We develop a discrete differential geometry for surfaces of non-constant negative curvature, which can be used to model various phenomena from the growth of flower petals to marine invertebrate swimming. Specifically, we derive and numerically integrate a version of the classical Lelieuvre formulas that apply to immersions of $C^{1,1}$ hyperbolic surfaces of non-constant curvature. In contrast to the constant curvature case, these formulas do not provide an explicit method for constructing an immersion but rather describe an immersion via an implicit set of equations. We propose an iterative method for resolving these equations. Because we are interested in scenarios where the curvature is a function of the intrinsic material coordinates, in particular, on the geodesic distance from an origin, we suggest a fast marching method for computing geodesic distance on manifolds. We apply our methods to generate surfaces of non-constant curvature and demonstrate how one can introduce branch points to account for the sort of multi-generational buckling and subwrinkling observed in many applications.

We present a semi-real-time algorithm for minimal-time optimal path planning based on optimal control theory, dynamic programming, and Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ) equations. Partial differential equation (PDE) based optimal path planning methods are well-established in the literature, and provide an interpretable alternative to black-box machine learning algorithms. However, due to the computational burden of grid-based PDE solvers, many previous methods do not scale well to high dimensional problems and are not applicable in real-time scenarios even for low dimensional problems. We present a semi-real-time algorithm for optimal path planning in the HJ formulation, using grid-free numerical methods based on Hopf-Lax formulas. In doing so, we retain the intepretablity of PDE based path planning, but because the numerical method is grid-free, it is efficient and does not suffer from the curse of dimensionality, and thus can be applied in semi-real-time and account for realistic concerns like obstacle discovery. This represents a significant step in averting the tradeoff between interpretability and efficiency. We present the algorithm with application to synthetic examples of isotropic motion planning in two-dimensions, though with slight adjustments, it could be applied to many other problems.

Information sharing is a ubiquitous and consequential behavior that has been proposed to play a critical role in cultivating and maintaining a sense of shared reality. Across three studies, we tested this theory by investigating whether or not people are especially likely to share information that they believe will be interpreted similarly by others in their social circles. Using neuroimaging while members of the same community viewed brief film clips, we found that more similar neural responding of participants was associated with a greater likelihood to share content. We then tested this relationship using behavioral studies and found (1) that people were particularly likely to share content about which they believed others in their social circles would share their viewpoints and (2) that this relationship is causal. In concert, our findings support the idea that people are driven to share information to create and reinforce shared understanding, which is critical to social connection.

We present a partial-differential-equation-based optimal path-planning framework for curvature constrained motion, with application to vehicles in 2- and 3-spatial-dimensions. This formulation relies on optimal control theory, dynamic programming, and Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations. We develop efficient and scalable algorithms for solutions of high dimensional Hamilton-Jacobi equations which can solve these types of path-planning problems efficiently, even in high dimensions, while maintaining the Hamilton-Jacobi formulation. Because our method is rooted in optimal control theory and has no black box components, it has solid interpretability, and thus averts the tradeoff between interpretability and efficiency for high-dimensional path-planning problems. We demonstrate our method with several examples.

Recent work from public health experts suggests that incorporating human behavior is crucial in faithfully modeling an epidemic. We present a reaction-diffusion partial differential equation SIR-type population model for an epidemic including behavioral concerns. In our model, the disease spreads via mass action, as is customary in compartmental models. However, drawing from social contagion theory, we assume that as the disease spreads and prevention measures are enacted, noncompliance with prevention measures also spreads throughout the population. We prove global existence of classical solutions of our model, and then perform R0-type analysis and determine asymptotic behavior of the model in different parameter regimes. Finally, we simulate the model and discuss the new facets which distinguish our model from basic SIR-type models.

