We define a tautological projection operator for algebraic cycle classes on the moduli space of principally polarized abelian varieties $\mathcal{A}_g$: every cycle class decomposes canonically as a sum of a tautological and a non-tautological part. The main new result required for the definition of the projection operator is the vanishing of the top Chern class of the Hodge bundle over the boundary $\bar{\mathcal{A}}_g\smallsetminus \mathcal{A}_g$ of any toroidal compactification $\bar{\mathcal{A}}_g$ of the moduli space $\mathcal{A}_g$. We prove the vanishing by a careful study of residues in the boundary geometry.
The existence of the projection operator raises many natural questions about cycles on $\mathcal{A}_g$. We calculate the projections of all product cycles $\mathcal{A}_{g_1}\times \ldots \times \mathcal{A}_{g_\ell}$ in terms of Schur determinants, discuss Faber's earlier calculations related to the Torelli locus, and state several open questions. The Appendix contains a conjecture about the projection of the locus of abelian varieties with real multiplication.

The family of cubic noncentrosymmetric 3-4-3 compounds has become a fertile ground for the discovery of novel correlated metallic and insulating phases. Here, we report the synthesis of a new heavy fermion compound, Ce$_3$Bi$_4$Ni$_3$. It is an isoelectronic analog of the prototypical Kondo insulator Ce$_3$Bi$_4$Pt$_3$ and of the recently discovered Weyl-Kondo semimetal Ce$_3$Bi$_4$Pd$_3$. In contrast to the volume-preserving Pt-Pd substitution, structural and chemical analyses reveal a positive chemical pressure effect in Ce$_3$Bi$_4$Ni$_3$ relative to its heavier counterparts. Based on the results of electrical resistivity, Hall effect, magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat measurements, we identify an energy gap of 65-70 meV, about eight times larger than that in Ce$_3$Bi$_4$Pt$_3$ and about 45 times larger than that of the Kondo-insulating background hosting the Weyl nodes in Ce$_3$Bi$_4$Pd$_3$. We show that this gap as well as other physical properties do not evolve monotonically with increasing atomic number, i.e., in the sequence Ce$_3$Bi$_4$Ni$_3$-Ce$_3$Bi$_4$Pd$_3$-Ce$_3$Bi$_4$Pt$_3$, but instead with increasing partial electronic density of states of the $d$ orbitals at the Fermi energy. To understand under which condition topological states form in these materials is a topic for future studies.

Excited states in molecules can be difficult to investigate and generally require methods that are either computationally expensive or are not universally accurate. Recent research has focused on using higher-energy Slater determinants as mean-field representations of excited states, which can then be used to define reference states for electron correlation techniques such as Møller-Plesset theory. However, the convergence behaviour of these excited-state perturbation series has not yet been explored, limiting our understanding into the systematic improvability and reliability of such methods. Here, we present a systematic analysis of the Møller-Plesset perturbation series for closed-shell excited states using higher-energy reference determinants identified with, and without, state-specific orbital optimisation. We combine numerical calculations with complex analysis to show that the excited-state Møller-Plesset theory diverges almost universally for the stereotypical $\mathrm{H}_2$, $\mathrm{H}_2\mathrm{O}$, and $\mathrm{CH}_2$ molecules. Our results cast doubt on the suitability of higher-energy Slater determinants as reference states for perturbative treatments of electron correlation.

We study virtual invariants of Quot schemes parametrizing quotients of dimension at most 1 of the trivial sheaf of rank N on nonsingular projective surfaces. We conjecture that the generating series of virtual K-theoretic invariants are given by rational functions. We prove rationality for several geometries including punctual quotients for all smooth projective surfaces and dimension 1 quotients for surfaces X with p_g>0. We also show that the generating series of virtual cobordism classes can be irrational.
Given a K-theory class on X of rank r, we associate natural series of virtual Segre and Verlinde numbers. We show that the Segre and Verlinde series match in the following three cases: Quot schemes of dimension 0 quotients, Hilbert schemes of points and curves over surfaces with p_g>0, Quot schemes of minimal elliptic surfaces for quotients supported on fiber classes. Moreover, for punctual quotients of the trivial sheaf of rank N, we prove a new symmetry of the Segre/Verlinde series exchanging r and N. The Segre/Verlinde statements have analogues for punctual Quot schemes over curves.

The virtual Euler characteristics of Quot schemes of surfaces, a new theory parallel to the Vafa-Witten Euler characteristics of the moduli of bundles, is defined and studied. Complete formulas for the virtual Euler characteristics are found in the case of dimension 0 quotients on surfaces. Dimension 1 quotients are studied on K3 surfaces and surfaces of general type with connections to the Kawai-Yoshioka formula and the Seiberg-Witten invariants respectively. The dimension 1 theory is completely solved for minimal surfaces of general type admitting a nonsingular canonical curve. Along the way, we find a new connection between weighted tree counting and multivariate Fuss-Catalan numbers which is of independent interest.

Let S be a smooth projective surface equipped with a line bundle H. Lehn's conjecture is a formula for the top Segre class of the tautological bundle associated to H on the Hilbert scheme of points of S. Voisin has recently reduced Lehn's conjecture to the vanishing of certain coefficients of special power series. The first result of this short note is a proof of the vanishings required by Voisin by residue calculations (A. Szenes and M. Vergne have independently found the same proof). Our second result is an elementary solution of the parallel question for the top Segre class on the symmetric power of a smooth projective curve C associated to a higher rank vector bundle V on C. Finally, we propose a complete conjecture for the top Segre class on the Hilbert scheme of points of S associated to a higher rank vector bundle on S in the K-trivial case.

