Functional data analysis has become a tool of interest in applied areas such as economics, medicine, and chemistry. Among the techniques developed in recent literature, functional semiparametric regression stands out for its balance between flexible modelling and output interpretation. Despite the large variety of research papers dealing with scalar-on-function (SoF) semiparametric models, there is a notable gap in software tools for their implementation. This article introduces the R package \texttt{fsemipar}, tailored for these models. \texttt{fsemipar} not only estimates functional single-index models using kernel smoothing techniques but also estimates and selects relevant scalar variables in semi-functional models with multivariate linear components. A standout feature is its ability to identify impact points of a curve on the response, even in models with multiple functional covariates, and to integrate both continuous and pointwise effects of functional predictors within a single model. In addition, it allows the use of location-adaptive estimators based on the $k$-nearest-neighbours approach for all the semiparametric models included. Its flexible interface empowers users to customise a wide range of input parameters and includes the standard S3 methods for prediction, statistical analysis, and estimate visualization (\texttt{predict}, \texttt{summary}, \texttt{print}, and \texttt{plot}), enhancing clear result interpretation. Throughout the article, we illustrate the functionalities and the practicality of \texttt{fsemipar} using two chemometric datasets.

This paper focuses on a semiparametric regression model in which the response variable is explained by the sum of two components. One of them is parametric (linear), the corresponding explanatory variable is measured with additive error and its dimension is finite ($p$). The other component models, in a nonparametric way, the effect of a functional variable (infinite dimension) on the response. $k$-NN based estimators are proposed for each component, and some asymptotic results are obtained. A simulation study illustrates the behaviour of such estimators for finite sample sizes, while an application to real data shows the usefulness of our proposal.

A new sparse semiparametric model is proposed, which incorporates the influence of two functional random variables in a scalar response in a flexible and interpretable manner. One of the functional covariates is included through a single-index structure, while the other is included linearly through the high-dimensional vector formed by its discretised observations. For this model, two new algorithms are presented for selecting relevant variables in the linear part and estimating the model. Both procedures utilise the functional origin of linear covariates. Finite sample experiments demonstrated the scope of application of both algorithms: the first method is a fast algorithm that provides a solution (without loss in predictive ability) for the significant computational time required by standard variable selection methods for estimating this model, and the second algorithm completes the set of relevant linear covariates provided by the first, thus improving its predictive efficiency. Some asymptotic results theoretically support both procedures. A real data application demonstrated the applicability of the presented methodology from a predictive perspective in terms of the interpretability of outputs and low computational cost.

This paper deals with the exponential separation of type II, an important concept for random systems of differential equations with delay, introduced in \JM\ et al.~\cite{MiNoOb1}. Two different approaches to its existence are presented. The state space $X$ will be a separable ordered Banach space with $\dim X\geq 2$, dual space $X^{*}$ and positive cone $X^+$ normal and reproducing. In both cases, appropriate cooperativity and irreducibility conditions are assumed to provide a family of generalized Floquet subspaces. If in addition $X^*$ is also separable, one obtains a exponential separation of type II. When this is not the case, but there is an Oseledets decomposition for the continuous semiflow, the same result holds.
Detailed examples are given for all the situations, including also a case where the cone is not normal.

The exponential ordering is exploited in the context of non-auto\-no\-mous delay systems, inducing monotone skew-product semiflows under less restrictive conditions than usual. Some dynamical concepts linked to the order, such as semiequilibria, are considered for the exponential ordering, with implications for the determination of the presence of uniform persistence or the existence of global attractors. Also, some important conclusions on the long-term dynamics and attraction are obtained for monotone and sublinear delay systems for this ordering. The results are then applied to almost periodic Nicholson systems and new conditions are given for the existence of a unique almost periodic positive solution which asymptotically attracts every other positive solution.

The first part of the paper is devoted to studying the continuous dependence of the solutions of Carathéodory constant delay differential equations where the vector fields satisfy classical cooperative conditions. As a consequence, when the set of considered vector fields is invariant with respect to the time-translation map, the continuity of the respective induced skew-product semiflows is obtained. These results are important for the study of the long-term behavior of the trajectories. In particular, the construction of semicontinuous semiequilibria and equilibria is extended to the context of ordinary and delay Carathéodory differential equations. Under appropriate assumptions of sublinearity, the existence of a unique continuous equilibrium, whose graph coincides with the pullback attractor for the evolution processes, is shown. The conditions under which such a solution is the forward attractor of the considered problem are outlined. Two examples of application of the developed tools are also provided.

