Class imbalance poses a major challenge in different classification tasks, which is a frequently occurring scenario in many real-world applications. Data resampling is considered to be the standard approach to address this issue. The goal of the technique is to balance the class distribution by generating new samples or eliminating samples from the data. A wide variety of sampling techniques have been proposed over the years to tackle this challenging problem. Sampling techniques can also be incorporated into the ensemble learning framework to obtain more generalized prediction performance. Balanced Random Forest (BRF) and SMOTE-Bagging are some of the popular ensemble approaches. In this study, we propose a modification to the BRF classifier to enhance the prediction performance. In the original algorithm, the Random Undersampling (RUS) technique was utilized to balance the bootstrap samples. However, randomly eliminating too many samples from the data leads to significant data loss, resulting in a major decline in performance. We propose to alleviate the scenario by incorporating a novel hybrid sampling approach to balance the uneven class distribution in each bootstrap sub-sample. Our proposed hybrid sampling technique, when incorporated into the framework of the Random Forest classifier, termed as iBRF: improved Balanced Random Forest classifier, achieves better prediction performance than other sampling techniques used in imbalanced classification tasks. Experiments were carried out on 44 imbalanced datasets on which the original BRF classifier produced an average MCC score of 47.03% and an F1 score of 49.09%. Our proposed algorithm outperformed the approach by producing a far better MCC score of 53.04% and an F1 score of 55%. The results obtained signify the superiority of the iBRF algorithm and its potential to be an effective sampling technique in imbalanced learning.

With unorganized, unplanned and improper use of limited raw materials, an abundant amount of waste is being produced, which is harmful to our environment and ecosystem. While traditional linear production lines fail to address far-reaching issues like waste production and a shorter product life cycle, a prospective concept, namely circular economy (CE), has shown promising prospects to be adopted at industrial and governmental levels. CE aims to complete the product life cycle loop by bringing out the highest values from raw materials in the design phase and later on by reusing, recycling, and remanufacturing. Innovative technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning(ML) provide vital assistance in effectively adopting and implementing CE in real-world practices. This study explores the adoption and integration of applied AI techniques in CE. First, we conducted bibliometric analysis on a collection of 104 SCOPUS indexed documents exploring the critical research criteria in AI and CE. Forty papers were picked to conduct a systematic literature review from these documents. The selected documents were further divided into six categories: sustainable development, reverse logistics, waste management, supply chain management, recycle & reuse, and manufacturing development. Comprehensive research insights and trends have been extracted and delineated. Finally, the research gap needing further attention has been identified and the future research directions have also been discussed.

The world is facing a tough situation due to the catastrophic pandemic caused by novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The number people affected by this virus are increasing exponentially day by day and the number has already crossed 6.4 million. As no vaccine has been discovered yet, the early detection of patients and isolation is the only and most effective way to reduce the spread of the virus. Detecting infected persons from chest X-Ray by using Deep Neural Networks, can be applied as a time and laborsaving solution. In this study, we tried to detect Covid-19 by classification of Covid-19, pneumonia and normal chest X-Rays. We used five different Convolutional Pre-Trained Neural Network models (VGG16, VGG19, Xception, InceptionV3 and Resnet50) and compared their performance. VGG16 and VGG19 shows precise performance in classification. Both models can classify between three kinds of X-Rays with an accuracy over 92%. Another part of our study was to find the impact of weather factors (temperature, humidity, sun hour and wind speed) on this pandemic using Decision Tree Regressor. We found that temperature, humidity and sun-hour jointly hold 85.88% impact on escalation of Covid-19 and 91.89% impact on death due to Covid-19 where humidity has 8.09% impact on death. We also tried to predict the death of an individual based on age, gender, country, and location due to COVID-19 using the LogisticRegression, which can predict death of an individual with a model accuracy of 94.40%.

The agricultural sector is still lagging behind from all other sectors in terms of using the newest technologies. For production, the latest machines are being introduced and adopted. However, pre-harvest and post-harvest processing are still done by following traditional methodologies while tracing, storing, and publishing agricultural data. As a result, farmers are not getting deserved payment, consumers are not getting enough information before buying their product, and intermediate person/processors are increasing retail prices. Using blockchain, smart contracts, and IoT devices, we can fully automate the process while establishing absolute trust among all these parties. In this research, we explored the different aspects of using blockchain and smart contracts with the integration of IoT devices in pre-harvesting and post-harvesting segments of agriculture. We proposed a system that uses blockchain as the backbone while IoT devices collect data from the field level, and smart contracts regulate the interaction among all these contributing parties. The system implementation has been shown in diagrams and with proper explanations. Gas costs of every operation have also been attached for a better understanding of the costs. We also analyzed the system in terms of challenges and advantages. The overall impact of this research was to show the immutable, available, transparent, and robustly secure characteristics of blockchain in the field of agriculture while also emphasizing the vigorous mechanism that the collaboration of blockchain, smart contract, and IoT presents.

