The process of energy outflow of the core modes has always been associated with the process of constructive interference of the core modes fields under reflection from the photonic crystal cladding. In this paper, we want to offer a new look at the light localization in the core of SC MOFs related to the behavior of spin and orbital parts of the Poynting vector of these core modes and singularities arising in it.

Structured light, in particular light possessing orbital angular momentum (OAM), has been actively studied in recent decades. Helical Bragg grating (HBG) is a reflecting optical element, which predicted to be able to convert the OAM of light in waveguides and fibers. However, the HBG has not been demonstrated experimentally yet. Here we report the first experimental manifestation of HBG created in the form of a waveguide with depressed-index cladding. Few-mode channel helical-depressed-cladding waveguides (HDCWs) have been written in a YAG crystal by a femtosecond laser beam. The HDCW pitches were comparable to near-IR wavelengths. The spectral and polarization characteristics of the transmitted and reflected light have been studied. It was shown that HDCWs behave like HBGs providing narrowband resonance coupling of the counter propagating modes, the OAM of the modes differing by the Bragg order or, what is the same, the topological charge of the helical cladding structure. Adjusting the HDCW parameters allows one to excite a reflected wave at the predetermined wavelength and with the predetermined OAM change with respect to the light coupled to the waveguide. Thus, for the first time, the HBGs suitable for the generation and filtration of the vortex light have been experimentally demonstrated. The experimental results obtained agree well with the coupled mode theory calculations.

Optical properties of hollow-core revolver fibers are numerically investigated depending on various parameters: the hollow-core diameter, the capillary wall thickness, the values of the minimum gap between the capillaries, the number of capillaries in the cladding and the type of glass (silica and chalcogenide). Preliminary, similar calculations are made for simple models of hollow-core fibers. Based on the obtained results, the optimal design of the revolver fiber for Raman laser frequency conversion (1560 nm to 4420 nm in H2) was determined. As a result, efficient ns-pulsed 4420 nm Raman laser based on H2-filled revolver silica fiber is realized. Quantum efficiency as high as 36 % is achieved and output average power as high as 250 mW is demonstrated.

In this paper we consider an interaction between the air core modes of hollow core waveguide microstructures and core cladding boundary walls in various shapes. The analysis is based on well established models such as the anti-resonant reflecting optical waveguide model and on the models proposed for the first time. In particular, we consider the dynamics of light localization in the polygonalcore cladding boundary wall as dependant on the type of its discrete rotational symmetry. Based on our findings we analyze the mechanisms of light localization in the core cladding boundary walls of negative curvature hollow core microstructured fibers.

The analysis is based on well established models (for example, the ARROW model) and also on the models proposed for the first time. In particular, we consider local and nonlocal mechanisms of light localization in the waveguide structures with a determined type of discrete rotational symmetry of the core cladding boundary. We interpret and analyze mechanisms of light localization in negative curvature hollow core microstructured fibers (NC HCMFs) and simplified HC PCFs with a polygonal shape of the core cladding boundary.

Abstract:
We analyze the impact of geometrical parameters on such important optical characteristics of negative curvature hollow-core fibers (NCHCFs) as waveguide dispersion, waveguide losses and the structure of transmission bands. We consider both theoretically and experimentally the resonance effects and formation of band edges under bending in NCHCFs.

In this paper we propose a new hypothesis of out of plane band gap formation in all solid photonic band gap (PBG) fibers. At first, one considers the process of the core modes formation as a result of excitation of continuous mode spectrum of single dielectric rod of the cladding. It is shown that the core modes can be considered as transverse resonance of a set of the radiation modes decoupled from the continuum provided that the phase matching condition for the propagation constants are fulfilled. An analogy between the core mode formation in all solid PBG fibers and formation of bound states in the continuum in photonics are drawn. Based on these conclusions, the light guiding in all solid PBG fiber with disordered cladding structure and quasi 3D photonic band gap formation in all solid PBG fibers with a small index (1%) can be explained.
