Taking into account the recent developments associated with duality in physics, this article is focused on investigating the properties of a tensor generalization of the electrodynamics dual to the standard vector model even considering the full radiative corrections. A discussion on duality is extended for non-linearly interacting models. The alternative tensor structure allows a new local self-interaction and also a partial gauge invariant mass term. In this way, the renormalization conditions, a new interaction, Ward-Takahashi identities for all the sets of gauge symmetries, and the Schwinger-Dyson quantum equations are carefully provided to consistently characterize the propagating modes of the quantum system. The possibility of this gauge invariant massive extension is considered from the perspective of a generalized Stueckelberg procedure for higher derivative systems.

Not all complete set of spinors can be used as expansion coefficients of a quantum field. In fact, Steven Weinberg established the uniqueness of Dirac spinors for this purpose provided: (a) one paid due attention to the multiplicative phases for each of the spinors, and (b) one paired these to creation and annihilation operators in a specific manner. This is implicit in his implementation of the rotational symmetry for the spin half quantum field. Among the numerous complete set of spinors that are available to a physicist, Elko occupies a unique status that allows it to enter as expansion coefficients of a quantum field without violating Weinberg's no go theorem. How this paradigm changing claim arises is the primary subject of this communication. Weinberg's no go theorem is evaded by exploiting a uniquely special feature of Elko that allows us to introduce a doubling of the particle-antiparticle degrees of freedom from four to eight. Weinberg had dismissed this degeneracy on the ground that, "no examples are known of particles that furnish unconventional representations of inversions." Here we will find that this degeneracy, once envisioned by Eugene Wigner, in fact gives rise to a quantum field that has all the theoretical properties required of dark matter.

Namely, the generalized Stueckelberg electrodynamics. In the first instance, we work on the free case to gain some familiarity with the program and, subsequently, we add the interaction with fermionic matter fields to complete our aim. In addition to deriving the correct classical brackets for such a model, we get the full expression for the associated generating functional and its associated integration measure.

This paper is focused on investigating the effects of a statistical interaction for graphene-like systems, providing Haldane-like properties for topologically trivial lattices. The associated self-energy correction yields an effective next-nearest hop**, inducing the topological phase, whose specific solutions are scrutinized. In the case of an external magnetic field, it leads to a renormalized quasi-particle structure with generalized Landau levels and explicit valley asymmetry. A suitable tool for implementing such achievements is a judicious indefinite metric quantization, leading to advances in field theory foundations. Since the topological behavior is encoded in the radiative corrections, an unequivocal treatment using an integral representation is carefully developed.

We present a scalar-tensor theory of gravity on a torsion-free and metric compatible Lyra manifold. This is obtained by generalizing the concept of physical reference frame by considering a scale function defined over the manifold. The choice of a specific frame induces a local base, naturally non-holonomic, whose structure constants give rise to extra terms in the expression of the connection coefficients and in the expression for the covariant derivative. In the Lyra manifold, transformations between reference frames involving both coordinates and scale change the transformation law of tensor fields, when compared to those of the Riemann manifold. From a direct generalization of the Einstein-Hilbert minimal action coupled with a matter term, it was possible to build a Lyra invariant action, which gives rise to the associated Lyra Scalar-Tensor theory of gravity (LyST), with field equations for $g_{μν}$ and $φ$. These equations have a well-defined Newtonian limit, from which it can be seen that both metric and scale play a role in the description gravitational interaction. We present a spherically symmetric solution for the LyST gravity field equations. It dependent on two parameters $m$ and $r_{L}$, whose physical meaning is carefully investigated. We highlight the properties of LyST spherically symmetric line element and compare it to Schwarzchild solution.

Practical calculations in light-front dynamics are, as a general rule, complicated, since there is no consensus about how to treat the poles which come from the instantaneous parts of Feynman's propagators of the fields. An alternative to solve this difficulty is null-plane causal perturbation theory, a recent developed framework which prevents the appearance of the mentioned poles by avoiding the usage of Feynman's propagators in "loop distributions", requiring no regularization of the amplitudes. In this study, we treat the radiative corrections in the neutral Yukawa's model in that framework. Particularly, we explicitly calculate the boson and fermion self-energies and show that the results obtained with this approach are equivalent to that of the instant dynamics.

