In this paper, we study the crucial elements of complex networks, namely nodes, and edges and their properties such as their community structure, which play an important role in dictating the robustness of the network towards structural perturbations. Specifically, we want to identify all vital nodes, which when removed would lead to a large change in the underlying community structure of the network. This problem is extremely important because the community structure of a network allows deep underlying insights into how function of a network and its topology affect each other. Moreover, it even provides a way to condense large graphs into smaller graphs where each community acts as a meta node and hence aids in easier network analysis. If this community structure was to be compromised by either accidental or intentional perturbations to the network, that would make such analysis difficult. Since the problem of identifying such vital nodes is computationally intractable, we propose some heuristics that allow us to find solutions close to the optimal solution. To certify the effectiveness of our approach, we first test these heuristics on small networks, and then move to larger networks to show that we achieve similar results. The results reveal that the proposed approaches are effective to analyze the vulnerability of communities in graphs irrespective of their size and scale. From the application point of view, we show that the proposed algorithm is scalable and can be applied to the information diffusion task to curtail the spread of active nodes which was observed empirically. Additionally, we show the performance of our algorithm through an extrinsic evaluation -- we employ two tasks, like prediction and information diffusion, and show that the effect of our algorithm on these tasks is higher than the other baselines.

We demonstrate negative refraction of microwaves in metallic photonic crystals. The spectral response of the photonic crystal, which manifests both positive and negative refraction, is in complete agreement with band-structure calculations and numerical simulations. The negative refraction observed corresponds to left-handed electromagnetism and arises due to the dispersion characteristics of waves in a periodic medium. This mechanism for negative refraction is different from that in metamaterials.

They suggest that competition and coexistence of superconductivity with dielectricity occurs that is analogous to that between superconductivity and anti-ferromagnetism. These results also indicate that inhomogeneous electronic states, such as charge stripes and oxygen ordering, are strongly connected to underlying lattice instabilities.

It is notable that these features are far more striking than the corresponding features in static measurements. The results are discussed in the context of structural changes leading to polaron ordering.

We report the observation of two dielectric transitions at 110K and 60K in the microwave response of non-superconducting YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{6.0} crystals. The transitions are characterized by a change in polarizability and presence of loss peaks, associated with overdamped dielectric modes. An explanation is presented in terms of changes in polarizability of the apical O atoms in the Ba-O layer, affected by lattice softening at 110K, due to change in buckling of the Cu-O layer. The onset of another mode at 60K strongly suggests an additional local lattice change at this temperature. Thus microwave dielectric measurements are sensitive indicators of lattice softening which may be relevant to superconductivity.

The non-linear dependence on applied $ac$ field ($b_ω$) or current ($% i_ω$) of the microwave (ac) impedance $R_ω+iX_ω$ of both short and long Josephson junctions is calculated under a variety of excitation conditions. The dependence on the junction width is studied, for both field symmetric (current anti-symmetric) and field anti-symmetric (current symmetric) excitation configurations. The resistance shows step-like features every time a fluxon (soliton) enters the junction, with a corresponding phase slip seen in the reactance. For finite widths the interference of fluxons leads to some interesting effects which are described. Many of these calculated results are observed in microwave impedance measurements on intrinsic and fabricated Josephson junctions in the high temperature superconductors, and new effects are suggested. When a $% dc$ field ($b_{dc}$) or current ($i_{dc}$) is applied, interesting phase locking effects are observed in the ac impedance $Z_ω$. In particular an almost periodic dependence on the dc bias is seen similar to that observed in microwave experiments at very low dc field bias. These results are generic to all systems with a $\cos (φ)$ potential in the overdamped limit and subjected to an ac drive.
