In the present work, the effect of resonant pum** schemes in improving the photon coherence is investigated on InAs/InGaAs/GaAs quantum dots emitting in the telecom C-band. The linewidths of transitions of multiple exemplary quantum dots are determined under above-band pum** and resonance fluorescence via Fourier-transform spectroscopy and resonance scans, respectively. The average linewidth is reduced from $9.74\,\mathrm{GHz}$ in above-band excitation to $3.50\,\mathrm{GHz}$ in resonance fluorescence underlining its superior coherence properties. Furthermore, the feasibility of coherent state preparation with a fidelity of $49.2\,\%$ is demonstrated, constituting a step towards on-demand generation of coherent, single C-band photons from quantum dots. Finally, two-photon excitation of the biexciton is investigated as a resonant pum** scheme. A deconvoluted single-photon purity value of $g^{(2)}_{\mathrm{HBT}}(0)=0.072\pm 0.104$ and a degree of indistinguishability of $V_{\mathrm{HOM}}=0.894\pm0.109$ are determined for the biexciton transition. This represents an important step towards fulfilling the prerequisites for quantum communication applications like quantum repeater schemes at telecom wavelength.

Abstract:
We showcase an optical random sampling scope that exploits single photon counting and apply it to characterize optical transceivers. We study single photon detectors with a jitter down to 40 ps. The method can be extended beyond 100 GHz.

Lab::Measurement is a framework for test and measurement automatization using Perl 5. While primarily developed with applications in mesoscopic physics in mind, it is widely adaptable. Internally, a layer model is implemented. Communication protocols such as IEEE 488, USB Test & Measurement, or, e.g., VXI-11 are addressed by the connection layer. The wide range of supported connection backends enables unique cross-platform portability. At the instrument layer, objects correspond to equipment connected to the measurement PC (e.g., voltage sources, magnet power supplies, multimeters, etc.). The high-level sweep layer automates the creation of measurement loops, with simultaneous plotting and data logging. An extensive unit testing framework is used to verify functionality even without connected equipment. Lab::Measurement is distributed as free and open source software.

We report on optical investigations of MOVPE-grown InGaAs/GaAs quantum dots emitting at the telecom O-band that were integrated onto uniaxial piezoelectric actuators. This promising technique, which does not degrade the optical quality or performances of the quantum emitters, enables us to tune the quantum dot emission wavelengths and their fine-structure splitting. By spectrally analyzing the emitted light with respect to its polarization, we are able to demonstrate the cancelation of the fine structure splitting within the experimental resolution limit. This work represents an important step towards the high-yield generation of entangled photon pairs at telecommunication wavelength, together with the capability to precisely tune the emission to target wavelengths.
