In this work, the effect of uniaxial pressure along the c axis on the electronic structure of the HTSC cuprate La2-xSrxCuO4 is investigated at the do** levels x = 0.1, 0.15, 0.25. The GTB method within the five-band p-d model framework is used to describe the electron system. The uniaxial compression leads to a significant reconstruction of the electronic structure and a change in the character of low-energy quasiparticle excitations: a large contribution of a1g symmetry orbitals appears at the top of the valence band. The crossover between the local Zhang-Rice singlet and the Emery-Reiter triplet was found at the pressure Pc = 15.1 GPa. The characteristic changes in the electronic structure under pressure occur abruptly as a result of the crossover. In particular, the top of the valence band displaces to the region around the k-point (pi,0), the Fermi contour transforms to the four pockets around (0,0),(2pi,0),(0,2pi),(2pi,2pi) and the one contour around (pi,pi).

We consider the classification of supersymmetric black hole solutions to five-dimensional STU gauged supergravity that admit torus symmetry. This reduces to a problem in toric Kähler geometry on the base space. We introduce the class of separable toric Kähler surfaces that unify product-toric, Calabi-toric and orthotoric Kähler surfaces, together with an associated class of separable 2-forms. We prove that any supersymmetric toric solution that is timelike, with a separable Kähler base space and Maxwell fields, outside a horizon with a compact (locally) spherical cross-section, must be locally isometric to the known black hole or its near-horizon geometry. An essential part of the proof is a near-horizon analysis which shows that the only possible separable Kähler base space is Calabi-toric. In particular, this also implies that our previous black hole uniqueness theorem for minimal gauged supergravity applies to the larger class of separable Kähler base spaces.

Physics of high-$T_c$ superconducting cuprates is obscured by the effect of strong electronic correlations. One way to overcome the problem is to seek for an exact solution at least within the small cluster and expand it to the whole crystal. Such an approach is in the heart of the cluster perturbation theory (CPT). Here we develop CPT for the dynamic spin and charge susceptibilities (spin-CPT and charge-CPT), within which the correlation effects are explicitly taken into account by the exact diagonalization. We apply spin-CPT and charge-CPT to the effective two-band Hubbard model for the cuprates obtained from the three-band Emery model and calculate one- and two-particle correlation functions, namely, spectral function and spin and charge susceptibilities. Do** dependence of the spin susceptibility was studied within spin-CPT and CPT-RPA that is the CPT generalization of the random phase approximation (RPA). Both methods produce the low energy response at four incommensurate wave vectors in qualitative agreement to the results of the inelastic neutron scattering on overdoped cuprates.

The magnetic and electronic structures of Fe4O5 have been investigated at ambient and high pressures via a combination of representation analysis, density functional theory (DFT+U) calculations, and Mössbauer spectroscopy. A few spin configurations corresponding to the different irreducible representations have been considered. The total-energy calculations reveal that the magnetic ground state of Fe4O5 corresponds to an orthogonal spin order. Depending on the magnetic propagation vector k two spin ordered phases with minimal energy differences are realized. The lowest energy magnetic phase is related to k = (0, 0, 0) and is characterized by the ferromagnetic ordering of the iron magnetic moments at prismatic sites along the b axis and antiferromagnetic ordering of iron moments at octahedral sites along the c axis. For the k = (1/2, 0, 0) phase, the moments in the prisms are antiferromagnetically ordered along the b axis and the moments in the octahedra are still antiferromagnetically ordered along the c axis. Under high pressure, the Fe4O5 exhibits magnetic transitions with corresponding electronic transitions of the metal-insulator type. At a critical pressure PC ~ 60 GPa the Fe ions at the octahedral sites undergo a high-spin to low-spin state crossover with a decrease in the unit-cell volume of ~ 4%, while the Fe ions at the prismatic sites remain in the high-spin state up to 130 GPa. This site-dependent magnetic collapse is experimentally observed in the transformation of Mössbauer spectra measured at room temperature and high pressures.

We consider the classification of supersymmetric AdS$_5$ black hole solutions to minimal gauged supergravity that admit a torus symmetry. This problem reduces to finding a class of toric Kähler metrics on the base space, which in symplectic coordinates are determined by a symplectic potential. We derive the general form of the symplectic potential near any component of the horizon or axis of symmetry, which determines its singular part for any black hole solution in this class, including possible new solutions such as black lenses and multi-black holes. We find that the most general known black hole solution in this context, found by Chong, Cvetic, Lü and Pope (CCLP), is described by a remarkably simple symplectic potential. We prove that any supersymmetric and toric solution that is timelike outside a smooth horizon, with a Kähler base metric of Calabi type, must be the CCLP black hole solution or its near-horizon geometry.

