Abstract:
We study the spectrum of the one-dimensional Schrödinger operator $H_0$ with a matrix singular distributional potential $q=Q'$ where $Q\in L^{2}_{\mathrm{loc}}(\mathbb{R},\mathbb{C}^{m})$. We obtain generalizations of Ismagilov's localization principles, which give necessary and sufficient conditions for the spectrum of $H_0$ to be bounded below and discrete.

We prove that integrability of a dispersionless Hirota type equation implies the symplectic Monge-Ampere property in any dimension $\geq 4$. In 4D this yields a complete classification of integrable dispersionless PDEs of Hirota type through a list of heavenly type equations arising in self-dual gravity. As a by-product of our approach we derive an involutive system of relations characterising symplectic Monge-Ampere equations in any dimension.
Moreover, we demonstrate that in 4D the requirement of integrability is equivalent to self-duality of the conformal structure defined by the characteristic variety of the equation on every solution, which is in turn equivalent to the existence of a dispersionless Lax pair. We also give a criterion of linerisability of a Hirota type equation via flatness of the corresponding conformal structure, and study symmetry properties of integrable equations.

Let $Gr(d,n)$ be the Grassmannian of $d$-dimensional linear subspaces of an $n$-dimensional vector space $V$. A submanifold $X\subset Gr(d, n)$ gives rise to a differential system $Σ(X)$ that governs $d$-dimensional submanifolds of $V$ whose Gaussian image is contained in $X$. We investigate a special case of this construction where $X$ is a sixfold in $Gr(4, 6)$. The corresponding system $Σ(X)$ reduces to a pair of first-order PDEs for 2 functions of 4 independent variables. Equations of this type arise in self-dual Ricci-flat geometry. Our main result is a complete description of integrable systems $Σ(X)$. These naturally fall into two subclasses.
(1) Systems of Monge-Ampère type. The corresponding sixfolds $X$ are codimension 2 linear sections of the Plücker embedding $Gr(4,6)\subset\mathbb{P}^{14}$.
(2) General linearly degenerate systems. The corresponding sixfolds $X$ are the images of quadratic maps $\mathbb{P}^6- Gr(4, 6)$ given by a version of the classical construction of Chasles.
We prove that integrability is equivalent to the requirement that the characteristic variety of system $Σ(X)$ gives rise to a conformal structure which is self-dual on every solution. In fact, all solutions carry hyper-Hermitian geometry.

We consider the generalized Milne problem in non-conservative plane-parallel optically thick atmosphere consisting of two components - the free electrons and small dust particles. Recall, that the traditional Milne problem describes the propagation of radiation through the conservative (without absorption) optically thick atmosphere when the source of thermal radiation located far below the surface. In such case, the flux of propagating light is the same at every distance in an atmosphere. In the generalized Milne problem, the flux changes inside the atmosphere. The solutions of the both Milne problems give the angular distribution and polarization degree of emerging radiation. The considered problem depends on two dimensionless parameters W and (a+b), which depend on three parameters: $η$ - the ratio of optical depth due to free electrons to optical depth due to small dust grains; the absorption factor $\varepsilon$ of dust grains and two coefficients - $\bar b_1$ and $\bar b_2$, describing the averaged anisotropic dust grains. These coefficients obey the relation $\bar b_1+3\bar b_2=1$. The goal of the paper is to study the dependence of the radiation angular distribution and degree of polarization of emerging light on these parameters. Here we consider only continuum radiation.

We investigate a class of multi-dimensional two-component systems of Monge-Ampère type that can be viewed as generalisations of heavenly-type equations appearing in self-dual Ricci-flat geometry. Based on the Jordan-Kronecker theory of skew-symmetric matrix pencils, a classification of normal forms of such systems is obtained. All two-component systems of Monge-Ampère type turn out to be integrable, and can be represented as the commutativity conditions of parameter-dependent vector fields. Geometrically, systems of Monge-Ampère type are associated with linear sections of the Grassmannians. This leads to an invariant differential-geometric characterisation of the Monge-Ampère property.