The chemical evolution of an exoplanetary Venus-like atmosphere is dependent upon the ultraviolet to near ultraviolet (FUV-NUV) radiation ratio from the parent star, the balance between CO$_{2}$ photolysis and recombination via reactions that depend on the water abundance, and various catalytic chemical cycles. In this study, we use a three-dimensional (3-D) model to simulate conditions for a Venus-like exoplanet orbiting the M-dwarf type star GJ 436 by varying the star/planet distance and considering the resultant effects on heating/cooling and dynamics. The simulation includes the middle and upper atmosphere (<40 mbar). Overall, these model comparisons reveal that the impact of extreme ultraviolet to ultraviolet (EUV-UV) heating on the energy balance shows both radiative and dynamical processes are responsible for driving significant variations in zonal winds and global temperature profiles at < 10$^{-5}$ mbar. More specifically, CO$_{2}$ 15-$μ$m cooling balances EUV/UV and Near InfraRed (NIR) heating at altitudes below 10$^{-7}$ mbar pressure with a strong maximum balance for pressures at ~10$^{-5}$ mbar, thus explaining the invariance of the temperature distribution at altitudes below 10$^{-5}$mbar pressure for all cases. Our model comparisons also show that moderate changes in NIR heating result in relatively small changes in neutral temperature in the upper atmosphere, and virtually no change in the middle atmosphere. However, with larger changes in the NIR heating profile, much greater changes in neutral temperature occur in the entire upper and middle atmosphere studied.

In previous similar work, the vehicle has been simplified to a point mass and the obstacles have been stationary. Our formulation accounts for a rectangular vehicle, and involves the dynamic programming principle and a time-dependent Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) formulation which allows for moving obstacles. To our knowledge, this is the first HJB formulation of the problem which allows for moving obstacles. We design an upwind finite difference scheme to approximate the equation and demonstrate the efficacy of our model with a few synthetic examples.

The production of prompt charged particles in proton-lead collisions and in proton-proton collisions at the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy ${\sqrt{s_{\scriptscriptstyle\mathrm{NN}}}=5\,\mathrm{TeV}}$ is studied at LHCb as a function of pseudorapidity ($η$) and transverse momentum ($p_{\mathrm{T}}$) with respect to the proton beam direction. The nuclear modification factor for charged particles is determined as a function of $η$ between ${-4.8<η<-2.5}$ (backward region) and ${2.0<η<4.8}$ (forward region), and $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ between ${0.2<p_{\mathrm{T}}<8.0\,\mathrm{GeV}/c}$. The results show a suppression of charged particle production in proton-lead collisions relative to proton-proton collisions in the forward region and an enhancement in the backward region for $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ larger than $1.5\,\mathrm{GeV}/c$. This measurement constrains nuclear PDFs and saturation models at previously unexplored values of the parton momentum fraction down to $10^{-6}$.

The cross-section within the rapidity range of $2.0 < y < 4.5$ is measured to be $4.45\pm0.24\pm0.18\pm0.58$ mb, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third originates from the luminosity determination. The cross-section is also measured in $J/ψ$ rapidity intervals. The results are compared to predictions from phenomenological models.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, conflicting opinions on physical distancing swept across social media, affecting both human behavior and the spread of COVID-19. Inspired by such phenomena, we construct a two-layer multiplex network for the coupled spread of a disease and conflicting opinions. We model each process as a contagion. On one layer, we consider the concurrent evolution of two opinions -- pro-physical-distancing and anti-physical-distancing -- that compete with each other and have mutual immunity to each other. The disease evolves on the other layer, and individuals are less likely (respectively, more likely) to become infected when they adopt the pro-physical-distancing (respectively, anti-physical-distancing) opinion. We develop approximations of mean-field type by generalizing monolayer pair approximations to multilayer networks; these approximations agree well with Monte Carlo simulations for a broad range of parameters and several network structures. Through numerical simulations, we illustrate the influence of opinion dynamics on the spread of the disease from complex interactions both between the two conflicting opinions and between the opinions and the disease. We find that lengthening the duration that individuals hold an opinion may help suppress disease transmission, and we demonstrate that increasing the cross-layer correlations or intra-layer correlations of node degrees may lead to fewer individuals becoming infected with the disease.

Loneliness is detrimental to well-being and is often accompanied by self-reported feelings of not being understood by others. What contributes to such feelings in lonely people? We used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) of 66 participants to unobtrusively measure the relative alignment of people's mental processing of naturalistic stimuli and tested whether or not lonely people actually process the world in idiosyncratic ways. We found evidence for such idiosyncrasy: lonely individuals' neural responses were dissimilar to their peers, particularly in regions of the default-mode network in which similar responses have been associated with shared perspectives and subjective understanding. These relationships persisted when controlling for demographic similarities, objective social isolation, and participants' friendships with each other. Our findings suggest the possibility that being surrounded by people who see the world differently from oneself, even if one is friends with them, may be a risk factor for loneliness.

