Abstract:
We report a study of the hadronic transitions $χ_{bJ}(2P)\toωΥ(1S)$, with $ω\toπ^{+}π^{-}π^{0}$, using $28.2\times10^6~Υ(3S)$ mesons recorded by the Belle detector. We present the first evidence for the near--threshold transition $χ_{b0}(2P)\toωΥ(1S)$, the analog of the charm sector decay $χ_{c1}(3872)\toωJ/ψ$, with a branching fraction of…

We report a study of the hadronic transitions $χ_{bJ}(2P)\toωΥ(1S)$, with $ω\toπ^{+}π^{-}π^{0}$, using $28.2\times10^6~Υ(3S)$ mesons recorded by the Belle detector. We present the first evidence for the near--threshold transition $χ_{b0}(2P)\toωΥ(1S)$, the analog of the charm sector decay $χ_{c1}(3872)\toωJ/ψ$, with a branching fraction of $\mathcal{B}\big(χ_{b0}(2P)\toωΥ(1S)\big) = \big(0.55\pm0.19\pm0.07\big)\%$. We also obtain branching fractions of $\mathcal{B}\big(χ_{b1}(2P)\toωΥ(1S)\big) = \big(2.39{}^{+0.20}_{-0.19}\pm0.24\big)\%$ and $\mathcal{B}\big(χ_{b2}(2P)\toωΥ(1S)\big) = \big(0.47{}^{+0.13}_{-0.12}\pm0.06\big)\%$, confirming the measurement of the $ω$ transitions of the $J=1,2~P$--wave states. The ratio for the $J=2$ to $J=1$ transitions is also measured and found to differ by 3.3 standard deviations from the expected value in the QCD multipole expansion.

The dynamics of a quantum system are characterized by three components: quantum state, quantum process, and quantum measurement. The proper measurement of these components is a crucial issue in quantum information processing. Recently, direct measurement methods have been proposed and demonstrated wherein each complex matrix element of these three components is obtained separately, without the need for quantum tomography of the entire matrix. Since these direct measurement methods have been proposed independently, no theoretical framework has been presented to unify them despite the time symmetry of quantum dynamics. In this study, we propose a theoretical framework to systematically derive direct measurement methods for these three components. Following this framework and further utilizing the basis-shift unitary transformation, we have derived the most efficient direct measurement method using qubit probes. Additionally, we have experimentally demonstrated the feasibility of the direct measurement method of quantum states using optical pulse trains.

Transport phenomena of microswimmers in fluid flows play a crucial role in various biological processes, including bioconvection and cell sorting. In this paper, we investigate the dispersion behavior of chiral microswimmers in a simple shear flow utilizing the generalized Taylor dispersion (GTD) theory, motivated by biased locomotion of bacterial swimmers known as bacterial rheotaxis. We thus focus on the influence of shear-induced torque effects due to particle chirality, employing an extended Jeffery equation for individual deterministic dynamics. We then numerically calculate macroscopic parameters including averaged swimming velocity and effective diffusion tensor using spherical harmonic expansion, and argue the obtained results based on the fixed points and their stability of the orientational dynamical systems. Our results reveal that chiral effects induce biased locomotion and we observe qualitative transitions in the orientational distribution with increasing Peclét number, aligning with previous experimental findings. The diffusion tensor analysis highlights significant reduction in the diffusion coefficient perpendicular to the flow plane due to chirality. This suggests potential applications in flow-mediated cell separation and we numerically demonstrate such chirality-induced fluid transportation. The presented methods will be useful in predicting and controlling dispersion behaviors of such chiral microswimmers.

