Magnesium alloys are emerging as promising alternatives to traditional orthopedic implant materials thanks to their biodegradability, biocompatibility, and impressive mechanical characteristics. However, their rapid in-vivo degradation presents challenges, notably in upholding mechanical integrity over time. This study investigates the impact of high-temperature thermal processing on the mechanical and degradation attributes of a lean Mg-Zn-Ca-Mn alloy, ZX10. Utilizing rapid, cost-efficient characterization methods like X-ray diffraction and optical, we swiftly examine microstructural changes post-thermal treatment. Employing Pearson correlation coefficient analysis, we unveil the relationship between microstructural properties and critical targets (properties): hardness and corrosion resistance. Additionally, leveraging the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), we pinpoint the dominant microstructural factors among closely correlated variables. Our findings underscore the significant role of grain size refinement in strengthening and the predominance of the ternary Ca2Mg6Zn3 phase in corrosion behavior. This suggests that achieving an optimal blend of strength and corrosion resistance is attainable through fine grains and reduced concentration of ternary phases. This thorough investigation furnishes valuable insights into the intricate interplay of processing, structure, and properties in magnesium alloys, thereby advancing the development of superior biodegradable implant materials.

This paper investigates fuzzy nonlinear system equations using an optimization approach. Here, the inner-outer direct search technique is used with fuzzy coefficients and vectors to quantify the uncertain solution. The fuzzy nonlinear system of equations is converted into an unconstrained fuzzy multivariable optimization problem with preserving the operating constraints. Then developed fuzzy inner-outer direct search is applied. The developed algorithm is demonstrated through an example problem. The obtained uncertain solutions are depicted and compared with the special case. The results are found to be in good agreement when the membership values are unity.

Convection-diffusion of heat transfer is one of the important phenomena in fluid flow and industrial problems. The involved parameters, boundary conditions, and material properties are greatly affecting the same. As such, the uncertainness of these parameters, conditions, and properties cannot be ignored. Therefore, the present research work focuses numerical approach to study the uncertain convection-diffusion of heat transfer problem. Here, the finite element method is employed with fuzzy uncertainties to investigate the uncertain temperatures for a plate problem. The uncertainty is considered with a 10% of error and then corresponding fuzzy numbers are generated. These fuzzy numbers are used in the governing differential equation and boundary conditions to get the nodal temperatures. A different combination of fuzzy parameters is considered and the obtained results are reported. Furthermore, the sensitiveness of these parameters is reported in a case study.

As Deep Learning algorithms continue to evolve and become more sophisticated, they require massive datasets for model training and efficacy of models. Some of those data requirements can be met with the help of existing datasets within the organizations. Current Machine Learning practices can be leveraged to generate synthetic data from an existing dataset. Further, it is well established that diversity in generated synthetic data relies on (and is perhaps limited by) statistical properties of available dataset within a single organization or entity. The more diverse an existing dataset is, the more expressive and generic synthetic data can be. However, given the scarcity of underlying data, it is challenging to collate big data in one organization. The diverse, non-overlap** dataset across distinct organizations provides an opportunity for them to contribute their limited distinct data to a larger pool that can be leveraged to further synthesize. Unfortunately, this raises data privacy concerns that some institutions may not be comfortable with.
This paper proposes a novel approach to generate synthetic data - FedSyn. FedSyn is a collaborative, privacy preserving approach to generate synthetic data among multiple participants in a federated and collaborative network. FedSyn creates a synthetic data generation model, which can generate synthetic data consisting of statistical distribution of almost all the participants in the network. FedSyn does not require access to the data of an individual participant, hence protecting the privacy of participant's data. The proposed technique in this paper leverages federated machine learning and generative adversarial network (GAN) as neural network architecture for synthetic data generation. The proposed method can be extended to many machine learning problem classes in finance, health, governance, technology and many more.

This article aims to numerically investigate the combustion phenomenon of coaxial gaseous CH4 LOx at supercritical pressures. The choice of turbulence model, real gas model, and chemical kinetics model are the critical parameters in numerical simulations of cryogenic combustion at high pressure. At this supercritical operating pressure, the ideal gas law does not remain valid for such cases. Therefore, we have systematically carried out a comparative study to analyze the importance of real gas models, turbulence parameters, and chemical kinetics at such conditions. The comparison of real gas models with the NIST database reveals better conformity of SRK (Soave Redlich Kwong Equation of State (EoS)) model predictions with the database. Further, the computed results indicate that the Standard k-e turbulence model with modified constant captures the better flame shape and temperature peak position compared to other RANS based turbulence models while invoking the non-premixed steady b-PDF flamelet model for simulating the combustion process. Furthermore, a comparative study comparing two different chemical kinetics models indicates that the reduced Jones Lindstedt mechanism can accurately predict the flame characteristics with the least computational cost. Finally, we have studied the effect of chamber pressure and LOx inlet temperature on the flame characteristics. The flame characteristics exhibit a strong sensitivity towards the chamber pressure due to the weakening of the pseudo-boiling effect with an increase in pressure. As a consequence of lower turbulent rates of energy and mass transfer through the transcritical mixing layer, the flame spreading becomes narrower at elevated pressure and temperature, thereby yielding an increased flame length at transcritical conditions.
