One way to define the Matching Cut problem is: Given a graph $G$, is there an edge-cut $M$ of $G$ such that $M$ is an independent set in the line graph of $G$? We propose the more general Conflict-Free Cut problem: Together with the graph $G$, we are given a so-called conflict graph $\hat{G}$ on the edges of $G$, and we ask for an edge-cutset $M$ of $G$ that is independent in $\hat{G}$. Since conflict-free settings are popular generalizations of classical optimization problems and Conflict-Free Cut was not considered in the literature so far, we start the study of the problem. We show that the problem is $\textsf{NP}$-complete even when the maximum degree of $G$ is 5 and $\hat{G}$ is 1-regular. The same reduction implies an exponential lower bound on the solvability based on the Exponential Time Hypothesis. We also give parameterized complexity results: We show that the problem is fixed-parameter tractable with the vertex cover number of $G$ as a parameter, and we show $\textsf{W[1]}$-hardness even when $G$ has a feedback vertex set of size one, and the clique cover number of $\hat{G}$ is the parameter. Since the clique cover number of $\hat{G}$ is an upper bound on the independence number of $\hat{G}$ and thus the solution size, this implies $\textsf{W[1]}$-hardness when parameterized by the cut size. We list polynomial-time solvable cases and interesting open problems. At last, we draw a connection to a symmetric variant of SAT.

The Independent Cutset problem asks whether there is a set of vertices in a given graph that is both independent and a cutset. Such a problem is $\textsf{NP}$-complete even when the input graph is planar and has maximum degree five. In this paper, we first present a $\mathcal{O}^*(1.4423^{n})$-time algorithm for the problem. We also show how to compute a minimum independent cutset (if any) in the same running time. Since the property of having an independent cutset is MSO$_1$-expressible, our main results are concerned with structural parameterizations for the problem considering parameters that are not bounded by a function of the clique-width of the input. We present $\textsf{FPT}$-time algorithms for the problem considering the following parameters: the dual of the maximum degree, the dual of the solution size, the size of a dominating set (where a dominating set is given as an additional input), the size of an odd cycle transversal, the distance to chordal graphs, and the distance to $P_5$-free graphs. We close by introducing the notion of $α$-domination, which allows us to identify more fixed-parameter tractable and polynomial-time solvable cases.

Traditional revenue management relies on long and stable historical data and predictable demand patterns. However, meeting those requirements is not always possible. Many industries face demand volatility on an ongoing basis, an example would be air cargo which has much shorter booking horizon with highly variable batch arrivals. Even for passenger airlines where revenue management (RM) is well-established, reacting to external shocks is a well-known challenge that requires user monitoring and manual intervention. Moreover, traditional RM comes with strict data requirements including historical bookings and pricing even in the absence of any bookings, spanning multiple years. For companies that have not established a practice in RM, that type of extensive data is usually not available. We present a data-driven approach to RM which eliminates the need for demand forecasting and optimization techniques. We develop a methodology to generate bid prices using historical booking data only. Our approach is an ex-post greedy heuristic to estimate proxies for marginal opportunity costs as a function of remaining capacity and time-to-departure solely based on historical booking data. We utilize a neural network algorithm to project bid price estimations into the future. We conduct an extensive simulation study where we measure performance of our methodology compared to that of an optimally generated bid price using dynamic programming (DP). We also extend our simulations to measure performance of both data-driven and DP generated bid prices under the presence of demand misspecification. Our results show that our data-driven methodology stays near a theoretical optimum (<1% revenue gap) for a wide-range of settings, whereas DP deviates more significantly from the optimal as the magnitude of misspecification is increased. This highlights the robustness of our data-driven approach.

In this work, we propose the Dynamic Longest Common Subsequences algorithm for fast and cost-efficient comparison of two routes for their compatibility, dynamically only incorporating parts of the routes which are suited for a shared trip. Based on this, one can also estimate, how many autonomous vehicles might be necessary to fulfill the local mobility demands. This can help providers to estimate the necessary fleet sizes, policymakers to better understand mobility patterns and cities to scale necessary infrastructure.

