Abnormal lithium abundance in several Ap-Bp stars

Using observations of rapidly rotating roAp star HD 12098, obtained with 6m telescope of SAO RAS in 2005-2008 in nine rotational phases (0.001-0.817), and code V. Tsymbal ROTATE we identified 3 lithium spots on the surface of star, one of them coincided with the position of one magnetic pole and two others are located near the other pole, symmetrically with respect to it. Perhaps magnetic field of the star has a more complex structure than the dipole (Shavrina 2008). Lithium abundance in the spots is greater than cosmic one. It can be explained by diffusion of lithium in the presence of a magnetic field or by production of lithium in the reactions of "spallation" on the surface of star near the magnetic poles (see, for example, Goriely 2007). Enhanced lithium abundances was also determined for other two slowly rotating Ap stars HR 465 and HD 965. The analysis is performed using a synthetic spectrum method taking into account magnetic splitting of lines by the SYNTHM code of Khan (2004).

In atmospheres of magnetic main-sequence stars, the diffusion of chemical elements leads to a number of observed anomalies, such as abundance spots across the stellar surface. The aim of this study was to derive a detailed picture of the surface abundance distribution of the magnetic chemically peculiar star HD 3980. Based on high-resolution, phase-resolved spectroscopic observations of the magnetic A-type star HD 3980, the inhomogeneous surface distribution of 13 chemical elements (Li, O, Si, Ca, Cr, Mn, Fe, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Eu, and Gd) has been reconstructed. The INVERS12 code was used to invert the rotational variability in line profiles to elemental surface distributions. Assuming a centered, dominantly dipolar magnetic field configuration, we find that Li, O, Mg, Pr, and Nd are mainly concentrated in the area of the magnetic poles and depleted in the regions around the magnetic equator. The high abundance spots of Si, La, Ce, Eu, and Gd are located between the magnetic poles and the magnetic equator. Except for La, which is clearly depleted in the area of the magnetic poles, no obvious correlation with the magnetic field has been found for these elements otherwise. Ca, Cr, and Fe appear enhanced along the rotational equator and the area around the magnetic poles. The intersection between the magnetic and the rotational equator constitutes an exception, especially for Ca and Cr, which are depleted in that region. No obvious correlation between the theoretically predicted abundance patterns and those determined in this study could be found. This can be attributed to a lack of up-to-date theoretical models, especially for rare earth elements.

Magnetic splitting and other line broadening processes were taken into account. Enhanced abundances of lithium in the atmospheres of the stars studied are obtained for both the lithium lines. High estimates of 6Li/7Li ratio (0.2 -- 0.5) for the studied star can be explained by Galactic Cosmic Ray (GCR) production through the spallation reactions and the preservation of the original $^6$Li and $^7$Li by the strong magnetic fields.

We discuss the way of increasing of the number of chemical elements, investigated in stellar spectra. We can reach it by using spectrum synthesis method, new atomic data and observation of stellar spectra with resolution comparable to solar spectral atlases. We show two examples of this kind researches. The first is the implementation of new atomic data to well known Przybylski's star. We show that the number of spectral lines, which can be identificated in the spectrum of this star can be significantly higher. The second example is the investigation of zeta Cyg. We found the abundances of 51 elements in the atmosphere of this mild barium star.

They prove that Li lines are present in the range 6707.72-6708.02 AA, and that the resulting Li abundance is 3.1 dex (in the scale log N(H) = 12.0, while the isotopic ratio 6Li/7Li is near to 0.3.

We present the results of the observations of some roAp stars made at Mount Stromlo Observatory during 17 nights in 2001 September-October. This long observing run permitted us to obtain a good phase-rotation coverage. In chemically peculiar magnetic stars, the Li I 6708 A spectral line presents very anomalous behaviour: in some stars it is a strong feature, in others, with similar atmospheric parameters, it is invisible. Interesting results were obtained for the roAp star HD 3980 which presents variations of the profile and position of the Li I line with the rotation period. These new observational results should serve as a base for the development of atmospheric models of ``Li-spotted'' roAp stars.
