Abstract:
The $3$-colourability problem is a well-known NP-complete problem and it remains NP-complete for $bull$-free graphs, where $bull$ is the graph consisting of $K_3$ with two pendant edges attached to two of its vertices. In this paper we study $3$-colourability of $(bull,H)$-free graphs for several graphs $H$. We show that these graphs are $3$-colourable or contain an induced odd wheel $W_{2p+1}$ fo…

In this paper we study $3$-colourability of $(bull,H)$-free graphs for several graphs $H$. We show that these graphs are $3$-colourable or contain an induced odd wheel $W_{2p+1}$ for some $p\geq 2$ or a spindle graph $M_{3p+1}$ for some $p\geq 1$. Moreover, for all our results we can provide certifying algorithms that run in polynomial time.

Abstract:
In a rainbow version of the classical Turán problem one considers multiple graphs on a common vertex set, thinking of each graph as edges in a distinct color, and wants to determine the minimum number of edges in each color which guarantees existence of a rainbow copy (having at most one edge from each graph) of a given graph. Here, we prove an optimal solution for this problem for any directed st…

Abstract:
We consider edge colorings of graphs. An edge coloring is a majority coloring if for every vertex at most half of the edges incident with it are in one color. And edge coloring is a distinguishing coloring if for every non-trivial automorphism at least one edge changes its color. We consider these two notions together. We show that every graph without pendant edges has a majority distinguishing ed…

And edge coloring is a distinguishing coloring if for every non-trivial automorphism at least one edge changes its color. We consider these two notions together. We show that every graph without pendant edges has a majority distinguishing edge coloring with at most $\lceil\sqrtΔ\rceil+5$ colors. Moreover, we show results for some classes of graphs and a~general result for symmetric digraphs.

Abstract:
Erd\H os, Lovász and Spencer showed in the late 1970s that the dimension of the region of $k$-vertex graph profiles, i.e., the region of feasible densities of $k$-vertex graphs in large graphs, is equal to the number of non-trivial connected graphs with at most $k$ vertices. We determine the dimension of the region of $k$-vertex tournament profiles. Our result, which explores an interesting connec…

We determine the dimension of the region of $k$-vertex tournament profiles. Our result, which explores an interesting connection to Lyndon words, yields that the dimension is much larger than just the number of strongly connected tournaments, which would be the answer expected as the analogy to the setting of graphs.

Abstract:
One of the most fundamental results in graph theory is Mantel's theorem which determines the maximum number of edges in a triangle-free graph of order $n$. Recently a colorful variant of this problem has been solved. In such a variant we consider $c$ graphs on a common vertex set, thinking of each graph as edges in a distinct color, and want to determine the smallest number of edges in each color…

One of the most fundamental results in graph theory is Mantel's theorem which determines the maximum number of edges in a triangle-free graph of order $n$. Recently a colorful variant of this problem has been solved. In such a variant we consider $c$ graphs on a common vertex set, thinking of each graph as edges in a distinct color, and want to determine the smallest number of edges in each color which guarantees existence of a rainbow triangle. Here, we solve the analogous problem for directed graphs without rainbow triangles, either directed or transitive, for any number of colors. The constructions and proofs essentially differ for $c=3$ and $c \geq 4$ and the type of the forbidden triangle. Additionally, we also solve the analogous problem in the setting of oriented graphs.
