Abstract:
Specific heat, $C_B$, of a TbAl$_3$(BO$_3$)$_4$ crystal was studied for 50 mK $<T<$ 300 K, with emphasis on $T<1$ K, where a phase transition was found at $T_c =0.68$ K. Nuclear, non-phonon ($C_m$), and lattice contributions to $C_B$ were separated. Lowering of $T_c$ with ncrease of magnetic field parallel to the easy magnetization axis, $B_{||}$, was found. It was established that $C_m$ and a Grü…

It was established that $C_m$ and a Grüneisen ratio depend on $B_{||}$ and $T$ in a way characteristic of systems, in which a classical transition is driven by quantum fluctuations, QF, to a quantum critical point at $T=0$, by tuning a control parameter ($B_{||}$). The $B_{||} - T$ phase diagram was constructed and the dynamical critical exponent $0.82 \le z \le 0.96$ was assessed. Nature of the transition was not established explicitly. Magnetization studies point at the ferromagnetic ordering of Tb$^{3+}$ magnetic moments, however, lowering of $T_c$ with increase in $B_{||}$ is opposite to the classical behavior. Hence, a dominant role of QF was supposed.

The observations have been carried out at the RT-22 radio telescope of the Pushchino Radio Astronomy Observatory (Russia) since June 2002 until March 2017. Three superflares have been detected, in 2002, 2010, and 2016, with peak flux densities of 3400, 19,000, and 46,000 Jy, respectively. The results of the analysis of the superflares are given. The flares took place during periods of high maser activity in a narrow interval of radial velocities (40.5-42.5 km/s) and could be associated with the passage of a strong shock wave. During our monitoring the emission of three groups of features at radial velocities of about 41, 42, and 43 km/s dominated. The flare of 2016 was accompanied by a considerable increase in the flux densities of several features in an interval of 35--56 km/s.

The active star-forming region W33B is a source of OH and H2O maser emission located in distinct zones around the central object. The aim was to obtain the complete Stokes pattern of polarised OH maser emission, to trace its variability and to investigate flares and long-term variability of the H2O maser and evolution of individual emission features. Observations in the OH lines at a wavelength of 18 cm were carried out on the Nançay radio telescope (France) at a number of epochs in 2008--2014; H2O line observations (long-term monitoring) at a wavelength of 1.35 cm were performed on the 22-metre radio telescope of the Pushchino Radio Astronomy Observatory (Russia) between 1981 and 2014. We have observed strong variability of the emission features in the main 1665- and 1667-MHz OH lines as well as in the 1612-MHz satellite line. Zeeman splitting has been detected in the 1665-MHz OH line at 62 km/s and in the 1667-MHz line at 62 and 64 km/s. The magnetic field intensity was estimated to be from 2 to 3 mG. The H2O emission features form filaments, chains with radial-velocity gradients, or more complicated structures including large-scale ones. Long-term observations of the hydroxyl maser in the W33B region have revealed narrowband polarised emission in the 1612-MHz line with a double-peak profile characteristic of Type IIb circumstellar masers. The 30-year monitoring of the water-vapour maser in W33B showed several strong flares of the H2O line. The observed radial-velocity drift of the H2O emission features suggests propagation of an excitation wave in the masering medium with a gradient of radial velocities. In OH and H2O masers some turbulent motions of material are inferred.

Multiple, strongly variable short-lived H2O emission features were detected in a broad interval of radial velocities, from -7 to 55 km/s. OH maser emission in the 1667-MHz line was discovered in a velocity range of 35-41 km/s. Stokes parameters of maser emission in the main OH lines 1665 and 1667 MHz were measured. Zeeman splitting was detected in the 1665-MHz line at 33.4 and 39.4 km/s and in the 1667 MHz line only at 39.4 km/s. The magnetic field intensity was estimated. A appreciable variability of Zeeman splitting components was observed at 39 and 39.8 km/s in both main lines. The extended spectrum and fast variability of the H2O maser emission together with the variability of the Zeeman splitting components in the main OH lines can be due to the composite clumpy structure of the molecular cloud and to the presence in it of large-scale rotation and bipolar outflow as well as of turbulent motions of material.

Abstract:
The magnetic field dependences of birefringence in a $NdFe_3(BO_3)_4$ single crystal have been measured in the case where the direction of light propagation coincides with the trigonal crystal axis $C_3$ ($k\|C_3$), and the external magnetic field is oriented along the second-order axis $C_2$ ($H\|C_2$). In the temperature range, in which an incommensurate phase exists with the formation of a long-period antiferromagnetic helix, the strongly pronounced jumps in the field dependence of birefringence are revealed and identified as a firstorder spin-orientation phase transition. The phase transition was accompanied by a hysteresis in the field dependences of birefringence. The $H-T$ phase diagram for a $NdFe_3(BO_3)_4$ single crystal has been plotted in the case where the magnetic field is oriented along the crystal axis $C_2$ ($H\|C_2$).

Results of monitoring the H$_2$O and OH masers in W44C, located near the cometary HII region G34.3+0.15, are reported. Observations in the water-vapor line at $λ= 1.35$ cm were carried out on the 22-meter radio telescope of the Pushchino Radio Astronomy Observatory (Russia) from November 1979 to March 2011, and in the hydroxyl lines at $λ= 18$ cm on the Large Nan{ç}ay radio telescope (France). Activity maxima and minima of the water maser alternated. The average period of the activity is $\sim 14$ years, consistent with results obtained earlier for a number of other sources associated with regions of active star formation. In periods of enhanced maser activity, two series of strong H$_2$O maser flares were observed, which were related to two different clusters of maser spots located at the front of a shock at the periphery of the ultracompact region UH II. These series of flares may be associated with cyclic activity of the protostellar object in UH II. In the remaining time intervals, there were mainly short-lived flares of single features. The Stokes parameters for the observations in the hydroxyl lines were determined. Zeeman splitting was observed in the profile of the 1667 MHz OH main line at a velocity of 58.5 km/s, and was used estimate the intensity of the line-of-sight component of the magnetic field (1.2 mG).
