In this paper, we present a quantum computational method to calculate the many-body Green's function matrix in a spin orbital basis. We apply our approach to finite-sized fermionic Hubbard models and related impurity models within Dynamical Mean Field Theory, and demonstrate the calculation of Green's functions on Quantinuum's H1-1 trapped-ion quantum computer. Our approach involves a cumulant expansion of the Lanczos method, using Hamiltonian moments as measurable expectation values. This bypasses the need for a large overhead in the number of measurements due to repeated applications of the variational quantum eigensolver (VQE), and instead measures the expectation value of the moments with one set of measurement circuits. From the measured moments, the tridiagonalised Hamiltonian matrix can be computed, which in turn yields the Green's function via continued fractions. While we use a variational algorithm to prepare the ground state in this work, we note that the modularity of our implementation allows for other (non-variational) approaches to be used for the ground state.

Hydrogen has emerged as a promising energy source, holding the key to achieve low-carbon and sustainable mobility. However, its applications are still limited by modest conversion efficiency in the electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) within fuel cells. Consequently, the development of novel catalysts and a profound understanding of the underlying reactions have become of paramount importance. The complex nature of the ORR potential energy landscape and the presence of strong electronic correlations present challenges to atomistic modelling using classical computers. This scenario opens new avenues for the implementation of novel quantum computing workflows to address these molecular systems. Here, we present a pioneering study that combines classical and quantum computational approaches to investigate the ORR on pure platinum and platinum/cobalt surfaces. Our research demonstrates, for the first time, the feasibility of implementing this workflow on the H1-series trapped-ion quantum computer and identify the challenges of the quantum chemistry modelling of this reaction. The results highlight the involvement of strongly correlated species in the cobalt-containing catalyst, suggesting their potential as ideal candidates for showcasing quantum advantage in future applications.

Oxide heterostructures have repeatedly been shown to display apical properties at the interfaces, some of which favorable to the formation of two-dimensional electron systems, as well as high transition temperature superconductivity. In this study, we propose a novel heterostructure to potentially achieve near room-temperature superconductivity, via the carrier injection in cuprate interfaces with ferro-electrics. Using a digital design approach guided by density-functional theory, the systems of XTiO3/XCuO3/XTiO3 are thoroughly examined, confirming the formation of a two-dimensional electron gas at the cuprous oxide interface. Via the manipulation of lattice parameters, the key ingredients for two-dimensional electron gas formation is explored. We apply cluster dynamical mean-field theory on the cuprous oxide plane and probe the superconducting properties of the system XTiO3/XCuO3/XTiO3 . As a result, we see a marked increase of superconducting ordering parameter near the fully occupied regime, a known marker for the superconducting transition temperature.

Lanthanide hydrogen-rich materials have long been considered as one of the candidates with high-temperature superconducting properties in condensed matter physics, and have attracted great interest. Attempts to investigate the effects of different compositions of lanthanide hydrogen-rich materials are ongoing, with predictions and experimental studies in recent years having shown that substances such as LaH 10 , CeH 9 , and LaH 16 exhibit extremely high superconducting temperatures between 150-250 GPa. In particular, researchers have noted that in those materials an increase in the f character at the Fermi level leads to an increase in the superconducting temperature. Here, we further elaborate on the effect of the ratios of lanthanide to hydrogen in these substances with the aim to bring more clarity to the study of superhydrides in these extreme cases by comparing a variety of lanthanide hydrogen-rich materials with different ratios using the DMFT method, and provide ideas for later structural predictions and material property studies.

In this work, we propose a first principles calculation platform with the inclusion of many-body corrections to evaluate the detailed physical properties of the Ce-H and La-H systems and to understand the structure, stability and superconductivity of these systems at ultra-high pressure. We provide a practical approach to further investigate conventional superconductivity in hydrogen rich superhydrides. We report that density functional theory provides accurate structure and phonon frequencies, but many-body corrections lead to an increase of the critical temperature, that is associated with spectral weight transfer of the f-states.

