We prove global Schauder estimates for kinetic Kolmogorov equations with coefficients that are Hölder continuous in the spatial variables but only measurable in time. Compared to other available results in the literature, our estimates are optimal in the sense that the inherent Hölder spaces are the strongest possible under the given assumptions: in particular, under a parabolic Hörmander condition, we introduce Hölder norms defined in terms of the intrinsic geometry that the operator induces on the space-time variables. The technique is based on the existence and the regularity estimates of the fundamental solution of the equation. These results are essential for studying backward Kolmogorov equations associated with kinetic-type diffusions, e.g. stochastic Langevin equation.

To this end, we will first discretize the SPDE in space only by utilizing finite difference methods and vectorize the resulting equation exploiting its sparsity. As a benchmark, we will apply it to the case of the stochastic Langevin equation with constant coefficients, where an explicit solution is available, and compare the Magnus scheme with the Euler-Maruyama scheme. We will see that the Magnus expansion is superior in terms of both accuracy and especially computational time by using a single GPU and verify it in a variable coefficient case. Notably, we will see speed-ups of order ranging form 20 to 200 compared to the Euler-Maruyama scheme, depending on the accuracy target and the spatial resolution.

This framework encompasses, as particular cases, stochastic Langevin systems of kinetic SDEs. The drift coefficient of the velocity component is allowed to be $α$-Hölder continuous without any restriction on the index $α$, which can be any positive number in $]0,1[$. As the deterministic counterparts of these differential systems are not well-posed, this result can be viewed as a phenomenon known as regularization by noise.

However, their development is complex, rendering even the basic experimental validation of the required advanced guidance and control (G & C) algorithms prohibitively time-consuming and costly. In this paper, we present the design of an inexpensive small-scale VTOL platform that can be built from off-the-shelf components for less than 1000 USD. The vehicle design mimics the first stage of a reusable launcher, making it a perfect test-bed for G & C algorithms. To control the vehicle during ascent and descent, we propose a real-time optimization-based G & C algorithm. The key features are a real-time minimum fuel and free-final-time optimal guidance combined with an offset-free tracking model predictive position controller. The vehicle hardware design and the G & C algorithm are experimentally validated both indoors and outdoor, showing reliable operation in a fully autonomous fashion with all computations done on-board and in real-time.

The main novelty with respect to the related literature is that we consider SDEs in the Itô sense, with progressively measurable coefficients, for which an explicit Itô-Stratonovich conversion is not available. We prove convergence of the Magnus expansion up to a stop** time τ and provide a novel asymptotic estimate of the cumulative distribution function of t. As an application, we propose a new method for the numerical solution of stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) based on spatial discretization and application of the stochastic Magnus expansion. A notable feature of the method is that it is fully parallelizable. We also present numerical tests in order to asses the accuracy of the numerical schemes.

We consider a two-factor model for the valuation of a non callable defaultable bond which pays coupons at certain given dates. The model under consideration is the Jump to Default Constant Elasticity of Variance (JDCEV) model. The JDCEV model is an improvement of the reduced form approach, which unifies credit and equity models into a single framework allowing for stochastic and possible negative interest rates. From the mathematical point of view, the valuation involves two partial differential equation (PDE) problems for each coupon. First, we obtain the existence of solution for these PDE problems. In order to solve them, we propose appropriate numerical schemes based on a Crank-Nicolson semi-Lagrangian method for time discretization combined with bi-quadratic Lagrange finite elements for space discretization. Once the numerical solutions of the PDEs are obtained, a post-processing procedure is carried out in order to achieve the value of the bond. This post-processing includes the computation of an integral term which is approximated by using the composite trapezoidal rule. Finally, we present some numerical results for real market bonds issued by different firms in order to illustrate the proper behaviour of the numerical schemes. Moreover, we obtain an agreement between the numerical results from the PDE approach and those ones obtained by applying a Monte Carlo technique and an asymptotic approximation method.

We derive a mean-field limit using a weak convergence analysis and find an explicit measure-valued process associated with a large interbanking system. We define systemic risk indicators and derive, using the limiting process, several law of large numbers results and verify these numerically. We conclude that self-exciting shocks increase the systemic risk in the network and their presence in interbank networks should not be ignored.

We recover explicit limits of these derivatives for (T,k) approaching the origin within the parabolic region |x-k|^2 < λ T, with x denoting the spot log-price of the underlying asset and where λ is a positive and arbitrarily large constant. Such limits yield the exact Taylor formula for implied volatility within the parabola |x-k|^2 < λ T. In order to include important models of interest in mathematical finance, e.g. Heston, CEV, SABR, the analysis is carried out under the assumption that the infinitesimal generator of the diffusion is only locally elliptic.

Abstract:
We find approximate solutions of partial integro-differential equations, which arise in financial models when defaultable assets are described by general scalar Lévy-type stochastic processes. We derive rigorous error bounds for the approximate solutions. We also provide numerical examples illustrating the usefulness and versatility of our methods in a variety of financial settings.

We consider the problem of maximizing expected utility for a power investor who can allocate his wealth in a stock, a defaultable security, and a money market account. The dynamics of these security prices are governed by geometric Brownian motions modulated by a hidden continuous time finite state Markov chain. We reduce the partially observed stochastic control problem to a complete observation risk sensitive control problem via the filtered regime switching probabilities. We separate the latter into pre-default and post-default dynamic optimization subproblems, and obtain two coupled Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) partial differential equations. We prove existence and uniqueness of a globally bounded classical solution to each HJB equation, and give the corresponding verification theorem. We provide a numerical analysis showing that the investor increases his holdings in stock as the filter probability of being in high growth regimes increases, and decreases his credit risk exposure when the filter probability of being in high default risk regimes gets larger.