The effects associated with interatomic hop**s of excitons and the excitonic Bose condensate formation in the strongly correlated spin crossover systems are considered in the framework of the effective Hamiltonian for the two-band Kanamori model. The appearance of antiferromagnetic ordering due to the exciton order is found even in the absence of interatomic exchange interaction. The spectrum of excitonic excitations is calculated at various points of the "temperature vs. crystal field" phase diagram. Outside the region of exciton ordering, the spectrum has a gap, which vanishes at the boundary of the exciton condensate phase. The non-uniform spectral weight distribution over the Brillouin zone is found. The role of electron-phonon interaction is discussed as well.

Electronic structure and magnetic properties of Fe$_3$Se$_4$ are calculated using the density functional approach. Due to the metallic properties, magnetic moments of the iron atoms in two nonequivalent positions in the unit cell are different from ionic values for Fe$^{3+}$ and Fe$^{2+}$ and are equal to $M_1=2.071 μ_B$ and $M_2=-2.042 μ_B$, making the system ferrimagnetic. The total magnetic moment for the unit cell is $2.135 μ_B$. Under isotropic compression, the total magnetic moment decreases non-monotonically and correlates with the non-monotonic dependence of the density of states at the Fermi level $N(E_F)$. For 7% compression, the magnetic order changes from the ferrimagnetic to the ferromagnetic. At 14% compression, the magnetic order disappears and the total magnetic moment becomes zero, leaving the system in a paramagnetic state. This compression corresponds to the pressure of 114 GPa. The magnetic ordering changes faster upon application of an isotropic external pressure due to the sizeable anisotropy of the chemical bondings in Fe$_3$Se$_4$. The ferrimagnetic and paramagnetic states occur under pressures of 5.0 and 8.0 GPa, respectively. The system remains in the metallic state for all values of compression.

The investigations of the crystal structure, magnetic and electronic properties of the Co$_3$BO$_5$ at high temperatures were carried out using powder x-ray diffraction, magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity, and thermopower measurements. The orthorhombic symmetry (Sp.gr. Pbam) was established at 300 K and no evidence of structural phase transitions was found up to 1000 K. The thermal expansion of the crystal lattice is strongly anisotropic. At $T<T_c=550$ K, a large thermal expansion along the c-axis is observed with simultaneous contraction along a-axis. The activation energy of the conductivity decreases significantly at high temperatures and follows the thermal expansion variation, that exhibits two electronic transitions at ~500 and ~700 K, in coincidence with the anomalies of the heat capacity. Electronic transport was found to be a dominant conduction mechanism in the entire temperature range. The temperature dependence of the effective magnetic moment reflects the evolution of the spin state of Co$^{3+}$ ions towards the spin crossover to a high spin state. The interrelation between the crystal structure and electronic properties is discussed.

Nonlinearity and discreteness are two pivotal factors for an emergence of discrete breather excitations in various media. We argue that these requirements are met in the forced ferromagnetic phase of the monoaxial chiral helimagnet CrNb$_3$S$_6$ due to specific domain structure of the compound. The stationary, time-periodic breather modes appear as the discrete breather lattice solutions whose period mismatches with a system size. Thanks to easy-plane single-ion anisotropy intrinsic to CrNb$_3$S$_6$, these modes are of the dark type with frequencies lying within the linear spin-wave band, close to its bottom edge. They represent cnoidal states of magnetization, similar to the well-known soliton lattice ground state, with differing but limited number of embedded $2π$-kinks. Linear stability of these dark breather modes is verified by means of the Floquet analysis. Their energy controlled by two parameters, namely the breather lattice period and amplitude, falls off linearly with a growth of the kink number. These results may pave a new path to design spintronic resonators on the base of chiral helimagnets.

The enhanced s*-wave component of the superconducting gap against the background of the prevailing d-wave component in a narrow range of hole concentrations in the overdoped region is found. To elucidate the reasons for such unusual behavior the electronic structure of the low-energy excitations and the structure of the contributions of the pair states to the superconducting gap in momentum space were investigated at different do**. It is shown that the presence of a shallow pocket in the region of the maximum value of the s*-wave component of the gap results in different symmetry of the superconducting gap in different regions of the k-space and an increase in the s*-wave component.

