These benchmark models are used to interpret the results. Exclusion limits at the 95% C.L. on the $Z'$ and $W'$ resonance production cross section times branching ratio to electroweak gauge boson pairs in the resonance mass range between 1.0 and 4.5 TeV are here converted to constraints on $Z$-$Z'$ and $W$-$W'$ mixing parameters and masses. We present exclusion regions on the parameter spaces of the $Z'$ and $W'$ and show that the obtained exclusion regions are significantly extended compared to those derived from the previous analysis performed with Tevatron data as well as with the CMS data collected at 7 and 8 TeV in Run 1. The reported limits are the most restrictive to date.

New charged vector bosons $W'$ decaying into gauge boson pairs $WZ$ are predicted in many scenarios of new physics, including models with an extended gauge sector (EGM). Due to the large variety of models (other unification groups, models with Supersymmetry, Little Higgs Models, Extra Dimensions) the more general EGM approach is here considered. For what concerns $W'$-production, these models are parametrised by two parameters, the $W^\prime$ mass $M_{W^\prime}$ and the $W$-$W^\prime$ mixing parameter $ξ$. The diboson $WZ$ production allows to place stringent constraints on this mixing angle and the $W'$ mass, which we determine and present for the first time by using data from $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the CERN LHC, with integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb$^{-1}$. By comparing the experimental limits to the theoretical predictions for the total cross section of $W'$ resonant production and its subsequent decay into $WZ$ pairs, we show that the derived constraints on the mixing angle for the benchmark model are rather small, between $10^{-4}$ and $10^{-3}$, i.e., greatly improved with respect to those derived from the global analysis of electroweak data which yield $ξ\sim 10^{-2}$. We combine the limits derived from $WZ$ production data with those obtained from the $W'\to eν$ process in order to significantly extend the exclusion region in the $M_{W'}$-$ξ$ parameter plane and obtain the most stringent exclusion limits to date. We present the combined allowed parameter space for the EGM $W'$ boson after incorporating indirect constraints from low energy electroweak data, direct search constraints from Tevatron and from the LHC Run I with 7 and 8 TeV as well as at Run II with 13 TeV data.

For these benchmark models we calculate and present theoretical expectations for different values of the $Z^\prime$ mass $M_2$ and mixing parameter $ξ$. Our results are based on the narrow width approximation which allows to make a convenient comparison of experiment to theoretical benchmark models. The diboson production allows to place stringent constraints on the $Z$-$Z'$ mixing angle and the $Z'$ mass, which we determine by using data from $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the CERN LHC, with integrated luminosity of $\sim$ 36 fb$^{-1}$. We apply, as the basic observable of the analysis, the center-edge asymmetry A_{CE} of the cosine of the polar angle of the produced photons in the diphoton rest frame to distinguish between the tested spin hypotheses. We show that the center-edge asymmetry A_{CE} should provide strong discrimination between the possibilities of spin-0 and spin-2 with graviton-like couplings, depending on the fraction of q\bar{q} production of the spin-2 signal, reaching a {CL}_s<10^{-6} for f_{qq}=0. Indeed, the A_{CE} has the potential to do better than existing analyses for f_{qq}<0.4.

The results of a model-dependent analysis of Z' boson effects are presented as constraints on the Z-Z' mixing angle phi and Z' boson mass. The process pp\to W^+W^- + X allows to place stringent constraints on the Z-Z' mixing angle. Specifically, we find that the present LHC bounds on the mixing angle are of the order a few times 10^{-3}, what is of the same order as those derived from the electroweak data. These results were derived from analysis of W-pair production at sqrt{s}=8 TeV and integrated luminosity of 20 fb^{-1}. Further improvement on the constraining of this mixing can be achieved from the analysis of data on WW \to l nu l'nu' (l,l'=e or mu) and WW \to l nu jj final states collected at the LHC with nominal energy and luminosity, 14 TeV and 100 fb^{-1}, and should be phi \sim 10^{-4}-10^{-3}.

Such clear identification of the model is possible by using a certain double polarization asymmetry. The availability of both beams being polarized plays a crucial role in identifying such exotic-lepton admixture. In addition, the sensitivity of the ILC for probing exotic-lepton admixture is substantially enhanced when the polarization of the produced W^\pm bosons is considered.

