We investigate the $Λ_c \to Λ\ell^{+} ν_\ell$ decay with a focus on potential new physics (NP) effects in the $\ell = μ$ channel. We employ an effective Hamiltonian within the framework of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) to consider generalized dimension-6 semileptonic $c\to s$ operators of scalar, pseudoscalar, vector, axial-vector and tensor types. We rely on Lattice QCD (LQCD) for the hadronic transition form factors, using heavy quark spin symmetry (HQSS) to determine those that have not yet been obtained on the lattice. Uncertainties due to the truncation of the NP Hamiltonian and different implementations of HQSS are taken into account. As a result, we unravel the NP discovery potential of the $Λ_c\to Λ$ semileptonic decay in different observables. Our findings indicate high sensitivity to NP in lepton flavour universality ratios, probing multi-TeV scales in some cases. On the theoretical side, we identify LQCD uncertainties in axial and vector form factors as critical for improving NP sensitivity, alongside better SMEFT uncertainty estimations.

We find that the system is bound with respect to the corresponding $Λ_c^* D$ threshold with a binding of about $60$ MeV and a width of about $90$ MeV. Alternatively we assume a cluster of $ND$ and a $D^*$ meson interacting with the cluster and we find similar results. The observation of these states of $J^P = 1/2^+,\, 3/2^+$ would provide new and valuable information concerning the $DN$ and $D^* N$ interaction, an issue of current debate.

We analyze the modifications that a dense nuclear medium induces in the $D_{s0}^\ast(2317)^\pm$ and $D_{s1}(2460)^\pm$. In the vacuum, we consider them as isoscalar $D^{(*)}K$ and $\overline{D}{}^{(*)}\overline{K}$ $S$-wave bound states, which are dynamically generated from effective interactions that lead to different Weinberg compositeness scenarios. Matter effects are incorporated through the two-meson loop functions, taking into account the self energies that the $D^{(*)}$, $\overline{D}{}^{(*)}$, $K$, and $\overline{K}$ develop when embedded in a nuclear medium. Although particle-antiparticle [$D^{(\ast)}_{s0,s1}(2317,2460)^+$ versus $D^{(\ast)}_{s0,s1}(2317,2460)^-$] lineshapes are the same in vacuum, we find extremely different density patterns in matter. This charge-conjugation asymmetry mainly stems from the very different kaon and antikaon interaction with the nucleons of the dense medium. We show that the in-medium lineshapes found for these resonances strongly depend on their $D^{(*)}K$/$\overline{D}{}^{(*)}\overline{K}$ molecular content, and discuss how this novel feature can be used to better determine/constrain the inner structure of these exotic states.

We present a detailed study of the lowest-lying ${\frac{1}{2}}^-$ and ${\frac{3}{2}}^-$ $Λ_{Q}$ resonances both in the heavy quark (bottom and charm) and the strange sectors. We have paid special attention to the interplay between the constituent quark-model and chiral baryon-meson degrees of freedom, which are coupled using a unitarized scheme consistent with leading-order heavy quark symmetries. We show that the $Λ_b(5912)$ [$J^P=1/2^-$], $Λ_b(5920)$ [$J^P=3/2^-$] and the $Λ_c(2625)$ [$J^P=3/2^-$], and the $Λ(1520)$ [$J^P=3/2^-$] admitting larger breaking corrections, are heavy-quark spin-flavor siblings. They can be seen as dressed quark-model states with $Σ_{Q}^{(*)}π$ molecular components of the order of 30\%. The ${J^P=\frac{1}{2}}^-$ $Λ_c(2595)$ has, however, a higher molecular probability of at least $50$\%, and even values greater than 70\% can be easily accommodated. This is because it is located almost on top of the threshold of the $Σ_cπ$ pair, which largely influences its properties. Although the light degrees of freedom in this resonance would be coupled to spin-parity $1^-$ as in the $Λ_b(5912)$, $Λ_b(5920)$ and $Λ_c(2625)$, the $Λ_c(2595)$ should not be considered as a heavy-quark spin-flavor partner of the former ones. We also show that the $Λ(1405)$ chiral two-pole pattern does not have analogs in the $\frac{1}{2}^-$ charmed and bottomed sectors, because the $ND^{(*)}$ and $N\overline{B}{}^{(*)} $ channels do not play for heavy quarks the decisive role that the $N \overline{K}$ does in the strange sector, and the notable influence of the bare quark-model states for the charm and bottom resonances. Finally, we predict the existence of two $Λ_b(6070)$ and two $Λ_c(2765)$ heavy-quark spin and flavor sibling odd parity states.

We consider the propagation of photons in the background of a Bose-Einstein (BE) condensate of a charged scalar field, by extending a method recently proposed to treat the propagation of fermions in a BE condensate. We determine the dispersion relations of the collective modes of the system, as well as the photon polarization tensor and the dielectric constant that result after the symmetry breaking associated with the BE condensation in the model. Two modes correspond to the transverse photon polarizations, and their dispersion relations have the usual form of the transverse photons in a plasma. The other two modes, which we denote as the $(\pm)$ modes, are combinations of the longitudinal photon and the massive scalar field. The dispersion relation of the $(-)$ mode decreases as a function of the momentum in a given range, and the corresponding group velocity is negative in that range. We also determine the wavefunctions of the $(\pm)$ modes, which can be used to obtain the corrections to the dispersion relations (e.g., imaginary parts due the dam** effects) and/or the effects of scattering, due to the interactions with the excitations of the system. The results can be useful in various physical contexts that have been considered in the literature involving the electrodynamics of a charged scalar BE condensate.