Features of the phonon spectrum of a chiral crystal are examined within the micropolar elasticity theory. This formalism accounts for not only translational micromotions of a medium but also rotational ones. It is found that there appears the phonon band splitting depending on the left/right-circular polarization in a purely phonon sector without invoking any outside subsystem. The phonon spectrum reveals parity breaking while preserving time-reversal symmetry, i.e. it possesses true chirality. We find that hybridization of the micro-rotational and translational modes gives rise to the acoustic phonon branch with a "roton" minimum reminiscent of the elementary excitations in the superfluid helium-4. We argue that a mechanism of this phenomena is in line with Nozières' reinterpretation [J. Low Temp. Phys. \textbf{137}, 45 (2004)] of the rotons as a manifistation of an incipient crystallization instability. We discuss a close analogy between the translational and rotational micromotions in the micropolar elastic medium and the Bogoliubov quasiparticles and gapful density fluctuations in ${}^{4}$He.

Electron-phonon coupling, diagonal in a real space formulation, leads to polaron paradigm of smoothly varying properties. However, fundamental changes, namely the singular behavior of polarons, occur if non-diagonal pairing is involved into consideration. The study of polaron transformations and related properties of matter is of particular interest for realistic models, since competition between diagonal and non-diagonal electron-phonon contributions in the presence of other strong interactions can result in unconventional behavior of the system. Here we consider the multiband pd-model of cuprate superconductors with electron-phonon interaction and analyze the features of the systems that are caused by the competition of diagonal and non-diagonal electron-phonon contributions in the limit of strong electron correlations. Using the polaronic version of the generalized tight-binding method, we describe the evolution of the band structure, Fermi surface, density of states at Fermi level, and phonon spectral function in the space of electron-phonon parameters ranging from weak to strong coupling strength of the adiabatic limit. On the phase diagram of polaron properties we reveal two quantum phase transitions and show how electron-phonon interaction gives rise to Fermi surface transformation (i) from hole pockets to Fermi arcs and (ii) from hole to electron type of conductivity. We also demonstrate the emergence of new states in the phonon spectral function of the polaron and discuss their origin.

It is shown that evolution of the pseudogap and electronic dispersion with do** and temperature is similar and in both cases it is significantly influenced by spin-spin short-range correlations. When short-range magnetic order is weakened by do** or temperature and Hubbard-I like electronic dispersion becomes more pronounced, the Fermi arc turns into large Fermi surface and the pseudogap closes. It is demonstrated how static spin correlations impact the overall dispersion's shape and how accounting for dynamic contributions leads to momentum-dependent spectral weight at the Fermi surface and broadening effects.

We consider the case of a chiral soliton lattice subjected to uniaxial elastic strain applied perpendicular to the chiral axis and derive through analytical modelling the phase diagram of magnetic states supported in the presence of an external magnetic field. The strain induced anisotropies give rise to three distinct non-trivial spin textures, depending on the nature of the strain, and we show how these states may be identified by their signatures in Lorentz transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Experimental TEM measurements of the Fresnel contrast in a strained sample of the prototypical monoaxial chrial helimagnet CrNb$_3$S$_6$ are reported and compare well with the modelled contrast. Our results demonstrate an additional degree of freedom that may be used to tailor the magnetic properties of helimagnets for fundamental research and applications in the areas of spintronics and the emerging field of strain manipulated spintronics.

We derived simple rules for the sign of superexchange interaction based on the multielectron calculations of the superexchange interaction in the transition metal oxides that are valid both below and above spin crossover under high pressure. The superexchange interaction between two cations in d$^n$ configurations is given by a sum of individual contributions related to the electron-hole virtual excitations to the different states of the d$^{n + 1}$ and d$^{n - 1}$ configurations. Using these rules, we have analyzed the sign of the superexchange interaction of a number of oxides with magnetic cations in electron configurations from d$^2$ till d$^8$: the iron, cobalt, chromium, nickel, copper and manganese oxides with increasing pressure. The most interesting result concerns the magnetic state of cobalt and nickel oxides CoO, Ni$_2$O$_3$ and also La$_2$CoO$_4$, LaNiO$_3$ isostructural to well-known high-T$_C$ and colossal magnetoresistance materials. These oxides have a spin $\frac{1}{2}$ at the high pressure. Change of the interaction from antiferromagnetic below spin crossover to ferromagnetic above spin crossover is predicted for oxide materials with cations in d$^5$(FeBO$_3$) and d$^7$(CoO) configurations, while for materials with the other d$^n$ configurations spin crossover under high pressure does not change the sign of the superexchange interaction.