If such a deviation were observed, it would be important to identify the actual source among the possible non-standard interactions as many different new physics scenarios may lead to very similar experimental signatures. We study the possibility of uniquely identifying the indirect effects of s-channel sneutrino exchange, as predicted by supersymmetric theories with R-parity violation, against other new physics scenarios in high-energy e^+e^- annihilation into lepton pairs at the International Linear Collider. These competitive models are interactions based on gravity in large and in TeV-scale extra dimensions, anomalous gauge couplings, Z' vector bosons and compositeness-inspired four-fermion contact interactions. To evaluate the identification reach on sneutrino exchange, we use as basic observable a double polarization asymmetry, that is particularly suitable to directly test for such s-channel sneutrino exchange effects in the data analysis. The availability of both beams being polarized plays a crucial role in identifying the new physics scenario.

It is quite possible that Z's are heavy enough to lie beyond the discovery reach of the CERN Large Hadron Collider LHC, in which case only indirect signatures of Z' exchanges may emerge at future colliders, through deviations of the measured cross sections from the Standard Model predictions. We discuss in this context the foreseeable sensitivity to Z's of W^\pm-pair production cross sections at the e^+e^- International Linear Collider (ILC), especially as regards the potential of distinguishing observable effects of the Z' from analogous ones due to competitor models with anomalous trilinear gauge couplings (AGC) that can lead to the same or similar new physics experimental signatures at the ILC. The sensitivity of the ILC for probing the Z-Z' mixing and its capability to distinguish these two new physics scenarios is substantially enhanced when the polarization of the initial beams and the produced W^\pm bosons are considered. A model independent analysis of the Z' effects in the process e^+e^- \to W^+W^- allows to differentiate the full class of vector Z' models from those with anomalous trilinear gauge couplings, with one notable exception: the sequential SM (SSM)-like models can in this process not be distinguished from anomalous gauge couplings. Results of model dependent analysis of a specific Z' are expressed in terms of discovery and identification reaches on the Z-Z' mixing angle and the Z' mass.

Once such a peak in the diphoton invariant mass distribution is discovered, the determination of its spin through the distinctive photon angular distributions is needed in order to identify the associated nonstandard dynamics. We here discuss the discrimination of the spin-2 Randall-Sundrum graviton excitation against the hypothesis of a spin-0 exchange giving the same number of events under the peak, by means of the angular analysis applied to resonant diphoton events expected to be observed at the LHC. The spin-0 hypothesis is modelled by an effective interaction of a high mass gauge singlet scalar particle interacting with the standard model fields. The basic observable of our analysis is the symmetrically integrated angular asymmetry $A_{CE}$, calculated for both graviton and scalar s-channel exchanges to next-to-leading order in QCD.

It is quite possible that Z's are heavy enough to lie beyond the discovery reach expected at the CERN Large Hadron Collider LHC, in which case only indirect signatures of Z' exchanges may occur at future colliders, through deviations of the measured cross sections from the Standard Model predictions. We here discuss in this context the foreseeable sensitivity to Z's of fermion-pair production cross sections at an e^+e^- linear collider, especially as regards the potential of distinguishing different Z' models once such deviations are observed. Specifically, we assess the discovery and identification reaches on Z' gauge bosons pertinent to the E_6, LR, ALR and SSM classes of models, that should be attained at the planned International Linear Collider (ILC). With the high experimental accuracies expected at the ILC, the discovery and the identification reaches on the Z' models under consideration could be increased substantially. In particular, the identification among the different models could be achieved for values of Z' masses in the discovery (but beyond the identification) reach of the LHC. An important role in enhancing such reaches is played by the electron (and possibly the positron) longitudinally polarized beams. Also, although the purely leptonic processes are experimentally cleaner, the measurements of c- and b-quark pair production cross sections are found to carry important, and complementary, information on these searches.

Using as basic observable an angular-integrated asymmetry to be measured in Drell-Yan lepton-pair production at the LHC, we discuss the identification reach on the spin-2 of the lowest-lying Randall-Sundrum resonance predicted by gravity in one warped extra dimension, against the spin-1 and spin-0 hypotheses. Numerical results indicate that, depending on the graviton coupling strength to the standard model particles, such a spin-2 identification can extend up to mass scales of 1.0-1.6 TeV and 2.4-3.2 TeV for LHC integrated luminosities of 10 and 100 fb^{-1}, respectively.