This paper proposes a cost-effective architecture for an RF pulse generator for superconducting qubits. Most existing works use arbitrary waveform generators (AWGs) that require both a large amount of high-bandwidth memories and high-performance analog circuits to achieve the highest gate fidelity with an optimized RF pulse waveform. The proposed pulse generator architecture significantly simplifies both the generator circuit and the waveform of the RF pulse to a cost-aware square pulses. This architecture eliminates the requirement for power- and cost-intensive AWG, a major obstacle in realizing scalable quantum computers. Additionally, this paper proposes a process to optimize pulse waveforms to maximize fidelity of gate operations for single and multiple qubits. Quantum dynamics simulation of transmon qubits, wherein the state of system evolves with time, demonstrates that our pulse generator can achieve practically the same gate fidelity as ideal RF pulses, while substantially reducing the performance requirements of memory and analog circuits.

The manipulation of solid states using intense infrared or terahertz light fields is a pivotal area in contemporary ultrafast photonics research. While conventional circular polarization has been well explored, the potential of counterrotating bicircular light remains widely underexplored, despite growing interest in theory. In the mid-infrared or multi-terahertz region, experimental challenges lie in difficulties in stabilizing the relative phase between two-color lights and the lack of available polarization elements. Here, we successfully generated phase-stable counterrotating bicircular light pulses in the 10-40 THz frequency range circumventing the above problems. Employing spectral broadening, polarization pulse sha** with a spatial light modulator, and intra-pulse difference frequency generation leveraging a distinctive angular-momentum selection rule within the nonlinear crystal, we achieved direct conversion from near-infrared pulses into the designed counterrotating bicircular multi-terahertz pulses. Use of the spatial light modulator enables programmable control over the shape, orientation, rotational symmetry, and helicity of the bicircular light field trajectory. This advancement provides a novel pathway for the programmable manipulation of light fields, and marks a significant step toward understanding and harnessing the impact of tailored light fields on matter, particularly in the context of topological semimetals.

Microwave magnetometry is essential for the advancement of microwave technologies. We demonstrate a broadband microwave sensing protocol using the AC Zeeman effect with ensemble nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond. A widefield microscope can visualize the frequency characteristics of the microwave resonator and the spatial distribution of off-resonant microwave amplitude. Furthermore, by combining this method with dynamical decoupling, we achieve the microwave amplitude sensitivity of $5.2 \, \mathrm{μT} / \sqrt{\mathrm{Hz}}$, which is 7.7 times better than $40.2 \, \mathrm{μT} / \sqrt{\mathrm{Hz}}$ obtained using the protocol in previous research over a sensing volume of $2.77 \, \mathrm{μm} \times 2.77 \, \mathrm{μm} \times 30 \, \mathrm{nm}$. Our achievement is a concrete step in adapting ensemble NV centers for wideband and widefield microwave imaging.

Nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamonds are a powerful tool for accurate magnetic field measurements. The key is precisely estimating the field-dependent splitting width of the optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) spectra of the NV centers. In this study, we investigate the optical power dependence of the ODMR spectra using NV ensemble in nanodiamonds (NDs) and a single-crystal bulk diamond. We find that the splitting width exponentially decays and is saturated as the optical power increases. Comparison between NDs and a bulk sample shows that while the decay amplitude is sample-dependent, the optical power at which the decay saturates is almost sample-independent. We propose that this unexpected phenomenon is an intrinsic property of the NV center due to non-axisymmetry deformation or impurities. Our finding indicates that diamonds with less deformation are advantageous for accurate magnetic field measurements.