A measurement of mixing and $C\!P$ violation in neutral charm mesons is performed using data reconstructed in proton-proton collisions collected by the LHCb experiment from 2016 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4$\textrm{fb}^{-1}$. A total of $30.6$ million $D^{0}\rightarrow K^{0}_{\mathrm{S}}π^{+}π^{-}$ decays are analyzed using a method optimized for the measurement of the mass difference between neutral charm-meson eigenstates. Allowing for $C\!P$ violation in mixing and in the interference between mixing and decay, the mass and decay-width differences are measured to be $x_{C\!P} = \left[3.97\pm0.46\textrm{(stat)}\pm 0.29\textrm{(syst)}\right]\times10^{-3}$ and $y_{C\!P} = \left[4.59\pm1.20\textrm{(stat)}\pm0.85\textrm{(syst)}\right]\times10^{-3}$, respectively. The $C\!P$-violating parameters are measured as $Δx = \left[-0.27\pm0.18\textrm{(stat)}\pm0.01\textrm{(syst)}\right]\times10^{-3}$ and $Δy = \left[0.20\pm0.36\textrm{(stat)}\pm0.13\textrm{(syst)}\right]\times10^{-3}$. This is the first observation of a nonzero mass difference in the $D^0$ meson system, with a significance exceeding seven standard deviations. The data are consistent with $C\!P$ symmetry, and improve existing constraints on the associated parameters.

People differ in how they attend to, interpret, and respond to their surroundings. Convergent processing of the world may be one factor that contributes to social connections between individuals. We used neuroimaging and network analysis to investigate whether the most central individuals in their communities (as measured by in-degree centrality, a notion of popularity) process the world in a particularly normative way. We found that more central individuals had exceptionally similar neural responses to their peers and especially to each other in brain regions that are associated with high-level interpretations and social cognition (e.g., in the default-mode network), whereas less-central individuals exhibited more idiosyncratic responses. Self-reported enjoyment of and interest in stimuli followed a similar pattern, but accounting for these data did not change our main results. These findings suggest that highly-central individuals process the world in exceptionally similar ways, whereas less-central individuals process the world in idiosyncratic ways.

The $CP$-violating phase and lifetime parameters of the $B^0_s$ system are measured to be $φ_s=0.00\pm0.28\pm0.07$ rad, $ΔΓ_s=0.115\pm0.045\pm0.011$ ps$^{-1}$ and $Γ_s=0.608\pm0.018\pm0.012$ ps$^{-1}$ where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This is the first time that $CP$-violating parameters are measured in the $B^0_s\to J/ψφ$ decay with an $e^+e^-$ pair in the final state. The results are consistent with previous measurements in other channels and with the Standard Model predictions.

The $D^0$ meson is required to originate from a $D^*(2010)^+ \to D^0 π^+$ decay, such that its flavour at production is identified by the charge of the accompanying pion. The slope of the time-dependent asymmetry of the decay rates of $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0$ mesons into the final states under consideration is measured to be $ΔY_{K^+ K^-} = (-2.3 \pm 1.5 \pm 0.3) \times 10^{-4}$, $ΔY_{π^+ π^-} = (-4.0 \pm 2.8 \pm 0.4)\times 10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are compatible with the conservation of the charge-parity symmetry at the level of 2 standard deviations and improve the precision by nearly a factor of two.

All helicity amplitudes and phases are measured, and the longitudinal polarisation fraction is determined to be $f_{\rm L} = 0.578 \pm 0.010 \pm 0.011$ with world-best precision, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The pattern of helicity amplitude magnitudes is found to align with expectations from quark-helicity conservation in $B$ decays. The ratio of branching fractions $[\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to D^{*-} D_s^{*+}) \times \mathcal{B}(D_s^{*+} \to D_s^+ γ)]/\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to D^{*-} D_s^+)$ is measured to be $2.045 \pm 0.022 \pm 0.071$ with world-best precision. Mesons comprising a beauty quark and a strange quark can oscillate between particle (B0s) and antiparticle (B0s) flavour eigenstates, with a frequency given by the mass difference between heavy and light mass eigenstates, deltams. Here we present ameasurement of deltams using B0s2DsPi decays produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The oscillation frequency is found to be deltams = 17.7683 +- 0.0051 +- 0.0032 ps-1, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This measurement improves upon the current deltams precision by a factor of two. We combine this result with previous LHCb measurements to determine deltams = 17.7656 +- 0.0057 ps-1, which is the legacy measurement of the original LHCb detector.