The single particle and bulk properties of the neutron-rich nuclei constrain fundamental issues in nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics like the limits of existence of quantum many body systems (atomic nuclei), the equation of state of neutron-rich matter, neutron star, nucleosynthesis, evolution of stars, neutron star merging etc.. The state of the art of Coulomb breakup of the neutron-rich nuclei has been used to explore those properties. Unambiguous information on detailed components of the ground-state wave-function along with quantum numbers of the valence neutron of the nuclei have been obtained from the measurement of threshold strength along with the $γ$-rays spectra of the core following Coulomb breakup. The shape of this threshold strength is a finger-print of the quantum numbers of the nucleon. We investigated the ground-state properties of the neutron-rich Na, Mg, Al nuclei around N $\sim$ 20 using this method at GSI, Darmstadt. Very clear evidence has been observed for melting and merging of long cherished magic shell gaps at N = 20, 28. The evanescent neutron-rich nuclei imprint their existence in stellar explosive scenarios (r-process etc.). Coulomb dissociation (CD) is one of the important indirect measurements of the capture cross-section which may provide valuable input to the model for star evolution process, particularly the r-process.
Some valuable bulk properties of the neutron-rich nuclei like the density dependent symmetry energy, neutron skin etc. play a key role in understanding cosmic phenomena and these properties have been studied via electromagnetic excitation. Preliminary results of electromagnetic excitation of the neutron-rich nucleus, $^{32}$Mg are presented.

A numerical study on ion acceleration in electrostatic shock waves is presented, with the aim of determining the best plasma configuration to achieve quasi-monoenergetic ion beams in laser-driven systems. It was recently shown that tailored near-critical density plasmas characterized by a long-scale decreasing rear density profile lead to beams with low energy spread [F. Fiúza et al., Physical Review Letters 109, 215001 (2012)]. In this work, a detailed parameter scan investigating different plasma scale lengths is carried out. As result, the optimal plasma spatial scale length that allows for minimizing the energy spread while ensuring a significant reflection of ions by the shock is identified. Furthermore, a new configuration where the required profile has been obtained by coupling micro layers of different densities is proposed. Results show that this new engineered approach is a valid alternative, guaranteeing a low energy spread with a higher level of controllability.

Collisionless shocks, that is shocks mediated by electromagnetic processes, are customary in space physics and in astrophysics. They are to be found in a great variety of objects and environments: magnetospheric and heliospheric shocks, supernova remnants, pulsar winds and their nebulæ, active galactic nuclei, gamma-ray bursts and clusters of galaxies shock waves. Collisionless shock microphysics enters at different stages of shock formation, shock dynamics and particle energization and/or acceleration. It turns out that the shock phenomenon is a multi-scale non-linear problem in time and space. It is complexified by the impact due to high-energy cosmic rays in astrophysical environments. This review adresses the physics of shock formation, shock dynamics and particle acceleration based on a close examination of available multi-wavelength or in-situ observations, analytical and numerical developments. A particular emphasize is made on the different instabilities triggered during the shock formation and in association with particle acceleration processes with regards to the properties of the background upstream medium. It appears that among the most important parameters the background magnetic field through the magnetization and its obliquity is the dominant one. The shock velocity that can reach relativistic speeds has also a strong impact over the development of the micro-instabilities and the fate of particle acceleration. Recent developments of laboratory shock experiments has started to bring some new insights in the physics of space plasma and astrophysical shock waves. A special section is dedicated to new laser plasma experiments probing shock physics

However, a thorough understanding of shock formation and particle acceleration is still missing. Collisionless shocks can be distinguished into electromagnetic and electrostatic shocks. Electromagnetic shocks are of importance mainly in astrophysical environments and they are mediated by the Weibel or filamentation instability. In such shocks, charged particles gain energy by diffusive shock acceleration. Electrostatic shocks are characterized by a strong electrostatic field, which leads to electron trap**. Ions are accelerated by reflection from the electrostatic potential. Shock formation and particle acceleration will be discussed in theory and simulations.

We analyse the full shock formation process in electron-ion plasmas in theory and simulations. It is accepted that electromagnetic shocks in initially unmagnetised relativistic plasmas are triggered by the filamentation instability. However, the transition from the first unstable phase to the quasi-steady shock is still missing. We derive a theoretical model for the shock formation time, taking into account the filament merging in the non-linear phase of the filamentation instability. This process is much slower than in electron-positron pair shocks, so that the shock formation is longer by a factor proportional to sqrt(m_i/m_e) ln(m_i/m_e).