Asteroids (162173) Ryugu and (101955) Bennu observed by Hayabusa2 and OSIRIS-REx share many properties, but spectral observations by the telescopic Optical Navigation Camera (ONC-T) and MapCam detected subtle but significant differences, which may reflect differences in their origin and evolution. Comparing these differences on the same absolute scale is necessary for understanding their causes. However, ONC-T and MapCam have a large imager-to-imager systematic error of up to 15% caused by the difference in radiometric calibration targets. To resolve this problem, we cross calibrated albedo and color data between the two instruments using the Moon as the common calibration standard. The images of the Moon taken by ONC-T and MapCam were compared with those simulated using photometry models developed from lunar orbiter data. Our results show that the cross-calibrated reflectance of Ryugu and Bennu can be obtained by upscaling the pre-cross-calibrated reflectance of Bennu by 13.3 +/- 1.6% at b band, 13.2 +/- 1.5% at v band, 13.6 +/- 1.7% at w band, and 14.8 +/- 1.8% at x band, while those for Ryugu are kept the same. These factors compensate for the imager-to-imager bias caused by differences in targets used for radiometric calibration and solar irradiance models used for data reduction. Need for such large upscaling underscore the importance of using the cross-calibrated data for accurately comparing the Ryugu and Bennu data. The uncertainty in these factors show that the reflectance of Ryugu and Bennu can be compared with <2% accuracy after applying our results. By applying our cross calibration, the geometric albedo of Bennu became consistent with those observed by ground-based telescopes and OVIRS. Our result can be simply applied by multiplying a constant to the publicly available data and enables accurate comparison of the optical spectra of Ryugu and Bennu in future studies.

We present a measurement of the branching fractions of four $B^{0,-}\to D^{(*)+,0} K^- K^{0}_S$ decay modes. The measurement is based on data from SuperKEKB electron-positron collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance collected with the Belle II detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of ${362~\text{fb}^{-1}}$. The event yields are extracted from fits to the distributions of the difference between expected and observed $B$ meson energy to separate signal and background, and are efficiency-corrected as a function of the invariant mass of the $K^-K_S^0$ system. We find the branching fractions to be: \[ \text{B}(B^-\to D^0K^-K_S^0)=(1.89\pm 0.16\pm 0.10)\times 10^{-4}, \] \[ \text{B}(\overline B{}^0\to D^+K^-K_S^0)=(0.85\pm 0.11\pm 0.05)\times 10^{-4},\] \[ \text{B}(B^-\to D^{*0}K^-K_S^0)=(1.57\pm 0.27\pm 0.12)\times 10^{-4}, \] \[ \text{B}(\overline B{}^0\to D^{*+}K^-K_S^0)=(0.96\pm 0.18\pm 0.06)\times 10^{-4},\] where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The first simultaneous determination of the absolute value of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $V_{ub}$ using inclusive and exclusive decays is performed with the full Belle data set at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 711 fb${}^{-1}$. We analyze collision events in which one $B$ meson is fully reconstructed in hadronic modes. This allows for the reconstruction of the hadronic $X_u$ system of the semileptonic $b \to u \ell \bar ν_\ell$ decay. We separate exclusive $B \to π\, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ decays from other inclusive $B \to X_u \, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ and backgrounds with a two-dimensional fit, that utilizes the number of charged pions in the $X_u$ system and the four-momentum transfer $q^2$ between the $B$ and $X_u$ system. Combining our measurement with information from lattice QCD and QCD calculations of the inclusive partial rate as well as external experimental information on the shape of the $B \to π\, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ form factor, we determine $\left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{excl.}} \right| = (3.78 \pm 0.23 \pm 0.16 \pm 0.14)\times 10^{-3}$ and $\left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{incl.}} \right| = (3.88 \pm 0.20 \pm 0.31 \pm 0.09)\times 10^{-3}$, respectively, with the uncertainties being the statistical error, systematic errors, and theory errors. The ratio of $\left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{excl.}} \right| / \left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{incl.}} \right| = 0.97 \pm 0.12$ is compatible with unity.

Zodiacal light (ZL) is sunlight scattered by interplanetary dust particles (IDPs) at optical wavelengths. The spatial distribution of IDPs in the Solar System may hold an important key to understanding the evolution of the Solar System and material transportation within it. The number density of IDPs can be expressed as $n(r) \sim r^{-α}$, and the exponent $α\sim 1.3$ was obtained by previous observations from interplanetary space by Helios 1/2 and Pioneer 10/11 in the 1970s and 1980s. However, no direct measurements of $α$ based on ZL observations from interplanetary space outside Earth's orbit have been performed since then. Here, we introduce initial results for the radial profile of the ZL at optical wavelengths observed over the range 0.76-1.06 au by ONC-T aboard the Hayabusa2# mission in 2021-2022. The ZL brightness we obtained is well reproduced by a model brightness, although there is a small excess of the observed ZL brightness over the model brightness at around 0.9 au. The radial power-law index we obtained is $α= 1.30 \pm 0.08$, which is consistent with previous results based on ZL observations. The dominant source of uncertainty arises from the uncertainty in estimating the diffuse Galactic light (DGL).