Revealing the functional sites of biological sequences, such as evolutionary conserved, structurally interacting or co-evolving protein sites, is a fundamental, and yet challenging task. Different frameworks and models were developed to approach this challenge, including Position-Specific Scoring Matrices, Markov Random Fields, Multivariate Gaussian models and most recently Autoencoders. Each of these methods has certain advantages, and while they have generated a set of insights for better biological predictions, these have been restricted to the corresponding methods and were difficult to translate to the complementary domains. Here we propose a unified framework for the above-mentioned models, that allows for interpretable transformations between the different methods and naturally incorporates the advantages and insight gained individually in the different communities. We show how, by using the unified framework, we are able to achieve state-of-the-art performance for protein structure prediction, while enhancing interpretability of the prediction process.

To study non-Heisenberg effects in the vicinity of spin crossover in strongly correlated electron systems we derive an effective low-energy Hamiltonian for the two-band Kanamori model. It contains Heisenberg high-spin term proportional to exchange constant as well as low-spin term proportional to spin gap parameter $\varepsilon_s$. Using cluster mean field theory we obtain several non-Heisenberg effects. Near critical value of spin gap $\varepsilon^c_s$ there is a magnetic phase transition of first order. In the vicinity of $\varepsilon^c_s$ in the paramagnetic phase we observe non trivial behavior of the Curie constant in the paramagnetic susceptibility in the wide range of temperature. Reentrant temperature behavior of nearest-neighbor spin-spin correlations is observed at $\varepsilon_s > \varepsilon^c_s$. Finally, pressure-temperature magnetic phase diagram for ferroperriclase is obtained using the effective Hamiltonian.

Motivated by experimental findings on the magnetic field-dependence of the resonance frequency in thin films of Cr${}$Nb$_{3} $S${}_{6}$[Goncalves et al., Phys. Rev. B95, 104415 (2017)], we examine the SSW over a chiral soliton lattice (CSL) excited by an ac magnetic field applied parallel and perpendicular to the chiral axis. For this purpose, we generalize Kittel-Pincus theories of the SSW in ferromagnetic thin films to the case of non-collinear helimagnet with the surface end spins which are softly pinned by an anisotropy field. Consequently, we found there appear two types of modes. One is a Pincus mode which is composed of a long-period Bloch wave and a short-period ripple originated from the periodic structure of the CSL. Another is a short-period Kittel ripple excited by space-periodic perturbation which exists only in the case where the ac field is applied perpendicular the chiral axis. We demonstrate that the existence of the Pincus mode and the Kittel ripple is consistent with experimentally found double resonance profile.

Molecules intercalating two-dimensional (2D) materials form complex structures that have been mostly characterized by spatially averaged techniques. Here we use aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy and density-functional-theory (DFT) calculations to study the atomic structure of bilayer graphene (BLG) and few-layer graphene (FLG) intercalated with FeCl$_3$. In BLG we discover two distinct intercalated structures that we identify as monolayer-FeCl$_3$ and monolayer-FeCl$_2$. The two structures are separated by atomically sharp boundaries and induce large but different free-carrier densities in the graphene layers, $7.1\times10^{13}$ cm$^{-2}$ and $7.1\times10^{13}$ cm$^{-2}$ respectively. In FLG, we observe multiple FeCl$_3$ layers stacked in a variety of possible configurations with respect to one another. Finally, we find that the microscope's electron beam can convert the FeCl$_3$ monolayer into FeOCl monolayers in a rectangular lattice. These results reveal the need for a combination of atomically-resolved microscopy, spectroscopy, and DFT calculations to identify intercalated structures and study their properties.

Do** and strain dependences of the electronic structure of the CuO6-octahedra layer within LDA+GTB method in the frameworks of six-band p-d model are calculated. Band structure and Fermi surface of the quasiparticle excitations in the effective Hubbard model are characterized by inhomogeneous distribution of the k-dependent spectral weight. Do** results in reconstruction of the band structure, redistribution of the spectral weight over dispersion surface and reconstruction of Fermi surface from small hole pockets in the underdoped region to large hole contour in the overdoped region through two quantum phase transitions (QPT). Strain increasing leads to displacement of the valence and conductivity bands, bandwidths decreasing and shift of the concentrations corresponding to QPTs. Strain dependences of the antiferromagnetic exchange coupling and DOS at the Fermi level determining superconducting temperature Tc are obtained. Effective exchange coupling in the equation for Tc demonstrates monotonic strain dependence.