In an optically active medium, such as a plasma that contains a neutrino background, the left-handed and right-handed polarization photon modes acquire different dispersion relations. We study the propagation of photons in such a medium, which is otherwise isotropic, within the framework of the covariant collissionless Boltzmann equation incorporating a term that parametrizes the optical activity. Using the linear response approximation, we obtain the formulas for the components of the photon polarization tensor, expressed in terms of integrals over the momentum distribution function of the background particles. The main result here is the formula for the P- and CP-breaking component of the photon polarization tensor in terms of the parameter involved in the new term we consider in the Boltzmann equation to describe the effects of optical activity. We discuss the results for some particular cases, such as long-wavelength and non-relativistic limits, for illustrate purposes. We also discuss the generalizations of the P- and CP-breaking term we included in the Boltzmann equation. In particular we consider the application to a plasma with a neutrino background and establish contact with calculations of the photon self-energy in those systems in the framework of Thermal Field Theory.

We consider the scattering of in-plane waves that interact with an edge of a structured {penetrable (inertial)} line defect contained in a triangular lattice, composed of periodically placed masses interconnected by massless elastic rods. The steady state problem for time-harmonic excitation is converted into a vector Wiener-Hopf equation using Fourier transform. The matrix Wiener-Hopf kernel of this equation describes all dynamic phenomena engaged in the scattering process, which includes instances where localised interfacial waves can emerge along structured defect. This information is exploited to identify the dependency of the existence of these waves on the incident wave parameters and properties of the inertial defect. The symmetry in the structure of scattering medium allows us to convert the vectorial problem into a pair of scalar Wiener-Hopf equations posed along the lattice row containing the defect. The solution embodies the exact representation of scattered field, in terms of a contour integral in the complex plane, that includes the contributions of evanescent and propagating waves. The solution reveals that in the remote lattice, the reflected and transmitted components of incident field are {accompanied by dynamic modes from three distinct symmetry classes in addition to localised interfacial waves}. These classes correspond to tensile modes acting transverse to the defected lattice row, shear modes that act parallel to this row, and wave modes represented as a mixture of these two responses. Benchmark finite element calculations are provided to validate results against the obtained semi-analytical solution, which involve numerical computations of the contour integrals. Graphical illustrations demonstrate special dynamic responses encountered during the wave scattering process, including dynamic anisotropy, negative reflection and negative refraction.

We study here the inverse problem of starting from the femtoscopic correlation functions of related channels and analyze them with an efficient tool to extract the maximum information possible on the interaction of the components of these channels, and the existence of possible bound states tied to this interaction. The method is flexible enough to accommodate non-molecular components and the effect of missing channels relevant for the interaction. We apply the method to realistic correlation functions for the $D^{*+}D^0$ and $D^{*0}D^+$ channels derived consistently from the properties of the $T_{cc}(3875)^+$ and find that we can extract the existence of a bound state, its nature as a molecular state of the $D^{*+}D^0$ and $D^{*0}D^+$ channels, the probabilities of each channel, as well as scattering lengths and effective ranges for the channels, together with the size of the source function, all of them with a relatively good precision.

We discuss the modification of the properties of the tetraquark-like $T_{cc}(3875)^+$ and $T_{\bar c\bar c}(3875)^-$ states in dense nuclear matter. We consider the $T_{cc}^+$ and $T_{\bar c\bar c}^-$ in vacuum as purely isoscalar $D^{\ast} D$ and $\overline{D}{}^{\ast} \overline{D}$ $S$-wave bound states, respectively, dynamically generated from a heavy-quark effective interaction between the charmed mesons. We compute the $D$, $\overline{D}$, $D^*$, and $\overline{D}{}^{*}$ spectral functions embedded in a nuclear medium and use them to determine the corresponding $T_{cc}^+$ and $T_{\bar c\bar c}^-$ self energies and spectral functions. We find important modifications of the $D^{\ast} D$ and $\overline{D}{}^{\ast} \overline{D}$ scattering amplitudes and of the pole position of these exotic states already for $ρ_0/2$, with $ρ_0$ the normal nuclear density. We also discuss the dependence of these results on the $D^{\ast} D$ ($\overline{D}{}^{\ast} \overline{D}$) molecular component in the $T_{cc}^+$ ($T_{\bar c\bar c}^-$ ) wave-function. Owing to the different nature of the $D^{(*)}N$ and $\overline{D}{}^{(*)}N$ interactions, we find characteristic changes of the in-medium properties of the $T_{cc}(3875)^+$ and $T_{\bar c\bar c}(3875)^-$, which become increasingly visible as the density increases. The experimental confirmation of the found distinctive density-pattern will give support to the molecular picture of these tetraquark-like states, since in the case they were colourless compact quark structures the density behaviour of their respective nuclear medium spectral functions would likely be similar. Finally, we perform similar analyses for the isoscalar $J^P=1^+$ heavy-quark spin symmetry partners of the $T_{cc}^+$ ($T_{cc}^{*+}$) and the $T_{\bar c\bar c}^-$ ($T_{\bar c\bar c}^{*-}$) by considering the $D^{*0}D^{*+}$ and $\overline{D}{}^{*0} D^{*-}$ scattering $T-$matrices.

In contrast, changes in genetic pathways are usually evaluated by means of hypothesis testing schemes. We introduce a quantitative measure in order to evaluate the average fold-change of genetic pathways in biological transitions and applied it to characterize in general grounds the transition from a normal tissue to a tumor. Additionally, we study the transformation from primary to metastatic melanoma. Gene expression data from the TCGA portal for 16 tumors and the Reactome compilation of pathways are used for this purpose.