A good linear correlation (R2>0.9997) of intensity ratios of GeCs2+/SiCs2+ and 74Ge-/30Si- secondary ions and post-ionized 70Ge+/28Si+ sputtered neutrals with Ge concentration was obtained. The calibration data were used for quantitative depth profiling of [10x(12.3 nm Si0.63Ge0.37/34 nm Si)] structures on Si. Satisfactory compliance of the quantified Ge concentration in SiGe layers with the data measured by high-resolution X-ray diffraction was obtained for both techniques. Both SIMS and SNMS experimental profiles were fitted using the Hofmann mixing-roughness-information depth (MRI) model. In case of TOF-SIMS the quality of the reconstruction was higher than for SNMS since not only the progressing roughening, but also crater effect and other processes unaccounted in the MRI simulation could have significant impact on plasma sputter depth profiling.

A possible role of quantum effects, such as tunneling and zero-point energy, in the structural dynamics of supercooled liquids is studied by dielectric spectroscopy. Presented results demonstrate that the liquids, bulk 3-methylpentane 3MP and confined normal and deuterated water have low glass transition temperature and unusually low for their class of materials steepness of the temperature dependence of structural relaxation, or fragility. Although we do not find any signs of tunneling in structural relaxation of these liquids, their unusually low fragility can be well described by the influence of the quantum fluctuations. Confined water presents especially interesting case in comparison to the earlier data on bulk low-density amorphous and vapor deposited water. Confined water exhibits much weaker isotope effect than bulk water, although the effect is still significant. We show that it can be ascribed to the change of the energy barrier for relaxation due to a decrease in the zero-point energy upon D-H substitution. The observed difference in the behavior of confined and bulk water demonstrates high sensitivity of quantum effects to the barrier heights and structure of water. Moreover, these results demonstrate that extrapolation of confined water properties to the bulk water behavior is questionable.

Using the known technique of resolvent matrices, we obtain the exact solution of vectorial radiative transfer equation for various sources of non-polarized radiation in semi-infinite atmosphere. Homogeneous, linear increasing and exponentially decreasing sources are considered. It is shown that this relation essentially depends upon the representation chosen for the fermionic fields with non-zero baryonic number (quarks). The calculations of the cosmological baryon asymmetry are based on the kinetic equation generalized to the case of non-stationary background. The effects of the finite interval of the integration over time are also included into consideration. All these effects combined lead to a noticeable deviation of the magnitude of the baryon asymmetry from the canonical results.

We report on thermoelectric properties of nanocrystalline Cr$_{\rm 1-x}$Si$_{\rm x}$ composite films. As-deposited amorphous films were transformed into a nanocrystalline state with average grain size of 10--20~nm by annealing during in-situ thermopower and electrical resistivity measurements. The partially crystallized films, i.e. the films consisting of crystalline grains dispersed in the amorphous matrix, are a new type of the heterogeneous material where the nanocrystalline phase plays the role of scattering centers giving rise to a large contribution to the thermopower. We show that the thermopower enhancement is related to the energy dependent scattering (energy filtering) of the charge carriers on the nanograin interfaces.

The energy spectrum of the 2D cavity magnetoexciton-polaritons has been investigated previously, using exact solutions for the Landau quantization of conduction electrons and heavy holes provided by the Rashba method [1]. Two lowest Landau quantization levels for electrons and three lowest Landau levels for heavy-holes, lead to the construction of the six lowest magnetoexciton sates. They consist of two dipole-active, two quadrupole-active, and the two forbidden quantum transitions from the ground state of the crystal to the magnetoexciton states. The interaction of the four optical-active magnetoexciton states with the cavity mode photons with a given circular polarization and with well-defined incidence direction leads to the creation of five magnetoexciton-polariton branches. The fifth order dispersion equation is examined by using numerical calculations and the second order dispersion equation is solved analytically, taking into account only one dipole-active magnetoexciton state. The effective polariton mass on the lower polariton branch, the Rabi frequency and the corresponding Hopfield coefficients are determined in dependence on the magnetic field strength, the Rashba spin-orbit coupling parameters and the electron and hole g-factors.

Analysis of temperature dependence of structural relaxation time in supercooled liquids revealed a qualitatively distinct feature - a sharp, cusp-like maxumum in the second derivative of its logarithm. It suggests that the super-Arrhenius behavior of the structural relaxation time in glass-forming liquids eventually crosses over to the Arrhenius behavior below the temperature of maximum, and there is no divergence of the relaxation time at non-zero temperature. The position of the maximum can be both above or below glass transition temperature, depending on the sensitivity of the structural relaxation time to changes in density. These results might turn the discussion of the glass transition to the new avenue - the origin of the limiting activation energy for structural relaxation at low temperatures.