We consider the problem of dynamic pricing of a product in the presence of feature-dependent price sensitivity. Develo** practical algorithms that can estimate price elasticities robustly, especially when information about no purchases (losses) is not available, to drive such automated pricing systems is a challenge faced by many industries. Based on the Poisson semi-parametric approach, we construct a flexible yet interpretable demand model where the price related part is parametric while the remaining (nuisance) part of the model is non-parametric and can be modeled via sophisticated machine learning (ML) techniques. The estimation of price-sensitivity parameters of this model via direct one-stage regression techniques may lead to biased estimates due to regularization. To address this concern, we propose a two-stage estimation methodology which makes the estimation of the price-sensitivity parameters robust to biases in the estimators of the nuisance parameters of the model. In the first-stage we construct estimators of observed purchases and prices given the feature vector using sophisticated ML estimators such as deep neural networks. Utilizing the estimators from the first-stage, in the second-stage we leverage a Bayesian dynamic generalized linear model to estimate the price-sensitivity parameters. We test the performance of the proposed estimation schemes on simulated and real sales transaction data from the Airline industry. Our numerical studies demonstrate that our proposed two-stage approach reduces the estimation error in price-sensitivity parameters from 25\% to 4\% in realistic simulation settings. The two-stage estimation techniques proposed in this work allows practitioners to leverage modern ML techniques to robustly estimate price-sensitivities while still maintaining interpretability and allowing ease of validation of its various constituent parts.

We show that these graphs can indeed be recognized efficiently. More generally, we show that recognizing graphs $G$ with $α(G)\geq a(G)-\ell$ is fixed parameter tractable using $\ell$ as parameter.

In the foreseeable future, autonomous vehicles will require human assistance in situations they can not resolve on their own. In such scenarios, remote assistance from a human can provide the required input for the vehicle to continue its operation. Typical sensors used in autonomous vehicles include camera and lidar sensors. Due to the massive volume of sensor data that must be sent in real-time, highly efficient data compression is elementary to prevent an overload of network infrastructure. Sensor data compression using deep generative neural networks has been shown to outperform traditional compression approaches for both image and lidar data, regarding compression rate as well as reconstruction quality. However, there is a lack of research about the performance of generative-neural-network-based compression algorithms for remote assistance. In order to gain insights into the feasibility of deep generative models for usage in remote assistance, we evaluate state-of-the-art algorithms regarding their applicability and identify potential weaknesses. Further, we implement an online pipeline for processing sensor data and demonstrate its performance for remote assistance using the CARLA simulator.

Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) is a powerful non-invasive tool which is widely used in clinical routine. Mostly, apparent diffusion coefficient maps are acquired, which cannot be directly related to cellular structure.
More recently it was shown that DWI is able to reconstruct pore shapes using a specialized magnetic field gradient scheme so that cell size distributions may be obtained. So far, artificial systems have been used for experimental demonstration without extraporal signal components and relatively low gradient amplitudes.
Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of diffusion pore imaging in the presence of extraporal fluids and to develop correction methods for effects arising from extraporal signal contributions. Monte Carlo simulations and validation experiments on a 14.1 T spectrometer with a dedicated diffusion probe head were performed.
Both by using a filter gradient approach suppressing extraporal signal components as well as using postprocessing methods relying on the Gaussian phase approximation, it was possible to reconstruct pore space functions in the presence of extraporal fluids with little to no deviations from the expectations. These results may be a significant step towards application of diffusion pore imaging to biological samples. While still ultra-high gradients are required, this problem may be mitigated by recent developments in the field of local gradient coils for human applications.

