Lax-type pairs in the theory of bivariate orthogonal polynomials
Abstract: Sequences of bivariate orthogonal polynomials written as vector polynomials of increasing size satisfy a couple of three term relations with matrix coefficients. In this work, introducing a time-dependent parameter, we analyse a Lax-type pair system for the coefficients of the three term relations. We also deduce several characterizations relating the Lax-type pair, the shape of the weight, Stielt… ▽ More

Asymptotic behaviour of the Christoffel functions on the Unit Ball in the presence of a Mass on the Sphere
Abstract: We present a family of mutually orthogonal polynomials on the unit ball with respect to an inner product which includes a mass uniformly distributed on the sphere. First, connection formulas relating these multivariate orthogonal polynomials and the classical ball polynomials are obtained. Then, using the representation formula for these polynomials in terms of spherical harmonics analytic propert… ▽ More

Three term relations for a class of bivariate orthogonal polynomials
Abstract: We study matrix three term relations for orthogonal polynomials in two variables constructed from orthogonal polynomials in one variable. Using the three term recurrence relation for the involved univariate orthogonal polynomials, the explicit expression for the matrix coefficients in these three term relations are deduced. These matrices are diagonal or tridiagonal with entries computable from th… ▽ More

Multivariate Orthogonal Polynomials and Modified Moment Functionals
Abstract: Multivariate orthogonal polynomials can be introduced by using a moment functional defined on the linear space of polynomials in several variables with real coefficients. We study the so-called Uvarov and Christoffel modifications obtained by adding to the moment functional a finite set of mass points, or by multiplying it times a polynomial of total degree 2, respectively. Orthogonal polynomials… ▽ More

Sobolev orthogonal polynomials on the unit ball via outward normal derivatives
Abstract: We analyse a family of mutually orthogonal polynomials on the unit ball with respect to an inner product which involves the outward normal derivatives on the sphere. Using their representation in terms of spherical harmonics, algebraic and analytic properties will be deduced. First, we deduce explicit connection formulas relating classical multivariate ball polynomials and our family of Sobolev or… ▽ More

Orthogonal Polynomials on the Unit Ball and Fourth-Order Partial Differential Equations
Abstract: The purpose of this work is to analyse a family of mutually orthogonal polynomials on the unit ball with respect to an inner product which includes an additional term on the sphere. First, we will get connection formulas relating classical multivariate orthogonal polynomials on the ball with our family of orthogonal polynomials. Then, using the representation of these polynomials in terms of spher… ▽ More

Matrix Pearson equations satisfied by Koornwinder weights in two variables
Abstract: We consider Koornwinder's method for constructing orthogonal polynomials in two variables from orthogonal polynomials in one variable. If semiclassical orthogonal polynomials in one variable are used, then Koornwinder's construction generates semiclassical orthogonal polynomials in two variables. We consider two methods for deducing matrix Pearson equations for weight functions associated with the… ▽ More

Sobolev orthogonal polynomials on product domains
Abstract: Orthogonal polynomials on the product domain $[a_1,b_1] \times [a_2,b_2]$ with respect to the inner product $$ \langle f,g \rangle_S = \int_{a_1}^{b_1} \int_{a_2}^{b_2} \nabla f(x,y)\cdot \nabla g(x,y)\, w_1(x)w_2(y) \,dx\, dy + λf(c_1,c_2)g(c_1,c_2) $$ are constructed, where $w_i$ is a weight function on $[a_i,b_i]$ for $i = 1, 2$, $λ> 0$, and $(c_1, c_2)$ is a fixed point. Orthogonal polynomials in several variables for measures with mass points
Abstract: Let $dν$ be a measure in $\mathbb{R}^d$ obtained from adding a set of mass points to another measure $dμ$. Orthogonal polynomials in several variables associated with $dν$ can be explicitly expressed in terms of orthogonal polynomials associated with $dμ$, so are the reproducing kernels associated with these polynomials. The explicit formulas that are obtained are further specialized in the case… ▽ More

Krall--type Orthogonal Polynomials in several variables
Abstract: For a bilinear form obtained by adding a Dirac mass to a positive definite moment functional in several variables, explicit formulas of orthogonal polynomials are derived from the orthogonal polynomials associated with the moment functional. Explicit formula for the reproducing kernel is also derived and used to establish certain inequalities for classical orthogonal polynomials.

A generating function for non-standard orthogonal polynomials involving differences: the Meixner case
Abstract: In this paper we deal with a family of non--standard polynomials orthogonal with respect to an inner product involving differences. This type of inner product is the so--called $Δ$--Sobolev inner product. Concretely, we consider the case in which both measures appearing in the inner product correspond to the Pascal distribution (the orthogonal polynomials associated to this distribution are know… ▽ More

A semiclassical perspective on multivariate orthogonal polynomials
Abstract: Differential properties for orthogonal polynomials in several variables are studied. We consider multivariate orthogonal polynomials whose gradients satisfy some quasi--orthogonality conditions. We obtain several characterizations for these polynomials including the analogous of the semiclassical Pearson differential equation, the structure relation and a differential--difference equation.