Pressure induced isostructural insulator to metal transition for SmS is characterised by the presence of an intermediate valence state at higher pressure which cannot be captured by the density functional theory. As a direct outcome of including the charge and spin fluctuations incorporated in dynamical mean field theory, we see the emergence of insulating and metallic phases with increasing pressure as a function of changing valence. This is accompanied by significantly improved predictions of the equilibrium lattice constants and bulk moduli for all Sm-monochalcogenides verifying experiments. Nudged Elastic Band analysis reveals the insulating states to have a finite quasiparticle weight, decreasing as the gap closes rendering the transition to be not Mott-like, and classifies these materials as correlated band insulators. The difference between the discontinuous and continuous natures of these transitions can be attributed to the closeness of the sharply resonant Sm-4f peaks to the fermi level in the predicted metallic states in SmS as compared to SmSe and SmTe.

With the motivation of discovering new hydrogen-rich high-T$_c$ superconductors at lowest possible pressure, quantitative theoretical predictions are needed. In these promising compounds, superconductivity is mediated by the highly energetic lattice vibrations associated with hydrogen and their interplay with the electronic structure, requiring fine descriptions of the electronic properties, notoriously challenging for correlated $f$ systems. In this work, we propose a first-principles calculation platform with the inclusion of many-body corrections to evaluate the detailed physical properties of the Ce-H system and to understand the structure, stability and superconductivity of CeH$_9$ at high pressure. We report how the prediction of T$_c$ is affected by the hierarchy of many-body corrections, and obtain a compelling increase of T$_c$ at the highest level of theory, which goes in the direction of experimental observations. Our findings shed a significant light on the search for superhydrides in close similarity with atomic hydrogen within a feasible pressure range. We provide a practical platform to further investigate and understand conventional superconductivity in hydrogen rich superhydrides.

We show how to treat the non-local projection terms arising within the pseudopotential formalism and circumvent the problem of non-orthogonality of the Kohn-Sham eigenvectors. Our approach is, in principle, independent of the DMFT solver employed, and here was tested with the Hubbard I solver. We benchmark our formalism by comparing against the forces calculated in Ce$_{2}$O$_{3}$ and PrO$_2$ by numerical differentiation of the total free energy, as well as by comparing the energy profiles against the numerically integrated analytical forces.

In this paper we show how the ISDW can be efficiently obtained within the recently released $ΘΦ$ program. We illustrate this on an example of the single orbital Hubbard model and of $γ$-Fe, where the ISDW emerge within the mean-field approximation and by using the twisted boundary conditions. We show the excellent agreement of the $ΘΦ$ with the previously published ones and discuss possible extensions. Finally, we generalize the previously given framework for spin quantization axis rotation to the most general case of spin-dependent hop** matrix elements.

However, the behavior of the surface states in case of non local macroscopic imperfections is not clear. Here, we propose a systematic study of the topological surface states on vicinal planes (deviations from perfect surface cleavage) in a topological crystalline insulator of the tin telluride family, by using realistic first-principles-derived tight-binding models. The theoretical framework proposed is quite general and easily permits the extensions to other topological insulator families.

Dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) is one of the most widely-used methods to treat accurately electron correlation effects in ab-initio real material calculations. Many modern large-scale implementations of DMFT in electronic structure codes involve solving a quantum impurity model with a Continuous-Time Quantum Monte Carlo (CT-QMC) solver. The main advantage of CT-QMC is that, unlike standard quantum Monte Carlo approaches, it is able to generate the local Green's functions of the correlated system on an arbitrarily fine imaginary time grid, and is free of any systematic errors. In this work, we extend a hybrid QMC solver proposed by Khatami et al. and Rost et al. to a multi-orbital context. This has the advantage of enabling impurity solver QMC calculations to scale linearly with inverse temperature and permit its application to d and f band materials. In addition, we present a novel Green's function processing scheme which generates accurate quasi-continuous imaginary time solutions of the impurity problem which overcome errors inherent to standard QMC approaches. This solver and processing scheme are incorporated into a full DFT+DMFT calculation using the CASTEP DFT code. Benchmark calculations for strontium vanadate properties are presented.