The determination of the spin of the quantum states exchanged in the various non-standard interactions is a relevant aspect in the identification of the corresponding scenarios. We discuss the identification reach at LHC on the spin-2 of the lowest-lying Randall-Sundrum resonance, predicted by gravity with one warped extra dimension, against spin-1 and spin-0 non-standard exchanges with the same mass and producing the same number of events in the cross section. We focus on the angular distributions of leptons produced in the Drell-Yan process at the LHC, in particular we use as basic observable a normalized integrated angular asymmetry A_{CE}. Our finding is that the 95% C.L. identification reach on the spin-2 of the RS resonance (equivalently, the exclusion reach on both the spin-1 and spin-0 hypotheses for the peak) is up to a resonance mass scale of the order of 1.0 or 1.6 TeV in the case of weak coupling between graviton excitations and SM particles (k/{\bar M}_{Pl}=0.01) and 2.4 or 3.2 TeV for larger coupling constant (k/{\bar M}_{Pl}=0.1) for a time-integrated LHC luminosity of 10 or 100 fb^{-1}, respectively. Also, some comments are given on the complementary rôles of the angular analysis and the eventual discovery of the predicted second graviton excitation in the identification of the RS scenario.

If deviations were indeed observed within the experimental uncertainty, the identification of their source among the different non-standard interactions should be needed. We here consider the example of the discrimination of gravity in compactified extra dimensions (ADD model) against the four-fermion contact interactions (CI). We present assessments of the identification reach on this scenario, that could be obtained from measurements of the differential cross sections for the fermionic processes $e^+e^-\to{\bar f}f$, with $f=e,μ,τ,c,b$, at the planned ILC.

Contactlike nonstandard effective interactions can be revealed through deviations of observables from the Standard Model predictions. If such deviations were observed, the relevant source should be identified among the possible models that could explain them. We estimate the expected discrimination reach on the ADD model of gravity in large compactified extra dimensions, against the compositeness-inspired four-fermion contact interaction. As basic observables we take the differential cross sections for fermion-pair production at a 0.5-1 TeV electron-positron linear collider with both beams longitudinally polarized. For the four-fermion contact interaction, we assume a general linear combination of the individual models with definite chiralities, and arbitrary coupling constants. Accordingly, the estimated identification reach on the ADD scenario can be considered as `model-independent'. We emphasize the substantial role of beams polarization in enhancing the identification sensitivity.

We here estimate the potential identification reach on different New Physics effective interactions, obtainable from the angular distributions of lepton pair production processes at the planned International Linear Collider with polarized beams. The models discussed are the interactions based on gravity in large and in TeV^{-1} extra dimensions and the compositeness-inspired four-fermion contact interactions. For typical c.m. energies and time-integrated luminosities foreseen at the International Linear Collider [\sqrt s=0.5-1 TeV, L_{int}=50-1000 fb^{-1}], a 5σidentification reach as high as 3.5-5.8 TeV for the mass scale M_H relevant to the ADD model can be obtained, while the size of the reach on the mass scales Lambda characterizing four-fermion contact interactions can be of the order of 45-65 TeV.

The proposed International Linear Collider (ILC) is well-suited for discovering physics beyond the Standard Model and for precisely unraveling the structure of the underlying physics. The physics return can be maximized by the use of polarized beams. This report shows the paramount role of polarized beams and summarizes the benefits obtained from polarizing the positron beam, as well as the electron beam. The physics case for this option is illustrated explicitly by analyzing reference reactions in different physics scenarios. The results show that positron polarization, combined with the clean experimental environment provided by the linear collider, allows to improve strongly the potential of searches for new particles and the identification of their dynamics, which opens the road to resolve shortcomings of the Standard Model. The report also presents an overview of possible designs for polarizing both beams at the ILC, as well as for measuring their polarization.

The gluon dominance model presents a description of multiparticle production in proton-proton collisions and proton-antiproton annihilation. The collective behavior of secondary particles in $pp$-interactions at 70 GeV/c and higher is studied in the project {\bf "Thermalization"}. The obtained neutral and charged multiplicity distribution parameters explain some RHIC-data. The gluon dominance model is modified by the inclusion of intermediate quark topology for the multiplicity distribution description in the pure $p\bar p$-annihilation at few tens GeV/c and explains behavior of the second correlative moment. This article proposes a mechanism of the soft photon production as a sign of hadronization. Excess of soft photons allows one to estimate the emission region size.

