A q-Levenberg-Marquardt method is an iterative procedure that blends a q-steepest descent and q-Gauss-Newton methods. When the current solution is far from the correct one the algorithm acts as the q-steepest descent method. Otherwise the algorithm acts as the q-Gauss-Newton method. A q-Gauss-Newton algorithm is an iterative procedure that solves nonlinear unconstrained optimization problems based on minimization of the sum squared errors of the objective function residuals. Main advantage of the algorithm is that it approximates matrix of q-second order derivatives with the first-order q-Jacobian matrix. For that reason, the algorithm is much faster than q-steepest descent algorithms. The convergence of q-GN method is assured only when the initial guess is close enough to the solution. In this paper the influence of the parameter q to the non-linear problem solving is presented through three examples. The results show that the q-GD algorithm finds an optimal solution and speeds up the iterative procedure.

A differential cross section of $\frac{dσ}{dΩ}=(0.69\pm{0.20}\text{(stat.)}\pm 0.20\text{(syst.)})\text{nb/sr}$ for the ground state plus the 1/2$^-$ was measured. The result is compared to model calculations.

Abstract:
We have measured inclusive data on $K^+$-meson production in $pp$ collisions at COSY Jülich close to the hyperon production threshold and determined the hyperon-nucleon invariant mass spectra. The spectra were decomposed into three parts: $Λp$, $Σ^0p$ and $Σ^+n$. The cross section for the $Σ^+n$ channel was found to be much smaller than a previous measurement in that excess energy region. The spectra were decomposed into three parts: $Λp$, $Σ^0p$ and $Σ^+n$. The cross section for the $Σ^+n$ channel was found to be much smaller than a previous measurement in that excess energy region. The data together with previous results at higher energies are compatible with a phase space dependence.

Inclusive measurements of pion production in proton--proton collisions in the forward direction were undertaken at 400 and 600 MeV at COSY using the Big Karl spectrograph. The high resolution in the $π^+$ momentum ensured that there was an unambiguous separation of the $pp\to π^+d/π^+pn$ channels. Using these and earlier data, the ratio of the production cross sections could be followed through the $Δ$ region and compared with the predictions of final state interaction theory. Deviations are strongly influenced by long-range terms in the production operator and the tensor force in the final $pn$ system. These have been investigated in a realistic $pp\toπ^+d/π^+pn$ calculation that includes $S \rightleftharpoons D$ channel coupling between the final nucleons. A semi-quantitative understanding of the observed effects is achieved.

The ambiguities in the partial-wave description of these data are made explicit by using the invariant amplitude decomposition. This allows the magnitude of the s-wave amplitude to be extracted and compared with results published at lower energies. In this way, firmer bounds could be obtained on the scattering length of the $ηα$ system. The results do not, however, unambiguously prove the existence of a quasi-bound $ηα$ state.

A telescope of three silicon detectors has been installed close to the internal target position of the ANKE spectrometer, which is situated inside the ultra-high vacuum of the COSY-Juelich light-ion storage ring. The detection and identification of slow protons and deuterons emerging from a deuterium cluster-jet target thus becomes feasible. A good measurement of the energy and angle of such a spectator proton (p_sp) allows one to identify a reaction as having taken place on the neutron in the target and then to determine the kinematical variables of the ion-neutron system on an event-by-event basis over a range of c.m. energies.
The system has been successfully tested under laboratory conditions. By measuring the spectator proton in the p d to p_sp d pi^0 reaction in coincidence with a fast deuteron in the ANKE Forward Detector, values of the p n to d pi^0 total cross-section have been deduced. Further applications of the telescope include the determination of the luminosity and beam polarisation which are required for several experiments.

Abstract:

The beam polarisation necessary for obtaining the vector and tensor analysing power for this reaction was measured. The method and the results of the tensor polarisation measurement of the deuteron beam are presented.

Among these processes, the $η$ meson is seen clearly as a sharp missing--mass peak on a slowly varying background in the $p+d\to ^3\textrm{He} +X$ reaction. Knowing the kinematics of the other reactions with well determined masses, it is possible to deduce a precise mass for the $η$ meson. The final result, $m(η)=547.311\pm 0.028 \textrm{(stat)} \pm 0.032 \textrm{(syst) MeV/c}^2$, is significantly lower than that found by the recent NA48 measurement, though it is consistent with values obtained in earlier counter experiments.

Abstract:
The production of neutral and charged pions as well as eta mesons is studied in the Delta and N* resonance region, respectively. Heavy A=3 recoils were measured with the GEM detector. The differential cross sections covering the full angular range are compared with model calculations.