In the field of condensed matter, the quest to obtain an experimental realization of a Kondo lattice has generated a tremendous effort of the community, from both standpoints of experiments and theory. The pursuit of obtaining independent magnetic moments, via charge localization through Coulomb interactions, is paramount for applications in nanotechnology. In particular, systems with simultaneous charge and spin degrees of freedom can manifest both Kondo spin quenching and Mott-Hubbard charge localization. A unified experimental framework illuminating the pathway between the two phenomena is of physical and technological interest, and is (as of yet) hardly observed in real condensed matter systems. Recent developments in the ability to control densities and temperatures of strongly correlated Fermionic impurities on surfaces and substrates has opened up a new paradigm of possibilities for this pathway. In particular, a milestone was recently surpassed through the observation of self-assembled superlattices of f band adatoms on metallic surfaces, such as the deposition of Ce on Ag(111). Such lattices have introduced a mechanism of diluted correlated lattices where the interaction between Kondo and Mott physics can be methodically studied. However, it remains difficult to control the adatom distances and substrate densities in these systems, and the interplay between Kondo physics and charge localization remains elusive. In this work, we systematically investigate the phase diagram of superlattice structures of heavy f elements deposited on metallic substrates, and assess the required conditions to obtain Kondo lattices in superlattices. We unveil a unique pathway between Kondo quenching and Mott localization, and identify a non-trivial charge density wave phase emerging from the competition of charge localization and Kondo physics.

We explain in detail the theoretical framework for DFT+DMFT and we demonstrate our implementation for three strongly-correlated systems with $f$-shell electrons: $γ$-cerium, cerium sesquioxide Ce$_{2}$O$_{3}$ and samarium telluride SmTe by using a Hubbard I solver. We find very good agreement with previous benchmark DFT+DMFT calculations of cerium compounds, while for SmTe, which was never studied within DFT+DMFT before to the best of our knowledge, we show the improved agreement with the experimental structural parameters as compared with LDA. Our implementation works equally well for both norm-conserving and ultra-soft pseudopotentials, and we apply it to the calculation of total energy, bulk modulus, equilibrium volumes and internal forces in the two cerium compounds. In Ce$_{2}$O$_{3}$ we report a dramatic reduction of the internal forces acting on coordinates not constrained by unit cell symmetries. This reduction is induced by the many-body effects, which can only be captured at the DMFT level. In addition, we derive an alternative form for treating the high-frequency tails of the Green function in Matsubara frequency summations. Our treatment allows a reduction in the bias when calculating the correlation energies and occupation matrices to high precision.

High temperature superconductivity has been found in many kinds of compounds built from planes of Cu and O, separated by spacer layers. Understanding why critical temperatures are so high has been the subject of numerous investigations and extensive controversy. To realize high temperature superconductivity, parent compounds are either hole-doped, such as {La$_{2}$CuO$_4$} (LCO) with Sr (LSCO), or electron doped, such as {Nd$_{2}$CuO$_4$} (NCO) with Ce (NCCO). In the electron doped cuprates, the antiferromagnetic phase is much more robust than the superconducting phase. However, it was recently found that the reduction of residual out-of-plane apical oxygens dramatically affects the phase diagram, driving those compounds to a superconducting phase. Here we use a recently developed first principles method to explore how displacement of the apical oxygen (A-O) in LCO affects the optical gap, spin and charge susceptibilities, and superconducting order parameter. By combining quasiparticle self-consistent GW (QS\emph{GW}) and dynamical mean field theory (DMFT), that LCO is a Mott insulator; but small displacements of the apical oxygens drive the compound to a metallic state through a localization/delocalization transition, with a concomitant maximum $d$-wave order parameter at the transition. We address the question whether NCO can be seen as the limit of LCO with large apical displacements, and elucidate the deep physical reasons why the behaviour of NCO is so different than the hole doped materials. We shed new light on the recent correlation observed between T$_c$ and the charge transfer gap, while also providing a guide towards the design of optimized high-Tc superconductors. Further our results suggest that strong correlation, enough to induce Mott gap, may not be a prerequisite for high-Tc superconductivity.

