New results are reported from a measurement of $π^0$ electroproduction near threshold using the $p(e,e^{\prime} p)π^0$ reaction. The experiment was designed to determine precisely the energy dependence of $s-$ and $p-$wave electromagnetic multipoles as a stringent test of the predictions of Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT). The data were taken with an electron beam energy of 1192 MeV using a two-spectrometer setup in Hall A at Jefferson Lab. For the first time, complete coverage of the $φ^*_π$ and $θ^*_π$ angles in the $p π^0$ center-of-mass was obtained for invariant energies above threshold from 0.5 MeV up to 15 MeV. The 4-momentum transfer $Q^2$ coverage ranges from 0.05 to 0.155 (GeV/c)$^2$ in fine steps. A simple phenomenological analysis of our data shows strong disagreement with $p-$wave predictions from ChPT for $Q^2>0.07$ (GeV/c)$^2$, while the $s-$wave predictions are in reasonable agreement.

The ratio of the elastic $e^+ p$ to $e^- p$ scattering cross sections has been measured precisely, allowing the determination of the two-photon exchange contribution to these processes. This neglected contribution is believed to be the cause of the discrepancy between the Rosenbluth and polarization transfer methods of measuring the proton electromagnetic form factors. The experiment was performed at the VEPP-3 storage ring at beam energies of 1.6 and 1.0 GeV and at lepton scattering angles between $15^\circ$ and $105^\circ$. The data obtained show evidence of a significant two-photon exchange effect. The results are compared with several theoretical predictions.

A precise comparison of the cross sections for the elastic scattering of electrons and positrons on protons was performed recently at the VEPP-3 storage ring in Novosibirsk, Russia. To provide the proposed accuracy, the energies of the electron and positron beams used during the experiment needed to be carefully maintained. This paper describes a special beam energy measurement system used in this experiment. This system is based on measuring the maximum energy of laser photons backscattered from electron and positron beams. It provides continuous beam energy measurements with a total relative uncertainty of less than $4.4 \cdot 10^{-5}$.

Such measurements determine the two-photon exchange effect in elastic electron-proton scattering. The experiment is conducted at the VEPP-3 storage ring using a hydrogen internal gas target. The ratio $R$ is measured with a beam energy of 1.6 GeV (electron/positron scattering angles are $θ= 55 ÷75^{\circ}$ and $θ= 15 ÷25^{\circ}$) and 1 GeV ($θ= 65 ÷105^{\circ}$). The scattered electrons were detected in a magnetic spectrometer in coincidence with neutrons that were registered in a large-solid-angle detector. It has been suggested that two-photon exchange corrections could explain the discrepancy between Rosenbluth extractions of the proton form factors and recent polarization transfer measurements. We propose a precise comparison of electron-proton and positron-proton scattering at Q^2=1.6 GeV^2 to determine if two-photon exchange at moderate Q^2 values is in fact able to explain the discrepancy.

The data give detailed information about the spin structure of the deuteron, and are in good agreement with the predictions of microscopic calculations based on realistic nucleon-nucleon potentials and including various spin-dependent reaction mechanism effects. The experiment demonstrates in a most direct manner the effects of the D-state in the deuteron ground-state wave function and shows the importance of isobar configurations for this reaction.

Recently, we have performed the experiment on studying the pion electroproduction at photon point on the internal polarized deuterium target at the VEPP-3 storage ring. For the more complete treatment of the reaction d(e,pp)X we investigate the reaction channel with an additional neutral pion production as background to the leading reaction of the single negative pion production. To study this background process we considered the nucleon pole mechanism and the two-body mechanism. In the latter mechanism a Delta(1232) and the pion are produced in one nucleon then the pion is absorbed by other nucleon producing just one more Delta (1232). The final proton-pion systems come from the decay of the both Deltas. In this work we have estimated the contribution of the reaction with additional neutral pion production into the whole yield for the different polarization states of the deuteron in the kinematic conditions of the VEPP-3 d(e,pp)X - experiment.

Polarized electrons were injected into an electron storage ring at a beam energy of 720 MeV. A Siberian snake was employed to preserve longitudinal polarization at the interaction point. Vector-polarized deuterium was produced by an atomic beam source and injected into an open-ended cylindrical cell, internal to the electron storage ring. We report on the first measurement of spin-correlation parameters in quasifree electron scattering from vector-polarized deuterium. Polarized electrons were injected into an electron storage ring at a beam energy of 720~MeV. A Siberian snake was employed to preserve longitudinal polarization at the interaction point. Vector-polarized deuterium was produced by an atomic beam source and injected into an open-ended cylindrical cell, internal to the electron storage ring. The spin correlation parameter A^V_{ed} was measured for the reaction \pol{2H}(\pol{e},e'n)p at a four-momentum transfer squared of 0.21 (GeV/c)^2 from which a value for the charge form factor of the neutron was extracted.

We report on a first measurement of tensor analyzing powers in quasi-elastic electron-deuteron scattering at an average three-momentum transfer of 1.7 fm$^{-1}$. Data sensitive to the spin-dependent nucleon density in the deuteron were obtained for missing momenta up to 150 MeV/$c$ with a tensor polarized $^2$H target internal to an electron storage ring. The data are well described by a calculation that includes the effects of final-state interaction, meson-exchange and isobar currents, and leading-order relativistic contributions.
