We study for a dynamical system $f:X\longrightarrow X$ some of the principal topological recurrence-kind properties with respect to the induced maps $\overline{f}:\mathcal{K}(X)\longrightarrow\mathcal{K}(X)$, on the hyperspace of non-empty compact subsets of $X$, and $\hat{f}:\mathcal{F}(X)\longrightarrow\mathcal{F}(X)$, on the space of normal fuzzy sets consisting of the upper-semicontinuous functions $u:X\longrightarrow [0,1]$ with compact support and such that $u^{-1}(\{1\})\neq\varnothing$. In particular, we characterize the properties of topological and multiple recurrence for the extended systems $(\mathcal{K}(X),\overline{f})$ and $(\mathcal{F}(X),\hat{f})$. Special attention is given to the case where the underlying space is completely metrizable, for which we obtain some stronger point-recurrence equivalences.

Poisson point processes provide a versatile framework for modeling the distributions of random points in space. When the space is partitioned into cells, each associated with a single generating point from the Poisson process, there appears a geometric structure known as Poisson Voronoi tessellation. These tessellations find applications in various fields such as biology, material science, and communications, where the statistical properties of the Voronoi cells reveal patterns and structures that hold key insights into the underlying processes generating the observed phenomena.
In this paper, we investigate a distance measure of Poisson Voronoi tessellations that is emerging in the literature, yet for which its statistical and geometrical properties remain explored only in the asymptotic case when the density of seed points approaches infinity. Our work, specifically focused on homogeneous Poisson point processes, characterizes the cumulative distribution functions governing the smallest and largest distances between the points generating the Voronoi regions and their respective vertices for an arbitrary density of points in $\mathbb{R}^2$. For that, we conduct a Monte-Carlo type simulation with $10^8$ Voronoi cells and fit the resulting empirical cumulative distribution functions to the Generalized Gamma, Gamma, Log-normal, Rayleigh, and Weibull distributions. Our analysis compares these fits in terms of root mean-squared error and maximum absolute variation, revealing the Generalized Gamma distribution as the best-fit model for characterizing these distances in homogeneous Poisson Voronoi tessellations. Furthermore, we provide estimates for the maximum likelihood and the $95$\% confidence interval of the parameters of the Generalized Gamma distribution along with the algorithm implemented to calculate the maximum and minimum distances.

We introduce and study the notions of (generalized) hyperbolicity, topological stability and (uniform) topological expansivity for operators on locally convex spaces. We prove that every generalized hyperbolic operator on a locally convex space has the finite shadowing property. Contrary to what happens in the Banach space setting, hyperbolic operators on Fréchet spaces may fail to have the shadowing property, but we find additional conditions that ensure the validity of the shadowing property. Assuming that the space is sequentially complete, we prove that generalized hyperbolicity implies the strict periodic shadowing property, but we also show that the hypothesis of sequential completeness is essential. We show that operators with the periodic shadowing property on topological vector spaces have other interesting dynamical behaviors, including the fact that the restriction of such an operator to its chain recurrent set is topologically mixing and Devaney chaotic. We prove that topologically stable operators on locally convex spaces have the finite shadowing property and the strict periodic shadowing property. As a consequence, topologically stable operators on Banach spaces have the shadowing property. Moreover, we prove that generalized hyperbolicity implies topological stability for operators on Banach spaces. We prove that uniformly topologically expansive operators on locally convex spaces are neither Li-Yorke chaotic nor topologically transitive. Finally, we characterize the notion of topological expansivity for weighted shifts on Fréchet sequence spaces. Several examples are provided.

Edge intelligence is an emerging technology where the base stations located at the edge of the network are equipped with computing units that provide machine learning services to the end users. To provide high-quality services in a cost-efficient way, the wireless and computing resources need to be dimensioned carefully. In this paper, we address the problem of resource dimensioning in a single-cell system that supports edge video analytics under latency and accuracy constraints. We show that the resource-dimensioning problem can be transformed into a convex optimization problem, and we provide numerical results that give insights into the trade-offs between the wireless and computing resources for varying cell sizes and for varying intensity of incoming tasks. Overall, we observe that the wireless and computing resources exhibit opposite trends; the wireless resources favor from smaller cells, where high attenuation losses are avoided, and the computing resources favor from larger cells, where statistical multiplexing allows for computing more tasks. We also show that small cells with low loads have high per-request costs, even when the wireless resources are increased to compensate for the low multiplexing gain at the servers.

