Source footprints represent an inherent problem to full-waveform inversion (FWI). They are caused by the high data sensitivity to the model parameters in the vicinity of the seismic sources and can be exacerbated by source-related errors in the modeling operator. We propose a simple, effective, and efficient method to remove source footprints in FWI when sources are located near or inside the volume of interest while robustly updating the model in their vicinity. The method uses illumination redundancy and extends the model along sources. Each source updates one component of the extended model, and a regularization term ensures that these components are mutually consistent, except for their respective footprints. We illustrate the effectiveness of our method on the elastic inversion of synthetic guided waves. We show its robustness in the presence of source-related errors and its superiority over other well-known approaches, such as illumination compensation by inverse pseudo-Hessian and gradient preconditioning. We apply the method to a field distributed acoustic sensing dataset with elastic guided waves generated by perforation shots in an unconventional shale reservoir. The method is able to retrieve localized reservoir anomalies with higher elastic velocities, indicating possible lower pore pressure or tighter shale regions.

Distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) fibers have enabled various geophysical applications in unconventional reservoirs. Combined with perforation shots, a DAS fiber can record valuable guided waves that propagate in the reservoir formation and carry information about its properties. However, the representation of perforation shots as seismic sources, needed to conduct quantitative analysis, remains unknown. We model such sources using a superposition of three mechanisms for which we derive the moment tensor representation. Using field DAS data recorded in the same well where the perforations are located, we establish a workflow to invert the resolvable components of the total moment tensor for 100 different perforation shots. By scrutinizing the inversion results, we conjecture that the moment tensor can indicate how effectively a perforation shot creates micro-cracks in the surrounding rock. Furthermore, our inverted moment tensors form the basis for a subsequent elastic full-waveform inversion.

Microseismic analysis is a valuable tool for fracture characterization in the earth's subsurface. As distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) fibers are deployed at depth inside wells, they hold vast potential for high-resolution microseismic analysis. However, the accurate detection of microseismic signals in continuous DAS data is challenging and time-consuming. We design, train, and deploy a deep learning model to detect microseismic events in DAS data automatically. We create a curated dataset of nearly 7,000 manually-selected events and an equal number of background noise examples. We optimize the deep learning model's network architecture together with its training hyperparameters by Bayesian optimization. The trained model achieves an accuracy of 98.6% on our benchmark dataset and even detects low-amplitude events missed during manual labeling. Our methodology detects more than 100,000 events allowing the reconstruction of spatio-temporal fracture development far more accurately and efficiently than would have been feasible by traditional methods.

We calculate the nonrelativistic pair annihilation cross sections via $W$-strahlung from leptonic final states, $χχ$ $\to$ $W\ell\barν$, and compare them with the contributions of the relevant two-body final states. We explore the case that sleptons lie below the TeV scale, while squarks are extremely heavy. It is found that the electroweak bremsstrahlung can give a dominant contribution to the cross section for some parameter regions which include slepton coannihilation regions with the observed relic abundance. We also evaluate the neutrino spectra at injection in the Sun. It is shown that energetic neutrinos via weak bremsstrahlung processes can be dominant over contributions of the two-body final states.

We investigate current observational constraints on this model by applying the type Ia supernovae, the baryon acoustic oscillation and the CMB anisotropy data. It is shown that a nonvanishing interaction rate is favored by the observations. The serendipitous detection of stellar occultations by Outer Solar System objects is a powerful method for ascertaining the small end ($r \lesssim 15$ km) of the size distribution of Kuiper Belt Objects and may potentially allow the exploration of objects as far out as the Oort Cloud. The design and implementation of an occultation survey is aided by a detailed understanding of how diffraction and observational parameters affect the detection of occultation events. In this study, stellar occultations are simulated, accounting for diffraction effects, finite source sizes, finite bandwidths, stellar spectra, sampling, and signal-to-noise. Finally, the possibility of detecting small Outer Solar System objects from the Kuiper Belt all the way out to the Oort Cloud is explored for three photometric systems: a proposed space telescope, Whipple (Kaplan et al. 2003), the Taiwanese-American Occultation Survey (Lehner et al. 2006), and the Multi Mirror Telescope (Bianco 2007).