Here, by combining high- resolution angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy and first principles calculations (with and without spin-orbit coupling), the electronic structure of the rutile binary iridate, IrO$_2$ is investigated. The detailed study of electronic bands measured on a high-quality single crystalline sample, and use of a wide range of photon energy provide a huge improvement over the previous studies. The excellent agreement between theory and experimental results shows that the single-particle DFT description of IrO$_2$ band structure is adequate, without the need of invoking any treatment of correlation effects. Although many observed features point to a 3D nature of the electronic structure, clear surface effects are revealed. The discussion of the orbital character of the relevant bands crossing the Fermi level sheds light on spin orbit coupling-driven phenomena in this material, unveiling a spin-orbit induced avoided crossing, a property likely to play key role in its large spin Hall effect.

In order to carefully address the interplay between substitutional disorder and spin-orbit-coupling in IV-VI alloys, we propose a novel theoretical approach that integrates the reliability of plane-wave based density-functional theory beyond the local-density approximation with the Coherent Potential Approximation. By applying the proposed method to ternary chalcogenide alloys, we predict a substantial robustness of spectral features close to the Fermi energy against substitutional disorder. Supplementing our first-principles calculations with the analysis of the $k \cdot p$ model for rock-salt chalcogenides, we show that the disorder self-energy is vanishingly small close to the band gap, thus allowing for bulk Rashba-like spin splitting to be observed in ferroelectric alloys, such as PbS$_x$Te$_{1-x}$, and protecting the band-character inversion related to the topological transition in the recently discovered Topological Crystalline Insulator Pb$_{1-x}$Sn$_x$Te.

We present the exact solution, obtained by means of the Transfer Matrix (TM) method, of the 1D Hubbard model with nearest-neighbor (NN) and next-nearest-neighbor (NNN) Coulomb interactions in the atomic limit (t=0). The competition among the interactions ($U$, $V_1$, and $V_2$) generates a plethora of T=0 phases in the whole range of fillings. $U$, $V_1$, and $V_2$ are the intensities of the local, NN and NNN interactions, respectively. We report the T=0 phase diagram, in which the phases are classified according to the behavior of the principal correlation functions, and reconstruct a representative electronic configuration for each phase. In order to do that, we make an analytic limit $T\to 0$ in the transfer matrix, which allows us to obtain analytic expressions for the ground state energies even for extended transfer matrices. Such an extension of the standard TM technique can be easily applied to a wide class of 1D models with the interaction range beyond NN distance, allowing for a complete determination of the T=0 phase diagrams.

Within the Composite Operator Method (COM), we report the solution of the Emery model (also known as p-d or three band model), which is relevant for the cuprate high-Tc superconduc- tors. We also discuss the relevance of the often-neglected direct oxygen-oxygen hop** for a more accurate, sometimes unique, description of this class of materials. The benchmark of the solution is performed by comparing our results with the available quantum Monte Carlo ones. Both single- particle and thermodynamic properties of the model are studied in detail. Our solution features a metal-insulator transition at half filling. The resulting metal-insulator phase diagram agrees qual- itatively very well with the one obtained within Dynamical Mean-Field Theory. We discuss the type of transition (Mott-Hubbard (MH) or charge-transfer (CT)) for the microscopic (ab-initio) parameter range relevant for cuprates getting, as expected a CT type. The emerging single-particle scenario clearly suggests a very close relation between the relevant sub-bands of the three- (Emery) and the single- band (Hubbard) models, thus providing an independent and non-perturbative proof of the validity of the map** between the two models for the model parameters optimal to describe cuprates. Such a result confirms the emergence of the Zhang-Rice scenario, which has been recently questioned. We also report the behavior of the specific heat and of the entropy as functions of the temperature on varying the model parameters as these quantities, more than any other, depend on and, consequently, reveal the most relevant energy scales of the system.