When applying outlier detection in settings where data is sensitive, mechanisms which guarantee the privacy of the underlying data are needed. The $k$-nearest neighbors ($k$-NN) algorithm is a simple and one of the most effective methods for outlier detection. So far, there have been no attempts made to develop a differentially private ($ε$-DP) approach for $k$-NN based outlier detection. Existing approaches often relax the notion of $ε$-DP and employ other methods than $k$-NN. We propose a method for $k$-NN based outlier detection by separating the procedure into a fitting step on reference inlier data and then apply the outlier classifier to new data. We achieve $ε$-DP for both the fitting algorithm and the outlier classifier with respect to the reference data by partitioning the dataset into a uniform grid, which yields low global sensitivity. Our approach yields nearly optimal performance on real-world data with varying dimensions when compared to the non-private versions of $k$-NN.

Mining health data can lead to faster medical decisions, improvement in the quality of treatment, disease prevention, reduced cost, and it drives innovative solutions within the healthcare sector. However, health data is highly sensitive and subject to regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which aims to ensure patient's privacy. Anonymization or removal of patient identifiable information, though the most conventional way, is the first important step to adhere to the regulations and incorporate privacy concerns. In this paper, we review the existing anonymization techniques and their applicability to various types (relational and graph-based) of health data. Besides, we provide an overview of possible attacks on anonymized data. We illustrate via a reconstruction attack that anonymization though necessary, is not sufficient to address patient privacy and discuss methods for protecting against such attacks. Finally, we discuss tools that can be used to achieve anonymization.

In the Standard Model (SM) charmless hadronic decays $B_s^0 \rightarrow η^\prime η$ proceed via tree-level $b\to u$ and penguin $b\to s$ transitions. Penguin transitions are sensitive to Beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) physics scenarios and could affect the branching fractions and {\it CP} asymmetries in such decays. Once branching fractions for two-body decays $B_s \to ηη, ηη^{\prime}, η^{\prime}η^{\prime} $ are measured, and the theoretical uncertainties are reduced, it would be possible to extract {\it CP} violating parameters from the data using the formalism based on SU(3)/U(3) symmetry. To achieve this goal, at least four of these six branching fractions need to be measured. Only the branching fraction for $B_s^0 \to η^{\prime}η^{\prime}$ has been measured so far.

The enhancement of charged-particle pairs with large pseudorapidity difference and small azimuthal angle difference, often referred to as the ``ridge signal'', is a phenomenon widely observed in high multiplicity proton-proton, proton-ion and deutron-ion collisions, which is not yet fully understood. In heavy-ion collisions, the hydrodynamic expansion of the Quark-Gluon Plasma is one of the possible explanations of the origin of the ridge signal. Measurements in the $e^+e^-$ collision system, without the complexities introduced by hadron structure in the initial state, can serve as a complementary probe to examine the formation of a ridge signal. The first measurement of two-particle angular correlation functions in high multiplicity $e^+e^-$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=10.52$ GeV is reported. The hadronic $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected by the Belle detector at KEKB are used in this study. Two-particle angular correlation functions are measured over the full azimuth and large pseudorapidity intervals which are defined by either the electron beam axis or the event thrust as a function of charged particle multiplicity. The measurement in the event thrust analysis, with mostly outgoing quark pairs determining the reference axis, is sensitive to the region of additional soft gluon emissions. No significant ridge signal is observed with either coordinates analyses. Near side jet correlations appear to be absent in the thrust axis analysis. The measurements are compared to predictions from various event generators and expected to provide new constraints to the phenomenological models in the low energy regime.

The absorptionsare positive near the boundary and zero far from the boundary so are always x-dependent. At the flat parts of the boundary of the rectangle, the natural absorbing boundary conditions are imposed. The difficulty addressed is the analysis of the resulting variable coeffi-cient problem on the rectanglar solid with its edges and corners. TheLaplace transform is analysed. It turns on the analysis of a boundaryvalue problem formally obtained by complex stretching. Existence isproved by deriving a boundary value problems for a complex stretchedHelmholtz equation on smoothed domains. This is the first stabilityproof with x-dependent absorptions on a bounded domain whoseboundary is not smooth.

