Partial-order plans in AI planning facilitate execution flexibility and several other tasks, such as plan reuse, modification, and decomposition, due to their less constrained nature. A Partial-Order Plan (POP) allows two actions with no ordering between them, thus providing the flexibility of executing actions in different sequences. This flexibility can be further extended by enabling parallel execution of actions in a POP to reduce its overall execution time. While extensive studies exist on improving the flexibility of a POP by optimizing its action orderings through plan deordering and reordering, there has been limited focus on the flexibility of executing actions concurrently in a plan. Execution concurrency in a POP can be achieved by incorporating action non-concurrency constraints, specifying which actions can not be executed in parallel. This work formalizes the conditions for non-concurrency constraints to transform a POP into a parallel plan. We also introduce an algorithm to enhance the plan's concurrency by optimizing resource utilization through substitutions of its subplans with respect to the corresponding planning task. Our algorithm employs block deordering that eliminates orderings in a POP by encapsulating coherent actions in blocks, and then exploits blocks as candidate subplans for substitutions. Experiments over the benchmark problems from International Planning Competitions (IPC) exhibit significant improvement in plan concurrency, specifically, with improvement in 25% of the plans, and an overall increase of 2.1% in concurrency.

Partial-order plans in AI planning facilitate execution flexibility due to their less-constrained nature. Maximizing plan flexibility has been studied through the notions of plan deordering, and plan reordering. Plan deordering removes unnecessary action orderings within a plan, while plan reordering modifies them arbitrarily to minimize action orderings. This study, in contrast with traditional plan deordering and reordering strategies, improves a plan's flexibility by substituting its subplans with actions outside the plan for a planning problem. We exploit block deordering, which eliminates orderings in a POP by encapsulating coherent actions in blocks, to construct action blocks as candidate subplans for substitutions. In addition, this paper introduces a pruning technique for eliminating redundant actions within a BDPO plan. We also evaluate our approach when combined with MaxSAT-based reorderings. Our experimental result demonstrates a significant improvement in plan execution flexibility on the benchmark problems from International Planning Competitions (IPC), maintaining good coverage and execution time.

Clinical texts, such as admission notes, discharge summaries, and progress notes, contain rich and valuable information that can be used for various clinical outcome prediction tasks. However, applying large language models, such as BERT-based models, to clinical texts poses two major challenges: the limitation of input length and the diversity of data sources. This paper proposes a novel method to preserve the knowledge of long clinical texts using aggregated ensembles of large language models. Unlike previous studies which use model ensembling or text aggregation methods separately, we combine ensemble learning with text aggregation and train multiple large language models on two clinical outcome tasks: mortality prediction and length of stay prediction. We show that our method can achieve better results than baselines, ensembling, and aggregation individually, and can improve the performance of large language models while handling long inputs and diverse datasets. We conduct extensive experiments on the admission notes from the MIMIC-III clinical database by combining multiple unstructured and high-dimensional datasets, demonstrating our method's effectiveness and superiority over existing approaches. We also provide a comprehensive analysis and discussion of our results, highlighting our method's applications and limitations for future research in the domain of clinical healthcare. The results and analysis of this study is supportive of our method assisting in clinical healthcare systems by enabling clinical decision-making with robust performance overcoming the challenges of long text inputs and varied datasets.

This paper focuses on enhancing Bengali Document Layout Analysis (DLA) using the YOLOv8 model and innovative post-processing techniques. We tackle challenges unique to the complex Bengali script by employing data augmentation for model robustness. After meticulous validation set evaluation, we fine-tune our approach on the complete dataset, leading to a two-stage prediction strategy for accurate element segmentation. Our ensemble model, combined with post-processing, outperforms individual base architectures, addressing issues identified in the BaDLAD dataset. By leveraging this approach, we aim to advance Bengali document analysis, contributing to improved OCR and document comprehension and BaDLAD serves as a foundational resource for this endeavor, aiding future research in the field. Furthermore, our experiments provided key insights to incorporate new strategies into the established solution.

In this article we characterize the minimal $K_f$ when $f$ has a nonzero limit at the point $1$ or if its derivative $f'$ is bounded near $1$. We also consider the role of the zero set of $f$ in determining $K_f$. Finally we prove a result linking universality in the sense of Rota with cyclicity.

