Nickel/Bismuth (Ni/Bi) bilayers have recently attracted attention due to the occurrence of time-reversal symmetry breaking in the superconducting state. Here, we report on the structural, magnetic and electric characterization of thin film Ni/Bi bilayers with several Bi thicknesses. We observed the formation of a complex layered structure depending on the Bi thickness caused by the inter-diffusion of Bi and Ni which leads to the stabilization of NiBi$_{3}$ at the Bi/Ni interface. The superconducting transition temperature and the transition width are highly dependent on the Bi thickness and the layer structure. Magnetoelectric transport measurements in perpendicular and parallel magnetic fields were used to investigate the temperature-dependent upper critical field within the framework of the anisotropic Ginzburg-Landau theory and the Werthamer Helfand Hohenberg model. For thicker samples, we observed a conventional behavior, similar to that shown by NiBi$_{3}$ bulk samples, including a small Maki parameter ($α_{M}$ = 0), no spin-orbit scattering ($λ_{SO}$= 0) and nearly isotropic coherence length ($γ$ = $ξ_{\perp}$(0)/$ξ_{\parallel}$(0) $\approx$ 1). The values obtained for these properties are close to those characterizing NiBi$_{3}$ single crystals. On the other hand, in very thin samples the Maki parameter increases to about $α_{M}$ = 2.8. In addition, the coherence length becomes anisotropic ($γ$ = 0.32) and spin-orbit scattering ($λ_{SO}$= 1.2) must be taken into account. Our results unequivocally show that the properties characterizing the superconducting state in the Ni/Bi are strongly dependent on the sample thickness.

The Spin-Orbit Proximity Effect is the raise of Spin-Orbit Coupling at a layer near to the interface with a strong spin-orbit material. It has been seen in several system such as graphene and ferromagnetic layers. The control of the Spin-Orbit Coupling can be a pathway to discover novel and exotic phases in superconductor and semimetallic systems. Here, we study the magnetoelectrical transport, i.e., magnetoresistance and anomalous Hall effect, in Cobalt/Bismuth multilayers looking for traces of spin-orbit proximity effect and evaluate the origin of such effect. Our results point for an increase of Spontaneous Magnetic Anisotropy of Resistivity and Anomalous Hall Resistivity at very low thicknesses of Cobalt. The analysis of the Anomalous Hall Resisitivity indicate that the Bismuth layers change the scattering mechanism of Hall effect to the extrinsic skew-scattering type, indicating that the spin-orbit proximity effect could be related to the elastic scattering of cobalt free carriers by bismuth sites at the interface.

We report on magnetization experiments from which we obtain the field-induced kinetic energy density, $E_k$, in the superconducting phase of several Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ single crystal samples. The kinetic energy magnitude changes according to the characteristic reduction of the single-electron density of states produced by the pseudogap in the underdoped limit. Moreover, a remarkable peak of $E_k$ occurring at the specific holes density $p\sim0.18$ is related to a van Hove singularity due to the pseudogap closure. We also extracted the superfluid density, $ρ_s$. We conclude that $E_k$ and $ρ_s$ are related to the pseudogap energy scale. This result is understood as an evidence of the coexistence between superconductivity and the pseudogap phenomenon in the Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ cuprate compound.

Here, we report on the electrical resistivity, magnetoresistance, and Hall effect in two series of BaFe$_{2-x}$T$_x$As$_2$ (T = Co, Ni) crystals with different values of $x$. The T contents were chosen so that the majority of the investigated samples present an intermediate magnetically ordered state and a superconducting ground state. We interpret the obtained results in terms of scattering of charge carriers by magnetic excitations instead of describing them as resulting uniquely from effects related to multiple-band conduction. Our samples are single crystals from the structural point of view and their overall magnetotransport properties are dominated by a single magnetic state.