In this paper we present for the first time the exact solution in the narrow-band limit of the 1D extended Hubbard model with nearest-neighbour spin-spin interactions described by an exchange constant J. An external magnetic field h is also taken into account. This result has been obtained in the framework of the Green's functions formalism, using the Composite Operator Method. By means of this theoretical background, we have studied some relevant features such as double occupancy, magnetization, spin-spin and charge-charge correlation functions and derived a phase diagram for both ferro (J>0) and anti-ferro (J<0) coupling in the limit of zero temperature. We also report a study on density of states, specific heat, charge and spin susceptibilities. In the limit of zero temperature, we show that the model exhibits a very rich phase diagram characterized by different magnetic orders and by the coexistence of charge and spin orderings at commensurate filling. Moreover, our analysis at finite temperature of density of states and response functions shows the presence of low-temperature charge and spin excitations near the phase boundaries.

The result on the analyzing powers Ay, Ayy of the deuteron at 2000 MeV are compared with relativistic multiple scattering model calculations. The data on the tensor analyzing powers for the d(d,3H)p and d(d,3He)n reactions obtained at Ed = 200 and 270 MeV demonstrate the sensitivity to the 3H, 3He and deuteron spin structure. The essential disagreements between the experimental results and the theoretical calculations within the one-nucleon exchange model framework are observed. Among them is the orbital-selective Mott transition (OSMT), which is thought to occur in several materials as Ca$_{2-x}$Sr$_x$RuO$_4$ and La$_{n+1}$Ni${_n}$O$_{3n+1}$. OSMT is usually studied in the infinite-dimension limit, and for the time being, it is not clear if it could survive in one-dimensional (1D) case. There exist two scenarios for the OSMT: upon increasing the interaction in a two-band system i) one of the bands becomes insulating, while the other remains metallic and ii) one of the bands becomes empty, while the other may eventually undergo a single-band Mott insulator transition. In this work, we present a preliminary study of the two-orbital Hubbard model by means of Density Matrix Renormalization Group in 1D at quarter-filling, where the second scenario seems to be realized. In particular, we study the orbital densities, double occupancies and form-factors also in the case of finite inter-orbital inter-site hop**.

Using irradiation of a 1-meter Hydrogen Bubble Chamber (LHE JINR) by a quasimonochromatic neutron beam with impulse Pn=(5.20 +/- 0.12)GeV/c produced after acceleration of deuterons in the synchrophasotron (LHE JINR) 2560 events of reaction np-->npPi+Pi- were selected. After supplementary sorting out the events where a secondary proton flies forward in the general c.m.s. of reaction in the effective mass spectrum of Pi+Pi- - combinations, there were nine peculiarities found out at masses 350, 408, 489, 579, 676, 762, 878, 1036, 1170 MeV/c^2 with experimental widths not more than several tens of MeV/c^2. The resonance effects grow too much after using an additional criterion - balance of the sum of the longitudinal impulse of Pi+ and Pi--mesons in the general c.m.s. of the reaction. Under these conditions the values of a standard derivation from the background are (5 - 7.5). The direct measurement of the spin of resonances was carried out. Also other quantum numbers were obtained. All of these peculiarities have a similar set of quantum numbers I^G(J^(PC))=0+(0++). This way the sequence of scalar-izoscalar resonances f0(SIGMA0) with masses in the range of M<M1200 MeV/c^2 are to be seen. There is no information about these resonances in the literature. The phenomenological dependence for the resonance mass from its number was found. This dependence covered not only resonances shown in this paper but also all those which are present in PDG tables with quantum numbers f0(SIGMA0) - mesons.

We have analyzed, in great detail, the equal-time two-spin correlation functions, both in- and out-of- plane, as functions of the distance (and momentum). Then, we have extracted, through an accurate fitting procedure, the exponents of the asymptotic power-law decay of the spatial correlations. We have used the exact solution of $XXZ$ model ($J'=0$) to benchmark our results, which clearly show the expected agreement. A critical value of $J'$ has been found where the relevant power-law decay exponent is independent of the in-plane nearest-neighbor coupling.