Emergency department (ED) care for frail elderly patients is associated with an increased use of resources due to their complex medical needs and frequently difficult psycho-social situation. To better target their needs with specially trained staff, it is vital to determine the times during which these particular patients present to the ED. Recent research was inconclusive regarding this question and the applied methods were limited to coarse time windows. Moreover, there is little research on time variation of frail ED patients' case complexity. This study examines differences in arrival rates for frail vs. non-frail patients in detail and compares case complexity in frail patients within vs. outside of regular GP working hours. Arrival times and case variables (admission rate, ED length of stay [LOS], triage level and comorbidities) were extracted from the EHR of an ED in an urban German teaching hospital. We employed Poisson time series regression to determine patterns in hourly arrival rates over the week. Frail elderly patients presented more likely to the ED during already high frequented hours, especially at midday and in the afternoon. Case complexity for frail patients was significantly higher compared to non-frail patients, but varied marginally in time only with respect to triage level and ED LOS. The results suggest that frailty-attuned emergency care should be available in EDs during the busiest hours. Based on EHR data, hospitals thus can tailor their staff needs.

The results are based on a data sample containing $772\times10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ events recorded at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. The analysis utilizes a method where the tag-side $B$ meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode, and the signal-side $τ$ is reconstructed in a purely leptonic decay. The measured values are $\mathcal{R}(D)= 0.307 \pm 0.037 \pm 0.016$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^{\ast})= 0.283 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.014$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions within $0.2$ and $1.1$ standard deviations, respectively, while their combination agrees with the Standard Model predictions within $1.2$ standard deviations.

The GENFIT toolkit, initially developed at the Technische Universitaet Muenchen, has been extended and modified to be more general and user-friendly. The new GENFIT, called GENFIT2, provides track representation, track-fitting algorithms and graphic visualization of tracks and detectors, and it can be used for any experiment that determines parameters of charged particle trajectories from spacial coordinate measurements. Based on general Kalman filter routines, it can perform extrapolations of track parameters and covariance matrices. It also provides interfaces to Millepede II for alignment purposes, and RAVE for the vertex finder. Results of an implementation of GENFIT2 in basf2 and PandaRoot software frameworks are presented here.

Frequent users of emergency departments (ED) pose a significant challenge to hospital emergency services. Despite a wealth of studies in this field, it is hardly understood, what medical conditions lead to frequent attendance. We examine (1) what ambulatory care sensitive conditions (ACSC) are linked to frequent use, (2) how frequent users can be clustered into subgroups with respect to their diagnoses, acuity and admittance, and (3) whether frequent use is related to higher acuity or admission rate. We identified several ACSC that highly increase the risk for heavy ED use, extracted four major diagnose subgroups and found no significant effect neither for acuity nor admission rate. Our study indicates that especially patients in need of (nursing) care form subgroups of frequent users, which implies that quality of care services might be crucial for tackling frequent use. Hospitals are advised to regularly analyze their ED data in the EHR to better align resources.

This article examines the accuracy for large times of asymptotic expansions from periodic homogenization of wave equations. As usual, $ε$ denotes the small period of the coefficients in the wave equation. We first prove that the standard two scale asymptotic expansion provides an accurate approximation of the exact solution for times $t$ of order $ε^{-2+δ}$ for any $δ>0$. Second, for longer times, we show that a different algorithm, that is called criminal because it mixes different powers of $ε$, yields an approximation of the exact solution with error $O(ε^N)$ for times $ε^{-N}$ with $N$ as large as one likes. The criminal algorithm involves high order homogenized equations that, in the context of the wave equation, were first proposed by Santosa and Symes and analyzed by Lamacz. The high order homogenized equations yield dispersive corrections for moderate wave numbers. We give a systematic analysis for all time scales and all high order corrective terms.

