} \right)\leq\mathrm{SL}_2(R)$ whenever $G$ admits certain $R$-representations with metabelian image. Presentations of parabolics in some elementary Chevalley-Demazure groups
Abstract: Given a universal elementary Chevalley-Demazure group $E_Φ^{sc}(R)$ for which its (standard) parabolic subgroups are finitely generated, we consider the problem of classifying which parabolics $P(R) \subset E_Φ^{sc}(R)$ are finitely presented. We show that, under mild assumptions, this is equivalent to the finite presentability of a suitable retract of $P$ which contains the Levi factor. If the ba… ▽ More
