Payload transport over flat terrain via multi-wheel robot carriers is well-understood, highly effective, and configurable. In this paper, our goal is to provide similar effectiveness and configurability for transport over rough terrain that is more suitable for legs rather than wheels. For this purpose, we consider multi-biped robot carriers, where wheels are replaced by multiple bipedal robots attached to the carrier. Our main contribution is to design a decentralized controller for such systems that can be effectively applied to varying numbers and configurations of rigidly attached bipedal robots without retraining. We present a reinforcement learning approach for training the controller in simulation that supports transfer to the real world. Our experiments in simulation provide quantitative metrics showing the effectiveness of the approach over a wide variety of simulated transport scenarios. In addition, we demonstrate the controller in the real-world for systems composed of two and three Cassie robots. To our knowledge, this is the first example of a scalable multi-biped payload transport system.

A nodal surface semimetal (NSSM) features symmetry enforced band crossings along a surface within the three-dimensional (3D) Brillouin zone. The topological robustness of the same does not always come with nonzero Berry fluxes around nodal surfaces. Irrespective of that, however, light irradiation on such system can result in interesting dynamic behavior. We find that depending on the state of polarization, one can obtain additional Weyl points/ nodal surfaces in the Floquet Hamiltonian that the time periodic system gives rise to. For simplicity we only consider two band spinless models without any spin orbit coupling, the main emphasis being to understand the low energy behavior close to the band crossings and its evolution in a Floquet system in the high frequency limit. There we find the nodal surfaces to perish or get duplicated or triplicated for different polarization scenario or different NSSM Hamiltonians. One findings open up important directions on what out of equilibrium NSSM systems has to offer in many active fields including quantum computations.

Reinforcement learning (RL) for bipedal locomotion has recently demonstrated robust gaits over moderate terrains using only proprioceptive sensing. However, such blind controllers will fail in environments where robots must anticipate and adapt to local terrain, which requires visual perception. In this paper, we propose a fully-learned system that allows bipedal robots to react to local terrain while maintaining commanded travel speed and direction. Our approach first trains a controller in simulation using a heightmap expressed in the robot's local frame. Next, data is collected in simulation to train a heightmap predictor, whose input is the history of depth images and robot states. We demonstrate that with appropriate domain randomization, this approach allows for successful sim-to-real transfer with no explicit pose estimation and no fine-tuning using real-world data. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of sim-to-real learning for vision-based bipedal locomotion over challenging terrains.

Abstract:
We consider class of integral sum graphs $H^{-i,s}_{m,j}$ subject to the conditions $-i<0<s$, $1\leq m < i$ and $1\leq j < s$ for all $i,s, m,j\in \mathbb{N}$. We apply edge-sum coloring and edge coloring on $H^{-i,s}_{m,j}$. Since the graphs fully depend on $i$ and $s$, therefore it is not easy to derive the theoretical as well as numerical results for all values of $i$ and $s$. Here, we derive t…

Here, we derive the general formula for computing the minimum number of independent color classes. We compute the edge chromatic as well as edge-sum chromatic number of $H^{-i,s}_{m,j}$ corresponding to different values of $i$, $s$, $m$ and $j$. We also compare these two techniques. We place the numerical results to verify the theoretical results.

Background and Purpose: Convolutional neural network is widely used for image recognition in the medical area at nowadays. However, overall accuracy in predicting lung tumor is low and the processing time is high as the error occurred while reconstructing the CT image. The aim of this work is to increase the overall prediction accuracy along with reducing processing time by using multispace image in pooling layer of convolution neural network. Methodology: The proposed method has the autoencoder system to improve the overall accuracy, and to predict lung cancer by using multispace image in pooling layer of convolution neural network and Adam Algorithm for optimization. First, the CT images were pre-processed by feeding image to the convolution filter and down sampled by using max pooling. Then, features are extracted using the autoencoder model based on convolutional neural network and multispace image reconstruction technique is used to reduce error while reconstructing the image which then results improved accuracy to predict lung nodule. Finally, the reconstructed images are taken as input for SoftMax classifier to classify the CT images. Results: The state-of-art and proposed solutions were processed in Python Tensor Flow and It provides significant increase in accuracy in classification of lung cancer to 99.5 from 98.9 and decrease in processing time from 10 frames/second to 12 seconds/second. Conclusion: The proposed solution provides high classification accuracy along with less processing time compared to the state of art. For future research, large dataset can be implemented, and low pixel image can be processed to evaluate the classification

The existence of numerical solutions to a fourth order singular boundary value problem arising in the theory of epitaxial growth is studied. An iterative numerical method is applied on a second order nonlinear singular boundary value problem which is the exact result of the reduction of this fourth order singular boundary value problem. It turns out that the existence or nonexistence of numerical solutions fully depends on the value of a parameter. We show that numerical solutions exist for small positive values of this parameter. For large positive values of the parameter, we find nonexistence of solutions. We also observe existence of solutions for negative values of the parameter and determine the range of parameter values which separates existence and nonexistence of solutions. This parameter has a clear physical meaning as it describes the rate at which new material is deposited onto the system. This fact allows us to interpret the physical significance of our results.

The existence and nonexistence of stationary radial solutions to the elliptic partial differential equation arising in the molecular beam epitaxy are studied. The fourth-order radial equation is non-self adjoint and has no exact solutions. Also, it admits multiple solutions. Furthermore, solutions depend on the size of the parameter. We show that solutions exist for small positive values of this parameter. For large positive values of this parameter, we prove the nonexistence of solutions. We establish the qualitative properties of the solutions and provide bounds for the values of this parameter, which help us to separate the existence from nonexistence. We propose a new numerical scheme to capture the radial solutions. The results show that the iterative method is of better accuracy, more convenient and efficient for solving BVPs, which have multiple solutions. We verify theoretical results by numerical results. We also see the existence of solutions for negative values of the same parameter.

We report pressure-dependent transient picosecond and continuous-wave photomodulation studies of disordered and ordered films of 2-methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexyloxy) poly(para-phenylenevinylene). Photoinduced absorption (PA) bands in the disordered film exhibit very weak pressure dependence and are assigned to intrachain excitons and polarons. In contrast, the ordered film exhibits two additional transient PA bands in the midinfrared that blueshift dramatically with pressure. Based on high-order configuration interaction calculations we ascribe the PA bands in the ordered film to excimers. Our work brings insight to the exciton binding energy in ordered films versus disordered films and solutions. The reduced exciton binding energy in ordered films is due to new energy states appearing below the continuum band threshold of the single strand.