SNO+ is a large liquid scintillator-based experiment located 2km underground at SNOLAB, Sudbury, Canada. It reuses the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory detector, consisting of a 12m diameter acrylic vessel which will be filled with about 780 tonnes of ultra-pure liquid scintillator. Designed as a multipurpose neutrino experiment, the primary goal of SNO+ is a search for the neutrinoless double-beta decay (0$νββ$) of 130Te. In Phase I, the detector will be loaded with 0.3% natural tellurium, corresponding to nearly 800 kg of 130Te, with an expected effective Majorana neutrino mass sensitivity in the region of 55-133 meV, just above the inverted mass hierarchy. Recently, the possibility of deploying up to ten times more natural tellurium has been investigated, which would enable SNO+ to achieve sensitivity deep into the parameter space for the inverted neutrino mass hierarchy in the future. Additionally, SNO+ aims to measure reactor antineutrino oscillations, low-energy solar neutrinos, and geoneutrinos, to be sensitive to supernova neutrinos, and to search for exotic physics. A first phase with the detector filled with water will begin soon, with the scintillator phase expected to start after a few months of water data taking. The 0$νββ$ Phase I is foreseen for 2017.

The origin of the g-factor of the two-dimensional (2D) electrons and holes moving in the periodic crystal lattice potential with the perpendicular magnetic and electric fields is discussed. The Pauli equation describing the Landau quantization accompanied by the Rashba spin-orbit coupling (RSOC) and Zeeman splitting (ZS) for 2D heavy holes with nonparabolic dispersion law is solved exactly. The solutions have the form of the pairs of the Landau quantization levels due to the spinor-type wave functions. The energy levels depend on amplitudes of the magnetic and electric fields, on the g-factor {g-h}, and on the parameter of nonparabolicity C. The dependences of two energy levels in any pair on the Zeeman parameter {Z_h}={g_h}{m_h}/4{m_0}, where {m_h} is the hole effective mass, are nonmonotonous and without intersections. The smallest distance between them at C=0 takes place at the value {Z_h}=n/2, where n is the order of the chirality terms determined by the RSOC and is the same for any quantum number of the Landau quantization.

The Hamiltonian describing the Coulomb electron - electron and the electron - radiation interactions was expressed in terms of the two-particle integral operators such as the density operators $\hatρ(\vec{Q})$ and $\hat{D}(\vec{Q})$ representing the optical and the acoustical plasmons and the magnetoexciton creation and annihilation operators $Ψ_{ex}^{\dagger}({\vec{k}_{||}}),Ψ_{ex}^{}({\vec{k}_{||}})$ with in - plane wave vectors ${\vec{k}_{||}}$ and $\vec{Q}$. The polariton creation and annihilation operators $L_{ex}^{\dagger}({\vec{k}_{||}}),L_{ex}^{}({\vec{k}_{||}})$ were introduced using the Hopfield coefficients and neglecting the antiresonant terms because the photon energies exceed the energy of the cavity mode. The BEC of the magnetoexciton - polariton takes place on the lower polariton branch in the point ${\vec{k}_{||}}=0$ with the quantized value of the longitudinal component of the light wave vector, as in the point of the cavity mode.

In the series of recent publications we have proposed a novel approach to the classification of integrable differential/difference equations in 3D based on the requirement that hydrodynamic reductions of the corresponding dispersionless limits are `inherited' by the dispersive equations. In this paper we extend this to the fully discrete case. Our only constraint is that the initial ansatz possesses a non-degenerate dispersionless limit (this is the case for all known Hirota-type equations). Based on the method of deformations of hydrodynamic reductions, we classify discrete 3D integrable Hirota-type equations within various particularly interesting subclasses. Our method can be viewed as an alternative to the conventional multi-dimensional consistency approach.