Collective dynamics of topological magnetic textures can be thought of as a massive particle moving in a magnetic pinning potential. We demonstrate that inside a cavity resonator this effective mechanical system can feel the electromagnetic radiation pressure from cavity photons through the magneto-optical inverse Faraday and Cotton-Mouton effects. We estimate values for the effective parameters of the optomechanical coupling for two spin textures -- a Bloch domain wall and a chiral magnetic soliton lattice. The soliton lattice has magnetic chirality, so that in circularly polarized light it behaves like a chiral particle with the sign of the optomechanical coupling determined by the helicity of the light and chirality of the lattice. Most interestingly, we find a level attraction regime for the soliton lattice, which is tunable through an applied magnetic field.

In the circular photogalvanic effect, circularly polarized light can produce a direct electron photocurrent in metals and the direction of the current depends on the polarization. We suggest that an analogous nonlinear effect exists for antiferromagnetic insulators wherein the total spin of light and spin waves is conserved. In consequence, a spin angular momentum is expected to be transfered from photons to magnons so that a circularly polarized electromagnetic field will generate a direct magnon spin current. The direction of the current is determined by the helicity of the light. We show that this resonant effect appears as a second order light-matter interaction. We find also a geometric contribution to the spin photocurrent, which appears for materials with complex lattice structures and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions.

The XMCD measurements at the \emph{L}$_{2,3}$-edges of Ho and Nd, and at the Fe \emph{K}-edge have been performed at \emph{T}=2~K under a magnetic field up to 17~T applied along the trigonal \emph{c}-axis as well as in the basal \emph{ab}-plane. All three magnetic sublattices are shown to undergo a spin-reorientation transition under magnetic field applied along the \emph{c}-axis. On the contrary, when magnetic field is applied in the \emph{ab}-plane only the holmium atoms exhibit a magnetization jump. Thus, the element-specific magnetization curves revealed the Ho sublattice to be much stronger coupled to the Fe one than the Nd sublattice. The results demonstrate that the Ho$^{3+}$ subsystem plays even more dominant role in magnetic behavior of Ho$_{0.5}$Nd$_{0.5}$Fe$_{3}$(BO$_{3}$)$_{4}$ crystal than in pure HoFe$_{3}$(BO$_{3}$)$_{4}$ crystal.

In the framework of cluster perturbation theory for the 2D Hubbard and Hubbard-Holstein models at low hole do** we have studied the effect of local and short-range correlations in strongly correlated systems on the anomalous features in the electronic spectrum by investigating the fine structure of quasiparticle bands. Different anomalous features of spectrum are obtained as the result of intrinsic properties of strongly correlated electron and polaron bands in the presence of short-range correlations. Particularly, features similar to the electron-like Fermi-pockets of cuprates at hole do** $p\sim0.1$ are obtained without ad hoc introducing a charge density wave order parameter within the Hubbard model in a unified manner with other known peculiarities of the pseudogap phase like Fermi-arcs, pockets, waterfalls, and kink-like features. The Fermi surface is mainly formed by dispersive quasiparticle bands with large spectral weight, formed by coherent low-energy exications. Within the Hubbard-Holstein model at moderate phonon frequencies we show that modest values of local electron-phonon interaction are capable of introducing low-energy kink-like features and affecting the Fermi surface by hybridization of the fermionic quasiparticle bands with the Franck-Condon resonances.

We study magnetoelastic resonance phenomena in a mono-axial chiral helimagnet belonging to hexagonal crystal class. By computing the spectrum of coupled elastic wave and spin wave, it is demonstrated how hybridization occurs depending on their chirality. Specific features of the magnetoelastic resonance are discussed for the conical phase and the soliton lattice phase stabilized in the mono-axial chiral helimagnet. The former phase exhibits appreciable non-reciprocity of the spectrum, the latter is characterized by a multi-resonance behavior. We propose that the non-reciprocal spin wave around the forced-ferromagnetic state has potential capability to convert the linearly polarized elastic wave to circularly polarized one with the chirality opposite to the spin wave chirality.