The Standard Model of particle physics currently provides our best description of fundamental particles and their interactions. The theory predicts that the different charged leptons, the electron, muon and tau, have identical electroweak interaction strengths. Previous measurements have shown a wide range of particle decays are consistent with this principle of lepton universality. This article presents evidence for the breaking of lepton universality in beauty-quark decays, with a significance of 3.1 standard deviations, based on proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. The measurements are of processes in which a beauty meson transforms into a strange meson with the emission of either an electron and a positron, or a muon and an antimuon. If confirmed by future measurements, this violation of lepton universality would imply physics beyond the Standard Model, such as a new fundamental interaction between quarks and leptons.

Searches for $CP$ violation in the two-body decays $D_{(s)}^{+}\rightarrow h^{+}π^{0}$ and $D_{(s)}^{+} \rightarrow h^{+}η$ (where $h^{+}$ denotes a $π^{+}$ or $K^{+}$ meson) are performed using $pp$ collision data collected by the LHCb experiment corresponding to either 9 fb$^{-1}$ or 6 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. The $π^{0}$ and $η$ mesons are reconstructed using the $e^{+}e^{-}γ$ final state, which can proceed as three-body decays $π^{0}\rightarrow e^{+}e^{-}γ$ and $η\rightarrow e^{+}e^{-}γ$, or via the two-body decays $π^{0}\rightarrow γγ$ and $η\rightarrowγγ$ followed by a photon conversion. The measurements are made relative to the control modes $D_{(s)}^{+}\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} h^{+}$ to cancel the production and detection asymmetries. The $CP$ asymmetries are measured to be \begin{align} \mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^{+}\rightarrow π^{+}π^{0}) &= (-1.3 \pm 0.9 \pm 0.6 )\%, \end{align} \begin{align} \mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}π^{0}) &= (-3.2 \pm 4.7 \pm 2.1 )\%, \end{align} \begin{align} \mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^{+}\rightarrow π^{+}η) &= (-0.2 \pm 0.8 \pm 0.4 )\%, \end{align} \begin{align} \mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}η) &= (-6 \pm 10 \pm 4 )\%, \end{align} \begin{align} \mathcal{A}_{CP}(D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}π^{0}) &= (-0.8 \pm 3.9 \pm 1.2 )\%, \end{align} \begin{align} \mathcal{A}_{CP}(D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow π^{+}η) &= (0.8 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.5 )\%, \end{align} \begin{align} \mathcal{A}_{CP}(D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}η) &= (0.9 \pm 3.7 \pm 1.1 )\%, \end{align} where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These results are consistent with no $CP$ violation and mostly constitute the most precise measurements of $\mathcal{A}_{CP}$ in these decay modes to date.

This Letter reports the first measurement of prompt $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}$ charmonium production in nuclear collisions at Large Hadron Collider energies. The cross-section ratio $σ(χ_{c2}) / σ(χ_{c1})$ is measured in $p$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 8.16 TeV, collected with the LHCb experiment. The $χ_{c1,2}$ states are reconstructed via their decay to a $\rm{J}/ψ$ meson, subsequently decaying into a pair of oppositely charged muons, and a photon, which is reconstructed in the calorimeter or via its conversion in the detector material. The cross-section ratio is consistent with unity in the two considered rapidity regions. Comparison with a corresponding cross-section ratio previously measured by the LHCb collaboration in $pp$ collisions suggests that $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}$ states are similarly affected by nuclear effects occurring in $p$Pb collisions.

The ratio of the $B^0_s$ and $B^0$ fragmentation fractions, $f_s/f_d$, in proton-proton collisions at the LHC, is obtained as a function of $B$-meson transverse momentum and collision centre-of-mass energy from the combined analysis of different $B$-decay channels measured by the LHCb experiment. The results are described by a linear function of the meson transverse momentum, or with a function inspired by Tsallis statistics. Precise measurements of the branching fractions of the $B^0_s \to J/ψφ$ and $B^0_s \to D^-_s π^+$ decays are performed, reducing their uncertainty by about a factor of two with respect to previous world averages. Numerous $B^0_s$ decay branching fractions, measured at the LHCb experiment, are also updated using the new values of $f_s/f_d$ and branching fractions of normalisation channels. These results reduce a major source of systematic uncertainty in several searches for new physics performed through measurements of $B^0_s$ branching fractions.