We study pair annihilations of the neutralino dark matter in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with CP violation. We consider the case that the higgsino mass and the trilinear scalar couplings have CP-violating phases of order unity, taking a scenario that the scalar fermions in the first two generations are much heavier than those in the third generation to avoid a severe constraint from experimental limits on electric dipole moments. It is found that, when the lightest neutralino ($χ$) is bino-like, the cross sections of the $W$-boson pair production $χχ$ $\to$ $W^+W^-$ and the lightest Higgs boson pair production $χχ$ $\to$ $H^0_2 H^0_2$ for nonrelativistic neutralinos can be significantly enhanced by the phase of the higgsino mass. The relic density of the neutralino can be considerably suppressed by this effect. However, even this suppression is not enough to make bino-like dark matter consistent with a cosmological constraint. We also discuss the effect of CP violation on the positron flux from neutralino pair annihilations in the galactic halo.

From the observed EDM values of the atomic Hg system, the neutron EDM can be extracted, which gives a very stringent constraint on the supersymmetry parameters. It is also shown that the measurement of Nitrogen and Thallium atomic systems should provide important information on the flavor dependence of the quark EDM. We perform numerical analyses on the EDM of neutron, proton and electron in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with CP-violating phases. We demonstrate that the new limit on the neutron EDM extracted from atomic systems excludes a wide parameter region of supersymmetry breaking masses above 1 TeV, while the old limit excludes only a small mass region below 1 TeV.

We derive the allowed ranges of the spin--independent interaction cross section $\sigsip$ for the elastic scattering of neutralinos on proton for wide ranges of parameters of the general Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We investigate the effects of the lower limits on Higgs and superpartner masses from colliders, as well as the impact of constraints from $\bsgamma$ and the new measurement of $\gmtwo$ on the upper and lower limits on $\sigsip$. We further explore the impact of the neutralino relic density, including coannihilation, and of theoretical assumptions about the largest allowed values of the supersymmetric parameters. For $μ>0$, requiring the latter to lie below $1\tev$ leads to $\sigsip\gsim 10^{-11}\pb$ at $\mchi\sim100\gev$ and $\sigsip\gsim 10^{-8}\pb$ at $\mchi\sim1\tev$. When the supersymmetric parameters are allowed above $1\tev$, for $440\gev \lsim \mchi\lsim 1020 \gev$ we derive a {\em parameter--independent lower limit} of $\sigsip \gsim 2\times 10^{-12}\pb$. (No similar lower limits can be set for $μ<0$ nor for $1020\gev\lsim\mchi\lsim2.6\tev$.) Requiring $\abundchi<0.3$ implies a {\em parameter--independent upper limit} $\mchi\lsim2.6\tev$. The new $\epem$--based measurement of $(g-2)_μ$ restricts $\mchi\lsim 350\gev$ at $1 σ$ CL and $\mchi\lsim515\gev$ at $2 σ$ CL, and implies $μ>0$. The largest allowed values of $\sigsip$ have already become accessible to recent experimental searches.

We make no simplifying assumptions about the neutralino nor about sfermion masses and mixings other than the absence of explicit CP--violating terms and inter--family mixings. The expressions should be particularly useful in computing the neutralino WIMP relic abundance without the approximation of partial wave expansion. We analyze the implications of several recent cosmological and experimental measurements for the mass spectra of the Constrained MSSM (CMSSM). We compute the relic abundance of the neutralino and compare the new cosmologically expected and excluded mass ranges with those ruled out by the final LEP bounds on the lightest chargino and Higgs masses, with those excluded by current experimental values of $\br(B\to X_s γ)$, and with those favored by the recent measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. We find that for $tanβ\lsim 45$ there remains relatively little room for the mass spectra to be consistent with the interplay of the several constraints. On the other hand, at larger values of $tanβ\$ the decreasing mass of the pseudoscalar Higgs gives rise to a wide resonance in the neutralino WIMP pair-annihilation, whose position depends on the ratio of top and bottom quark masses. As a consequence, the cosmologically expected regions consistent with other constraints often grow significantly and generally shift towards superpartner masses in the $\tev$ range.

We find that several final states may give comparable contributions to the relic density, which illustrates the importance of performing a complete calculation. We compare the exact results with those of the usual expansion method and demonstrate a sizeable discrepancy (of more than 10%) over a significant range of the neutralino mass of up to several tens of GeV which is caused by the presence of resonances and new final-state thresholds. We perform several related checks and comparisons. In particular, we find that the often employed approximate iterative procedure of computing the neutralino freeze-out temperature gives generally very accurate results, except when the expansion method is used near resonances and thresholds.