We present a study of the $X(3872)$ lineshape in the decay $B \to X(3872)K\to D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}K$ using a data sample of $772\times 10^6$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. The peak near the threshold in the $D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}$ invariant mass spectrum is fitted using a relativistic Breit-Wigner lineshape. We determine the mass and width parameters to be $m = 3873.71 ^{+0.56}_{-0.50} ({\rm stat}) \pm0.13 ({\rm syst}) ~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ and $Γ_0 = 5.2 ^{+2.2}_{-1.5} ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.4 ({\rm syst})~{\rm MeV}$, respectively. The branching fraction is found to be ${\cal B} (B^+\to X(3872)K^+) \times {\cal{B}}(X(3872) \to D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}) = (0.97 ^{+0.21}_{-0.18} ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.10 ({\rm syst})) \times 10^{-4}$. The signal from $B^0$ decays is observed for the first time with $5.2σ$ significance, and the ratio of branching fractions between charged and neutral $B$ decays is measured to be ${\cal B}(B^0\to X(3872)K^0)/{\cal B}(B^+ \to X(3872)K^+) = 1.34^{+0.47}_{-0.40} ({\rm stat}) ^{+0.10}_{-0.12} ({\rm syst})$. The peak is also studied using a Flatté lineshape. We determine the lower limit on the $D\overline{D}{}^{*}$ coupling constant $g$ to be $0.075$ at 95% credibility in the parameter region where the ratio of $g$ to the mass difference from the $D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}$ threshold is equal to $-15.11~{\rm GeV}^{-1}$, as measured by LHCb.

We extract the Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert (CLN) and Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed (BGL) form factor parameters and use an external input for the absolute branching fractions to determine the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element and find $|V_{cb}|_\mathrm{CLN} = (40.1\pm0.9)\times 10^{-3}$ and $|V_{cb}|_\mathrm{BGL} = (40.6\pm 0.9)\times 10^{-3}$ with the zero-recoil lattice QCD point $\mathcal{F}(1) = 0.906 \pm 0.013$. We measure the photon-energy spectrum in radiative bottom-meson ($B$) decays into inclusive final states involving a strange hadron and a photon. We use SuperKEKB electron-positron collisions corresponding to $189~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance by the Belle II experiment. The partner $B$ candidates are fully reconstructed using a large number of hadronic channels. The $B \rightarrow X_s γ$ partial branching fractions are measured as a function of photon energy in the signal $B$ meson rest frame in eight bins above $1.8~\mathrm{GeV}$. The background-subtracted signal yield for this photon energy region is $343 \pm 122$ events. Integrated branching fractions for three photon energy thresholds of $1.8~\mathrm{GeV}$, $2.0~\mathrm{GeV}$, and $2.1~\mathrm{GeV}$ are also reported, and found to be in agreement with world averages.

We present an analysis of the charmless semileptonic decay $B^0\toπ^- \ell^+ ν_{\ell}$, where $\ell = e, μ$, from 198.0 million pairs of $B\bar{B}$ mesons recorded by the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB electron-positron collider. The decay is reconstructed without identifying the partner $B$ meson. The partial branching fractions are measured independently for $B^0\toπ^- e^+ ν_{e}$ and $B^0\toπ^- μ^+ ν_μ$ as functions of $q^{2}$ (momentum transfer squared), using 3896 $B^0\toπ^- e^+ ν_{e}$ and 5466 $B^0\toπ^- μ^+ ν_μ$ decays. The total branching fraction is found to be $(1.426 \pm 0.056 \pm 0.125) \times 10^{-4}$ for $B^0\toπ^- \ell^+ ν_{\ell}$ decays, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. By fitting the measured partial branching fractions as functions of $q^{2}$, together with constraints on the nonperturbative hadronic contribution from lattice QCD calculations, the magnitude of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $V_{ub}$, $(3.55 \pm 0.12 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.17) \times 10^{-3}$, is extracted. Here, the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic and the third is theoretical.