As first demonstrated by Tang and Cohen in chiral optics, the asymmetry in the rate of electromagnetic energy absorption between left and right enantiomers is determined by an optical chirality density [1]. Here, we demonstrate that this effect can exist in magnetic spin systems. By constructing a formal analogy with electrodynamics, we show that in antiferromagnets with broken chiral symmetry the asymmetry in local spin-wave energy absorption is proportional to a spin-wave chirality density, which is a direct counterpart of optical zilch. We propose that injection of a pure spin current into an antiferromagnet may serve as a chiral symmetry breaking mechanism, since its effect in the spin-wave approximation can be expressed in terms of additional Lifshitz invariants. We use linear response theory to show that the spin current induces a nonequilibrium spin-wave chirality density.

A possibility of the topological Kosterlitz-Thouless~(KT) transition in the Pokrovsky-Talapov~(PT) model is investigated by using the functional renormalization-group (RG) approach by Wetterich. Our main finding is that the nonzero misfit parameter of the model, which can be related with the linear gradient term (Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction), makes such a transition impossible, what contradicts the previous consideration of this problem by non-perturbative RG methods. To support the conclusion the initial PT model is reformulated in terms of the 2D theory of relativistic fermions using an analogy between the 2D sine-Gordon and the massive Thirring models. In the new formalism the misfit parameter corresponds to an effective gauge field that enables to include it in the RG procedure on an equal footing with the other parameters of the theory. The Wetterich equation is applied to obtain flow equations for the parameters of the new fermionic action. We demonstrate that these equations reproduce the KT type of behavior if the misfit parameter is zero. However, any small nonzero value of the quantity rules out a possibility of the KT transition. To confirm the finding we develop a description of the problem in terms of the 2D Coulomb gas model. Within the approach the breakdown of the KT scenario gains a transparent meaning, the misfit gives rise to an effective in-plane electric field that prevents a formation of bound vortex-antivortex pairs.

Within this approach the electronic structure is formed by polaronic quasiparticles constructed as excitations between initial and final polaronic multielectron states. Do** and temperature effects are taken into account by occupation numbers of local excited polaronic states and variations in the magnitude of spin-spin correlation functions. Both effects are manifested in the reconstruction of band structure, Fermi contours, density of states and redistribution of the spectral weight over the Hubbard polaron subbands. Do** leads to transformation of Fermi contour from small hole pockets around k=(pi/2,pi/2) with inhomogeneous spectral weight distribution at small hole concentration to large contour around k=(pi,pi) in the overdoped compound as a result of two quantum phase transitions. In the system with phonon subsystem and EPI do** results in the top of the valence band splitting off and new polaron subbands appearance. Temperature increasing in the system with doped holes and moderate EPI leads to formation of the flatband around k=(pi,pi) and transfer of the spectral weight to the splitted off top of the valence band.

It is shown that single-ion mechanism of spin crossover under change of the crystal field does not lead to a thermodynamic phase transition, however, at T = 0 a quantum phase transition appears. It has been found that the cooperativity leads to a modification of the quantum phase transition to a first-order phase transition and the appearance of metastable states of the system. We suggest here the method of the map** of DFT calculations on the multiorbital model in a following way: the parameters of the formulated multiorbital model should be determined from the requirement that the self-consistent charge and spin densities found from the ab initio and model calculations have to be as close to each other as possible. The analysis of the model allows for detailed understanding of the role played by different parameters of the model in the physics of interest. As an example of the approach we present the study of the effect of silicon atoms substitution by the iron atoms and vice versa on the magnetic properties in the iron silicide alpha-FeSi2. The DFT+GGA calculations are mapped to the model with intraatomic Coulomb and exchange interactions, hop**s to nearest and next nearest atoms and exchange of the delocalized electrons between iron atoms; the magnetic moments on atoms and charge densities of the material are found self-consistently within the Hartree-Fock approximation. We find that while the stoichiometric alpha-FeSi2 is nonmagnetic, the substitutions generate different magnetic structures. For example, the substitution of three Si atoms by the Fe atoms results in the ferrimagnetic structure whereas the substitution of four Si atoms by Fe atoms gives rise to either the nonmagnetic or the ferromagnetic state depending on the type of local enviroment of the substitutional Fe atoms. Besides, contrary to the commonly accepted statement that the destruction of the magnetic moment is controlled only by the number of Fe-Si nearest neighbors, we find that actually it is controlled by the Fe-Fe next-nearest-neighbors. This finding led us to the counterintuitive conclusion: an increase of Si concentration in Fe1-xSi2+x ordered alloys may lead to a ferromagnetism. This conclusion is confirmed by the calculation within GGA-to-DFT.

