Acoustic data serves as a fundamental cornerstone in advancing scientific and engineering understanding across diverse disciplines, spanning biology, communications, and ocean and Earth science. This inquiry meticulously explores recent advancements and transformative potential within the domain of acoustics, specifically focusing on machine learning (ML) and deep learning. ML, comprising an extensive array of statistical techniques, proves indispensable for autonomously discerning and leveraging patterns within data. In contrast to traditional acoustics and signal processing, ML adopts a data-driven approach, unveiling intricate relationships between features and desired labels or actions, as well as among features themselves, given ample training data. The application of ML to expansive sets of training data facilitates the discovery of models elucidating complex acoustic phenomena such as human speech and reverberation. The dynamic evolution of ML in acoustics yields compelling results and holds substantial promise for the future. The advent of electronic stethoscopes and analogous recording and data logging devices has expanded the application of acoustic signal processing concepts to the analysis of bowel sounds. This paper critically reviews existing literature on acoustic signal processing for bowel sound analysis, outlining fundamental approaches and applicable machine learning principles. It chronicles historical progress in signal processing techniques that have facilitated the extraction of valuable information from bowel sounds, emphasizing advancements in noise reduction, segmentation, signal enhancement, feature extraction, sound localization, and machine learning techniques...

In recent years, the investigation of novel materials for various technological applications has gained much importance in materials science research. Tri-molybdenum phosphide (Mo3P), a promising transition metal phosphide (TMP), has gathered significant attention due to its unique structural and electronic properties, which already make it potentially valuable system for catalytic and electronic device applications. Through an in-depth study using the density functional theory (DFT) calculations, this work aims to clarify the basic properties of the Mo3P compound at different pressures. In this work, we have studied the structural, elastic, optoelectronic and thermophysical properties of binary Mo3P compound. In this investigation, we varied uniform hydrostatic pressure from 0 GPa to 30 GPa. A complete geometrical optimization for structural parameters is performed and the obtained values are in good accord with the experimental values where available. It is also found that Mo3P possesses very low level of elastic anisotropy, reasonably good machinability, ductile nature, relatively high Vickers hardness, high Debye temperature and high melting temperature. Thermomechanical properties indicate that the compound has potential to be used as a thermal barrier coating material. The bonding nature in Mo3P has been explored. The electronic band structure shows that Mo3P has no band gap and exhibits conventional metallic behavior. All of the energy dependent optical characteristics demonstrate apparent metallic behavior and agree exactly with the electronic density of states calculations. The compound has excellent reflective and absorptive properties suitable for optical applications. Pressure dependent variations of the physical properties are explored and their possible link with superconductivity has been discussed.

Monolayer transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) semiconductors such as MoSe$_2$ host strongly bound excitons which are known to exhibit a strong resonant third-order nonlinear response. Although there have been numerous studies of the ultrafast nonlinear response of monolayer TMDs, a study of the steady-state nonlinear response is lacking. We report a comprehensive study of the steady-state two-color nonlinear response of excitons in hBN-encapsulated monolayer MoSe$_2$ at 7 K. We observe differential transmission (DT) signals associated with the neutral and charged exciton species, which is strongly dependent on the polarization of the pump and probe. Our results are compared to a theoretical model based on a T-matrix formulation for exciton-exciton, exciton-trion, and trion-trion correlations. The parameters are chosen such that the theory accurately reproduces the experimental DT spectrum, which is found to be dominated by two-exciton correlations without strong biexciton binding, exciton-trion attractive interactions, and strong spin mixing through incoherent relaxation.

Phase transitions in metal halide perovskites triggered by external provocations produce significantly different material properties, providing a prodigious opportunity for a comprehensive applications. In the present study, the first principles calculation has been performed with the help of density functional theory (DFT) using CASTEP code to investigate the physical properties of lead-free CsSnBr3 metal halide under various hydrostatic pressures. The pressure effect is determined in the range of 0-16 GPa. Subsequently, a significant change is observed in lattice constant and volume with increasing pressure. The electronic band structure show semiconductor to metal phase transition under elevated pressure. The investigation of optical functions displays that the absorption edge of CsSnBr3 perovskite is shifted remarkably toward the low energy region (red shift) with improved pressure up to 16 GPa. In addition, the absorptivity and dielectric constant also upsurges with the applied hydrostatic pressure. Finally, the mechanical properties reveal that CsSnBr3 perovskite is mechanically stable and highly ductile; the ductility is increased with raising pressure. This type of semiconductor to metal phase transition may inspire a wide range of potential applications.