The concept of the chiral gauge field (CGF), originally developed in theoretical particle physics, has now emerged in condensed matter systems in materials known as Weyl semimetals. In general, Weyl semimetals emerge from Dirac semimetals when time-reversal or spatial-inversion symmetries are broken. Recently, it has gained a growing interest to manipulate such topological states of matter by implementing the CGF by shining light to materials. Here we have demonstrated the emergence of CGF in a massive 3D Dirac electron system in the paramagnetic phase of Co3Sn2S2, which exhibits a ferromagnetic Weyl semimetal phase at low temperatures. We first show theoretically that the illumination of circularly polarized light implements the CGF in the paramagnetic state of Co3Sn2S2 and gives rise to a topological Weyl state, which can be realized only in the nonequilibrium state. Then we demonstrated that the presence of light-induced CGF through the observation of light-induced anomalous Hall effect, the behavior of which quantitatively agrees with the calculation from the Floquet theory. The light-induced AHE manifests the Berry curvature which becomes nonzero as the bands split due to the light-induced CGF. Our demonstration paves a new pathway for ultrafast manipulation of topological phases in 3D Dirac semimetals and for further exploring new quantum matter phases which can be only achieved by light.

We measure ${\mathcal{B}(B^+ \rightarrow π^+ π^0) = (6.12 \pm 0.53 \pm 0.53)\times 10^{-6}}$, ${\mathcal{B}(B^+ \rightarrow K^+ π^0) = (14.30 \pm 0.69 \pm 0.79)\times 10^{-6}}$, ${\mathcal{A}_{\it CP}(B^+ \rightarrow π^+ π^0) = -0.085 \pm 0.085 \pm 0.019}$, and ${\mathcal{A}_{\it CP}(B^+ \rightarrow K^+ π^0) = 0.014 \pm 0.047 \pm 0.010}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results improve a previous Belle II measurement and agree with the world averages.

Experiments on crater formation in the strength regime were conducted using projectiles of various shapes with an aspect ratio of ~1, including both solid and hollow interiors. The surface diameter, inner (pit) diameter, and depth of the craters on basalt and porous gypsum targets were measured. Using the bulk density of the projectile, the surface diameter and depth for basalt and the pit diameter and depth for porous gypsum were scaled using the pi-scaling law for crater formation in the strength regime. The numerical code iSALE was used to simulate the impact of projectiles of various shapes and interior structure with similar bulk densities. Results show that the distributions of the maximum (peak) pressure experienced and particle velocity in the targets were similar regardless of projectile shape and interior structure, implying that the dimensions of the final craters were almost identical. This is consistent with the experimental results. Thus, we conclude that the size of the craters formed by the impact of projectiles with different shape and interior structure can be scaled using a conventional scaling law in the strength regime, using bulk density as projectile density.

The data were collected by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy collider during 2019-2021, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $189$ fb$^{-1}$. The measured quantities are the branching fractions (${\mathcal B}$) of the decay channels $B^{+} \to J/ψ(e^{+}e^{-})K^{+}$, $B^{+} \to J/ψ(μ^{+}μ^{-}) K^{+}$, $B^{0} \to J/ψ(e^{+}e^{-}) K^{0}_{S}$, and $B^{0} \to J/ψ(μ^{+}μ^{-})K^{0}_{S}$; the lepton-flavor-dependent isospin asymmetries for the electron [$A_{I}\left(B \to J/ψ(e^{+}e^{-}) K\right)$] and muon [$A_{I}\left(B \to J/ψ(μ^{+} μ^{-}) K\right)$] channels; and the ratios of branching fractions between the muon and electron channels for the charged [$R_{K^{+}}\left(J/ψ\right)$] and neutral kaon [$R_{K^{0}}\left(J/ψ\right)$] case. The measurements are consistent with the world-average values.