Freely oriented small anisotropic grains and molecules depolarize radiation both in single scattering and in the process of multiple scattering. Especially large depolarization occurs for resonant scattering corresponding to the electron transitions between the energy levels with very different quantum numbers. The existence of light absorption also changes essentially the angular distribution and polarization of radiation, outgoing from an atmosphere. In the present paper we consider these effects in detail both for continuum radiation and for resonant lines. Because the term describing the depolarization deals with isotropic radiation, we consider the axially symmetric part of radiation. We derived the formulas for observed intensity and polarization using the invariance-principles both for continuum and resonant scattering. We confine ourselves to two problems - the diffuse reflection of the light beam from semi-infinite atmosphere, and the Milne problem.

We present a model independent approach for the reconstruction of the atomic concentration profile in a nanoscale layered structure, as measured using the X-ray fluorescence yield modulated by an X-ray standing wave (XSW). The approach is based on the direct regularized solution of the system of linear equations that characterizes the fluorescence yield. The suggested technique was optimized for, but not limited to, the analysis of periodic layered structures where the XSW is formed under Bragg conditions. The developed approach was applied to the reconstruction of the atomic concentration profiles for LaN/BN multilayers with 50 periods of 35 A thick layers. The object is especially difficult to analyse with traditional methods, as the estimated thickness of the interface region between the constituent materials is comparable to the individual layer thicknesses. However, using the suggested technique it was possible to reconstruct the La atomic profile, showing that the La atoms stay localized within the LaN layers and interfaces and do not diffuse into the BN layer. The atomic distributions were found with an accuracy of 1 A. The analysis of the Kr fluorescence yield showed that Kr atoms originating from the sputter gas are trapped in both the LaN-on-BN and the BN-on-LaN interfaces.

With the use of the general variational principle of self-organization of systems with varying constraints, namely the principle of dynamical harmonization of systems presented in the first work of the cycle, we advance an approach to the control over the evolution of systems of many particles. The geometric nature of this principle is analyzed. On the basis of the de Broglie--Bohm representation of the Schrödinger equation, we establish a connection of the nonlocality and the coherence of the systems of many particles with mass entropic forces. The defining role of a coherent acceleration and a space-time curvature in the control over the synthesis of new structures in systems with varying constraints is demonstrated. The basic criteria for electromagnetic fields to initiate the processes of self-organizing synthesis and for the quantum properties of a nonlocality on macroscopic scales, which are necessary for the self-organizing synthesis, are formulated.

We consider the influence of the Fermi statistics of nucleons on the binding energy of a new type of nuclear structures such as fractal nuclear clusters (fractal isomers of nuclei). It is shown that the fractal nuclear isomers possess a wide spectrum of binding energies that exceed, in many cases, the values known at the present time. The transition of the nuclear matter in the form of ordinary nuclei (drops of the nuclear fluid) in the state with the fractal structure or in the form of bubble nuclei opens new sources of energy and has huge perspectives. This transition is based on a new state of matter - collective coherently correlated state. It manifests itself, first of all, in the property of nonlocality of nuclear multiparticle processes. We develop a phenomenological theory of the binding energy of nuclear fractal structures and modify the Bethe - Weizsäcker formula for nuclear clusters with the mass number A, charge Z, and fractal dimension D_f. The consideration of fractal nuclear isomers allows one to interpret the experimental results on a new level of the comprehension of processes of the nuclear dynamics. The possibility to determine the fractal dimension of nuclear systems with the help of the method of nuclear dipole resonance for fractal isomers is discussed. The basic relations for fractal electroneutral structures such as the electron-nucleus plasma of fractal isomers are presented.

Physical fundamentals of the self-organizing theory for the system with varying constraints are considered. A variation principle, specifically the principle of dynamic harmonization as a generalization of the Gauss-Hertz principle for the systems with varying internal structure is formulated. In compliance with this principle the system evolves through dynamics of the processes leading to harmonization of the internal multiscale structure of the system and its connections with external actions as a result of minimizing the dynamic harmonization function. Main principles of the shell model of self-organization under the action of the dominating entropic disturbance are formulated.