Fairness is central to the ethical and responsible development and use of AI systems, with a large number of frameworks and formal notions of algorithmic fairness being available. However, many of the fairness solutions proposed revolve around technical considerations and not the needs of and consequences for the most impacted communities. We therefore want to take the focus away from definitions and allow for the inclusion of societal and relational aspects to represent how the effects of AI systems impact and are experienced by individuals and social groups. In this paper, we do this by means of proposing the ACROCPoLis framework to represent allocation processes with a modeling emphasis on fairness aspects. The framework provides a shared vocabulary in which the factors relevant to fairness assessments for different situations and procedures are made explicit, as well as their interrelationships. This enables us to compare analogous situations, to highlight the differences in dissimilar situations, and to capture differing interpretations of the same situation by different stakeholders.

These exotic states owe their existence to the nonperturbative dynamics of Goldstone-boson scattering off $D_{(s)}$. We discuss recent lattice data for the $T_{cc}(3875)^+$ state to stress, for the first time, a potentially strong impact of left-hand cuts from the one-pion exchange on the pole extraction for near-threshold exotic states. In particular, if the left-hand cut is located close to the two-particle threshold, which happens naturally in the $DD^*$ system for the pion mass exceeding its physical value, the effective-range expansion is valid only in a very limited energy range up to the cut and as such is of little use to reliably extract the poles. Then, an accurate extraction of the pole locations requires the one-pion exchange to be implemented explicitly into the scattering amplitudes. Our findings are general and potentially relevant for a wide class of hadronic near-threshold states.

For a source of size of 1 fm, we find values for the correlation functions of the $D^0 D^{*+}$ and $D^+D^{*0}$ channels at the origin around 30 and 2.5, respectively, and we see these observables converging to unity already for relative momenta of the order of 200 MeV. We conduct tests to see the relevance of the different contributions to the correlation function and find that it mostly provides information on the scattering length, since the presence of the source function in the correlation function introduces an effective cut in the loop integrals that makes them quite insensitive to the range of the interaction.

We have studied the contribution of the state $X(3930)$, coming from the interaction of the $D \overline{D}$ and $D^{+}_s D^{-}_s$ channels, to the $B^- \to K^- J/ψω$ decay. The purpose of this work is to offer a complementary tool to see if the $X(3930)$ state observed in the $D^+ D^-$ channel is the same or not as the $X(3960)$ resonance claimed by the LHCb collaboration from a peak in the $D^{+}_s D^{-}_s$ mass distribution around threshold. We present results for what we expect in the $J/ψω$ mass distribution in the $B^- \to K^- J/ψω$ decay and conclude that a clear signal should be seen around $3930\,\rm MeV$. At the same time, finding no extra resonance signal at $3960\,\rm MeV$ would be a clear indication that there is not a new state at $3960\,\rm MeV$, supporting the hypothesis that the near-threshold peaking structure peak in the $D^{+}_s D^{-}_s$ mass distribution is only a manifestation of a resonance below threshold.

We have a look at the $P_{cs}$ states generated from the interaction of $\bar D^{(*)} Ξ^{(\prime*)}_c$ coupled channels. We consider the blocks of pseudoscalar-baryon $({\frac12}^+, {\frac32}^+)$ and vector-baryon $({\frac12}^+, {\frac32}^+)$, and find $10$ resonant states coupling mostly to $\bar D Ξ_c, \bar D^* Ξ_c,\bar D Ξ'_c, \bar D^* Ξ'_c,\bar D Ξ^*_c$ and $\bar D^* Ξ^*_c$. A novel aspect of the work is the realization that the $\bar D Ξ_c,\bar D_sΛ_c$ or $\bar D^* Ξ_c,\bar D^*_sΛ_c$ channels, with a strong transition potential, collaborate to produce a larger attraction than the corresponding states $\bar D Σ_c,\bar DΛ_c$ or $\bar D^* Σ_c,\bar D^*Λ_c$ appearing in the generation of the strangenessless $P_{c}$ states, since in the latter case the transition potential between those channels is zero. The extra attraction obtained in the $\bar D Ξ_c,\bar D^* Ξ_c$ pairs preclude the association of these channels to the $P_{cs}(4338)$ and $P_{cs}(4459)$ states respectively. Then we find a natural association of the $P_{cs}(4338)$ state coupling mostly to $\bar D^* Ξ_c$ while the $P_{cs}(4459)$ is associated to the state found that couples mostly to $\bar D Ξ'_c$. Four more states appear, like in other molecular pictures, and some of the states are degenerate in spin. Counting different spin states we find $10$ states, which we hope can be observed in the near future.

To check the proposal, the available data in the $D\bar D$ and $D_s^+ D_s^-$ channels from both $ B$ decays and $γγ$ fusion reaction are analyzed considering both the $D\bar D$-$D_s\bar D_s$-$D^*\bar D^*$-$D_s^*\bar D_s^*$ coupled channels with $0^{++}$ and a $2^{++}$ state introduced additionally. It is found that all the data in different processes can be simultaneously well reproduced, and the coupled-channel dynamics produce four hidden-charm scalar molecular states with masses around 3.73, 3.94, 3.99 and 4.23~GeV, respectively. The results may deepen our understanding of the spectrum of charmonia as well as of the interactions between charmed hadrons.

Developed and used responsibly Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a force for global sustainable development. Given this opportunity, we expect that the many of the existing guidelines and recommendations for trustworthy or responsible AI will provide explicit guidance on how AI can contribute to the achievement of United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This would in particular be the case for the AI strategies of the Nordic countries, at least given their high ranking and overall political focus when it comes to the achievement of the SDGs. In this paper, we present an analysis of existing AI recommendations from 10 different countries or organisations based on topic modelling techniques to identify how much these strategy documents refer to the SDGs. The analysis shows no significant difference on how much these documents refer to SDGs. Moreover, the Nordic countries are not different from the others albeit their long-term commitment to SDGs. More importantly, references to \textit{gender equality} (SDG 5) and \textit{inequality} (SDG 10), as well as references to environmental impact of AI development and use, and in particular the consequences for life on earth, are notably missing from the guidelines.