The first observation of exotic states with a new quark content $c \bar{c} u \bar{s}$ decaying to the $J/ψK^+$ final state is reported with high significance from an amplitude analysis of the $B^+ \to J/ψφK^+$ decay. The analysis is carried out using proton-proton collision data corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. The most significant state, $Z_{cs}(4000)^+$, has a mass of $4003\pm6\,^{+\,\phantom{0}4}_{-\,14}$ MeV, a width of $131\pm15\pm26$ MeV, and spin-parity $J^P=1^+$, where the quoted uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. A new $1^+$ $X(4685)$ state decaying to the $J/ψφ$ final state is also observed with high significance. In addition, the four previously reported $J/ψφ$ states are confirmed and two more exotic states, $Z_{cs}(4220)^+$ and $X(4630)$, are observed with significance exceeding five standard deviations.

For the first time, the full set of CP-averaged angular observables is measured in intervals of the dimuon invariant mass squared. Local deviations from Standard Model predictions are observed, similar to those in previous LHCb analyses of the isospin-partner $B^{0}\rightarrow K^{\ast0}μ^{+}μ^{-}$ decay. The global tension is dependent on which effective couplings are considered and on the choice of theory nuisance parameters.

The CP asymmetry is measured to be $0.025 \pm 0.015 \pm 0.006 \pm 0.003$, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to an external input, respectively. This is the most precise measurement of the CP asymmetry in the decay $B^{+} \rightarrow K^{+} π^{0}$ and exceeds the precision on the current world average. This direct CP asymmetry is a key input to studies of a long-standing anomaly in $B$ meson decays, known as the $Kπ$-puzzle. The asymmetry is consistent with the previous measurements of this quantity, confirming and significantly enhancing the observed anomalous difference between the direct CP asymmetries of the $B^{0} \rightarrow K^{+} π^{-}$ and $B^{+} \rightarrow K^{+} π^{0}$ decays.

Decays of the $D^*$ meson to the $Dπ^0$ and $Dγ$ final states are partially reconstructed without inclusion of the neutral pion or photon. Decays of the $D$ meson are reconstructed in the $K^\pm π^\mp$, $K^+K^-$, and $π^+π^-$ final states. The analysis uses a sample of charged $B$ mesons produced in proton-proton collisions and collected with the LHCb experiment, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 2.0, 1.0, and 5.7 fb$^{-1}$ taken at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, respectively. The measurements of partially reconstructed $B^\pm \to D^* K^\pm$ and $B^\pm \to D^* π^\pm$ with $D \to K^\mp π^\pm$ decays are the first of their kind, and a first observation of the $B^\pm \to (D π^0)_{D^*} π^\pm$ decay is made with a significance of 6.1 standard deviations. All $C\!P$ observables are measured with world-best precision, and in combination with other LHCb results will provide strong constraints on the CKM angle $γ$.

The same data sample is used to measure the time-integrated $CP$ asymmetries of $B^0\to K^+π^-$ and $B^0_\mathrm{s}\to K^-π^+$ decays and the results are \begin{eqnarray*} A_{CP}^{B^0} & = & -0.0824 \pm 0.0033 \pm 0.0033, \\ A_{CP}^{B^0_\mathrm{s}} & = & \phantom{-}0.236\phantom{0} \pm 0.013\phantom{0} \pm 0.011. \end{eqnarray*} All results are consistent with earlier measurements. A combination of LHCb measurements provides the first observation of time-dependent $CP$ violation in $B^0_\mathrm{s}$ decays.

The decay $B_s^0 \to D_s^-μ^+ν_μ$, where $D_s^-$ is reconstructed in the final state $K^+K^-π^-$, is used as a normalization channel to minimize the experimental systematic uncertainty. Theoretical calculations on the form factors of the $B_s^0 \to K^-$ and $B_s^0 \to D_s^-$ transitions are employed to determine the ratio of the CKM matrix elements ${|V_{ub}|}/{|V_{cb}|}$ at low and high $B_s^0 \to K^-$ momentum transfer.

Long-lived particles decaying to $e^\pm μ^\mp ν$, with masses between 7 and $50$ GeV/c$^2$ and lifetimes between 2 and $50$ ps, are searched for by looking at displaced vertices containing electrons and muons of opposite charges. The search is performed using $5.4$ fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions collected with the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV. Three mechanisms of production of long-lived particles are considered: the direct pair production from quark interactions, the pair production from the decay of a Standard-Model-like Higgs boson with a mass of $125$ GeV/c$^2$, and the charged current production from an on-shell $W$ boson with an additional lepton. No evidence of these long-lived states is obtained and upper limits on the production cross-section times branching fraction are set on the different production modes.