We report on electrical resistivity, magnetoresistance (MR) and Hall effect measurements in four non-superconducting BaFe$_{2-x}$TM$_x$As$_2$ (TM = Mn, Cu and Ni) single crystals with small values of the chemical substitution $x$. The spin density wave (SDW) ordering that occurs in these systems at temperatures $T\sim$ (120 - 140) K, in close vicinity to a tetragonal/orthorhombic transition, produces significant modifications in their magneto-transport properties. While in the magnetically ordered phase the MR is positive and its magnitude increases with decreasing temperatures, in the paramagnetic regime the MR becomes vanishingly small. Above the spin density wave transition temperature ($T_{\text{SDW}}$) the Hall coefficient $R_H$ is negative, small and weakly temperature dependent, but a remarkable change of slope occurs in the $R_H$ versus $T$ curves at $T = T_{\text{SDW}}$. The Hall coefficient amplitude, while remaining negative, increases steadily and significantly as the temperature is decreased below $T_{\text{SDW}}$ and down to $T =$ 20 K. The qualitative behavior of both MR and Hall coefficient is weakly dependent on the chemical substitution in the studied limit. The experiments provide strong evidence that scattering of charge carriers by magnetic excitations has to be taken into account to explain the behavior of the resistivity, magnetoresistance and Hall effect in the ordered phase of the studied compounds. Effects of multiple band conduction also must be considered for a complete interpretation of the results.

We report on magneto-optical imaging, magnetization, Hall effect and magneto-resistance experiments in Nb/Al_2O_3/Co thin film heterostructures. The magnetic field is applied perpendicularly to the plane of the film and gives rise to abrupt flux penetration of dendritic form. A magnetization texture is imprinted in the Co layer in perfect coincidence with these ramifications. The spin domains that mimic the vortex dendrites are stable upon the field removal. Moreover, the imprinted spin structure remains visible up to room temperature. Complementary magnetization, Hall effect and magneto-resistance experiments were performed in a similar sample where electrical contacts were placed on the Co layer. In the region of the field - temperature diagram where flux instabilities are known to occur in Nb films, irregular jumps are observed in the magnetic hysteresis and large amplitude noise is detected in the magneto-resistance and Hall resistivity data when measured as a function of the field.

Despite the discovery of new superconductors classes, high-Tc oxides continue to be a current topic, because of their complex phase diagrams and do**-dependant effects (allowing one to investigate the interaction between orbitals), as well as structural properties such as lattice distortion and charge ordering, among many others. Ruthenocuprates are magnetic superconductors in which the magnetic transition temperature is much higher than the critical superconducting temperature, making them unique compounds. With the aim of investigating the dilution of the magnetic Ru sub-lattice, we proposed the synthesis of the new Ru1-xRexSr2GdCu2Oy ruthenocupratetype family, adapting the known two-step process (double perovskite + CuO)by directly do** the double perovskite, thus obtaining the new perovskite compound Sr2GdRu1-xRexOy, which represents a new synthesis process to the best of our knowledge. Our samples were structurally characterised through X-ray diffraction, and the patterns were analysed via Rietveld refinement. A complete magnetic characterisation as a function of temperature and applied field, as well as transport measurements were carried out. We discuss our results in the light of the two-lattice model for ruthenocuprates, and a relation between RuO2 (magnetic) and CuO2 (superconductor) sublattices can clearly be observed.

We report in-field kinetic energy results in the temperature region closely below the transition temperature of two differently prepared polycrystalline samples of the superconducting cuprate SmBa$_{\text{2}}$Cu$_{\text{3}}$O$_{7-δ}$. The kinetic energy was determined from magnetization measurements performed above the irreversibility line defined by the splitting between the curves obtained according the ZFC and FC prescriptions. The results are analyzed in the intermediate field regime where the London approximation can be used for describing the magnetization. From the analysis, estimations were carried out for the penetration depth and the upper critical field of the studied samples. The difference between the kinectic energy magnitudes for the two studied samples is ascribed to effects from granularity.

Comparing the exponents obtained in our work with indices for other re-entrant systems reported in the literature, a weak universality class may be defined where the exponents distribute within a certain range around average values.

An anomalous Hall contribution linked to the tilting of the local spins can be identified, confirming theoretical predictions of a novel topological Hall term induced when chirality is present. This effect can be understood in terms of Aharonov-Bohm-like intrinsic current loops arising from successive scatterings by canted local spins. The experimental measurements indicate that the chiral signal persists, meaning scattering within the nanoscopic loops remains coherent, up to temperatures of the order of 150 K.