Using an effective theory approach, we analyze different observables that can be accessed through the visible kinematics of the charged particles produced in the tau decay, for which we consider the $π^-ν_τ,ρ^-ν_τ$ and $μ^-\barν_μν_τ$ channels. We compare the results obtained in the Standard Model and other schemes containing new physics (NP) interactions, with either left-handed or right-handed neutrino operators. We find a discriminating power between models similar to the one of the $Λ_b\to Λ_c$ decay, although somewhat hindered in this case by the larger errors of the $Λ_b\toΛ^*_c$ lattice form factors. Notwithstanding this, the analysis of these reactions is already able to discriminate between some of the NP scenarios and its potentiality will certainly improve when more precise form factors are available.

We show that the data can be well described by either a bound or a virtual state below the $D_s^+D_s^-$ threshold. The mass given by the pole position is $(3928\pm3)$ MeV. Using this mass and the existing information on the $X(3872)$ and $Z_c(3900)$ resonances, a complete spectrum of the $S$-wave hadronic molecules formed by a pair of ground state charmed and anticharmed mesons is established. Thus, pole positions of the partners of the $X(3872)$, $Z_c(3900)$ and the newly observed $D_s^+D_s^-$ state are predicted. Calculations have been carried out at the leading order of nonrelativistic effective field theory and considering both heavy quark spin and light flavor SU(3) symmetries, though conservative errors from the breaking of these symmetries are provided.

Scatterplots are among the most widely used visualization techniques. Compelling scatterplot visualizations improve understanding of data by leveraging visual perception to boost awareness when performing specific visual analytic tasks. Design choices in scatterplots, such as graphical encodings or data aspects, can directly impact decision-making quality for low-level tasks like clustering. Hence, constructing frameworks that consider both the perceptions of the visual encodings and the task being performed enables optimizing visualizations to maximize efficacy. In this paper, we propose an automatic tool to optimize the design factors of scatterplots to reveal the most salient cluster structure. Our approach leverages the merge tree data structure to identify the clusters and optimize the choice of subsampling algorithm, sampling rate, marker size, and marker opacity used to generate a scatterplot image. We validate our approach with user and case studies that show it efficiently provides high-quality scatterplot designs from a large parameter space.

Although these sensors should behave similarly in different devices, that is not always the case. In this case study, we analyze accelerometers from three different devices recording the same actions with an aim to determine whether the discrepancies are due to variability within or between devices. We found the most significant variation between devices with different specifications, such as sensitivity and sampling frequency. Nevertheless, variance in the data should be assumed, even if data is gathered from the same person, activity, and type of sensor.

We use a $\mathcal{O}(Λ_\text{QCD}/m_c)$ heavy quark effective theory scheme, where only $\mathcal{O}(Λ_\text{QCD}/m_b)$ and perturbative QCD short distance corrections are neglected, to study the matrix elements of the scalar, pseudoscalar, vector, axial-vector and tensor currents between the $Λ_b$ ground state and the odd parity charm $Λ_c(2595)^+$ and $Λ_c(2625)^+$ resonances. We show that in the near-zero recoil regime, the scheme describes reasonably well, taking into account uncertainties, the results for the 24 form-factors obtained in lattice QCD (LQCD) just in terms of only 4 Isgur-Wise (IW) functions. We also find some support for the possibility that the $Λ_c(2595)^+$ and $Λ_c(2625)^+$ resonances might form a heavy-quark spin symmetry (HQSS) doublet. However, we argue that the available LQCD description of these two resonances is not accurate enough to disentangle the possible effects of the $Σ_c π$ and $Σ_c^*π$ thresholds, located only a few MeV above their position, and that it cannot be ruled out that these states are not HQSS partners. Finally, we study the ratio $\frac{dΓ[Λ_b\to Λ_{c,1/2^-}^* \ell \barν_\ell]/dq^2}{dΓ[Λ_b\to Λ_{c,3/2^-}^*\ell \barν_\ell]/dq^2}$ of the Standard Model differential semileptonic decay widths, with $q^μ$ the momentum transferred between the initial and final hadrons. We provide a natural explanation for the existence of large deviations, near the zero recoil, of this ratio from 1/2 (value predicted in the infinite heavy quark mass limit, assuming that the $Λ_{c,1/2^-}^*$ and $Λ_{c,3/2^-}^*$ are the two members of a HQSS doublet) based on S-wave contributions to the $Λ_b\to Λ_{c,1/2^-}^*$ decay amplitude driven by a sub-leading IW function.

This white paper provides a comprehensive review of our present understanding of experimental neutrino anomalies that remain unresolved, charting the progress achieved over the last decade at the experimental and phenomenological level, and sets the stage for future programmatic prospects in addressing those anomalies. It is purposed to serve as a guiding and motivational "encyclopedic" reference, with emphasis on needs and options for future exploration that may lead to the ultimate resolution of the anomalies. We see the main experimental, analysis, and theory-driven thrusts that will be essential to achieving this goal being: 1) Cover all anomaly sectors -- given the unresolved nature of all four canonical anomalies, it is imperative to support all pillars of a diverse experimental portfolio, source, reactor, decay-at-rest, decay-in-flight, and other methods/sources, to provide complementary probes of and increased precision for new physics explanations; 2) Pursue diverse signatures -- it is imperative that experiments make design and analysis choices that maximize sensitivity to as broad an array of these potential new physics signatures as possible; 3) Deepen theoretical engagement -- priority in the theory community should be placed on development of standard and beyond standard models relevant to all four short-baseline anomalies and the development of tools for efficient tests of these models with existing and future experimental datasets; 4) Openly share data -- Fluid communication between the experimental and theory communities will be required, which implies that both experimental data releases and theoretical calculations should be publicly available; and 5) Apply robust analysis techniques -- Appropriate statistical treatment is crucial to assess the compatibility of data sets within the context of any given model.