We introduce generalized Stueckelberg and Higgs gauge theories and present the classical and quantum frameworks related to them. We construct the quantum theory by writing the transition amplitude in the Fadeev-Senjanovic formalism and put it in a covariant form by the Fadeev-Popov method. We also analyze the independence of the transition amplitude by gauge parameters via BRS-T symmetry. Even in the generalized context, the Stueckelberg structure influences the quantization process of the Higgs theory in the 't Hooft's fashion, in which an intimate relationship between the Stueckelberg compensating field and the Goldstone boson arises.

For this purpose, the Kugo-Ojima-Nakanishi formalism, based on an indefinite metric Hilbert space in the Heisenberg picture, is used. We show that it is possible to extract a massive physical excitation constructed from a linear combination of the vector field $A_μ$ and the $B$-field. In turn, we also show that this excitation generates the Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory. This is achieved by exploring the two-point function of the vector field.

This work explores the quantum dynamics of the interaction between scalar (matter) and vectorial (intermediate) particles and studies their thermodynamic equilibrium in the grand-canonical ensemble. The aim of the article is to clarify the connection between the physical degrees of freedom of a theory in both the quantization process and the description of the thermodynamic equilibrium, in which we see an intimate connection between physical degrees of freedom, Gibbs free energy and the equipartition theorem. We have split the work into two sections. First, we analyze the quantum interaction in the context of the generalized scalar Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau quantum electrodynamics (GSDKP) by using the functional formalism. We build the Hamiltonian structure following the Dirac methodology, apply the Faddeev-Senjanovic procedure to obtain the transition amplitude in the generalized Coulomb gauge and, finally, use the Faddeev-Popov-DeWitt method to write the amplitude in covariant form in the no-mixing gauge. Subsequently, we exclusively use the Matsubara-Fradkin (MF) formalism in order to describe fields in thermodynamical equilibrium. The corresponding equations in thermodynamic equilibrium for the scalar, vectorial and ghost sectors are explicitly constructed from which the extraction of the partition function is straightforward. It is in the construction of the vectorial sector that the emergence and importance of the ghost fields are revealed: they eliminate the extra non-physical degrees of freedom of the vectorial sector thus maintaining the physical degrees of freedom.

Bopp-Podolsky electrodynamics is generalized to curved space-times. The equations of motion are written for the case of static spherically symmetric black holes and their exterior solutions are analyzed using Bekenstein's method. It is shown the solutions split-up into two parts, namely a non-homogeneous (asymptotically massless) regime and a homogeneous (asymptotically massive) sector which is null outside the event horizon. In addition, in the simplest approach to Bopp-Podolsky black holes, the non-homogeneous solutions are found to be Maxwell's solutions leading to a Reissner-Nordström black hole. It is also demonstrated that the only exterior solution consistent with the weak and null energy conditions is the Maxwell's one. Thus, in light of energy conditions, it is concluded that only Maxwell modes propagate outside the horizon and, therefore, the no-hair theorem is satisfied in the case of Bopp-Podolsky fields in spherically symmetric space-times.

In the most of reliable models, the form and structure of the interactions generate differential equations which are, in the most of cases, almost impossible to solve exactly. In this paper, using the Schwinger Quantum Action Principle, we found the time transformation function that solves exactly the harmonic oscillator interacting with a set of other harmonic coupled oscillators. In order to do it, we have introduced a new special set of creation and annihilation operators which leads directly to the \emph{dressed states} associated to the system, which are the real quantum states of the interacting \emph{\textquotedblleft field-particle\textquotedblright} system. To obtain the closed solution, it is introduced in the same foot a set of \emph{normal mode} creation and annihilation operators of the system related to the first ones by an orthogonal transformation. We find the eigenstates, amplitude transitions and the system spectra without any approximation. At last, we show that the Schwinger Variational Principle provides the solutions in a free representation way.

