We determine the axial, scalar and tensor isovector charges of the nucleon, sigma and cascade baryons as well as the difference between the up and down quark masses, $m_u-m_d$. We employ gauge ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ non-perturbatively improved Wilson fermions at six values of the lattice spacing in the range $a\approx (0.039 - 0.098) \,$fm, generated by the Coordinated Lattice Simulations (CLS) effort. The pion mass $M_π$ ranges from around $430 \, $MeV down to a near physical value of $130 \, $MeV and the linear spatial lattice extent $L$ varies from $6.5\,M_π^{-1}$ to $3.0\,M_π^{-1}$, where $L M_π\geq 4$ for the majority of the ensembles. This allows us to perform a controlled interpolation/extrapolation of the charges to the physical mass point in the infinite volume and continuum limit. Investigating SU(3) flavour symmetry, we find moderate symmetry breaking effects for the axial charges at the physical quark mass point, while no significant effects are found for the other charges within current uncertainties.

We determine both singlet and non-singlet flavor combinations and, for the first time, take disconnected contributions fully into account. In the case of the rho, we also calculate the additional contribution arising from the $b_1$ structure function. The numerical analysis includes 26 ensembles, mainly generated by the CLS effort, with pion masses ranging from 420MeV down to 214MeV and with 5 different lattice spacings in the range of 0.1fm to 0.05fm. This enables us to take the continuum limit, as well as to resolve the quark mass dependencies reliably. Additionally we discuss the contaminations of rho correlation functions by two-pion states.

First results on the breaking of flavour symmetry and the low energy constants $F$ and $D$ are presented. While SU(3) flavour symmetry violations are found to be sizeable for $g_A=\langle 1\rangle_{Δu^+-Δd^+}$, these are quite small for $g_T=\langle 1\rangle_{δu^--δd^-}$ and $\langle x\rangle_{u^+-d^+}$.

The results are obtained using lattice QCD with $N_f=2$ nonperturbatively improved Wilson fermions, employing a range of quark masses down to an almost physical value with a pion mass of about 150 MeV. We also present results for the isovector quark angular momentum and for the first $x$-moment of the transverse quark spin density. We compare two different fit strategies and find that directly fitting the ground state matrix elements to the functional form expected from Lorentz invariance and parametrized in terms of form factors yields comparable, and usually more stable results than the traditional approach where the form factors are determined from an overdetermined linear system based on the fitted matrix elements.

We have implemented a new way of computing three-point correlation functions. It is based on a factorization of the entire correlation function into two parts which are evaluated with open spin- (and to some extent flavor-) indices. This allows us to estimate the two contributions simultaneously for many different initial and final states and momenta, with little computational overhead. We explain this factorization as well as its efficient implementation in a new library which has been written to provide the necessary functionality on modern parallel architectures and on CPUs, including Intel's Xeon Phi series.

We compute the axial, scalar, tensor and pseudoscalar isovector couplings of the nucleon as well as the induced tensor and pseudoscalar charges in lattice simulations with $N_f=2$ mass-degenerate non-perturbatively improved Wilson-Sheikholeslami-Wohlert fermions. The simulations are carried out down to a pion mass of 150 MeV and linear spatial lattice extents of up to 4.6 fm at three different lattice spacings ranging from approximately 0.08 fm to 0.06 fm. Possible excited state contamination is carefully investigated and finite volume effects are studied. The couplings, determined at these lattice spacings, are extrapolated to the physical pion mass. In this limit we find agreement with experimental results, where these exist, with the exception of the magnetic moment. A proper continuum limit could not be performed, due to our limited range of lattice constants, but no significant lattice spacing dependence is detected. Upper limits on discretization effects are estimated and these dominate the error budget.

We present an update of our analysis [1] which includes additional ensembles at different quark masses, lattice spacings and volumes, all with high statistics. We use $N_f=2$ mass-degenerate quark flavours, employing the non-perturbatively improved clover action. The lattice matrix elements are converted to the $\overline{\rm MS}$ scheme via renormalization factors determined non-perturbatively in the RI$^\prime$-MOM scheme. We have systematically investigated excited state contributions, in particular, at the smallest, near physical, pion mass. While our results~(with much increased precision) are consistent with Ref.~[1], comparing with previous determinations we find that excited state contributions can be significant if the quark smearing is not suitably optimized, in agreement with other recent studies. The difference with respect to the value for $\langle x\rangle_{u-d}$ extracted from experimental data is reduced but not resolved. Using lattice sizes in the range $L m_π\sim 3.4-6.7$, no significant finite volume effects were observed. Performing a controlled continuum limit that may remove the discrepancy will require simulations at lattice spacings $a< 0.06$ fm.

Using stochastic estimators for connected meson and baryon three-point functions has successfully been tried in the past years. Compared to the standard sequential source method we trade the freedom to compute the current-to-sink propagator independently of the hadron sink for additional stochastic noise in our observables. In the case of the nucleon we can use this freedom to compute many different sink-momentum/polarization combinations, which grants access to more virtualities. We will present preliminary results on the scalar, electro-magnetic and axial form factors of the nucleon in $N_f=2+1$ lattice QCD and contrast the performance of the stochastic method to the sequential source method. We find the stochastic method to be competitive in terms of errors at fixed cost.

We give analytical and numerical solutions for the zero modes of the Dirac operator in topological SU(2) gauge backgrounds at nonzero chemical potential. Continuation from imaginary to real chemical potential is used to systematically derive analytical zero modes for calorons at arbitrary holonomy and, in particular limits, for instantons and dyons (magnetic monopoles). For the latter a spherical ansatz is explored as well. All the zero mode exhibit stronger peaks at the core and negative regions in their densities. We discuss the structure of the corresponding overlap matrix elements. For discretized calorons on the lattice we consider the staggered operator and show that it does possess (quartet quasi-)zero modes, whose eigenmodes agree very well with the continuum profiles, also for nonzero chemical potential.