We discuss a model-independent estimator of the likelihood of the compositeness of a shallow S-wave bound or virtual state. The approach is based on an extension of Weinberg's relations in Phys. Rev. 137, B672 (1965) and it relies only on the proximity of the energy of the state to the two-hadron threshold to which it significantly couples. The scheme only makes use of the experimental scattering length and the effective range low energy parameters, and it is shown to be fully consistent for predominantly molecular hadrons. As explicit applications, we analyse the case of the deuteron, the $^1{\rm S}_0$ nucleon-nucleon virtual state and the exotic $D^{\ast}_{s0}(2317)^\pm$, and find strong support to the molecular interpretation in all cases. Results are less conclusive for the $D^{\ast}_{s0}(2317)^\pm$, since the binding energy of this state is significantly higher than that of the deuteron, and the approach employed here is at the limit of its applicability. We also qualitatively address the case of the recently discovered $T_{cc}^+$ state, within the isospin limit to avoid the complexity of the very close thresholds $D^0D^{\ast +}$ and $D^+D^{\ast 0}$, which could mask the ingredients of the approach proposed in this work.

Rural-urban classifications are essential for analyzing geographic, demographic, environmental, and social processes across the rural-urban continuum. Most existing classifications are, however, only available at relatively aggregated spatial scales, such as at the county scale in the United States. The absence of rurality or urbanness measures at high spatial resolution poses significant problems when the process of interest is highly localized, as with the incorporation of rural towns and villages into encroaching metropolitan areas. Moreover, existing rural-urban classifications are often inconsistent over time, or require complex, multi-source input data (e.g., remote sensing observations or road network data), thus, prohibiting the longitudinal analysis of rural-urban dynamics. Here, we develop a set of distance- and spatial-network-based methods for consistently estimating the remoteness and rurality of places at fine spatial resolution, over long periods of time. We demonstrate the utility of our approach by constructing indices of urbanness for 30,000 places in the United States from 1930 to 2018 and further test the plausibility of our results against a variety of evaluation datasets. We call these indices the place-level urban-rural index (PLURAL) and make the resulting datasets publicly available (https://doi.org/10.3886/E162941) so that other researchers can conduct long-term, fine-grained analyses of urban and rural change. In addition, due to the simplistic nature of the input data, these methods can be generalized to other time periods or regions of the world, particularly to data-scarce environments.

We developed a distance-based method to generate place-level remoteness estimates based on simple input data. We create our remoteness index based on place-level population data for the U.S. from 1980 to 2010. The proposed index is generalizable to data-scarce environments and earlier time periods and is based on the distances of a given place to the nearest places of different population sizes, and allows for fine-grained, temporally consistent analyses of rural-urban processes.

Since the $ν_τ(\barν_τ) A_Z \to τ^\mp X$ reaction is notoriously difficult to be directly measured, the information on the dynamics of this nuclear process should be extracted from the analysis of the energy and angular distributions of the tau decay visible products. These distributions depend on the components of the tau-polarization vector. We give, for the first time, the general expression for the outgoing hadron (pion or rho meson) energy and angular differential cross section for the sequential $ν_τA_Z \to τ^-(π^- ν_τ, ρ^-ν_τ) X$ and $\barν_τA_Z \to τ^+(π^+ \barν_τ, ρ^+ \barν_τ) X$ reactions. Though all possible nuclear reaction mechanisms contribute to the distribution, it may be possible to isolate/enhance one of them by implementing appropriate selection criteria. For the case of the quasi-elastic reaction off oxygen and neutrino energies below 6 GeV, we show that the pion distributions are sensitive to the details of the tau-polarization components. We find significant differences between the full calculation, where the longitudinal and transverse components of the tau polarization vector vary with the energy and the scattering angle of the produced tau, and the simplified scheme in which the polarizations are set to one and zero (respective asymptotic values in the high energy regime). In addition to its potential impact on neutrino oscillation analyses, this result can be used to further test different nuclear models, since these observables provide complementary information to that obtained by means of the inclusive nuclear weak charged-current differential cross section. We also study the effects on the cross section of the $W_4$, $W_5$ nuclear structure functions, which contributions are proportional to the charged lepton mass, and therefore difficult to constrain in muon and electron neutrino experiments.

To measure node importance, network scientists employ centrality scores that typically take a microscopic or macroscopic perspective, relying on node features or global network structure. However, traditional centrality measures such as degree centrality, betweenness centrality, or PageRank neglect the community structure found in real-world networks. To study node importance based on network flows from a mesoscopic perspective, we analytically derive a community-aware information-theoretic centrality score based on network flow and the coding principles behind the map equation: map equation centrality. Map equation centrality measures how much further we can compress the network's modular description by not coding for random walker transitions to the respective node, using an adapted coding scheme and determining node importance from a network flow-based point of view. The information-theoretic centrality measure can be determined from a node's local network context alone because changes to the coding scheme only affect other nodes in the same module. Map equation centrality is agnostic to the chosen network flow model and allows researchers to select the model that best reflects the dynamics of the process under study. Applied to synthetic networks, we highlight how our approach enables a more fine-grained differentiation between nodes than node-local or network-global measures. Predicting influential nodes for two different dynamical processes on real-world networks with traditional and other community-aware centrality measures, we find that activating nodes based on map equation centrality scores tends to create the largest cascades in a linear threshold model.