The cylindrical hohlraum with gold walls is heated by a frequency-doubled ($λ_l = 526.5$ $μm$) $1.4$ $ns$ long laser pulse with the total energy of $E_l = 180$ $J$. At the laser spot, the peak matter and radiation temperatures of, respectively, $T \approx 380$ $eV$ and $T_r \approx 120$ $eV$ are observed. X-rays from the hohlraum heat the attached carbon foam with a mean density of $ρ_C = 2$ $mg/cm^3$ to a temperature of $T \approx 25$ $eV$. The simulation shows that the carbon ionization degree ($Z \approx 3.75$) and its column density stay relatively stable (within variations of about $\pm7\%$) long enough to conduct the ion-stop** measurements. Also, it is found that a special attention should be paid to the shock wave, emerging from the X-ray heated copper support plate, which at later times may significantly distort the carbon column density traversed by the fast ions.

This current has the correct singularity structure and, naturally, does not lead to contradictions with a partial conservation of the axial current (PCAC). General properties of charge carrier transport in disordered organic materials are discussed. Spatial correlation between energies of transport sites determines the form of the drift mobility field dependence. Particular kind of spatial correlation in a disordered material depends on its nature. Mobility field dependences have to be different in polar and nonpolar materials. Different methods of mobility calculation from the shape of photocurrent transient are analyzed. A widely used method is very sensitive to the variation of the shape of the transient and sometimes produces results that effectively masquerade the true dependence of the mobility on electric field or trap concentration. Arguments in favor of the better, more reliable method are suggested. Charge transport in materials containing charged traps is considered without using the isolated trap approximation and this leads to qualitatively different results. They indicate that the effect of charged traps can hardly be responsible for experimentally observed transport properties of disordered organic materials.

An appropriate model for the random energy landscape in organic glasses is a spatially correlated Gaussian field, generated by randomly located and oriented dipoles and quadrupoles. Correlation properties of energetic disorder directly dictates the mobility dependence on the applied electric field. Electrostatic disorder is significantly modified in the vicinity of the electrode that affects injection properties. Correlated Gaussian field forms clusters. We suggest a simple method to estimate an asymptotics of the cluster distribution on size for deep clusters where a value of the field on each site is much greater than the rms disorder. Hop** transport in organic glasses in the case of high carrier density could be described in terms of the effective density-dependent temperature.

An appropriate model for the random energy landscape in organic glasses is a spatially correlated Gaussian field. We calculated the distribution of the average value of a Gaussian random field in a finite domain. The results of the calculation demonstrate a strong dependence of the width of the distribution on the spatial correlations of the field. Comparison with the simulation results for the distribution of the size of the cluster indicates that the distribution of an average field could serve as a useful tool for the estimation of the asymptotic behavior of the distribution of the size of the clusters for "deep" clusters where value of the field on each site is much greater than the rms disorder. We also demonstrate significant modification of the properties of energetic disorder in organic glasses at the vicinity of the electrode.

Behavior of the carrier drift mobility was studied at room temperature over a broad range of electric field and sample thickness. A flat plateau followed by $j\propto t^{-2}$ current decay is the most common feature of the simulated transients. Poole-Frenkel mobility field dependence was confirmed over 5 to 200 V/$μ$m as well as its independence of the sample thickness. Universality of transients with respect to both field and sample thickness has been observed. A simple phenomenological model to describe simulated current transients has been proposed. Simulation results agree well with the reported Poole-Frenkel slope and shape of the transients for a prototype molecularly doped polymer.

General properties of the transport of charge carriers (electrons and holes) in disordered organic materials are discussed. It was demonstrated that the dominant part of the total energetic disorder in organic material is usually provided by the electrostatic disorder, generated by randomly located and oriented dipoles and quadrupoles. For this reason this disorder is strongly spatially correlated. Spatial correlation directly governs the field dependence of the carrier drift mobility. Shape of the current transients, which is of primary importance for a correct determination of the carrier mobility, is considered. A notable feature of the electrostatic disorder is its modification in the vicinity of the electrode, and this modification takes place without modification of the structure of the material. It is shown how this phenomenon affects characteristics of the charge injection. We consider also effect of inter-charge interaction on charge transport.

