We analyze the nature of the modulated magnetic states in a micromagnetic model for the monoaxial chiral magnet MnNb$_3$S$_6$ for which the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and the dipolar interaction compete evenly. We show that the interplay between these interactions lead to a complex phase diagram including ferromagnetic states, fan-like states, in-plane stripes patterns and chiral soliton lattices. In particular, stripe patterns and chiral soliton lattices comprise non-trivial topological states with fixed chirality. The obtained phase diagram exhibits strong dependency on the thickness and on the strength of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. Our results can help to understand the magnetic properties of systems such as MnNb$_3$S$_6$.

At low temperature and zero applied magnetic field, besides the equilibrium helical state, monoaxial chiral helimagnets have a continuum of helical states differing by the wave number of the modulation. The wave number of these states in units of the equilibrium state wave number is denoted here by p, and accordingly the corresponding states are called the p-states. In this work we study in detail the metastability of the p-states. The application of an external magnetic field in the direction of the chiral axis has a double effect: on one hand, it introduces a conical deformation of the p-states, and on the other hand it destabilizes some of them, shrinking the range of p in which the p-states are metastable. If a polarized current is applied along the chiral axis, the p-states reach a steady moving state with a constant velocity proportional to the current intensity. Besides this dynamical effect, the polarized current also induces a conical deformation and reduces the range of stability of the p-states. The stability diagram in the plane applied field - applied current intensity has interesting features that, among other things, permit the manipulation of p-states by a combination of applied fields and currents. These features can be exploited to devise processes to switch between p-states. In particular there are p-states with negative p, opening the possibility to helicity switching. The theoretical feasibility of such processes, crucial from the point of view of applications, is shown by micromagnetic simulations. Analogous $p$-states exists in cubic chiral helimagnets and therefore similar effects are expected in those systems.

Spin polarized currents originate a spin-transfer torque that enables the manipulation of magnetic textures. Here we theoretically study the effect of a spin-polarized current on the magnetic texture corresponding to a chiral soliton lattice in a monoaxial helimagnet under a transverse magnetic field. At sufficiently small current density the chiral soliton lattice reaches a steady motion state with a velocity proportional to the intensity of the applied current, the mobility being independent of the density of solitons and the magnetic field. This motion is accompanied with a small conical distortion of the chiral soliton lattice. At large current density the spin-transfer torque destabilizes the chiral soliton lattice, driving the system to a ferromagnetic state parallel to the magnetic field. We analyze how the deformation of the chiral soliton lattice depends on the applied current density. The destruction of the chiral soliton lattice under current could serve as a possible erasure mechanisms for spintronic applications.

We study the anomalous Hall effect on the antiferromagnetic coloring-triangular lattice with a coplanar magnetic configuration in presence of a spin-orbit interaction. The effect of the spin-orbit coupling is included at effective level as a rotation of the electronic spin as the electrons hop from site to site. Our result reveals that a finite Hall conductivity in the planar 120$^{\circ}$ structure takes place if a finite spin-orbit coupling is present. A quantized Hall conductivity occurs at global band gaps resulting from the topologically non-trivial band structure.

The crystal structure and magnetic correlations in triangular antiferromagnet FeGa$_2$S$_4$ are studied by x-ray diffraction, magnetic susceptibility, neutron diffraction and neutron inelastic scattering. We report significant mixing at the cation sites and disentangle magnetic properties dominated by major and minor magnetic sites. The magnetic short-range correlations at 0.77 Å$^{-1}$ correspond to the major sites and being static at base temperature they evolve into dynamic correlations around 30 - 50 K. The minor sites contribute to the magnetic peak at 0.6 Å$^{-1}$, which vanishes at 5.5 K. Our analytical studies of triangular lattice models with bilinear and biquadratic terms provide the ratios between exchanges for the proposed ordering vectors. The modelling of the inelastic neutron spectrum within linear spin wave theory results in the set of exchange couplings $J_1=1.7$\,meV, $J_2=0.9$\,meV, $J_3=0.8$\,meV for the bilinear Heisenberg Hamiltonian. However, not all features of the excitation spectrum are explained with this model.

Swirling topological spin configurations, known as magnetic skyrmions, are known to be stabilised in chiral ferromagnets with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). In particular, for appropriate values of the external magnetic field they appear in a topological crystalline phase, termed Skyrmion crystal phase (SkX). A similar phenomenon is present in the antiferromagnetic case, for the Heisenberg triangular antiferromagnet (HTAF) with DMI. Here, the most striking feature is that the emergent topological phase consists of three SkX interpenetrated sublattices. On the other hand, the pure HTAF, being described by an SO(3) order parameter, can host Z2 vortices. This rises the fundamental question on whether both non trivial structures are related. In this paper we unravel a hidden connection between both topological entities by studying the HTAF with anisotropic DMI. To this end, we combine an effective field theory description, the Luttinger-Tisza approximation and Monte Carlo simulations. We show that even a slight anisotropy in the DMI proves to be the key ingredient to deform the interpenetrated SkX structure and reveal a Z2-vortex crystal.

Magnetic skyrmions, topological spin textures observed in chiral magnets, have attracted huge interest due to their applications in the field of spintronics. In this work we study the stability of circular isolated skyrmions in ferromagnetic chiral magnets under the influence of different perturbations and external fields. To this end we develop a general systematic procedure based in a harmonic expansion series of the skyrmion boundary which allows the identifycation of the breakdown of the skyrmion circular shape on each instability channel independently. We apply our approach to a few representative spin models with actual interest in order to obtain the zero temperature phase diagram, where isolated skyrmions emerge as metaestable states. The results presented in this paper are in agreement with properties of isolated skyrmions observed in recent experiments opening the possibility of extending the analysis to more complex situations.

We study the classical antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on the triangular lattice with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions in a magnetic field. We focus in particular in the emergence of a composite spin crystal phase, dubbed antiferromagnetic skyrmion lattice, that was recently observed in [Phys. Rev. B 92, 214439 (2015)] for intermediate fields. This complex phase can be made up from three inter-penetrated skyrmion lattices, one for each sub-lattice of the original triangular one. Following these recent numerical results, in this paper we explicitly construct the low-energy effective action that reproduces the correct phenomenology and could serve as a starting point to study the coupling to charge carriers, lattice vibrations, structural disorder and transport phenomena.