In the present work we study the concepts of shadowing and chain recurrence in the setting of linear dynamics. We prove that shadowing and finite shadowing always coincide for operators on Banach spaces, but we exhibit operators on the Fréchet space $H(\mathbb{C})$ of entire functions that have the finite shadowing property but do not have the shadowing property. We establish a characterization of mixing for continuous maps with the finite shadowing property in the setting of uniform spaces, which implies that chain recurrence and mixing coincide for operators with the finite shadowing property on any topological vector space. We establish a characterization of dense distributional chaos for operators with the finite shadowing property on Fréchet spaces. As a consequence, we prove that if a Devaney chaotic (resp. a chain recurrent) operator on a Fréchet space (resp. on a Banach space) has the finite shadowing property, then it is densely distributionally chaotic. We obtain complete characterizations of chain recurrence for weighted shifts on Fréchet sequence spaces. We prove that generalized hyperbolicity implies periodic shadowing for operators on Banach spaces. Moreover, the concepts of shadowing and periodic shadowing coincide for unilateral weighted backward shifts, but these notions do not coincide in general, even for bilateral weighted shifts.

The workshop was themed around six particular topics, which were felt to capture key questions, opportunities and challenges. Each topic arranged a plenary session introduction, often with speakers summarising the state-of-the art and the next steps for analysis. This was then followed by parallel sessions, which were much more discussion focused, and where attendees could grapple with the challenges and propose solutions that could be tried. Where there was significant overlap between topics, a joint discussion between them was arranged.
In the weeks following the workshop the session conveners wrote this document, which is a summary of the main discussions, the key points raised and the conclusions and outcomes. The document was circulated amongst the participants for comments before being finalised here.

Federated Edge Learning (FEEL) is a distributed machine learning technique where each device contributes to training a global inference model by independently performing local computations with their data. More recently, FEEL has been merged with over-the-air computation (OAC), where the global model is calculated over the air by leveraging the superposition of analog signals. However, when implementing FEEL with OAC, there is the challenge on how to precode the analog signals to overcome any time misalignment at the receiver. In this work, we propose a novel synchronization-free method to recover the parameters of the global model over the air without requiring any prior information about the time misalignments. For that, we construct a convex optimization based on the norm minimization problem to directly recover the global model by solving a convex semi-definite program. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated in terms of accuracy and convergence via numerical experiments. We show that our proposed algorithm is close to the ideal synchronized scenario by $10\%$, and performs $4\times$ better than the simple case where no recovering method is used.

We obtain, in particular, Ansari- and Léon-Müller-type theorems for $\mathcal{F}$-recurrence under very weak assumptions on the Furstenberg family $\mathcal{F}$. This condition is applied to some particular examples, namely, a composition operator on the space of real analytic functions on $]0,1[$, which solves two problems of Bonet and Domański \cite{bd12}, and the "snake shift" constructed in \cite{bfpw} on direct sums of sequence spaces. The two examples have in common that they do not admit a densely embedded F-space $Y$ for which the operator restricted to $Y$ is continuous and hypercyclic, i.e., the hypercyclicity of these operators cannot be a consequence of the comparison principle with hypercyclic operators on F-spaces.

We investigate the notion of mean Li-Yorke chaos for operators on Banach spaces. We show that it differs from the notion of distributional chaos of type 2, contrary to what happens in the context of topological dynamics on compact metric spaces. We prove that an operator is mean Li-Yorke chaotic if and only if it has an absolutely mean irregular vector. As a consequence, absolutely Cesàro bounded operators are never mean Li-Yorke chaotic. Dense mean Li-Yorke chaos is shown to be equivalent to the existence of a dense (or residual) set of absolutely mean irregular vectors. As a consequence, every mean Li-Yorke chaotic operator is densely mean Li-Yorke chaotic on some infinite-dimensional closed invariant subspace. A (Dense) Mean Li-Yorke Chaos Criterion and a sufficient condition for the existence of a dense absolutely mean irregular manifold are also obtained. Moreover, we construct an example of an invertible hypercyclic operator $T$ such that every nonzero vector is absolutely mean irregular for both $T$ and $T^{-1}$. Several other examples are also presented. Finally, mean Li-Yorke chaos is also investigated for $C_0$-semigroups of operators on Banach spaces.

Neural machine translation systems require large amounts of training data and resources. Even with this, the quality of the translations may be insufficient for some users or domains. In such cases, the output of the system must be revised by a human agent. This can be done in a post-editing stage or following an interactive machine translation protocol.
We explore the incremental update of neural machine translation systems during the post-editing or interactive translation processes. Such modifications aim to incorporate the new knowledge, from the edited sentences, into the translation system. Updates to the model are performed on-the-fly, as sentences are corrected, via online learning techniques. In addition, we implement a novel interactive, adaptive system, able to react to single-character interactions. This system greatly reduces the human effort required for obtaining high-quality translations.
In order to stress our proposals, we conduct exhaustive experiments varying the amount and type of data available for training. Results show that online learning effectively achieves the objective of reducing the human effort required during the post-editing or the interactive machine translation stages. Moreover, these adaptive systems also perform well in scenarios with scarce resources. We show that a neural machine translation system can be rapidly adapted to a specific domain, exclusively by means of online learning techniques.