We have improved on the previous analysis of Albaladejo $et$ $al.$ [Phys. Lett. B 755, 337 (2016)] by computing the amplitude for the $D_1\bar{D}D^*$ triangle diagram considering both $D$ and $S$-wave $D_1D^*π$ couplings. We have also investigated effects from SU(3) light-flavor violations, which are found to be moderate and of the order of 20%. The successful reproduction of the BESIII spectra, in both the hidden-charm and hidden-charm strange sectors, strongly supports that the $Z_{cs}(3985)$ and $Z_c(3900)$ are SU(3) flavor partners placed in the same octet multiplet. The best results are obtained when an energy-dependent term in the diagonal $D^{(*)}\bar D_{(s)}^{(*)}$ interaction is included, leading to resonances (poles above the thresholds) to describe these exotic states. We have also made predictions for the isovector $Z_{c}^*$ and isodoublet $Z_{cs}^*$, $D^*\bar{D}^*$ and $D^*\bar{D}_{s}^*$ molecules, with $J^{PC}=1^{+-}$ and $J^{P}=1^{+}$, respectively. These states would be heavy-quark spin symmetry partners of the $Z_{c}$ and $Z_{cs}$. Besides the determination of the masses and widths of the $Z_c(3900)$ and $Z_{cs}(3985)$, we also predict those of the $Z_c^*$ and $Z_{cs}^*$ resonances.

Abstract:
We study the $d^2 Γ_d /(dωd\cosθ_d) $, $dΓ_d /d\cosθ_d$ and $ dΓ_d /dE_d $ distributions, which are defined in terms of the visible energy and polar angle of the charged particle from the $τ-$decay in $b\to c τ\, (μ\bar ν_μν_τ,πν_τ,ρν_τ) \barν_τ$ reactions. The first two contain information on the transverse tau-spin, tau-angular and tau-angular-spin asymmetries of the $H_b\to H_cτ\barν_τ$ parent decay and, from a dynamical point of view, they are richer than the commonly used one, $d^2 Γ_d /(dωdE_d) $, since the latter only depends on the tau longitudinal polarization. We pay attention to the deviations with respect to the predictions of the standard model (SM) for these new observables, considering new physics (NP) operators constructed using both right- and left-handed neutrino fields, within an effective field-theory approach. We present results for $Λ_b\toΛ_cτ\, (μ\bar ν_μν_τ,πν_τ,ρν_τ)\barν_τ$ and $\bar B \to D^{(*)}τ\, (μ\bar ν_μν_τ,πν_τ,ρν_τ) \barν_τ$ sequential decays and discuss their use to disentangle between different NP models. In this respect, we show that $dΓ_d /d\cosθ_d$, which should be measured with sufficiently good statistics, becomes quite useful, especially in the $τ\to πν_τ$ mode. The study carried out in this work could be of special relevance due to the recent LHCb measurement of the lepton flavor universality ratio ${\cal R}_{Λ_c}$ in agreement with the SM. The experiment identified the $τ$ using its hadron decay into $π^-π^+π^-ν_τ$, and this result for ${\cal R}_{Λ_c}$, which is in conflict with the phenomenology from the $b$-meson sector, needs confirmation from other tau reconstruction channels.

We consider the propagation of a neutrino or an antineutrino in a medium composed of fermions $f$ and scalars $φ$ interacting via a Yukawa-type coupling of the form $\bar fνφ$, for neutrino energies at which the processes like $ν+ φ\leftrightarrow f$ or $ν+ \bar f \leftrightarrow \barφ$, and the corresponding ones for the antineutrino, are kinematically accessible. The relevant energy values are around $|m^2_φ- m^2_f|/2m_φ$ or $|m^2_φ- m^2_f|/2m_f$, where $m_φ$ and $m_f$ are the masses of $φ$ and $f$, respectively. We refer to either one of these regions as a resonance energy range. Near these points, the one-loop formula for the neutrino self-energy has a singularity. From a technical point of view, that feature is indicative that the self-energy acquires an imaginary part, which is associated with dam** effects and cannot be neglected, while the integral formula for the real part must be evaluated using the principal value of the integral. We carry out the calculations explicitly for some cases that allow us to give analytic results. Writing the dispersion relation in the form $ω= κ+ V_{\text{eff}} - iγ/2$, we give the explicit formula for $V_{\text{eff}}$ and $γ$ for the cases considered. When the neutrino energy is either much larger or much smaller than the resonance energy, $V_{\text{eff}}$ reduces to the effective potential that has been already determined in the literature in the high or low momentum regime, respectively. The virtue of the formula we give for $V_{\text{eff}}$ is that it is valid also in the \emph{resonance energy range}, which is outside the two limits mentioned. As a guide to possible applications we give the relevant formulas for $V_{\text{eff}}$ and $γ$, and consider the solution to the oscillation equations including the dam** term, in a simple two-generation case.

