ODEs and Mandatory Voting
Abstract: This paper presents mathematics relevant to the question whether voting should be mandatory. Assuming a static distribution of voters' political beliefs, we model how politicians might adjust their positions to raise their share of the vote. Various scenarios can be explored using our web-based app (see text for the link). Abstentions are found to have great impact on the dynamics of candidates, a… ▽ More

Holistic Evaluation of Language Models
Abstract: Language models (LMs) are becoming the foundation for almost all major language technologies, but their capabilities, limitations, and risks are not well understood. Ask Me Anything: A simple strategy for prompting language models
Abstract: Large language models (LLMs) transfer well to new tasks out-of-the-box simply given a natural language prompt that demonstrates how to perform the task and no additional training. Prompting is a brittle process wherein small modifications to the prompt can cause large variations in the model predictions, and therefore significant effort is dedicated towards designing a painstakingly "perfect promp… ▽ More

High-Purity Entanglement of Hot Propagating Modes Using Nonreciprocity
Abstract: Distributed quantum information processing and communication protocols demand the ability to generate entanglement among propagating modes. Can Foundation Models Wrangle Your Data?
Abstract: Foundation Models (FMs) are models trained on large corpora of data that, at very large scale, can generalize to new tasks without any task-specific finetuning. As these models continue to grow in size, innovations continue to push the boundaries of what these models can do on language and image tasks. This paper aims to understand an underexplored area of FMs: classical data tasks like cleaning a… ▽ More

Cross-Domain Data Integration for Named Entity Disambiguation in Biomedical Text

Gluon Radiation in Top Production and Decay
Abstract: We present the results of an exact calculation of gluon radiation in top production and decay at high energy electron-positron colliders. We include all spin correlations and interferences, the bottom quark mass, and finite top width effects in the matrix element calculation. We study properties of the radiated gluons and implications for top mass measurement.

A Monte Carlo for BFKL Physics
Abstract: Virtual photon scattering in e^+e^- collisions can result in events with the electron-positron pair at large rapidity separation with hadronic activity in between. The BFKL equation resums large logarithms that dominate the cross section for this process. We report here on a Monte Carlo method for solving the BFKL equation that allows kinematic constraints to be taken into account. The applicati… ▽ More

BFKL dynamics at hadron colliders
Abstract: Hadron colliders can provide important tests of BFKL `small-x' dynamics. We discuss two examples of such tests, the inclusive dijet jet cross section at large rapidity separation and the number of associated `mini-jets' in Higgs boson production.

Lepton - Chargino Mixing and R-Parity Violating SUSY
Abstract: We present a study of charged lepton mass matrix diagonalization in R-parity violating SUSY. The case in which the bilinear couplings $μ_i$ have large values is given special attention.

Top and gluons at lepton colliders
Abstract: In this talk we present results of an exact calculation of gluon radiation in top production and decay at lepton colliders, including all spin correlations and interferences. We compare properties of gluons radiated in the production and decay stages and investigate the sensitivity of interference effects to the top decay width.

Could the $τ$ be substantially different from $e$ and $μ$ in the supersymmetric standard model?
Abstract: R-parity stands as an ad hoc assumption in the most popular version of the supersymmetric standard model. More than fifteen years' studies of R-parity violations have been restricted to various limiting scenarios. We illustrate how the single-VEV parametrization provides a workable framework to analyze the phenomenology of the complete theory of supersymmetry without R-parity. In our comprehensi… ▽ More

Supersymmetry without R-parity : Constraints from Leptonic Phenomenology
Abstract: R-parity conservation is an {\it ad hoc} assumption in the most popular version of the supersymmetric standard model. Most studies of models which do allow for R-parity violation have been restricted to various limiting scenarios. The single-VEV parametrization used in this paper provides a workable framework to analyze phenomenology of the most general theory of SUSY without R-parity. We perfor… ▽ More