In this article we study some classical aspects of Podolsky Electrodynamics in the static regime. We develop the multipole expansion for the theory in both the electrostatic and the magnetostatic cases. We also address the problem of consistently truncating the infinite series associated with the several kinds of multipoles, yielding approximations for the static Podolskian electromagnetic field to any degree of precision required. Moreover, we apply the general theory of multipole expansion to some specific physical problems. In those problems we identify the first terms of the series with the monopole, dipole and quadrupole terms in the generalized theory. We also propose a situation in which Podolsky theory can be experimentally tested.

The main goal of this work is to study systematically the quantum aspects of the interaction between scalar particles in the framework of Generalized Scalar Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau Electrodynamics (GSDKP). For this purpose the theory is quantized after a constraint analysis following Dirac's methodology by determining the Hamiltonian transition amplitude. In particular, the covariant transition amplitude is established in the generalized non-mixing Lorenz gauge. The complete Green's functions are obtained through functional methods and the theory's renormalizability is also detailed presented. Next, the radiative corrections for the Green's functions at $α$-order are computed; and, as it turns out, an unexpected $m_{P}$-dependent divergence on the DKP sector of the theory is found. Furthermore, in order to show the effectiveness of the renormalization procedure on the present theory, a diagrammatic discussion on the photon self-energy and vertex part at $α^{2}$-order are presented, where it is possible to observe contributions from the DKP self-energy function, and then analyse whether or not this novel divergence propagates to higher-order contributions. Lastly, an energy range where the theory is well defined: $m^{2}\ll k^{2}<m_{p}^{2}$ was also found by evaluating the effective coupling for the GSDKP.

In this paper we study the generalized electrodynamics contribution for the electron-positron scattering process, $e^{-}e^{+}\rightarrow e^{-}e^{+}$, the Bhabha scattering. Within the framework of the standard model, for energies larger when compared to the electron mass, we calculate the cross section expression for the scattering process. This quantity is usually calculated in the framework of the Maxwell electrodynamics and, by phenomenological reasons, corrected by a cut-off parameter. On the other hand, by considering the generalized electrodynamics instead of Maxwell's, we can show that the effects played by the Podolsky mass is actually a natural cut-off parameter for this scattering process. Furthermore, by means of experimental data of Bhabha scattering we will estimate its lower bound value. Nevertheless, in order to have a mathematically well defined description of our study we shall present our discussion in the framework of the Epstein-Glaser causal theory.

The method shows to be rather economical in relation to the Dirac's one, obviating thus unnecessary classification and calculations. In this work we show how to construct the one-loop vacuum polarization for light-front QED$_{4}$ in the framework of the perturbative causal theory. Usually, in the canonical approach, it is considered for the fermionic propagator the so-called instantaneous term, but it is known in literature that this term is controversial because it can be omitted by computational reasons; for instance, by compensation or vanishing by dimensional regularization. In this work we propose a solution to this paradox. First, in the perturbative causal theory, it is shown that the fermionic propagator does not have instantaneous terms, and with this propagator we calculate the one-loop vacuum polarization, from the calculation it follows the same result as obtained by the standard approach, but without reclaiming any extra assumptions. Moreover, since the perturbative causal theory is defined in the distributional framework, we can also show the reason behind we obtaining the same result whether we consider or not the instantaneous fermionic propagator term.

In this work we present the study of light-front field theories in the realm of axiomatic theory. It is known that when one uses the light-cone gauge pathological poles $(k^{+}) ^{-n}$ arises, demanding a prescription to be employed in order to tame these ill-defined poles and to have correct Feynman integrals due to the lack of Wick rotation in such theories. In order to shed a new light on this long standing problem we present here a discussion based on the use rigorous mathematical machinery of distributions combined with physical concepts, such as causality, to show how to deal with these singular propagators in a general fashion without making use of any prescription. The first step of our development will consist in showing how analytic representation for propagators arises by requiring general physical properties in the framework of Wightman's formalism. From that we shall determine the equal-time (anti)commutation relations in the light-front form for the scalar, fermionic fields and for the dynamical components of the electromagnetic field. In conclusion, we introduce the Epstein-Glaser causal method in order to have a mathematical rigorous treatment of the free propagators of the theory, allowing us to discuss the general treatment for propagators of the type $(k^{+}) ^{-n}$. Moreover, we show that at given conditions our results reproduce known prescriptions in the literature.