We derive relations among the Segre classes via equivariant localization of the virtual fundamental classes of Quot schemes on X. The resulting recursions are then solved explicitly. The formula proves the K-trivial case of a conjecture of M. Lehn from 1999.
The relations determining the Segre classes fit into a much wider theory. By localizing the virtual classes of certain relative Quot schemes on surfaces, we obtain new systems of relations among tautological classes on moduli spaces of surfaces and their relative Hilbert schemes of points. For the moduli of K3 sufaces, we produce relations intertwining the kappa classes and the Noether-Lefschetz loci. Conjectures are proposed.

In addition, the elemental concentrations determined in teeth from subjects of different ages, nutritional states, professions and gender, living under various environmental conditions and dietary habits, were included in a comparison by multivariate statistical analysis (MVSA) methods. By factor analysis it was established that inorganic components of human teeth varied consistently with their source in the tissue, with more in such tissue from females than in that from males, and more in tooth incisor than in tooth molar.

Parity violation effects (PV) in nuclear reaction were discovered in the 60 years of the last century in the capture of thermal transversal polarized neutrons by 113Cd nucleus. In this reaction experimentally was measured a non zero asymmetry of emitted gamma quanta and the results was interpreted by the existence of weak non leptonic interaction between nucleons in the compound nucleus. This first experimental result gave a serious impulse of theoretical and experimental developments of parity violation question in nuclear reactions. The weak interaction acts in the background of strong interaction (with order of magnitude higher) and therefore it is very difficult to observe and evidence it. One possibility is the evaluation of asymmetry effects induced by PV phenomena. For neutrons scattering there are a few asymmetry effects (like polarization of incident neutron beam, spin rotation and emitted neutrons asymmetry of incident transversal polarized neutrons) explained by the presence of weak interaction. In natural Lead were observed an unexpected high value of neutron spin rotation due to the PV phenomena. The natural Lead contains four isotopes and the main contribution to the PV effects is given by 204Pb. Further to explain the high value of neutron spin rotation it was supposed the existence of a new negative P resonance with energy EP = - 16 eV. In this work were estimated the PV effects in neutrons scattering in order to extract the weak matrix element and to verify the existence of the new negative resonance of 204Pb nucleus.

In the prequel to this paper, two versions of Le Potier's strange duality conjecture for sheaves over abelian surfaces were studied. A third version is considered here. In the current setup, the isomorphism involves moduli spaces of sheaves with fixed determinant and fixed determinant of the Fourier-Mukai transform on one side, and moduli spaces where both determinants vary, on the other side. We first establish the isomorphism in rank one using the representation theory of Heisenberg groups. For product abelian surfaces, the isomorphism is then shown to hold for sheaves with fiber degree 1 via Fourier-Mukai techniques. By degeneration to product geometries, the duality is obtained generically for a large number of numerical types. Finally, it is shown in great generality that the Verlinde sheaves encoding the variation of the spaces of theta functions are locally free over moduli.

Localization on the moduli of stable quotients leads to new relations in the tautological ring generalizing Brill-Noether constructions.
The moduli space of stable quotients is proven to carry a canonical 2-term obstruction theory and thus a virtual class. The resulting system of descendent invariants is proven to equal the Gromov-Witten theory of the Grassmannian in all genera. Stable quotients can also be used to study Calabi-Yau geometries. The conifold is calculated to agree with stable maps. Several questions about the behavior of stable quotients for arbitrary targets are raised.

The Verlinde bundles and the semihomogeneous Wirtinger duality
Authors:
Dragos Oprea
Abstract:
We determine the splitting type of the Verlinde vector bundles in higher genus in terms of simple semihomogeneous factors. In agreement with strange duality, the simple factors are interchanged by the Fourier-Mukai transform, and their spaces of sections are naturally dual.

A tour of theta dualities on moduli spaces of sheaves
Authors:
Alina Marian,
Dragos Oprea
Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, we survey known results about theta dualities on moduli spaces of sheaves on curves and surfaces. Secondly, we establish new such dualities in the surface case. Among others, the case of elliptic K3 surfaces is studied in detail; we propose further conjectures which are shown to imply strange duality.

Abstract:
We formulate three versions of a strange duality conjecture for sections of the Theta bundles on the moduli spaces of sheaves on abelian surfaces. As supporting evidence, we check the equality of dimensions on dual moduli spaces, answering a question raised by Gottsche-Nakajima-Yoshioka.

A note on the Verlinde bundles on elliptic curves
Authors:

Abstract:
We study the splitting properties of the Verlinde bundles over elliptic curves. Our methods rely on the explicit description of the moduli space of semistable vector bundles on elliptic curves, and on the analysis of the symmetric powers of the Schrodinger representation of the Theta group.

Abstract:
We prove that the strange duality conjecture of Beauville-Donagi-Tu holds for all curves. We establish first a more extended rank-level duality, interesting in its own right, from which the standard rank-level duality follows by restriction.

In particular, we explicitly evaluate all intersection numbers appearing in the Verlinde formula. Our results are in agreement with previous computations of Witten, Jeffrey-Kirwan and Liu. Moreover, we prove the vanishing of certain intersections on a suitable Quot scheme which can be interpreted as giving equations between counts of maps to the Grassmannian.

We construct a virtual fundamental class on the Quot scheme parametrizing quotients of a trivial bundle on a curve. Abstract:
We give an algebro-geometric derivation of the known intersection theory on the moduli space of stable rank 2 bundles of odd degree over a smooth curve of genus g. We lift the computation from the moduli space to a Quot scheme, where we obtain the intersections by equivariant localization with respect to a natural torus action.

This will lead to a partial reconstruction theorem for the Grassmannian of 2 planes.
