Superoutbursts in WZ Sge-type dwarf novae (DNe) are characterized by both early superhumps and ordinary superhumps originating from the 2:1 and 3:1 resonances, respectively. However, some WZ Sge-type DNe show a superoutburst lacking early superhumps; it is not well established how these differ from superoutbursts with an early superhump phase. We report time-resolved photometric observations of the WZ Sge-type DN V627 Peg during its 2021 superoutburst. The detection of ordinary superhumps before the superoutburst peak highlights that this 2021 superoutburst of V627 Peg, like that {in} 2014, did not feature an early superhump phase. The duration of stage B superhumps was slightly longer in the 2010 superoutburst accompanying early superhumps than that in the 2014 and 2021 superoutbursts which lacked early superhumps. This result suggests that an accretion disk experiencing the 2:1 resonance may have a larger mass at the inner part of the disk and hence take more time for the inner disk to become eccentric. The presence of a precursor outburst in the 2021 superoutburst suggests that the maximum disk radius should be smaller than that of the 2014 superoutburst, even though the duration of quiescence was longer than that before the 2021 superoutburst. This could be accomplished if the 2021 superoutburst was triggered as an inside-out outburst or if the mass transfer rate in quiescence changes by a factor of two, suggesting that the outburst mechanism and quiescence state of WZ Sge-type DNe may have more variety than ever thought.

The exchange part of energy density of the linear Dirac--Hartree--Fock (DHF) model in symmetric nuclear matter is evaluated in a parameter--free closed form and expressed as density functional. After the rearranging terms the relativistic mean-field approach with density-dependent couplings may be recovered with density dependence coming from the Fock exchange. The formalism developed, is then extended to the nonlinear DHF approximation with field self-couplings allowed. The nonlinear self--interactions result in essential density dependence (medium modification) of effective couplings that are decoupled from the Fock ones.

We confirm the strong negative superhump variations in the intermediate polar RX J2133.7+5107 and improved a characteristic time of white dwarf spin-up in this system. We have investigated the periodic modulation of the spin phases with the orbital phase in MU Camelopardalis. We can propose simple explanation as the influence of orbital sidebands in the periodic signal produced by intermediate polar.

Magnetic cataclysmic variables are close binaries which consist of a compact object - a white dwarf - and a red dwarf filling its Roche Lobe. Such systems are physical laboratories which enable study of the influence of magnetic fields on matter flows. They often exhibit spin-up or spin-down of the white dwarf, while some systems exhibit more complex behaviour of the spin period change. We monitor changes of the spin periods of white dwarfs in a sample of close binary systems to study interaction of the magnetic field and accretion processes as well as evolution of intermediate polars. Within the framework of our intermediate polar monitoring program, we obtained photometric CCD observations at several observatories. Two-period trigonometric polynomial fitting was used for determination of extrema timings. The (O-C) analysis was performed to study the variability of the orbital and spin periods of the systems. Using data taken during 9 years of observations of the magnetic cataclysmic variable V2306 Cygni (formerly known as 1WGA J1958.2+3232), we detected the spin period variability which shows a spin-up of the white dwarf with a characteristic time of $(53\pm5)\cdot10^4$ years. The value of the spin period was $733.33976$ seconds with the formal accuracy of $0.00015$ seconds. We derived an improved value of the orbital period of the system to be $4.371523\pm0.000009$ hours.

Spontaneous breaking of continuous symmetries of a nuclear many-body system results in appearance of zero-energy restoration modes. Such modes introduce a non-physical contributions to the physical excitations called spurious Nambu-Goldstone modes. Since they represent a special case of collective motion, they are sources of important information about the Thouless-Valatin inertia. The main purpose of this work is to study the Thouless-Valatin rotational moment of inertia as extracted from the Nambu-Goldstone restoration mode that results from the zero-frequency response to the total angular momentum operator. We examine the role and effects of the pairing correlations on the rotational characteristics of heavy deformed nuclei in order to extend our understanding of superfluidity in general. We use the finite amplitude method of the quasiparticle random phase approximation on top of the Skyrme energy density functional framework with the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory. We have successfully extended this formalism and established a practical method for extracting the Thouless-Valatin rotational moment of inertia from the strength function calculated in the symmetry restoration regime. Our results reveal the relation between the pairing correlations and the moment of inertia of axially deformed nuclei of rare-earth and actinide regions of the nuclear chart. We have also demonstrated the feasibility of the method for obtaining the moment of inertia for collective Hamiltonian models. We conclude that from the numerical and theoretical perspective, the finite amplitude method can be widely used to effectively study rotational properties of deformed nuclei within modern density functional approaches.