In planning for the HL-LHC in particular, it is critical that all of the collaborating stakeholders agree on the software goals and priorities, and that the efforts complement each other. In this spirit, this white paper describes the R&D activities required to prepare for this software upgrade.

We study several notions of boundedness for operators. It is known that any power bounded operator is absolutely Cesàro bounded and strong Kreiss bounded (in particular, uniformly Kreiss bounded). The converses do not hold in general. In this note, we give examples of topologically mixing absolutely Cesàro bounded operators on $\ell^p(\mathbb{N})$, $1\le p < \infty$, which are not power bounded, and provide examples of uniformly Kreiss bounded operators which are not absolutely Cesàro bounded. These results complement very limited number of known examples (see \cite{Shi} and \cite{AS}). In \cite{AS} Aleman and Suciu ask if every uniformly Kreiss bounded operator $T$ on a Banach spaces satisfies that $\lim_n\| \frac{T^n}{n}\|=0$. We solve this question for Hilbert space operators and, moreover, we prove that, if $T$ is absolutely Cesàro bounded on a Banach (Hilbert) space, then $\| T^n\|=o(n)$ ($\| T^n\|=o(n^{\frac{1}{2}})$, respectively). As a consequence, every absolutely Cesàro bounded operator on a reflexive Banach space is mean ergodic, and there exist mixing mean ergodic operators on $\ell^p(\mathbb{N})$, $1< p <\infty$. Finally, we give new examples of weakly ergodic 3-isometries and study numerically hypercyclic $m$-isometries on finite or infinite dimensional Hilbert spaces. In particular, all weakly ergodic strict 3-isometries on a Hilbert space are weakly numerically hypercyclic. Adjoints of unilateral forward weighted shifts which are strict $m$-isometries on $\ell ^2(\mathbb{N})$ are shown to be hypercyclic.

Egocentric vision consists in acquiring images along the day from a first person point-of-view using wearable cameras. The automatic analysis of this information allows to discover daily patterns for improving the quality of life of the user. A natural topic that arises in egocentric vision is storytelling, that is, how to understand and tell the story relying behind the pictures. In this paper, we tackle storytelling as an egocentric sequences description problem. We propose a novel methodology that exploits information from temporally neighboring events, matching precisely the nature of egocentric sequences. Furthermore, we present a new method for multimodal data fusion consisting on a multi-input attention recurrent network. We also publish the first dataset for egocentric image sequences description, consisting of 1,339 events with 3,991 descriptions, from 55 days acquired by 11 people. Furthermore, we prove that our proposal outperforms classical attentional encoder-decoder methods for video description.

Dynamical compactness with respect to a family as a new concept of chaoticity of a dynamical system was introduced and discussed in [22]. In this paper we continue to investigate this notion. In particular, we prove that all dynamical systems are dynamically compact with respect to a Furstenberg family if and only if this family has the finite intersection property. We investigate weak mixing and weak disjointness by using the concept of dynamical compactness. We also explore further difference between transitive compactness and weak mixing. As a byproduct, we show that the $ω_{\mathcal{F}}$-limit and the $ω$-limit sets of a point may have quite different topological structure. Moreover, the equivalence between multi-sensitivity, sensitive compactness and transitive sensitivity is established for a minimal system. Finally, these notions are also explored in the context of linear dynamics.

Furthermore, evidence for the $B^0\toμ^+μ^-$ decay is obtained with a statistical significance of three standard deviations. The branching fraction measurements are statistically compatible with SM predictions and impose stringent constraints on several theories beyond the SM.

Complex scientific workflows can process large amounts of data using thousands of tasks. The turnaround times of these workflows are often affected by various latencies such as the resource discovery, scheduling and data access latencies for the individual workflow processes or actors. Minimizing these latencies will improve the overall execution time of a workflow and thus lead to a more efficient and robust processing environment. In this paper, we propose a pilot job based infrastructure that has intelligent data reuse and job execution strategies to minimize the scheduling, queuing, execution and data access latencies. The results have shown that significant improvements in the overall turnaround time of a workflow can be achieved with this approach. The proposed approach has been evaluated, first using the CMS Tier0 data processing workflow, and then simulating the workflows to evaluate its effectiveness in a controlled environment.