We study the performance of SUPCODE---a family of dynamically correcting pulses designed to cancel simultaneously both Overhauser and charge noise for singlet-triplet spin qubits---adapted to silicon devices with electrostatic control. We consider both natural Si and isotope-enriched Si systems, and in each case we investigate the behavior of individual gates under static noise and perform randomized benchmarking to obtain the average gate error under realistic 1/f noise. We find that in most cases SUPCODE pulses offer roughly an order of magnitude reduction in gate error, and especially in the case of isotope-enriched Si, SUPCODE yields gate operations of very high fidelity. We also develop a version of SUPCODE that cancels the charge noise only, "$δJ$-SUPCODE", which is particularly beneficial for isotope-enriched Si devices where charge noise dominates Overhauser noise, offering a level of error reduction comparable to the original SUPCODE while yielding gate times that are 30% to 50% shorter. Our results show that the SUPCODE noise-compensating pulses provide a fast, simple, and effective approach to error suppression, bringing gate errors well below the quantum error correction threshold in principle.

Using the latest data pertaining to \bar u-\bar d asymmetry and the spin polarization functions, detailed implications of the possible values of the coupling strength of the singlet Goldstone boson η' have been investigated in the \chiCQM with configuration mixing. Using Δu, Δ_3, \bar u-\bar d and \bar u/\bar d, the possible ranges of the coupling parameters a, α^2 a, β^2 a and ζ^2 a, representing respectively the probabilities of fluctuations to pions, K, ηand η^{'}, are found. To further constrain the coupling strength of η', detailed fits have been obtained for spin polarization functions, quark distribution functions and baryon octet magnetic moments. The fits clearly establish that a small non-zero value of the coupling of η' is preferred over the higher values of $η'$ as well as when ζ=0, the latter implying the absence of η' from the dynamics of \chiCQM. Our best fit achieves an overall excellent fit to the data, in particular for Δu, Δd, Δ_8 as well as the magnetic moments μ_{n}, μ_{Σ^-}, μ_{Σ^+} and μ_{Ξ^-}. The implications of η' on the gluon polarization have also been investigated.

Using Δu, Δ_3, \bar u-\bar d and \bar u/\bar d, the possible ranges of the coupling parameters a, α^ 2, β^ 2 and ζ^ 2, representing respectively the probabilities of fluctuations to pions, K, ηand η^{'}, are shown to be 0.10 \lesssim a \lesssim 0.14, 0.2\lesssim α\lesssim 0.5, 0.2\lesssim β\lesssim 0.7 and 0.10 lesssim |ζ| \lesssim 0.70. To constrain the coupling strength of η', detailed fits have been obtained for spin polarization functions, quark distribution functions and baryon octet magnetic moments corresponding to the following sets of parameters: a=0.1, α=0.4, β=0.7, |ζ|=0.65 (Case I); a=0.1, α=0.4, β=0.6, |ζ|=0.70 (Case II); a=0.14, α=0.4, β=0.2, ζ=0 (Case III) and a=0.13, α=β=0.45, |ζ|=0.10 (Case IV). Case I represents the calculations where a is fixed to be 0.1, in accordance with earlier calculations, whereas other parameters are treated free and the Case IV represents our best fit. The fits clearly establish that a small non-zero value of the coupling of η' is preferred over the higher values of η' as well as when ζ=0, the latter implying the absence of η' from the dynamics of \chiCQM. Our best fit achieves an overall excellent fit to the data, in particular the fit for Δu, Δd, Δ_8 as well as the magnetic moments μ_{n}, μ_{Σ^-}, μ_{Σ^+} and μ_{Ξ^-} is almost perfect, the μ_{Ξ^-} being a difficult case for most of the similar calculations.

The implications of the latest data pertaining to \bar u-\bar d asymmetry and the spin polarization functions on the contributions of singlet Goldstone boson η' within \chiCQM with configuration mixing for explaining the ``proton spin problem'' have been investigated. It is found that the present data favors smaller values of the coupling of singlet Goldstone Boson η' as compared to the corresponding contributions from π, K and ηGoldstone bosons. It seems that a small non-zero value of the coupling of η' (ζ\neq 0) is preferred over ζ=0 phenomenologically.

Abstract:
A criterion is derived for the determination of parameter domains of first order phase transitions in quantum mechanical tunneling models. The criterion is tested by application to various models, in particular to some which have been used recently to explore spin tunneling in macroscopic particles.