We report the first direct measurement of differential transfer cross sections using a Recoil Mass Spectrometer. Absolute differential $1p$ and $2p$-strip** cross sections at $θ_\mathrm{c.m.}=180^\circ$ have been determined for the system $^{16}$O+$^{142}$Ce by detecting the heavier target-like ions at the focal plane of the Heavy Ion Reaction Analyzer. Focal plane spectra have been compared with the results of a semi-microscopic Monte-Carlo simulation to unambiguously identify the transfer channels. Transmission efficiency of the target-like ions through the spectrometer has also been estimated using the simulation. The methodology adopted in this work can be applied to other recoil separators. The measured excitation functions for the reactions $^{142}\mathrm{Ce(}^{16}\mathrm{O,}^{15}\mathrm{N)}^{143}\mathrm{Pr}$ and $^{142}\mathrm{Ce(}^{16}\mathrm{O,}^{14}\mathrm{C)}^{144}\mathrm{Nd}$ have been compared with coupled reaction channel calculations. An excellent matching between measurement and theory has been obtained. For $1p$-strip**, major contribution to the cross section has been found to be the transfer of a proton from $^{16}\mathrm{O}$ to the $2d_{\frac{5}{2}}$ excited state of $^{143}\mathrm{Pr}$, leaving behind $^{15}\mathrm{N}$ in the $1p_{\frac{1}{2}}$ ground state. Transfer of a cluster of two protons from $^{16}\mathrm{O}$ to the $2^{+}$ excited state of $^{144}\mathrm{Nd}$, resulting in $^{14}\mathrm{C}$ in the $0^{+}$ ground state, appears to be the most probable cause for $2p$-strip**. Measured transfer probabilities for $1p$ and $2p$ channels have been compared with Time-Dependent Hartree-Fock calculations. Proton strip** channels are found to be more favourable compared to neutron pick-up channels. However, the theory overpredicts measurement hinting at the need for extended approaches with explicit treatment of pairing correlations in the calculations.

Class Scheduling is a highly constrained task. Educational institutes spend a lot of resources, in the form of time and manual computation, to find a satisficing schedule that fulfills all the requirements. A satisficing class schedule accommodates all the students to all their desired courses at convenient timing. The scheduler also needs to take into account the availability of course teachers on the given slots. With the added limitation of available classrooms, the number of solutions satisfying all constraints in this huge search-space, further decreases.
This paper proposes an efficient system to generate class schedules that can fulfill every possible need of a typical university. Though it is primarily a fixed-credit scheduler, it can be adjusted for open-credit systems as well. The model is designed in MiniZinc and solved using various off-the-shelf solvers. The proposed scheduling system can find a balanced schedule for a moderate-sized educational institute in less than a minute.

The Invariant Subspace Problem (ISP) for Hilbert spaces asks if every bounded linear operator has a non-trivial closed invariant subspace. Due to the existence of universal operators (in the sense of Rota), the ISP may be solved by describing the invariant subspaces of these operators alone. We characterize all anaytic Toeplitz operators $T_φ$ on the Hardy space $H^2(\mathbb{D}^n)$ over the polydisk $\mathbb{D}^n$ for $n>1$ whose adjoints satisfy the Caradus criterion for universality, that is, when $T_φ^*$ is surjective and has infinite dimensional kernel. In particular if $φ$ in a non-constant inner function on $\mathbb{D}^n$, or a polynomial in the ring $\mathbb{C}[z_1,\ldots,z_n]$ that has zeros in $\mathbb{D}^n$ but is zero-free on $\mathbb{T}^n$, then $T_φ^*$ is universal for $H^2(\mathbb{D}^n)$. The analogs of these results for $n=1$ are not true.

We investigate the relationship between the complex symmetry of composition operators $C_φf=f\circ φ$ induced on the classical Hardy space $H^2(\mathbb{D})$ by an analytic self-map $φ$ of the open unit disk $\mathbb{D}$ and its Koenigs eigenfunction. A generalization of orthogonality known as conjugate-orthogonality will play a key role in this work. We show that if $φ$ is a Schröder map (fixes a point $a\in \mathbb{D}$ with $0<|φ'(a)|<1$) and $σ$ is its Koenigs eigenfunction, then $C_φ$ is complex symmetric if and only if $(σ^n)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ is complete and conjugate-orthogonal in $H^2(\mathbb{D})$. We study the conjugate-orthogonality of Koenigs sequences with some concrete examples. We use these results to show that commutants of complex symmetric composition operators with Schröder symbols consist entirely of complex symmetric operators.

A Hilbert space operator $U$ is called universal (in the sense of Rota) if every Hilbert space operator is similar to a multiple of $U$ restricted to one of its invariant subspaces. It follows that the Invariant Subspace Problem for Hilbert spaces is equivalent to the statement that all minimal invariant subspaces for $U$ are one dimensional. In this article we characterize all linear fractional composition operators $C_φ f=f\circφ$ that have universal translates on both the classical Hardy spaces $H^2(\mathbb{C}_+)$ and $H^2(\mathbb{D})$ of the half-plane and the unit disk respectively. The surprising new example is the composition operator on $H^2(\mathbb{D})$ with affine symbol $φ_a(z)=az+(1-a)$ for $0<a<1$. This leads to strong characterizations of minimal invariant subspaces and eigenvectors of $C_{φ_a}$ and offers an alternative approach to the ISP.

We propose some extensions of the quark potential model to hybrids, fit them to the lattice data and use them for the purpose of calculating the masses, root mean square radii and wave functions at the origin of the conventional and hybrid charmonium mesons. We treat the ground and excited gluonic field between a quark and an antiquark as in the Born-Oppenheimer expansion, and use the shooting method to numerically solve the required Schr$\ddot{\textrm{o}}$dinger equation for the radial wave functions; from these wave functions we calculate the mesonic properties. For masses we also check through a Crank Nichelson discretization. For hybrid charmonium mesons, we consider the exotic quantum number states with $ J^{PC} = 0^{+ -}, 1^{- +}$ and $2^{+ -}$.