The issue of ergodicity is often underestimated. The presence of zero-frequency excitations in bosonic Green's functions determine the appearance of zero-frequency momentum-dependent quantities in correlation functions. The implicit dependence of matrix elements make such quantities also relevant in the computation of susceptibilities. Consequently, the correct determination of these quantities is of great relevance and the well-established practice of fixing them by assuming the ergodicity of the dynamics is quite questionable as it is not justifiable a priori by no means. In this manuscript, we have investigated the ergodicity of the dynamics of the $z$-component of the spin in the 1D Heisenberg model with anisotropic nearest-neighbor and isotropic next-nearest-neighbor interactions. We have obtained the zero-temperature phase diagram in the thermodynamic limit by extrapolating Exact and Lanczos diagonalization results computed on chains with sizes $L = 6 ÷26$. Two distinct non-ergodic regions have been found: one for $J^\prime/J_z \lesssim 0.3$ and $|J_\perp|/J_z < 1$ and another for $J^\prime/J_z \lesssim 0.25$ and $|J_\perp|/J_z = 1$. On the contrary, finite-size scaling of $T \neq 0$ results, obtained by means of Exact diagonalization on chains with sizes $L = 4 ÷18$, indicates an ergodic behavior of dynamics in the whole range of parameters.

Abstract:
Ten resonances were found in the mass spectrum of pi+pi- -system from the reaction np->nppi+pi- in np-interactions at Pn=5.20 GeV/c in the 1-m HBC of LHE JINR by using the criterion cos(teta)[c.m.c.] p>0. Such effects were not found in pi-pi0 - combinations from the reaction np->pppi-pi0. Therefore, it is necessary to attribute the value of isotopic spin I = 0 to the resonances found in the mass…

Therefore, it is necessary to attribute the value of isotopic spin I = 0 to the resonances found in the mass spectrum of the pi+pi- -system. The spin was estimated for the most statistically provided resonances. We determine with a high degree of confidence that J = 0 for the resonances at MR = 757 MeV/c^2 and MR = 418 MeV/c^2. Therefore, it can be affirmed that at least 3 states with quantum numbers of sigma0-meson 0+(0++) have been found at masses of 418, 511 and 757 MeV/c^2. The fact low-mass sigma0-mesons are glueballs is one of the possible interpretations. The comparison with the data of other papers has also been made. The investigation has been performed at the Veksler and Baldin Laboratory of High Energies,JINR.

A number of peculiarities was found in the effective mass spectrum of the mentioned above system. All these resonances have a large statistical significance. Their widths are comparable with the mass resolution. The estimation of the spins of resonances was carried out and the rotational band connecting the resonances masses and their spins was constructed.

Abstract:
We define a suitable quantity $Z_c$ that measures the pairing strength of two electrons added to the ground state wave function by means of the anomalous part of the one-particle Green's function. $Z_c$ discriminates between systems described by one-electron states, like ordinary metals and band insulators, for which $Z_c=0$, and systems where the single particle picture does not hold, like supe…

We define a suitable quantity $Z_c$ that measures the pairing strength of two electrons added to the ground state wave function by means of the anomalous part of the one-particle Green's function. $Z_c$ discriminates between systems described by one-electron states, like ordinary metals and band insulators, for which $Z_c=0$, and systems where the single particle picture does not hold, like superconductors and resonating valence bond insulators, for which $Z_c \ne 0$. By using a numerically exact projection technique for the Hubbard model at $U/t=4$, a finite value of $Z_c$, with d-wave symmetrry, is found at half filling and in the lightly doped regime, thus emphasizing a qualitatively new feature coming from electronic correlation.

Abstract:
We study by Variational Monte Carlo an extended Hubbard model away from half filled band density which contains two competing nearest-neighbor interactions: a superexchange $J$ favoring d-wave superconductivity and a repulsion $V$ opposing against it. We find that the on-site repulsion $U$ effectively enhances the strength of $J$ meanwhile suppressing that of $V$, thus favoring superconductivity…

We study by Variational Monte Carlo an extended Hubbard model away from half filled band density which contains two competing nearest-neighbor interactions: a superexchange $J$ favoring d-wave superconductivity and a repulsion $V$ opposing against it. We find that the on-site repulsion $U$ effectively enhances the strength of $J$ meanwhile suppressing that of $V$, thus favoring superconductivity. This result shows that attractions which do not involve charge fluctuations are very well equipped against strong electron-electron repulsion so much to get advantage from it.