It is shown that this diagram gives a dominant contribution for $p\to K^+\barν_τ$ over that from $LLLL$ operator, and decay rate of this mode can be comparable with that of $p\to K^+\barν_μ$ which is dominated by the $LLLL$ contribution. It is found that we cannot reduce both the decay rate of $p\to K^+\barν_τ$ and that of $p\to K^+\barν_μ$ simultaneously by adjusting relative phases between Yukawa couplings at colored Higgs interactions. Constraints on the colored Higgs mass $M_C$ and a typical squark and slepton mass $m_{\tilde{f}}$ from Super-Kamiokande limit become considerably stronger due to the Higgsino dressing diagram of the $RRRR$ operator: $M_C > 6.5 \times 10^{16}\gev$ for $m_{\tilde{f}} < 1 \tev$, and $m_{\tilde{f}} > 2.5 \tev$ for $M_C < 2.5 \times 10^{16} \gev$.

Effect of SUSY phases on the $B^0_d - \bar{B}^0_d$ mixing in the minimal supergravity model

Abstract:
We investigate the effect of SUSY phases ($θ_A$ and $θ_μ$) on the $B^0_d - \bar{B}^0_d$ mixing in the minimal supergravity model. It is known that the complex phase $θ_A$ $=$ arg($A$) ($A$ is the universal coefficient of the trilinear scalar couplings) is essentially unconstrained by the electric dipole moment experiment, while the phase $θ_μ$ $=$ arg($μ$) ($μ$ is the supersymmetric Higgsino mas…

We investigate the effect of SUSY phases ($θ_A$ and $θ_μ$) on the $B^0_d - \bar{B}^0_d$ mixing in the minimal supergravity model. It is known that the complex phase $θ_A$ $=$ arg($A$) ($A$ is the universal coefficient of the trilinear scalar couplings) is essentially unconstrained by the electric dipole moment experiment, while the phase $θ_μ$ $=$ arg($μ$) ($μ$ is the supersymmetric Higgsino mass) is strongly constrained to zero. We found that $θ_A$ does not affect the phase of the $B^0_d - \bar{B}^0_d$ mixing matrix element $M_{12}(B)$ by numerical analysis of the renormalization group equations. This means that the measurement of the $B^0_d - \bar{B}^0_d$ mixing at the future B-factory could give the direct information on the parameters of the CKM matrix even in the framework of the minimal supergravity model with the SUSY phase $θ_A$.

\bb mixing and a CP violation parameter in \kk mixing $ε_K$ are studied in the minimal supergravity model. We solve the one-loop renormalization group equations for the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) parameters numerically in order to determine the masses and mixings of the supersymmetric particles, while all off-diagonal (generation mixing) elements and phases of Yukawa coupling matrices and those of squark mass matrices are taken into account. Applying the radiative electroweak symmetry breaking condition and phenomenological constraints including the recent measurement of the \bsg inclusive branching ratio, we obtain the allowed parameter region. We have found that the present constraints still allow a parameter region where both \bb mass splitting $ΔM_B$ and $ε_K$ are $\sim 20$\% larger than the standard model values. By explicit numerical calculations, we have also found that the complex phase of \bb mixing matrix element in this model is almost the same as the standard model value in a good accuracy in the whole allowed parameter region. It is shown that $ΔM_B$ and $ε_K$ can put useful constraints on the supersymmetry's parameter space when the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements are determined through the measurements of CP violations in $B$ decay with future $B$-factories.

Abstract:
We calculate the two loop long range effect on the proton decay effective Lagrangian. Numerical calculation for suppression factor gives $ A_L($2-loop$) = 0.321$ for the value of the strong coupling constant $ α_s(m_Z) = 0.116 $. Two loop effect to more general effective Lagrangian is also given.

Flavor mixing in the quark-squark-gluino coupling is studied for the minimal SU(5) SUGRA-GUT model and applied to evaluation of the nucleon lifetime. All off-diagonal (generation mixing) elements of Yukawa coupling matrices and of squark/slepton mass matrices are included in solving numerically one-loop renormalization group equations for MSSM parameters, and the parameter region consistent with the radiative electroweak symmetry breaking condition is searched. It is shown that the flavor mixing in the gluino coupling for a large $\tanβ$ is of the same order of magnitude as the corresponding Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element in both up-type and down-type sector. There exist parameter regions where the nucleon decay amplitudes for charged lepton modes are dominated by the gluino dressing process, while for all the examined regions the neutrino mode amplitudes are dominated by the wino dressing over the gluino dressing.