Our analysis is based on the formalism of nongeometric symmetries of Maxwell's equations in vacuum generalized to material media with given constituent relations. This approach enables us to derive directly conservation laws related to the nongeometric symmetries. For isotropic chiral media, we demonstrate that likewise free electromagnetic field, both duality and helicity generators belong to the basis set of nongeometric symmetries that guarantees the conservation of optical chirality. In gyrotropic crystals, which exhibit natural optical activity, the situation is quite different from the case of isotropic media. For light propagating along certain crystallographic direction, there arise two distinct cases, i.~e., (1) the duality is broken but the helicity is preserved, or (2) only the duality symmetry survives. We show that the existence of one of these symmetries (duality or helicity) is enough to define optical chirality. In addition, we present examples of low-symmetry media, where optical chirality can not be defined.

The effect of local environment on the formation of magnetic moments on Fe atoms in iron silicides are studied by combination of ab initio and model calculations. The suggested model includes all Fe d- and Si p-orbitals, intra-atomic Coulomb interactions, inter-atomic Fe-Fe exchange and hop** of electrons to nearest and next nearest neighboring atoms and takes into account all symmetries within the Slater-Koster scheme. The parameters of the model are found from the requirement that self-consistent moments on atoms and density of states found from ab initio and model calculations within the Hartree-Fock approximation are close to each other as much as possible. Contrary to the commonly accepted statement that an increase of the Si concentration within nearest environment of Fe atoms in the ordered Fe3Si and FexSi1-x alloys leads to a decrease of Fe magnetic moment we find that a crucial role in the formation of magnetic moments is played by second coordination sphere of Fe atoms. Particularly, the Fe atoms have higher magnetic moments in amorphous films compared to the epitaxial ones due to decrease in the number of iron-atoms in the next nearest environment. Both our model and ab initio calculations confirm existence of known spin crossover with pressure and predict second crossover at higher pressure

A single nonholonomic under-actuated mobile robot with a bounded control range travels in a 3D workspace. This workspace also hosts a compact unknown domain with a smooth boundary. The robot has access to the horizontal distance to this domain and to a certain direction (typically, vertical) in the space, along with its coordinate (typically, altitude) in this direction. We present a new navigation law that drives the robot to the desired distance to the domain and ensures subsequent full scan of its surface within a desired range of "altitudes". The proposed strategy is computationally inexpensive and achieves full scan at the lowest control level via generating the current control as a simple, reflex-like reaction to the current observation. The paper presents and proves key technical facts underlying mathematically rigorous analysis and justification of the proposed guidance approach.

We use the cell perturbation theory with exact diagonalization of the multiband pd Hamiltonian inside each CuO6 unit cell and treating the intercell hop** as perturbation. To incorporate effect of optical pum** we include in this work the excited singlehole local states as well as all two-hole singlets and triplets. By projecting out the interband intercell electron hop** we have obtained the effective Heisenberg-like Hamiltonian with the local spin at site Ri being a superposition of the ground and excited single-hole states. We found that antiferromagnetic contribution to the exchange energy in La214 will increase in accordance to ~ 4*10_{-3} eV /(%) at the resonance light occupation of the excited single hole in-gap state.

The zero temperature phase diagram of the mono-axial chiral helimagnet in the magnetic field plane formed by the components parallel and perpendicular to the helical axis is thoroughly analyzed. The nature of the transition to the commensurate state depends on the angle between the field and the helical axis. For field directions close to the directions parallel or perpendicular to the helical axis the transition is continuous, while for intermediate angles the transition is discontinuous and the incommensurate and commensurate states coexist on the transition line. The continuous and discontinuous transition lines are separated by two tricritical points with specific singular behaviour. The location of the continuous and discontinuous lines and of the tricritical points depend strongly on the easy-plane anisotropy, the effect of which is analyzed. For large anisotropy the conical approximation locates the transition line very accurately, although it does not predict the continuous transitions nor the tricitical behaviour. It is shown that for large anisotropy, as in CrNb3S6, the form of the transition line is universal, that is, independent of the sample, and obeys a simple equation. The position of the tricritical points, which is not universal, is theoretically estimated for a sample of CrNb3S6

