Deconfinement to confinement by generalizing BRST symmetry on the sphere

Recently it has been shown that the theory in the quadratic gauge on 4-sphere, $\mathbb{S}^{4}$ consists of two phases namely, the confined and the deconfined phases. A suitable finite field dependent BRST (FFBRST) transformation interrelates two different gauge fixed theories. In this paper, we use the FFBRST technique on the curved space for the first time and elaborate a novel application of it. We propose two different formulations of this technique that transform the deconfined phase action on sphere to the confined phase action on sphere inside the quadratic gauge. Both proposed passages change the phase with BRST invariance to the phase without BRST invariance unlike usual connections where the FFBRST operation leave the BRST symmetry intact and there is a unique field theoretic essence of them, which makes them particularly important to study. Thus, the two different field redefinitions act as a new mechanism that execute phase transition between two real QCD phases on 4-sphere other than ghost condensation process.

The finite field dependent BRST (FFBRST) technique generally interrelates two different gauge fixed theories. Here we propose a new and unique FFBRST transformation that transforms the effective theory in Lorenz gauge, which represents perturbative or deconfined phase of QCD to massive gauge theory. The exercise serves two purposes. First is of course that it is a distinct connection where one of the theories is not gauge fixed and BRST invariant therefore, it is expected to give newer insights into FFBRST technique itself. Second is that a particular case of this transformation holds a novel physical significance of acting as general mechanism for confinement across two different gauge theories. Thus, the present task identifies a profound non-perturbative implication of the BRST symmetry in a general setting.

As GPU availability has increased and programming support has matured, a wider variety of applications are being ported to these platforms. Many parallel applications contain fine-grained synchronization idioms; as such, their correct execution depends on a degree of relative forward progress between threads (or thread groups). Unfortunately, many GPU programming specifications say almost nothing about relative forward progress guarantees between workgroups. Although prior work has proposed a spectrum of plausible progress models for GPUs, cross-vendor specifications have yet to commit to any model.
This work is a collection of tools experimental data to aid specification designers when considering forward progress guarantees in programming frameworks. As a foundation, we formalize a small parallel programming language that captures the essence of fine-grained synchronization. We then provide a means of formally specifying a progress model, and develop a termination oracle that decides whether a given program is guaranteed to eventually terminate with respect to a given progress model. Next, we formalize a constraint for concurrent programs that require relative forward progress to terminate. Using this constraint, we synthesize a large set of 483 progress litmus tests. Combined with the termination oracle, this allows us to determine the expected status of each litmus test -- i.e. whether it is guaranteed eventual termination -- under various progress models. We present a large experimental campaign running the litmus tests across 8 GPUs from 5 different vendors. Our results highlight that GPUs have significantly different termination behaviors under our test suite. Most notably, we find that Apple and ARM GPUs do not support the linear occupancy-bound model, an intuitive progress model defined by prior work and hypothesized to describe the workgroup schedulers of existing GPUs.

We aim to investigate the infrared regime in the effective theory of the new quadratic gauge in the physical compact space by defining it on 4-sphere. Abelian dominance is characterized by off-diagonal gluons acquiring dynamical masses and it hints at existence of confinement. We do observe Abelian dominance in the ghost condensed vacuum of this theory on 4-sphere. Along with this observation, we find an unusual result that mass of an off-diagonal gluon on 4-sphere is position dependent in this theory as a consequence of the curved geometry. This suggests that the curvature of 4-sphere does not change the infrared behaviour of present theory on 4-sphere from that of the theory with the same quadratic gauge in Euclidean spacetime as Abelian dominance is observed in Euclidean spacetime too while it has caused mass of an off-diagonal gluon on 4-sphere to be position dependent. The effective action in the confined phase on 4-sphere and that in the 4-dim Euclidean space are found to be identical in a profound outcome.

The in-medium partial decay widths of charmonium states to $D\bar D$ are calculated within a light quark--antiquark pair creation model, namely the $^3P_0$ model, using the in--medium masses of the charmonia as well as $D$ and $\bar D$ mesons in the magnetized nuclear matter obtained within a chiral effective model. The presence of a magnetic field leads to Landau quantization of the energy levels of the proton in the nuclear medium. The effects of magnetic field and isospin asymmetry on the charmonium decay widths to $D\bar D$ are found to be quite prominent. The effects of the anomalous magnetic moments have also been taken into consideration for obtaining the in-medium masses of these heavy flavour mesons, used to calculate the partial decay widths of the charmonium states. The medium modifications of the charmonium decay widths can have observable consequences on the production of the charmed mesons in high energy asymmetric heavy ion collision experiments.

By considering natural hermiticity property of the ghost fields we cast this model as non-Hermtian but symmetric under combined Parity (P) and Time reversal (T) transformations. We explicitly study the PT phase transition in this model. This is very first such study in the non-Hermitian gauge theory. The ghost fields condensate as a direct consequence of spontaneous breaking of PT symmetry. This leads to realize the transition from deconfined phase to confined phase as a PT phase transition in this system. The hidden C- symmetry in this system is identified as inner automorphism in this theory. Explicit representation is constructed for the C-symmetry.

Recently a new type of quadratic gauge was introduced in QCD in which the degrees of freedom are suggestive of a phase of abelian dominance. In its simplest form it is also free of Gribov ambiguity. However this gauge is not suitable for usual perturbation theory. The finite field dependent BRST (FFBRST) transformation is a method established to interrelate generating functionals for different effective versions of gauge fixed field theories. In this paper we propose a FFBRST transformation suitable for transforming the theory in the new quadratic gauge into the standard Lorenz gauge Faddeev-Popov version of the effective lagrangian. The task is made interesting by the fact the BRST invariance obeyed by the two effective lagrangians are not the same, however suitable extension of the previous procedures accomplishes the required result. We are thus able to identify a field redefinition to go from a non-perturbative phase of QCD to perturbative QCD.

The Gribov ambiguity exists in various gauges except algebraic gauges. However, algebraic gauges are not Lorentz invariant, which is their fundamental flaw. In addition, they are not generally compatible with the boundary conditions on the gauge fields, which are needed to compactify the space i.e., the ambiguity continues to exist on a compact manifold. Here we discuss a quadratic gauge fixing, which is Lorentz invariant. We consider an example of a spherically symmetric gauge field configuration in which we prove that this Lorentz invariant gauge removes the ambiguity on a compact manifold $\mathbb{S}^3$, when a proper boundary condition on the gauge configuration is taken into account. Thus, providing one example where the ambiguity is absent on a compact manifold in the algebraic gauge. We also show that the \tmem{BRST} invariance is preserved in this gauge.