In this paper, we develop a recommender system for a game that suggests potential items to players based on their interactive behaviors to maximize revenue for the game provider. Our approach is built on a reinforcement learning-based technique and is trained on an offline data set that is publicly available on an IEEE Big Data Cup challenge. The limitation of the offline data set and the curse of high dimensionality pose significant obstacles to solving this problem. Our proposed method focuses on improving the total rewards and performance by tackling these main difficulties. More specifically, we utilized sparse PCA to extract important features of user behaviors. Our Q-learning-based system is then trained from the processed offline data set. To exploit all possible information from the provided data set, we cluster user features to different groups and build an independent Q-table for each group. Furthermore, to tackle the challenge of unknown formula for evaluation metrics, we design a metric to self-evaluate our system's performance based on the potential value the game provider might achieve and a small collection of actual evaluation metrics that we obtain from the live scoring environment. Our experiments show that our proposed metric is consistent with the results published by the challenge organizers. We have implemented the proposed training pipeline, and the results show that our method outperforms current state-of-the-art methods in terms of both total rewards and training speed. By addressing the main challenges and leveraging the state-of-the-art techniques, we have achieved the best public leaderboard result in the challenge. Furthermore, our proposed method achieved an estimated score of approximately 20% better and can be trained faster by 30 times than the best of the current state-of-the-art methods.

A coupled-channel approach is applied to the charged tetraquark state $T_{cc}^+$ recently discovered by the LHCb Collaboration. The parameters of the interaction are fixed by a fit to the observed line shape in the three-body $D^0D^0π^+$ channel. Special attention is paid to the three-body dynamics in the $T_{cc}^+$ due to the finite life time of the $D^*$. An approach to the $T_{cc}^+$ is argued to be self-consistent only if both manifestations of the three-body dynamics, the pion exchange between the $D$ and $D^*$ mesons and the finite $D^*$ width, are taken into account simultaneously to ensure that three-body unitarity is preserved. This is especially important to precisely extract the pole position in the complex energy plane whose imaginary part is very sensitive to the details of the coupled-channel scheme employed. The $D^0D^0$ and $D^0D^+$ invariant mass distributions, predicted based on this analysis, are in good agreement with the LHCb data. The low-energy expansion of the $D^*D$ scattering amplitude is performed and the low-energy constants (the scattering length and effective range) are extracted. The compositeness parameter of the $T_{cc}^+$ is found to be close to unity, which implies that the $T_{cc}^+$ is a hadronic molecule generated by the interactions in the $D^{*+}D^0$ and $D^{*0}D^+$ channels. Employing heavy-quark spin symmetry, an isoscalar $D^*D^*$ molecular partner of the $T_{cc}^+$ with $J^P=1^+$ is predicted under the assumption that the $ DD^*$-$D^*D^*$ coupled-channel effects can be neglected.

In the context of lepton flavor universality violation (LFUV) studies, we fully derive a general tensor formalism to investigate the role that left- and right-handed neutrino new-physics (NP) terms may have in $b\to c τ\barν_τ$ transitions. We present, for several extensions of the Standard Model (SM), numerical results for the $Λ_b\toΛ_cτ\barν_τ$ semileptonic decay, which is expected to be measured with precision at the LHCb. This reaction can be a new source of experimental information that can help to confirm, or maybe rule out, LFUV presently seen in $\bar B$ meson decays. The present study analyzes observables that can help in distinguishing between different NP scenarios that otherwise provide very similar results for the branching ratios, which are our currently best hints for LFUV. Since the $τ$ lepton is very short-lived, we consider three subsequent $τ$-decay modes, two hadronic $πν_τ$ and $ρν_τ$ and one leptonic $μ\barν_μν_τ$, which have been previously studied for $\bar B\to D^{(*)}$ decays. Within the tensor formalism that we have developed in previous works, we re-obtain the expressions for the differential decay width written in terms of visible (experimentally accessible) variables of the massive particle created in the $τ$ decay. There are seven different $τ$ angular and spin asymmetries that are defined in this way and that can be extracted from experiment. Those asymmetries provide observables that can help in constraining possible SM extensions.

We consider the calculation of the thermal self-energy of a neutrino that propagates in a medium composed of fermions and scalars interacting via a Yukawa-type coupling, in the case that the neutri no energy is much larger than the fermion and scalar masses, as well as the temperature and chemical potentials of the background. In this kinematic regime the one-loop contribution to the imaginary part of the self-energy is negligible. We consider the two-loop contribution and we encounter the so-called pinch singularities which are known to arise in higher loop self-energy calculations in Thermal Field Theory. With a judicious use of the properties and parametrizations of the thermal propagators the singularities are treated effectively and actually disappear. From the imaginary part of the self-energy, we obtain a precise formula for the dam** matrix expressed in terms of integrals over the background particle distributions. The formulas predict a specific dependence of the dam** terms on the neutrino energy, depending on the background conditions. For guidance to estimating the effects in specific contexts, we compute the dam** terms for several limiting cases of the momentum distribution functions of the background particles. We discuss briefly the connection between the results of our calculations for the dam** matrix and the decoherence effects described in terms of the Lindblad equation.

For a general $H_b\to H_cτ\barν_τ$ decay we analyze the role of the $τ$ polarization vector ${\cal P}^μ$ in the context of lepton flavor universality violation studies. We use a general phenomenological approach that includes, in addition to the Standard Model (SM) contribution, vector, axial, scalar, pseudoscalar and tensor new physics (NP) terms which strength is governed by, complex in general, Wilson coefficients. We show that both in the laboratory frame, where the initial hadron is at rest, and in the center of mass of the two final leptons, a $\vec {\cal P}$ component perpendicular to the plane defined by the three-momenta of the final hadron and the $τ$ lepton is only possible for complex Wilson coefficients, being a clear signal for physics beyond the SM as well as time reversal (or CP-symmetry) violation. We make specific evaluations of the different polarization vector components for the $Λ_b\toΛ_c$, $\bar B_c\toη_c,J/ψ$ and $\bar B\to D^{(*)}$ semileptonic decays, and describe NP effects in the complete two-dimensional space associated with the independent kinematic variables on which the polarization vector depends. We find that the detailed study of ${\cal P}^μ$ has great potential to discriminate between different NP scenarios for $0^-\to 0^-$ decays, but also for $Λ_b \to Λ_c$ transitions. For this latter reaction, we pay special attention to corrections to the SM predictions derived from complex Wilson coefficients contributions.