This analysis is based on the data sample containing $772 \times 10^6 B\bar{B}$ pairs that was collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric $e^+ e^-$ collider. We find evidence for the isospin violation with a significance of 3.1$σ$, $Δ_{0+} = (+6.2 \pm 1.5 ({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.6 ({\rm syst.}) \pm 1.2 (f_{+-}/f_{00}))$\%, where the third uncertainty is due to the uncertainty on the fraction of $B^+B^-$ to $B^0\bar{B}^0$ production in $Υ(4S)$ decays. The measured value is consistent with predictions of the SM. The result for the difference of $CP$ asymmetries is $ΔA_{CP} = (+2.4 \pm 2.8({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.5({\rm syst.}))$\%, consistent with zero. The measured branching fractions and $CP$ asymmetries for charged and neutral $B$ meson decays are the most precise to date. We also calculate the ratio of branching fractions of $B^0 \to K^{*0} γ$ to $B_s^0 \to φγ$.

A Time Projection Chamber (TPC) is an ideal device for the detection of charged particle tracks in a large volume covering a solid angle of almost $4π$. The high density of hits on a given particle track facilitates the task of pattern recognition in a high-occupancy environment and in addition provides particle identification by measuring the specific energy loss for each track. For these reasons, TPCs with Multiwire Proportional Chamber (MWPC) amplification have been and are widely used in experiments recording heavy-ion collisions. A significant drawback, however, is the large dead time of the order of 1 ms per event generated by the use of a gating grid, which is mandatory to prevent ions created in the amplification region from drifting back into the drift volume, where they would severely distort the drift path of subsequent tracks. For experiments with higher event rates this concept of a conventional TPC operating with a triggered gating grid can therefore not be applied without a significant loss of data. A continuous readout of the signals is the more appropriate way of operation. This, however, constitutes a change of paradigm with considerable challenges to be met concerning the amplification region, the design and bandwidth of the readout electronics, and the data handling. A mandatory prerequisite for such an operation is a sufficiently good suppression of the ion backflow from the avalanche region, which otherwise limits the tracking and particle identification capabilities of such a detector. Gas Electron Multipliers (GEM) are a promising candidate to combine excellent spatial resolution with an intrinsic suppression of ions. In this paper we describe the design, construction and the commissioning of a large TPC with GEM amplification and without gating grid (GEM-TPC).

The precise determination of the CKM matrix element $\left| V_{cb}\right|$ is important for carrying out tests of the flavour sector of the Standard Model. In this article we present a preliminary analysis of the $\bar B^0 \to D^{*\,+} \, \ell^- \, \bar ν_\ell$ decay mode and its charge conjugate, selected in events that contain a fully reconstructed $B$-meson, using 772 million $e^+ \, e^- \to Υ(4S) \to B \bar B$ events recorded by the Belle detector at KEKB. Unfolded differential decay rates of four kinematic variables fully describing the $\bar B^0 \to D^{*\,+} \, \ell^- \, \bar ν_\ell$ decay in the $B$-meson rest frame are presented. We measure the total branching fraction $\mathcal{B}( \bar B^0 \to D^{*\,+} \, \ell^- \, \bar ν_\ell ) = \left(4.95 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.22 \right) \times 10^{-2}$, where the errors are statistical and systematic respectively. The value of $\left|V_{cb} \right|$ is determined to be $\left( 37.4 \pm 1.3 \right) \times 10^{-3}$. Both results are in good agreement with current world averages.

The absolute branching fraction is determined using an inclusive $D^0$ sample, obtained by fully reconstructing the rest of the particle system including the other charmed particle. No significant signal yield is observed and an upper limit of $9.4\times 10^{-5}$ is set on the branching fraction of $D^0$ to invisible final states at 90\% confidence level.

We report the first observation of the polarization of $Λ/\barΛ$ hyperons transverse to its production plane in $e^+e^-$ annihilation. We observe a significant polarization that rises with the fractional energy carried by the hyperon as well as its transverse momentum. To define the production plane, we use the direction of the hyperon momentum together with either the thrust axis in the event or the momentum vector of a hadron in the opposite hemisphere. Furthermore, we investigate the contributions to the hyperon polarization from the feed-down from $Σ^0/\barΣ^0$ and $Λ_c^{\pm}$ decays. This measurement uses a dataset of 800.4fb$^{-1}$ collected by the Belle experiment at or near a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV.

The result is consistent with Standard Model expectations and improves the uncertainty with respect to previous measurement of this quantity by more than a factor of three.