We present the results of Monte-Carlo simulations of the charge carrier transport in a disordered molecular system containing spatial and energetic disorders using the dipolar glass model. Model parameters of the material were chosen to fit a typical polar organic photoconductor polycarbonate doped with 30% of aromatic hydrazone, whose transport properties are well documented in literature. Simulated carrier mobility demonstrates a usual Poole-Frenkel field dependence and its slope is very close to the experimental value without using any adjustable parameter. At room temperature transients are universal with respect to the electric field and transport layer thickness. At the same time, carrier mobility does not depend on the layer thickness and transients develop a well-defined plateau where the current does not depend on time, thus demonstrating a non-dispersive transport regime. Tails of the transients decay as power law with the exponent close to -2. This particular feature indicates that transients are close to the boundary between dispersive and non-dispersive transport regimes. Shapes of the simulated transients are in very good agreement with the experimental ones. In summary, we provide a first verification of a self-consistency of the dipolar glass transport model, where major transport parameters, extracted from the experimental transport data, are then used in the transport simulation, and the resulting mobility field dependence and transients are in very good agreement with the initial experimental data.

The presence of convective and turbulent motions, and the evolution of magnetic fields give rise to existence of temperature fluctuations in stellar atmospheres, active galactic nuclei and other cosmic objects. We observe the time and surface averaged radiation fluxes from these objects. These fluxes depend on both the mean temperature and averaged temperature fluctuations. The usual photosphere models do not take into account the temperature fluctuations and use only the distribution of the mean temperature into surface layers of stars. We investigate how the temperature fluctuations change the spectra in continuum assuming that the degree of fluctuations (the ratio of mean temperature fluctuation to the mean temperature) is small. We suggest the procedure of calculation of continuum spectra, which takes into account the temperature fluctuations. As a first step one uses the usual model of a photosphere without fluctuations. The observed spectrum is presented as a part depending on mean temperature and the additional part proportional to quadratic value of fluctuation degree. It is shown that for some forms of absorption factor the additional part in Wien's region of spectrum can be evaluated directly from observed spectrum. This part depends on the first and second wavelength derivatives, which can be calculated numerically from the observed spectrum. Our estimates show that the temperature dependence of absorption factors is very important by calculation of continuum spectra corrections. As the examples we present the estimates for a few stars from Pulkovo spectrophotometric catalog and for the Sun. The influence of temperature fluctuations on color indices of observed cosmic objects is also investigated.

Spectral properties of the x-ray pulses, generated by perfectly uniform cylindrical implosions of tungsten plasma with parameters typical of wire array z-pinches, are investigated under the simplifying assumption that the final stage of the kinetic-to-radiant energy conversion is not affected by the magnetic field. The x-ray emission is shown to be generated within a narrow (sub-micron) radiation-dominated stagnation shock front with a "supercritical" amplitude. The structure of the stagnation shock is investigated by using two independent radiation-hydrodynamics codes, and by constructing an approximate analytical model. The x-ray spectra are calculated for two values of the plasma column mass, 0.3 mg/cm and 6 mg/cm, with a newly developed two-dimensional radiation-hydrodynamics code RALEF-2D. The hard component of the spectrum (with a blackbody-fit temperature of 0.5-0.6 keV for the 6-mg/cm mass) originates from a narrow peak of the electron temperature inside the stagnation shock. The softer main component emerges from an extended halo, where the primary shock radiation is reemitted by colder layers of the imploding plasma. Our calculated x-ray spectrum for the 6-mg/cm tungsten column agrees well with the published Sandia experimental data (Foord et al., 2004, Phys. Rev. Lett., vol. 93, 055002).

Abstract:
Heavy neutrino nu_h with m_h < 300MeV/c^2 can be effectively searched for in kaon decays. We put upper limits on mixing matrix element |U_mu_h}|^2 for radiatively decaying nu_h from K->mu nu_h (nu_h -> nu gamma) decay chain in the following parameter region: 30MeV/c^2 < m_h < 80MeV/c^2; 10^{-11}sec < tau_h < 10^{-9}sec. For the whole region |U_{mu h}|^2 < 5 x 10^{-5} for Majorana type of nu_h and…

We develop a theory of integrable dispersive deformations of 2+1 dimensional Hamiltonian systems of hydrodynamic type following the scheme proposed by Dubrovin and his collaborators in 1+1 dimensions. Our results show that the multi-dimensional situation is far more rigid, and generic Hamiltonians are not deformable. As an illustration we discuss a particular class of two-component Hamiltonian systems, establishing the triviality of first order deformations and classifying Hamiltonians possessing nontrivial deformations of the second order.