This paper is preoccupied with the following question: given a (possibly opaque) learning system, how can we understand whether its behaviour adheres to governance constraints? The answer can be quite simple: we just need to "ask" the system about it. We propose to construct an investigator agent to query a learning agent -- the suspect agent -- to investigate its adherence to a given ethical policy in the context of an information-seeking dialogue, modeled in formal argumentation settings. This formal dialogue framework is the main contribution of this paper. Through it, we break down compliance checking mechanisms into three modular components, each of which can be tailored to various needs in a vast amount of ways: an investigator agent, a suspect agent, and an acceptance protocol determining whether the responses of the suspect agent comply with the policy. This acceptance protocol presents a fundamentally different approach to aggregation: rather than using quantitative methods to deal with the non-determinism of a learning system, we leverage the use of argumentation semantics to investigate the notion of properties holding consistently. Overall, we argue that the introduced formal dialogue framework opens many avenues both in the area of compliance checking and in the analysis of properties of opaque systems.

The model was implemented in the NEUT Monte Carlo framework, which allows us to investigate potentially measurable observables, including hadron distributions. We compare the predictions simultaneously to the most recent T2K and MINERvA charged current (CC) inclusive, CC0$π$ and transverse kinematic-imbalance variable results. We pursuit a microscopic interpretation of the relevant reaction mechanisms, with the aim of achieving in neutrino oscillation experiments a correct reconstruction of the incoming neutrino kinematics, free of conceptual biasses. Such study is of the utmost importance for the ambitious experimental program which is underway to precisely determine neutrino properties, test the three-generation paradigm, establish the order of mass eigenstates and investigate leptonic CP violation.

Quantum Chromodynamics presents a series of exact and approximate symmetries which can be exploited to predict new hadrons from previously known ones. Here we argue that from SU(3)-flavor symmetry, we should expect the existence of strange partners of the $Z_c$'s with hadronic molecular configurations $D^* \bar{D}_s$-$D \bar{D}_s^*$ and $D^* \bar{D}^{*}_s$ (or, equivalently, quark content $c\bar{c} s \bar{q}$, with $q = u, d$). The quantum numbers of these $Z_{cs}$ and $Z_{cs}^*$ resonances would be $I(J^P)$ = $\frac{1}{2}(1^+)$. The predicted masses of these partners depend on the details of the theoretical scheme used, but they should be around the $D^* \bar{D}_s$-$D \bar{D}_s^*$ and $D^* \bar{D}^{*}_s$ thresholds, respectively. Moreover, any of these states could be either a virtual pole or a resonance. We show that, together with a possible triangle singularity contribution, such a picture nicely agrees with the very recent BESIII data of the $e^+e^-\to K^+(D_s^-D^{*0}+D_s^{*-}D^0)$.

The spectrum of the negative-parity spin-1/2 $Λ$ baryons is studied using lattice QCD and hadronic effective theory in a unitarized coupled-channel framework. A direct comparison between the two approaches is possible by considering the hadronic effective theory in a finite volume and with hadron masses and mesonic decay constants that correspond to the situation studied on the lattice. Comparing the energy level spectrum and $SU(3)$ flavor decompositions of the individual states, it is found that the lowest two states extracted from lattice QCD can be identified with one of the two $Λ(1405)$-poles and the $Λ(1670)$ resonance. The quark mass dependences of these two lattice QCD levels are in good agreement with their effective theory counterparts. However, as current lattice QCD studies still rely on three-quark operators to generate the physical states, clear signals corresponding to the meson-baryon scattering states, that appear in the finite volume effective theory calculation, are not yet seen.

By considering rational agents, we focus on the problem of selecting goals out of a set of incompatible ones. We consider three forms of incompatibility introduced by Castelfranchi and Paglieri, namely the terminal, the instrumental (or based on resources), and the superfluity. We represent the agent's plans by means of structured arguments whose premises are pervaded with uncertainty. We measure the strength of these arguments in order to determine the set of compatible goals. We propose two novel ways for calculating the strength of these arguments, depending on the kind of incompatibility that exists between them. The first one is the logical strength value, it is denoted by a three-dimensional vector, which is calculated from a probabilistic interval associated with each argument. The vector represents the precision of the interval, the location of it, and the combination of precision and location. This type of representation and treatment of the strength of a structured argument has not been defined before by the state of the art. The second way for calculating the strength of the argument is based on the cost of the plans (regarding the necessary resources) and the preference of the goals associated with the plans. Considering our novel approach for measuring the strength of structured arguments, we propose a semantics for the selection of plans and goals that is based on Dung's abstract argumentation theory. Finally, we make a theoretical evaluation of our proposal.

Some abstract argumentation approaches consider that arguments have a degree of uncertainty, which impacts on the degree of uncertainty of the extensions obtained from a abstract argumentation framework (AAF) under a semantics. In these approaches, both the uncertainty of the arguments and of the extensions are modeled by means of precise probability values. However, in many real life situations the exact probabilities values are unknown and sometimes there is a need for aggregating the probability values of different sources. In this paper, we tackle the problem of calculating the degree of uncertainty of the extensions considering that the probability values of the arguments are imprecise. We use credal sets to model the uncertainty values of arguments and from these credal sets, we calculate the lower and upper bounds of the extensions. We study some properties of the suggested approach and illustrate it with an scenario of decision making.