We show a known result that a wreath product is Schurian if and only if both components are Schurian, which yields large families of non-Schurian association schemes and non-Schurian $S$-rings. We also study iterated wreath products. Kernel schemes by Martin and Stinson are shown to be iterated wreath products of class-one association schemes. The iterated wreath products give examples of projective systems of non-Schurian association schemes, with an explicit description of primitive idempotents.

We show that taking the set of primitive idempotents of commutative association schemes is a functor from the category of commutative association schemes with surjective morphisms to the category of finite sets with surjective partial functions. We then consider projective systems of commutative association schemes consisting of surjections (which we call profinite association schemes), for which Bose-Mesner algebra is defined, and describe a Delsarte theory on such schemes. This is another method for generalizing association schemes to those on infinite sets, related with the approach by Barg and Skriganov. Relation with $(t,m,s)$-nets and $(t,s)$-sequences is studied. We reprove some of the results of Martin-Stinson from this viewpoint.

A measurement of the ratio of these branching fractions is also presented, $\mathcal{R}_{K/π}=\mathcal{B}(\bar{B} \to D^{*+}K^-) /\mathcal{B}( \bar{B} \to D^{*+}π^-) = (8.41 \pm 0.24 \pm 0.13)\times 10^{-2}$, where systematic uncertainties due to the $D^{*+}$ meson reconstruction cancel out. Furthermore, we report a new QCD factorization test based on the measured ratios for $\bar{B} \to D^{*+}h^-$ and $\bar{B} \to D^{*+}\ell^-ν$ decays at squared momentum transfer values equivalent to the mass of the $h = π$ or $K$ hadron. The parameters $|a_1(h)|$ are measured to be $|a_1(π)|= 0.884 \pm 0.004 \pm 0.003 \pm 0.016$ and $|a_1(K)|=0.913 \pm 0.019 \pm 0.008 \pm 0.013$, where the last uncertainties account for all external inputs. These values are approximately $15\%$ lower than those expected from theoretical predictions. Subsequently, flavor $SU(3)$ symmetry is tested by measuring the ratios for pions and kaons, $|a_1(K)|^2/ |a_1(π)|^2=1.066 \pm 0.042 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.023$, as well as for different particle species. The ratio is consistent with unity and therefore no evidence for $SU(3)$ symmetry breaking effects is found at the $5\%$ precision level.

We determine the partial branching fractions in three bins of the squared momentum transfer to the leptonic system using fits to the distribution of the square of the missing mass. The partial branching fractions are summed to determine $\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to π^- e^+ ν_e)$ = (1.43 $\pm$ 0.27(stat) $\pm$ 0.07(syst)) $\times 10^{-4}$ and $\mathcal{B}(B^+ \to π^0 e^+ ν_e)$ = (8.33 $\pm$ 1.67(stat) $\pm$ 0.55(syst)) $\times 10^{-5}$. We report a measurement of the branching fraction of $B \to K^{\ast}(892)\ell^+\ell^-$ decays, where $\ell^+\ell^- = μ^+μ^-$ or $e^+e^-$, using electron-positron collisions recorded at an energy at or near the $Υ(4S)$ mass and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $189$ fb$^{-1}$. The data was collected during 2019--2021 by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB $e^{+}e^{-}$ asymmetric-energy collider. We reconstruct $K^{\ast}(892)$ candidates in the $K^+π^-$, $K_{S}^{0}π^+$, and $K^+π^0$ final states. The signal yields with statistical uncertainties are $22\pm 6$, $18 \pm 6$, and $38 \pm 9$ for the decays $B \to K^{\ast}(892)μ^+μ^-$, $B \to K^{\ast}(892)e^+e^-$, and $B \to K^{\ast}(892)\ell^+\ell^-$, respectively. We measure the branching fractions of these decays for the entire range of the dilepton mass, excluding the very low mass region to suppress the $B \to K^{\ast}(892)γ(\to e^+e^-)$ background and regions compatible with decays of charmonium resonances, to be \begin{equation} {\cal B}(B \to K^{\ast}(892)μ^+μ^-) = (1.19 \pm 0.31 ^{+0.08}_{-0.07}) \times 10^{-6}, {\cal B}(B \to K^{\ast}(892)e^+e^-) = (1.42 \pm 0.48 \pm 0.09)\times 10^{-6}, {\cal B}(B \to K^{\ast}(892)\ell^+\ell^-) = (1.25 \pm 0.30 ^{+0.08}_{-0.07}) \times 10^{-6}, \end{equation} where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. These results, limited by sample size, are the first measurements of $B \to K^{\ast}(892)\ell^+\ell^-$ branching fractions from the Belle II experiment.