The modulational instability (MI) criteria of dust-ion-acoustic (DIA) waves (DIAWs) have been investigated in a four-component pair-ion plasma having inertial pair-ions, inertialess non-thermal non-extensive electrons, and immobile negatively charged massive dust grains. A nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) is derived by using reductive perturbation method. The nonlinear and dispersive coefficients of the NLSE can predict the modulationally stable and unstable parametric regimes of DIAWs and associated first and second order DIA rogue waves (DIARWs). The MI growth rate and the configuration of the DIARWs are examined, and it is found that the MI growth rate increases (decreases) with increasing the number density of the negatively charged dust grains in the presence (absence) of the negative ions. It is also observed that the amplitude and width of the DIARWs increase (decrease) with the negative (positive) ion mass. The implications of the results to laboratory and space plasmas are briefly discussed.

It can be seen that under the consideration of inertial warm ions along with inertial negatively charged dust grains, the plasma system supports both fast and slow DIA modes. The charge state and number density of the ion and dust grain are responsible to change the instability conditions of the DIAWs and the configuration of DIARWs. These results are to be considered the cornerstone for explaining the real puzzles in space and laboratory dusty plasmas.

A nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) has been derived by employing reductive perturbation method for investigating the modulational instability of dust-ion-acoustic waves (DIAWs) in a four-component plasma having stationary negatively charged dust grains, inertial warm ions, and inertialess non-thermal electrons and positrons. It is observed that under consideration, the plasma system supports both modulationally stable and unstable domains, which are determined by the sign of the dispersive and nonlinear coefficients of NLSE, of the DIAWs. It is also found that the nonlinearity as well as the height and width of the first and second-order rogue waves increases with the non-thermality of electron and positron. The relevancy of our present investigation to the observations in space plasmas is pinpointed.

A theoretical investigation has been made to understand the mechanism of the formation of both bright and dark envelope soltions associated with dust-ion-acoustic waves (DIAWs) propagating in an unmagnetized three component dusty plasma medium having inertial warm positive ions and negative dust grains, and inertialess non-thermal Cairns' distributed electrons. A nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) is derived by employing reductive perturbation method. The effects of plasma parameters, viz., $γ_2$ (the ratio of the positive ion temperature to electron temperature times the charge state of ion) and $ν$ (the ratio of the charge state of negative dust grain to positive ion) on the modulational instability of DIAW which is governed by NLSE, are extensively studied. It is found that increasing the value of the ion (electron) temperature reduces (enhances) the critical wave number ($k_c$). The results of our present theoretical work may be used to interpret the nonlinear electrostatic structures which can exist in many astrophysical environments and laboratory plasmas.

In this paper, we have performed first principles calculations to study optoelectronic, thermodynamic and transport properties of Fe2TiGe using density functional theory (DFT). The semi-classical Boltzmann transport theory is used to investigate transport properties. The calculated energy bands indicate that Fe2TiGe is an indirect band gap semiconductor with band gap 0.734 eV for TB-mBJ functional. Fe-3d and Ti-3d orbitals have the dominant contributions to the density of states due to strong hybridization between them. The maximum value of absorption coefficient is found to be 224x10^4 cm-1 in the ultraviolet region. It is found that the static refractive index of Fe2TiGe is 5.18 which is very close to that of Ge and much higher than that of GaAs. The obtained refractive index implies that Fe2TiGe is a potential optical material that can be used in optical devices such as photonic crystal, wave guides and solar cells. The Debye temperature at ambient condition is 570 K and decreases slowly with temperature. The Gruneisen parameter at ambient pressure and 300 K is 2.1 and slightly higher than that of PbTe (1.5). The calculated Seebeck coefficient and power factor at 300 K using TB-mBJ functional are 271x10^-6 VK^-1 and 5.9x10^10 Wcm^-1K^-2, respectively. Therefore, the calculated optoelectronic properties implies that Fe2TiGe is a potential candidate for photovoltaic device applications.

The modulational instability (MI) of the dust-acoustic waves (DAWs) in an electron-positron-ion-dust plasma (containing super-thermal electrons, positrons and ions along with negatively charged adiabatic dust grains) is investigated by the analysis of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE). To derive the NLSE, the reductive perturbation method has been employed. Two different parametric regions for stable and unstable DAWs are observed. The presence of super-thermal electrons, positrons and ions significantly modifies both the stable and unstable regions. The critical wave number $k_c$ (at which modulational instability sets in) depends on the super-thermal electron, positron, and ion, and adiabatic dust concentrations.

Ultra-compact, densely integrated optical components manufactured on a CMOS-foundry platform are highly desirable for optical information processing and electronic-photonic co-integration. However, the large spatial extent of evanescent waves arising from nanoscale confinement, ubiquitous in silicon photonic devices, causes significant cross-talk and scattering loss. Here, we demonstrate that anisotropic all-dielectric metamaterials open a new degree of freedom in total internal reflection to shorten the decay length of evanescent waves. We experimentally show the reduction of cross-talk by greater than 30 times and the bending loss by greater than 3 times in densely integrated, ultra-compact photonic circuit blocks. Our prototype all-dielectric metamaterial-waveguide achieves a low propagation loss of approximately 3.7 dB/cm, comparable to those of silicon strip waveguides. Our approach marks a departure from interference-based confinement as in photonic crystals or slot waveguides, which utilize nanoscale field enhancement. Its ability to suppress evanescent waves without substantially increasing the propagation loss shall pave the way for all-dielectric metamaterial-based dense integration.