The multielectron LDA+GTB approach has been developed to calculate electronic structure of strongly correlated cuprates. At low energies the effective Hamiltonian of the $t - t' - t" - {t_ \bot } - {J^ * } - {J_ \bot }$-model has been derived with parameters coming from the ab initio calculation for LSCO. The electronic structure of LSCO has been calculated self-consistently with the short-range antiferromagnetic order for various do** level. Two Lifshitz-type quantum phase transitions with Fermi surface topology changes have been found at do**s $x_{c1}=0.15$ and $x_{c2}=0.24$. Its effect on normal and superconducting properties has been calculated. The interatomic exchange parameter and its pressure dependence has been calculated within LDA+GTB scheme. The magnetic mechanisms of d-wave pairing induced by static and dynamical spin correlations are discussed. Simultaneous treatment of magnetic and phonon pairing results in the conclusion that both contributions are of the same order. For two layer cuprates like YBCO the interlayer hop** and exchange effects on the electronic structure and do** dependence of $T_c$ is discussed as well as the Coulomb interaction induced mechanism of pairing.

The three band p-d model of strongly correlated electrons interacting with optical phonon via diagonal and off-diagonal electron-phonon interaction is considered within cluster perturbation theory. At first step the exact diagonalization of the Hamiltonian of CuO4 cluster results in the construction of local polaronic eigenstates |p> with hole numbers nh=0,1,2 per unit cell. The inter cluster hop**s and interactions are exactly written in terms of Hubbard operators X(pq)= |p><q| determined within the multielectron polaronic eigenstates |p>. The Fermi type single electron quasiparticle dispersion and spectral weight are calculated for the undoped antiferromagnetic parent insulator like La2CuO4. The quasiparticle dispersion of Hubbard polarons is determined by a hybridization of the several Hubbard subbands with local Franck-Condon resonances. For small electron-phonon interaction the conductivity band is stronger renormalized then the valence band. Nevertheless for large electron-phonon interaction both bands are strongly renormalized with quasiparticle localization. Effect of partial compensation of diagonal and off-diagonal electron-phonon interaction at intermediate coupling is found.

Magnetic properties of heterometallic warwickites $MgFeBO_4$, $Mg_{0.5}Co_{0.5}FeBO_4$, and $CoFeBO_4$ are presented, highlighting the effect of Co substitution on the magnetic properties of these compounds. The analysis of magnetization and heat capacity data has shown that these compounds exhibit a spin-glass transition below $T_{SG}$=10, 20 and 22 K, respectively. Using zero field ac susceptibility as entanglement witness we find that the low dimensional magnetic behavior above $T_{SG}$ show quantum entanglement behavior $χ(T)\varpropto T^{-α(T)}$ up to $T_E$ = 130K. The $α$ parameters have been deduced as a function of temperature and Co, indicating the existence of random singlet phase in this temperature region. Above $T_E$ the paramagnetism is interpreted in terms of non-entangled spins giving rise to Curie-Weiss paramagnetism. The different intra- and inter-ribbon exchange interaction pathways have been calculated within a simple indirect coupling model. It is determined that the triangular motifs in the warwickite structure, together with the competing interactions, induce frustration. The spin-glass character is explained in terms of the substitutional disorder of the Mg, Fe and Co atoms at the two available crystallographic sites, and the frustration induced by the competing interactions. The Co substitution induces uniaxial anisotropy along the b axis, increases the absolute magnetization and increases the spin-glass freezing temperature. The entanglement behavior is supported in the intermediate phase irrespective of the introduction of anisotropy by the Co substitution.

We consider a single non-holonomic Dubins-like robot traveling with a constant longitudinal speed in an a priori unknown and unsteady planar environment. The robot should detect, locate, and track the boundary of a dynamic environmental scalar field. The field is measured by an on-board sensor in a point-wise fashion at the robot's location. The focus is on unsteady boundaries that evolve over time in an arbitrary fashion, including deformations, i.e., changes of shapes and sizes. We present a sliding mode control method for localizing and tracking such boundaries: the robot is steered to the boundary and circulates in its close proximity afterwards. The proposed control algorithm does not require estimation of the spatial gradient of the field and is non-demanding with respect to both computation and motion. The paper offers the proofs of technical facts required for rigorous justification of non-local convergence of the proposed control law, as well as theoretical illustrations of its performance in specific scenarios.
