The observable diameter of metric measure spaces and the existence of points of positive measures
Authors:
Shun Oshima
Abstract:
A metric measure space is a metric space with a Borel measure. In Gromov's theory of metric measure spaces, there are important invariants called the partial diameter and the observable diameter. We obtain the result that the partial diameter or the observable diameter equals zero if and only if there exists a point that has positive measure.

Holographic information hiding is a technique for embedding holograms or images into another hologram, used for copyright protection and steganography of holograms. Using deep neural networks, we offer a way to improve the visual quality of embedded holograms. The brightness of an embedded hologram is set to a fraction of that of the host hologram, resulting in a barely damaged reconstructed image of the host hologram. However, it is difficult to perceive because the embedded hologram's reconstructed image is darker than the reconstructed host image. In this study, we use deep neural networks to restore the darkened image.

We use methods from Riemann geometry to investigate transformations between the color spaces of color-normal and color weak observers. The two main applications are the simulation of the perception of a color weak observer for a color normal observer and the compensation of color images in a way that a color weak observer has approximately the same perception as a color normal observer. The metrics in the color spaces of interest are characterized with the help of ellipsoids defined by the just-noticable-differences between color which are measured with the help of color-matching experiments. The constructed map**s are isometries of Riemann spaces that preserve the perceived color-differences for both observers. Among the two approaches to build such an isometry, we introduce normal coordinates in Riemann spaces as a tool to construct a global color-weak compensation map. Compared to previously used methods this method is free from approximation errors due to local linearizations and it avoids the problem of shifting locations of the origin of the local coordinate system. We analyse the variations of the Riemann metrics for different observers obtained from new color matching experiments and describe three variations of the basic method. The performance of the methods is evaluated with the help of semantic differential (SD) tests.

We carefully calculate the nucleon-nucleon interaction due to two pion exchange processes by properly evaluating the corresponding Feynman diagrams. In the estimation, we have made no approximation, and instead, we carry out the numerical integrations of three Feynman parameters. It is found that the two pion exchange potential gives rise to the attractive force which corresponds to the effective scalar meson with its mass of $m_s\simeq 4.7 m_π$ and its strength of ${g_s^2\over 4π}\simeq 1.45 $. There is a strong isospin dependence of $(\bmτ_1\cdot \bmτ_2)^2 $ which cannot be simulated by the one boson exchange model calculations.

We derive a new relation between the observed Lamb shift energies of hydrogen and muonium atoms. The relation is based on the non-relativistic description of the Lamb shift, and the proper treatment of the reduced mass of electron and target particles (proton and muon) leads to the new formula which is expressed as $\displaystyle{{ΔE^{(H)}_{2s_{1/2}}\over ΔE^{(μ)}_{2s_{1/2}}} =({1+{m_e\over m_μ}\over 1+{m_e\over M_p}})^3}$. This relation achieves an excellent agreement with experiment and presents an important QED test free from the cutoff momentum $Λ$.

We examine the vacuum polarization contribution in the renormalization scheme of QED. Normally, the quadratic divergence term is discarded under the condition that the counter term of the Lagrangian density should be gauge invariant. Here, it is shown that the whole contribution of the photon self-energy should not be considered for the renormalization procedure. In fact, the finite contribution of the renormalization in the vacuum polarization is shown to give rise to the hyperfine splitting energy which disagrees with the experimental observation in hydrogen atom. For the treatment of the vacuum polarization, we present a new renormalization scheme of the photon self-energy diagram.

For the excitation energy of 7940 eV, the observed Fermi energy of Al shows a remarkable shift to higher binding energy as compared with that of Au, with accompanying broadening. This is due to the recoil effect of the emitted photoelectrons. The observed spectra are well reproduced by a simple model of Bloch electrons based on the isotropic Debye model.

The scalar field is shown to be a complex field due to the condition of possessing a proper non-relativistic limit. Like the Schrödinger field, one component complex Klein-Gordon field corresponds to a boson with one flavor, and therefore there exists no physical real scalar field. As a good example, we present the Schwinger model Hamiltonian which is naturally described by the complex scalar field with one flavor. The non-existence of the real scalar field indicates that the Higgs mechanism should be reconsidered.

A scalar field has only one component, and there is no freedom left for an anti-particle since the Klein-Gordon equation failed to take the negative energy solution into account. This is in contrast to the Dirac equation which has four components of fields. It is shown that the current density for a real scalar field is always zero if the field is classical, but infinite if the field is quantized. This suggests that the condition of a real field must be physically too strong.

We discuss the gauge invariance of quark-quark potential in QCD in the perturbative treatment, and show that the gauge dependence of the quark-gluon interaction cannot be eliminated. Therefore, the quark-quark potential cannot properly be written in terms of physical variables in the perturbation theory. This is in contrast to the QED case in which the gauge invariance of the electron-photon interaction is guaranteed by the current conservation. As an example, we show that the different choices of the gauge fixing give different Coulomb interactions when the fermion current is not conserved. Also, we examine a possible existence of $QG-$state (one quark$-$one gluon) corresponding to the conserved color current, which should have a fractional electric charge.

The nucleon EDM is shown to be directly related to the EDM of atomic systems.
From the observed EDM values of the atomic Hg system, the neutron EDM can be extracted, which gives a very stringent constraint on the supersymmetry parameters. It is also shown that the measurement of Nitrogen and Thallium atomic systems should provide important information on the flavor dependence of the quark EDM. We perform numerical analyses on the EDM of neutron, proton and electron in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with CP-violating phases. We demonstrate that the new limit on the neutron EDM extracted from atomic systems excludes a wide parameter region of supersymmetry breaking masses above 1 TeV, while the old limit excludes only a small mass region below 1 TeV.

We carry out the microscopic calculations of the atomic EDM in deuterium, Xe and Hg atomic systems. Due to Schiff's theorem, we obtain the atomic EDM only from the finite nuclear size effects, but it is found that the atomic EDM is appreciably larger than expected. This is essentially due to the new mechanism in which the nuclear excitations are taken into account while atomic states stay in the ground state. The EDM of deuterium is found to be $d_D \simeq 0.017 d_n$ while the EDM of Xe and Hg become $d_{\rm Xe} \simeq 1.6 d_n$ and $d_{\rm Hg} \simeq -2.8 d_n$, respectively. It turns out that the new constraint on the neutron EDM becomes $d_n \simeq (0.37\pm 0.17 \pm 0.14)\times 10^{-28} {\rm e}\cdot {\rm cm}$.