Specifically, we study lepton-pair production within the ADD and RS scenarios. At the Tevatron, the graviton-Z interference is the most important contribution to the center-edge asymmetry, whereas at the LHC, the dominant contribution comes from gluon fusion via graviton exchange, which has no analogue at e^+ e^- colliders. We find that spin-2 and spin-1 exchange can be distinguished up to an ADD cut-off scale, M_H, of about 5 TeV, at the 95% CL. The combination of data from different energy points plays an important role in the determination of regions allowed for the contact interaction coupling constants. We evaluate the reach on those parameters foreseeable in the case of both electron and positron polarization fixed at some reference values, and compare it with the situation where only electron polarization is available. The analysis is based on polarized integrated cross sections with optimal kinematical cuts that can improve the sensitivity to the relevant couplings. While electron polarization would by itself allow such an analysis, the additional positron polarization (with no loss of beam intensity) and optimization can have a crucial role in improving the sensitivity to the new interactions.

We discuss the derivation of separate, model-independent limits on the couplings in the case of no observed indirect $Z^\prime$ signal within the expected experimental accuracy. In the hypothesis that such signals were, indeed, observed we assess the expected accuracy on the numerical determination of such couplings and the consequent range of $Z^\prime$ masses where the individual models can be distinguished from each other as the source of the effect.

Fermion compositness, and other new physics which can be described by an exchange of very massive particles ($Z^\prime$ boson, leptoquarks, sparticles with R-parity violating couplings), can be manifest itself as the presence of a strong four-fermion contact interaction. For the processes $e^+e^-\to μ^+μ^-$, $τ^+τ^-$, $\bar{b}b$ and $\bar{c}c$ at a future $e^+e^-$ linear collider (LC) with $\sqrt{s}=0.5$ TeV, we examine the sensitivity of the helicity cross sections to four-fermion contact interactions. If longitudinal polarization of the electron beam were available, two polarized integrated cross sections would offer the opportunity to separate the helicity cross sections and, in this way, to derive model-independent bounds on the relevant parameters. The measurement of these polarized cross sections with optimal kinematical cuts could significantly increase the sensitivity of helicity cross sections to contact interaction parameters and could give crucial information on the chiral structure of such new interactions. In addition, we consider the application of the proposed approach to the search for manifestations of a $Z^\prime$ for typical extended model examples.

To this aim, we use suitable integrated, polarized, observables directly related to the helicity cross sections that carry information on the individual Z' chiral couplings to fermions. We discuss the derivation of separate, model-independent limits on the couplings in the case of no observed indirect Z' signal within the expected experimental accuracy. In the hypothesis that such signals were, indeed, observed we assess the expected accuracy on the numerical determination of such couplings and the consequent range of Z' masses where the individual models can be distinguished from each other as the source of the effect.

Abstract:
The phenomenology of an additional U(1) neutral gauge boson Z' coupled to the third family of fermions is discussed. One might expect such a particle to contribute to processes where taus, b and t quarks are produced. Precision data from LEP1 put severe constraints on the mixing and heavy-boson mass. We find that the effects of such a particle could not be observed at hadronic colliders, be it at the Tevatron or the LHC, because of the QCD background. At LEP2 and future e^+e^- linear colliders, one could instead hope to observe such effects, in particular for b\bar b final states.

We consider the general CP conserving anomalous effective Lagrangian, as well as some specific models with reduced number of independent couplings. The analysis is based on combinations of observables with initial and final state polarizations, that allow to separately constrain the different couplings and to improve the corresponding numerical bounds.

New observables σ_\pm for the process e^+e^-\toμ^+μ^- allow one to get more direct information on additional Z' boson effects than what is obtained from the canonical ones, σand A_{FB}. Their deviations from the Standard Model predictions have very specific energy dependences, which are precisely determined by SM parameters. At energies varying from TRISTAN to LEP2, one can uniquely predict the signs of Δσ_{\pm} induced by a Z' as well as the locations of their extrema and zeros. This unambiguous energy correlation could be quite useful in distinguishing effects due to Z' exchange from those caused by other new physics sources. Furthermore, there are two energy points, \sqrt{s_{+}}\simeq 78 GeV and \sqrt{s_{-}}\simeq 113 GeV, where the SM quantities σ_\pm^{SM} as well as the deviations Δσ_{\pm} attain their minimum values or vanish. These points could be very favourable for a search for new physics beyond the SM and beyond Z' effects.