The ratio of branching fractions between the $\varLambda^0_b \to \varLambda^+_c K^+ K^- π^-$ and the $\varLambda^{0}_{b}\to\varLambda^{+}_{c}D^{-}_{s}$ decays is measured to be \begin{equation*} \frac{\mathcal{B} ( \varLambda^0_b \to \varLambda^+_c K^+ K^- π^-) } {\mathcal{B} ( \varLambda^0_b \to \varLambda^+_c D^-_s)} = (9.26 \pm 0.29 \pm 0.46 \pm 0.26)\times10^{-2}, \end{equation*} where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third is due to the knowledge of the $D^-_s \to K^+ K^- π^-$ branching fraction. No structure on the invariant mass distribution of the $\varLambda^+_c K^+$ system is found, consistent with no open-charm pentaquark signature.

A time-dependent amplitude analysis is performed to extract the $CP$-violating weak phase $γ-2β_s$ and, subsequently, $γ$ by taking the $B^0_s$-$\bar{B}^0_s$ mixing phase $β_{s}$ as an external input. The measurement yields $γ= (44 \pm 12)^\circ$ modulo $180^\circ$, where statistical and systematic uncertainties are combined. An alternative model-independent measurement, integrating over the five-dimensional phase space of the decay, yields $γ= (44^{\,+\,20}_{\,-\,13})^\circ$ modulo $180^\circ$. Moreover, the $B^0_s$-$\bar{B}^0_s$ oscillation frequency is measured from the flavour-specific control channel $B^0_s \rightarrow D_s^- π^+ π^+ π^-$ to be $Δm_s = (17.757 \pm 0.007 \,({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.008 \,({\rm syst.})) \text{ps}^{-1}$, consistent with and more precise than the current world-average value.

A new excited $D_s^+$ meson is observed decaying into the $D^+K^+π^-$ final state with large statistical significance. The pole mass and width, and the spin-parity of the new state are measured with an amplitude analysis to be $m_R=2591\pm6\pm7\,{\rm MeV}$, $Γ_R=89\pm16\pm12\,{\rm MeV}$ and $J^P=0^-$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. Fit fractions for all components in the amplitude analysis are also reported. The new resonance, denoted as $D_{s0}(2590)^+$, is a strong candidate to be the $D_s(2^1{S}_0)^+$ state, the radial excitation of the pseudoscalar ground-state $D_s^+$ meson.

Upper limits on the coupling of a heavy neutrino with the Standard Model neutrino are set at $95\%$ confidence level in the heavy-neutrino mass range from 5 to $50 \text{ GeV}/c^2$. These are of the order of $10^{-3}$ for lepton-number-conserving decays and of the order of $10^{-4}$ for lepton-number-violating heavy-neutrino decays.

A structure is observed in the $B^+K^-$ mass spectrum in a sample of proton--proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, collected with the LHCb detector and corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb${}^-1$. The structure is interpreted as the result of overlap** excited $B_s^0$ states. With high significance, a two-peak hypothesis provides a better description of the data than a single resonance. Under this hypothesis the masses and widths of the two states, assuming they decay directly to $B^+K^-$, are determined to be
$m_1 = 6063.5 \pm 1.2 \text{ (stat)} \pm 0.8\text{ (syst) MeV},$
$Γ_1 = 26 \pm 4 \text{ (stat)} \pm 4\text{ (syst) MeV},$
$m_2 = 6114 \pm 3 \text{ (stat)} \pm 5\text{ (syst) MeV},$
$Γ_2 = 66 \pm 18 \text{ (stat)} \pm 21\text{ (syst) MeV}.$
Alternative values assuming a decay through $B^{*+}K^-$, with a missing photon from the $B^{*+} \rightarrow B^+γ$ decay, which are shifted by approximately 45 MeV are also determined. The possibility of a single state decaying in both channels is also considered. The ratio of the total production cross-section times branching fraction of the new states relative to the previously observed $B_{s2}^{*0}$ state is determined to be $0.87 \pm 0.15 \text{ (stat)} \pm 0.19 \text{ (syst)}$.