The recently discovered kagome superconductors $A$V$_3$Sb$_5$ ($A$ = K, Rb, Cs) possess a unique band structure with van Hove singularities and Dirac dispersions, in which unusual charge-density-wave (CDW) orders with time-reversal and rotational symmetry breaking have been reported. One of the most crucial unresolved issues is identifying the symmetry of the superconductivity that develops inside the CDW phase. Theory predicts a variety of unconventional superconducting symmetries, including exotic states with chiral and topological properties accompanied by a sign-changing superconducting gap. Experimentally, however, the phase information on the superconducting gap in $A$V$_3$Sb$_5$ is still lacking. Here we report the electron irradiation effects in CsV$_3$Sb$_5$ using introduced impurities as a phase-sensitive probe of superconductivity. Our magnetic penetration depth measurements reveal that with increasing impurities, a highly anisotropic fully-gapped state changes gradually to an isotropic full-gap state without passing through a nodal state. Furthermore, transport measurements under high pressure show that the double superconducting dome in the pressure-temperature phase diagram survives against sufficient impurities. These results are strong bulk evidence that CsV$_3$Sb$_5$ is a non-chiral, anisotropic $s$-wave superconductor with no sign change both at ambient and high pressure, which provides a clue to understanding the relationship between CDW and superconductivity in kagome superconductors.

Asteroid 162173 Ryugu has numerous craters. The initial measurement of impact craters on Ryugu, by Sugita et al. (2019), is based on Hayabusa2 ONC images obtained during the first month after the arrival of Hayabusa2 in June 2018. Utilizing new images taken until February 2019, we constructed a global impact crater catalogue of Ryugu, which includes all craters larger than 20 m in diameter on the surface of Ryugu. As a result, we identified 77 craters on the surface of Ryugu. Ryugu shows variation in crater density which cannot be explained by the randomness of cratering; there are more craters at lower latitudes and fewer at higher latitudes, and fewer craters in the western bulge (160 E - 290 E) than in the region around the meridian (300 E - 30 E). This variation implies a complicated geologic history for Ryugu. It seems that the longitudinal variation in crater density simply indicates variation in the crater ages; the cratered terrain around the meridian seems to be geologically old while the western bulge is relatively young. The latitudinal variation in crater density suggests that the equatorial ridge of Ryugu is a geologically old structure; however, this could be alternatively explained by a collision with many fission fragments during a short rotational period of Ryugu in the past.

