Neural network for multi-exponential sound energy decay analysis
Abstract: An established model for sound energy decay functions (EDFs) is the superposition of multiple exponentials and a noise term. This work proposes a neural-network-based approach for estimating the model parameters from EDFs. The network is trained on synthetic EDFs and evaluated on two large datasets of over 20000 EDF measurements conducted in various acoustic environments. The evaluation shows that… ▽ More

Equivariant prequantization and the moment map
Abstract: If ω is a closed G-invariant 2-form and μ a moment map, then we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for equivariant pre-quantizability that can be computed in terms of the moment map μ. We also compute the obstructions to lift the action of G to a pre-quantization bundle of ω. Our results are valid for any compact and connected Lie group G.

Equivariant differential characters and Chern-Simons bundles
Abstract: We construct Chern-Simons bundles as $\mathrm{Aut}^{+}P$-equivariant $U(1)$ -bundles with connection over the space of connections $\mathcal{A}_{P}$ on a principal $G$-bundle $P\rightarrow M$. We show that the Chern-Simons bundles are determined up to an isomorphisms by means of its equivariant holonomy. The space of equivariant holonomies is shown to coincide with the space of equivariant differe… ▽ More

Equivariant holonomy of U(1)-bundles
Abstract: We define the equivariant holonomy of an invariant connection on a principal U(1)-bundle. The properties of the ordinary holonomy are generalized to the equivariant setting. In particular, equivariant U(1)-bundles with connection are shown to be classified by its equivariant holonomy modulo isomorphisms. We also show that the equivariant holonomy can be used to obtain results about equivariant pre… ▽ More

Locality and universality in gravitational anomaly cancellation
Abstract: We obtain necesary and sufficient conditions for gravitational anomaly cancellation. We show that perturbative gravitational anomalies can never be cancelled. In a similar way, in dimensions $n\neq3\operatorname{mod}4$ it is impossible to cancell global anomalies. However, in dimensions $n=3\operatorname{mod}4$ global anomalies can be cancelled. We prove that the unique way to cancel the anomaly i… ▽ More

On the geometrical interpretation of locality in anomaly cancellation
Abstract: A notion of local section of the determinant line bundle is defined giving necessary and suficient conditions for anomaly cancellation compatible with locality. This definition gives an intrinsic geometrical interpretation of the local counterterms allowed in the renormalization program of quantum field theory. For global anomalies the conditions for anomaly cancellation are expressed in terms of… ▽ More

Differential characters and cohomology of the moduli of flat Connections
Abstract: Let $π\colon P\to M$ be a principal bundle and $p$ an invariant polynomial of degree r on the Lie algebra of the structure group. The theory of Chern-Simons differential characters is exploited to define an homology map $χ^{k} : H_{2r-k-1}(M)\times H_{k}(\mathcal{F}/\mathcal{G})\to \mathbb{R}/\mathbb{Z}$, for $k<r-1$, where $\mathcal{F} /\mathcal{G}$ is the moduli space of flat connections of $π$… ▽ More

Equivariant prequantization bundles on the space of connections and characteristic classes
Abstract: We show how characteristic classes determine equivariant prequantization bundles over the space of connections on a principal bundle. These bundles are shown to generalize the Chern-Simons line bundles to arbitrary dimensions. Our result applies to arbitrary bundles, and it is studied the action of both the gauge group and the automorphisms group. The action of the elements in the connected compon… ▽ More

Conserved current for the Cotton tensor, black hole entropy and equivariant Pontryagin forms
Abstract: The Chern-Simons lagrangian density in the space of metrics of a 3-dimensional manifold M is not invariant under the action of diffeomorphisms on M. However, its Euler-Lagrange operator can be identified with the Cotton tensor, which is invariant under diffeomorphims. As the lagrangian is not invariant, Noether Theorem cannot be applied to obtain conserved currents. We show that it is possible to… ▽ More

Non-Hamiltonian Actions and Lie-Algebra Cohomology of Vector Fields
Abstract: Two examples of $\mathrm{Diff}^+S^1$-invariant closed two-forms obtained from forms on jet bundles, which does not admit equivariant moment maps are presented. The corresponding cohomological obstruction is computed and shown to coincide with a nontrivial Lie algebra cohomology class on $H^2(\mathfrak{X}(S^1))$.

Local Anomalies, Local Equivariant Cohomology and the Variational Bicomplex
Abstract: The locality conditions for the vanishing of local anomalies in field theory are shown to admit a geometrical interpretation in terms of local equivariant cohomology, thus providing a method to deal with the problem of locality in the geometrical approaches to the study of local anomalies based on the Atiyah-Singer index theorem. The local cohomology is shown to be related to the cohomology of j… ▽ More

Pontryagin forms on $(4k-2)$-manifolds and symplectic structures on the spaces of Riemannian metrics
Abstract: The Pontryagin forms on 1-jet bundle of Riemannian metrics, are shown to provide, in a natural way, diffeomorphism-invariant pre-symplectic structures on the space of Riemannian metrics for dimensions $n=4r-2$. The equivariant Pontryagin forms provide canonical moment maps for these structures. In dimension two, the symplectic reduction corresponding to the pre-symplectic form and its moment map… ▽ More

Equivariant characteristic classes in the bundle of connections
Abstract: The characteristic forms in the bundle of connections of a principal bundle P over M determine the characteristic classes of P for degree less or equal to the dimension of M, and differential forms on the space of connections for higher degree. The equivariant characteristic classes provide canonical equivariant extensions of this forms, and so cohomology classes in the quotient space of connect… ▽ More
