In this article, two analytical formulas for the calculation of mutual inductance between a circular filament and line segment arbitrarily positioning in the space are derived by using Mutual Inductance Method (MIM) and Babic's Method (BM), respectively. Using the fact that any curve can be interpolated by a set of line segments, a method for calculation of mutual inductance between a circular filament and filament having an arbitrary shape in the space is proposed based on the derived analytical formulas. The derived two formulas and the proposed method (Segmentation Method) were numerically validated by using FastHenry software and reference examples from the literature. In particular, the proposed method was successfully applied to the calculation of mutual inductance between the circular filament and the following special curves such as circle, circular arc, elliptic arc, ellipse, spiral, helices and conical helices. All results of the calculation are in good agreement with the reference examples.

In this article, sets of analytical formulas for calculation of nine components of magnetic stiffness of corresponding force arising between two current-carrying circular filaments arbitrarily oriented in the space are derived by using Babic's method and the method of mutual inductance (Kalantarov-Zeitlin's method). Formulas are presented through integral expressions, whose kernel function is expressed in terms of the elliptic integrals of the first and second kinds. Also, we obtained an additional set of expressions for calculation of components of magnetic stiffness by means of differentiation of Grover's formula of the mutual inductance between two circular filaments with respect to appropriate coordinates. The derived sets of formulas were mutually validated and results of calculation of components of magnetic stiffness agree well to each other.

These additional expressions allow to verifying comprehensively and independently derived new formulas.

In this article, a systematic and comprehensive approach based on finite element analysis and analytical modelling for studying static pull-in phenomena in hybrid levitation micro-actuators is presented. A finite element model of electromagnetic levitation micro-actuators based on the Lagrangian formalism is formulated and developed as a result of recent progress in the analytical calculation of mutual inductance between filament loops. In particular, the developed finite element model allows us to calculate accurately and efficiently a distribution of induced eddy current within a levitated micro-object. At the same time, this fact provides a reason for formulating the analytical model in which the distribution of the induced eddy current can be approximated by one circuit represented by a circular filament. In turn, both developed models predict the static pull-in parameters of hybrid levitation micro-actuators without needs for solving nonlinear differential equations. The results of modelling obtained by means of the developed quasi-finite element and analytical model are verified by the comparison with experimental results.

In this article, we present a new analytical formulation for calculation of the mutual inductance between two circular filaments arbitrarily oriented with respect to each other, as an alternative to Grover [1] and Babic [2] expressions reported in 1944 and 2010, respectively. The formula is derived via a generalisation of the Kalantarov-Zeitlin method, which showed that the calculation of mutual inductance between a circular primary filament and any other secondary filament having an arbitrary shape and any desired position with respect to the primary filament is reduced to a line integral. In particular, the obtained formula provides a solution for the singularity issue arising in the Grover and Babic formulas for the case when the planes of the primary and secondary circular filaments are mutually perpendicular. The efficiency and flexibility of the Kalantarov-Zeitlin method allow us to extend immediately the application of the obtained result to a case of the calculation of the mutual inductance between a primary circular filament and its projection on a tilted plane. Newly developed formulas have been successfully validated through a number of examples available in the literature, and by a direct comparison with the results of calculation performed by the FastHenry software.

In this article, we present a qualitative approach to study the dynamics and stability of micro-machined inductive contactless suspensions (MIS). In the framework of this approach, the induced eddy current into a levitated micro-object is considered as a collection of m-eddy current circuits. Assuming small displacements and the quasi- static behaviour of the levitated micro-object, a generalized model of MIS is obtained and represented as a set of six linear differential equations corresponding to six degrees of freedom in a rigid body by using Lagrange-Maxwell formalism. The linear model allows us to investigate the general stability properties of the MIS as a dynamic system, and these properties are synthesized in three major theorems. In particular, we prove that the stable levitation in the MIS without dam** is impossible. Based on the approach presented herewith, we give general guidelines for MIS designing. In addition to we demonstrate the successful application of this technique to study the dynamics and stability of the symmetric and axially symmetric MIS designs both based on 3D micro-coil technology.