Local detection of magnetic fields is crucial for characterizing nano- and micro-materials and has been implemented using various scanning techniques or even diamond quantum sensors. Diamond nanoparticles (nanodiamonds) offer an attractive opportunity to chieve high spatial resolution because they can easily be close to the target within a few 10 nm simply by attaching them to its surface. A physical model for such a randomly oriented nanodiamond ensemble (NDE) is available, but the complexity of actual experimental conditions still limits the accuracy of deducing magnetic fields. Here, we demonstrate magnetic field imaging with high accuracy of 1.8 $μ$T combining NDE and machine learning without any physical models. We also discover the field direction dependence of the NDE signal, suggesting the potential application for vector magnetometry and improvement of the existing model. Our method further enriches the performance of NDE to achieve the accuracy to visualize mesoscopic current and magnetism in atomic-layer materials and to expand the applicability in arbitrarily shaped materials, including living organisms. This achievement will bridge machine learning and quantum sensing for accurate measurements.

We present the first measurement of the branching fraction of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed (SCS) decay $Λ_c^+ \to p η'$ with $η' \to ηπ^+π^-$, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 981 $\rm fb^{-1}$, collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+}$$e^{-}$ asymmetric-energy collider. A significant $Λ_c^+$ signal is observed for the first time with a signal significance of 5.4$σ$. The relative branching fraction with respect to the normalization mode $Λ_c^+ \to pK^-π^+$ is measured to be
\begin{equation*}
\frac{{\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to p η')}{{\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to p K^-π^+)} = (7.54 \pm 1.32 \pm 0.75) \times 10^{-3},
\end{equation*}
where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Using the world-average value of ${\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to p K^-π^+) = (6.28\pm0.32)\times10^{-2}$, we obtain
\begin{equation*}
{\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to p η') = (4.73 \pm 0.82 \pm 0.47 \pm 0.24)\times 10^{-4},
\end{equation*}
where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and from ${\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to pK^-π^+)$, respectively.

Understanding the geological modification processes on asteroids can provide information concerning their surface history. Images of small asteroids from spacecraft show a depletion in terms of smaller craters. Seismic shaking was considered to be responsible for crater erasure and the main driver modifying the geology of asteroids via regolith convection or the Brazil nut effect. However, a recent artificial impact experiment on the asteroid Ryugu by the Japanese Hayabusa2 mission revealed minimal seismic activity. To investigate whether a seismic shaking model can reproduce the observed crater record, the crater distribution on Ryugu was analyzed using crater production functions under cohesionless conditions. Crater retention ages were estimated as a function of crater diameter for Ryugu, Itokawa, Eros, and Bennu using the crater size-frequency distribution and crater production function estimated for those asteroids. We found that the power-law indices "a" are inconsistent with diffusion processes (e.g., seismic shaking, a=2). This result suggests that seismic shaking models based on diffusion equations cannot explain the crater distribution on small asteroids. Alternative processes include surface flows, possibly at the origin of geomorphological and spectral features of Ryugu. We demonstrate that the vertical mixing of material at depths shallower than 1 m occurs over 10^3-10^5 yr by cratering and obliteration. The young surface age of Ryugu is consistent with the slow space weathering that results from cratering, as suggested in previous studies. The timescale (10^4-10^6 yr) required for resurfacing at depths of 2-4 m can be compared with the cosmic-ray exposure ages of returned samples to constrain the distribution of impactors that collide with Ryugu.

No significant $A^0$ signals in the mass range from the $τ^+τ^-$ or $μ^+μ^-$ threshold to 9.2 GeV/$c^2$ are observed. We set the upper limits at 90\% credibility level (C.L.) on the product branching fractions for $Υ(1S)\to γA^0$ and $A^0\to τ^+τ^-$ varying from $3.8\times10^{-6}$ to $1.5\times10^{-4}$. Our results represent an approximately twofold improvement on the current world best upper limits for the $Υ(1S)\to γA^0(\to τ^+τ^-)$ production. For $A^0\to μ^+μ^-$, the upper limits on the product branching fractions for $Υ(1S)\to γA^0$ and $A^0\to μ^+μ^-$ are at the same level as the world average limits, and vary from $3.1\times10^{-7}$ to $1.6\times10^{-5}$. The upper limits at 90\% C.L. on the Yukawa coupling $f_{Υ(1S)}$ and mixing angle ${\rm sin}θ_{A^0}$ are also given.