The large sample allows us to probe the total decay width of the χ_{b0}(1P). In the absence of a statistically significant result, a 90% confidence-level upper limit is set on the width at Γ_{total}< 2.4 MeV. We present a search for a non-Standard-Model invisible particle $X^0$ in the mass range $0.1\textrm{-}1.8 \,{\rm GeV}/{c^2}$ in $B^{+}\to e^{+} X^{0}$ and $B^{+}\to μ^{+} X^{0}$ decays. The results are obtained from a $711~{\rm fb}^{-1}$ data sample that corresponds to $772 \times 10^{6} B\bar{B}$ pairs, collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. One $B$ meson is fully reconstructed in a hadronic mode to determine the momentum of the lepton of the signal decay in the rest frame of the recoiling partner $B$ meson. We find no evidence of a signal and set upper limits on the order of $10^{-6}$.

Abstract:
We present a measurement of angular observables, $P_4'$, $P_5'$, $P_6'$, $P_8'$, in the decay $B^0 \to K^\ast(892)^0 \ell^+ \ell^-$, where $\ell^+\ell^-$ is either $e^+e^-$ or $μ^+μ^-$. The analysis is performed on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $711~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ containing $772\times 10^{6}$ $B\bar B$ pairs, collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detect…

Four angular observables, $P_{4,5,6,8}'$ are extracted in five bins of the invariant mass squared of the lepton system, $q^2$. We compare our results for $P_{4,5,6,8}'$ with Standard Model predictions including the $q^2$ region in which the LHCb collaboration reported the so-called $P_5'$ anomaly.

Abstract:
The process $γγ\to p \bar{p} K^+ K^-$ and its intermediate processes are measured for the first time using a 980~fb$^{-1}$ data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. The production of $p \bar{p} K^+ K^-$ and a $Λ(1520)^0~(\barΛ(1520)^0)$ signal in the $pK^-$~($\bar{p} K^+$) invariant mass spectrum are clearly observed. However, no evidence for an…

The production of $p \bar{p} K^+ K^-$ and a $Λ(1520)^0~(\barΛ(1520)^0)$ signal in the $pK^-$~($\bar{p} K^+$) invariant mass spectrum are clearly observed. However, no evidence for an exotic baryon near 1540~MeV/$c^2$, denoted as $Θ(1540)^0$~($\barΘ~(1540)^0$) or $Θ(1540)^{++}$~($Θ(1540)^{--}$), is seen in the $p K^-$~($\bar{p}K^+$) or $pK^+$~($\bar{p} K^-$) invariant mass spectra. Cross sections for $γγ\to p \bar{p} K^+ K^-$, $Λ(1520)^0 \bar{p} K^+ +c.c.$ and the products $σ(γγ\to Θ(1540)^0 \bar{p} K^+ +c.c.)\BR(Θ(1540)^0 \to p K^{-})$ and $σ(γγ\to Θ(1540)^{++} \bar{p} K^- +c.c.)\BR(Θ(1540)^{++}\to p K^{+})$ are measured. We also determine upper limits on the products of the $χ_{c0}$ and $χ_{c2}$ two-photon decay widths and their branching fractions to $p \bar{p} K^+ K^-$ at the 90\% credibility level.

We select a sample of $B^0 \bar{B}^0$ pairs by reconstructing both $B$ mesons in semileptonic decays to $D^{*\mp} \ell^{\pm}$. We measure ${\cal R}(D^*)= 0.302 \pm 0.030({\rm stat)} \pm 0.011({\rm syst)}$, which is within $1.6 σ$ of the Standard Model theoretical expectation, where $σ$ is the standard deviation including systematic uncertainties.

Abstract:
We have searched for the decay B0 -> phi gamma using the full Belle data set of 772 x 10^6 BBbar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. No signal is observed, and we set an upper limit on the branching fraction of B(B0 -> phi gamma) < 1.0 x 10^{-7} at 90% confidence level. This is the most stringent limit on this decay mode to date.
