A new necessary and sufficient stability test in a tractable number of operations for linear neutral-type delay systems is introduced. It is developed in the Lyapunov-Krasovskii framework via functionals with prescribed derivatives. The necessary conditions, which stem from substituting any polynomial approximation of the functional argument, reduce to a quadratic form of monomials whose matrix is independent of the coefficients of the approximation under consideration. In the particular case of Chebyshev polynomials, the functional approximation error is quantified, leading to an estimate of the order of approximation such that the positive semi-definiteness of the functional is verified. Some examples illustrate the obtained results.

In this paper, we present estimates for solutions and for the attraction domain of the trivial solution for systems with delayed and nonlinear weighted homogeneous right-hand side of positive degree. The results are achieved via a generalization of the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional construction presented recently for homogeneous systems with standard dilation. Along with the classical approach for the calculation of the estimates within the Lyapunov-Krasovskii framework, we develop a novel approach which combines the use of Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals with ideas of the Razumikhin framework. More precisely, a lower bound for the functional on a special set of functions inspired by the Razumikhin condition is constructed, and an additional condition imposed on the solution of the comparison equation ensures that this bound can be used to estimate all solutions in a certain neighbourhood of the trivial one. An example shows that this approach yields less conservative estimates in comparison with the classical one.

In this contribution, the estimates for the response of time delay systems with nonlinear homogeneous right-hand side of degree strictly greater than one are constructed. The existing results obtained via the Lyapunov--Razumikhin approach are reminded. Their proofs, revisited in the appendix, lead to explicit expressions of the involved constants. Based on a recently introduced Lyapunov--Krasovskii functional and known estimates of the domain of attraction, we present new estimates of the system response. We compare both approaches and discuss the illustrative examples.

The BL Lac object 3C66A is one of the most luminous extragalactic sources at TeV $γ$-rays (VHE, i.e. $E >100$ GeV). The BL Lac object 3C66A is one of the most luminous extragalactic sources at TeV $γ$-rays (VHE, i.e. $E >100$ GeV). Since TeV $γ$-ray radiation is absorbed by the extragalactic background light (EBL), it is crucial to know the redshift of the source in order to reconstruct its original spectral energy distribution, as well as to constrain EBL models. However, the optical spectrum of this BL\,Lac is almost featureless, so a direct measurement of $z$ is very difficult; in fact, the published redshift value for this source ($z=0.444$) has been strongly questioned. Based on EBL absorption arguments, several constraints to its redshift, in the range $0.096 < z < 0.5$, were proposed.
Since these AGNs are hosted, typically, in early type galaxies that are members of groups or clusters, we have analysed spectro-photometrically the environment of 3C66A, with the goal of finding the galaxy group hosting this blazar. This study was made using optical images of a $5.5 \times 5.5$\,arcmin$^{2}$ field centred on the blazar, and spectra of 24 sources obtained with Gemini/GMOS-N multi-object spectroscopy.
We found spectroscopic evidence of two galaxy groups along the blazar's line of sight: one at $z \simeq 0.020$ and a second one at $z \simeq 0.340$. The first one is consistent with a known foreground structure, while the second group here presented has six spectroscopically confirmed members. Their location along a red sequence in the colour-magnitude diagram allows us to identify 34 additional candidate members of the more distant group. The blazar's spectrum shows broad absorption features that we identify as arising in the intergalactic medium, thus allowing us to tentatively set a redshift lower limit at $z_{3C66A} \ge 0.33$. As a consequence, we propose that 3C66A is hosted in a galaxy that belongs to a cluster at $z=0.340$.

(Abridge) The relationship between coronal line (CL) emission and nuclear activity in active galactic nuclei (AGNs) is analyzed, for the first time, based on NIR spectra. The 8 CLs studied, of Si, S, Fe, Al and Ca elements and corresponding to ionization potentials (IP) in the range 125-450 eV, are detected in 67% (36 AGNs) of the sample. The four most frequent CLs - [SiVI] 19630Å, [SVIII] 9913Å, [SIX] 12520Å and [SiX] 14320Å, - display a narrow range in luminosity, with most lines located in the interval logL 39-40 erg/s. We found that the non-detection is largely associated with either a lost of spatial resolution or increasing object distance. Yet, there are AGNs where the lack of CLs may be genuine and reflect an AGN ionising continuum lacking photons below a few keV. The FWHM of the lines profiles increases with increasing IP up to energies around 300 eV, where a maximum in the FWHM is reached. For higher IP lines, the FWHM remains nearly constant or decreases with increasing IP. We ascribe this effect to an increasing density environment as we approach to the innermost regions of the AGN, where densities above the critical density of the CLs with IP larger than 300 eV are reached. This sets a strict range limit for the density in the boundary region between the narrow and the broad region of 10^8 - 10^9 cm^{-3}. A relationship between the luminosity of the coronal lines and that of the soft and hard X-ray emission and the soft X-ray photon index is observed: the coronal emission becomes stronger with both increasing x-ray emission (soft and hard) and steeper X-ray photon index. Thus, photoionization appears as the dominant excitation mechanism. These trends hold when considering Type 1 sources only; they get weaker or vanish when including Type 2 sources, very likely because the X-ray emission measured in the later is not the intrinsic ionising continuum.