Noncommutative (NC) quantum field theory is the subject of many analyses on formal and general aspects looking for deviations and, therefore, potential noncommutative spacetime effects. Within of this large class, we may now pay some attention to the quantization of NC field theory on lower dimensions and look closely at the issue of dynamical mass generation to the gauge field. This work encompasses the quantization of the two-dimensional massive quantum electrodynamics and three-dimensional topologically massive quantum electrodynamics. We begin by addressing the problem on a general dimensionality making use of the perturbative Seiberg-Witten map to, thus, construct a general action, to only then specify the problem to two and three dimensions. The quantization takes place through the Källén-Lehmann spectral representation and Yang-Feldman-Källén formulation, where we calculate the respective spectral density function to the gauge field. Furthermore, regarding the photon two-point function, we discuss how its infrared behavior is related to the term generated by quantum corrections in two dimensions, and, moreover, in three dimensions, we study the issue of nontrivial θ-dependent corrections to the dynamical mass generation.

This work comprises a study upon the quantization and the renormalizability of the generalized electrodynamics of spinless charged particles (mesons), namely, the Generalized Scalar Electrodynamics ($GSQED_{4}$). The theory is quantized in the covariant framework of the Batalin-Fradkin-Vilkovisky method. Thereafter, the complete Green's functions are obtained through functional methods and a proper discussion on the theory's renormalizability is also given. Next, it is presented the computation and further discussion on the radiative correction at $α$-order; and, as it turns out, an unexpected $m_{P}$-dependent divergence on the mesonic sector of the theory is found. Furthermore, in order to show the effectiveness of the renormalization procedure on the present theory it is also shown a diagrammatic discussion on the photon self-energy at $α^{2}$-order, where is observed contributions from the meson self-energy function. Afterwards, we present the expressions of the counter-terms and effective coupling of the theory. Obtaining from the later a energy range where the theory is defined $m^{2} \leq k^{2} < m_{P}^{2}$. It is also shown in our final discussion that the new divergence is absorbed suitably by the mass counter-term $δ_{Z_{0}}$, showing therefore that the gauge WFT identities are satisfied still.

The full Dicke model describes a system of $N$ identical two level-atoms coupled to a single-mode quantized bosonic field. The model considers rotating and counter-rotating coupling terms between the atoms and the bosonic field, with coupling constants $g_1$ and $g_2$, for each one of the coupling terms, respectively. We study finite temperature properties of the model using the path integral approach and functional methods. In the thermodynamic limit, $N\rightarrow\infty$, the system exhibits phase transition from normal to superradiant phase, at some critical values of temperature and coupling constants. We distinguish between three particular cases, the first one corresponds to the case of rotating wave approximation, which $g_1\neq 0$ and $g_2=0$, the second one corresponds to the case of $g_1=0$ and $g_2\neq 0$, in these two cases the model has a continuous symmetry. The last one, corresponds to the case of $g_1\neq 0$ and $g_2\neq 0$, which the model has a discrete symmetry. The phase transition in each case is related to the spontaneous breaking of its respective symmetry. For each one of these three particular cases, we find the asymptotic behaviour of the partition function in the thermodynamic limit, and the collective spectrum of the system in the normal and the superradiat phase. For the case of rotating wave approximation, and also the case of $g_1=0$ and $g_2\neq 0$, in the superradiant phase, the collective spectrum has a zero energy value, corresponding to the Goldstone mode associated to the continuous symmetry breaking of the model. Our analyse and results are valid in the limit of zero temperature, $β\rightarrow\infty$, in which, the model exhibits a quantum phase transition.