The types of instability in the interacting binary stars are reviewed. The project "Inter-Longitude Astronomy" is a series of smaller projects on concrete stars or groups of stars. It has no special funds, and is supported from resources and grants of participating organizations, when informal working groups are created. Totally we studied 1900+ variable stars of different types. The characteristic timescale is from seconds to decades and (extrapolating) even more. The monitoring of the first star of our sample AM Her was initiated by Prof. V.P. Tsesevich (1907-1983). Since more than 358 ADS papers were published. Some highlights of our photometric and photo-polarimetric monitoring and mathematical modelling of interacting binary stars of different types are presented: classical, asynchronous, intermediate polars and magnetic dwarf novae (DO Dra) with 25 timescales corresponding to different physical mechanisms and their combinations (part "Polar"); negative and positive superhumpers in nova-like and many dwarf novae stars ("Superhumper"); eclipsing "non-magnetic" cataclysmic variables; symbiotic systems ("Symbiosis"); super-soft sources (SSS, QR And); spotted (and not spotted) eclipsing variables with (and without) evidence for a current mass transfer ("Eclipser") with a special emphasis on systems with a direct impact of the stream into the gainer star's atmosphere, or V361 Lyr-type stars. Other parts of the ILA project are "Stellar Bell" (interesting pulsating variables of different types and periods - M, SR, RV Tau, RR Lyr, Delta Sct) and "Novice"(="New Variable") discoveries and classification with a subsequent monitoring for searching and studying possible multiple components of variability. Special mathematical methods have been developed to create a set of complementary software for statistically optimal modelling of variable stars of different types.

A new technique of elucidating $β$-decay schemes of isotopes with large density of states at low excitation energies has been developed, in which a Broad Energy Germanium (BEGe) detector is used in conjunction with coaxial hyper-pure germanium detectors. The power of this technique has been demonstrated on the example of 183Hg decay. Mass-separated samples of 183Hg were produced by a deposition of the low-energy radioactive-ion beam delivered by the ISOLDE facility at CERN. The excellent energy resolution of the BEGe detector allowed $γ$ rays energies to be determined with a precision of a few tens of electronvolts, which was sufficient for the analysis of the Rydberg-Ritz combinations in the level scheme. The timestamped structure of the data was used for unambiguous separation of $γ$ rays arising from the decay of 183Hg from those due to the daughter decays.

Variability of the spin period of the white dwarf in the V405 Aur (RX J0558.0+5353) system using our observations and previously published maxima timings is analyzed. As the phase light curve contains two nearly equal photometric waves, one maximum was set as a "primary" one. The ephemeris for the maxima of the "spin variability" (due to rotation of the magnetized white dwarf) for recent seasons 2010-2012 is Tmax = HJD 2455882.470614(25)+0.00631314602(46)E. This corresponds to a significant negative trend at the "O-C" diagram. Due to significant gaps in the observational data and statistical error of timings, there may be some suggestions on the spin period variability - a fast period "jump" in 2007y; secular period variations; a cubic ephemeris (which may be interpreted by a precession of the magnetic white dwarf at a time-scale of decades) or a periodic change with a period of 6.2 years and semi-amplitude of 17.2\pm1.8 sec. For the present observations, more reliable are two latter models. To distinguish between them, a continuation of monitoring is needed. The periodic variations may be interpreted by a light time effect caused by a third body of mass (M3 > 0.09M\odot), which corresponds to a low-mass star, but not to an extra-solar planet. In this case, the system belongs to a rare class of cataclysmic variables with a third body.

We analysed variability of the spin period of the white dwarf in the V405 Aur (RX J0558.0+5353) system using our observations and previously published maxima timings. The spin period of the system in 2010-2012 is $P=545.4558163(94)$s. As we have gaps in observational data, we present 2 hypotheses of the spin period variability of this system - a cubic ephemeris which may be interpreted by a precession of the magnetic white dwarf or a periodic change with a period of 6.2 years and semi-amplitude of $17.2\pm1.8$ sec. The periodic variations may be interpreted by a light-time effect caused by a low-mass star ($M_3\ge0.09M_\odot$). In this case, the system belongs to a rare class of cataclysmic variables with a third body.
