A Geometric Representation
Abstract: This article provides a geometric representation for the well-known isomorphism between the special orthogonal group of an isotropic quadratic space of dimension 3 and the group of projective transformations of a projective line. This geometric representation depends on the theory of inversive transformations in dimension 1 as outlined in the 2021 article Projective Line Revisited by the same auth… ▽ More

SHREC 2021: Classification in cryo-electron tomograms
Abstract: Cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) is an imaging technique that allows three-dimensional visualization of macro-molecular assemblies under near-native conditions. Cryo-ET comes with a number of challenges, mainly low signal-to-noise and inability to obtain images from all angles. Computational methods are key to analyze cryo-electron tomograms. To promote innovation in computational methods, we… ▽ More

The Triangle Altitudes Theorem in Hyperbolic Plane Geometry

A Note on Cyclotomic Polynomials
Abstract: We present a more general proof that cyclotomic polynomials are irreducible over Q and other number fields that meet certain conditions. The proof provides a new perspective that ties together well-known results, as well as some new consequences, including a necessary condition for the algebraic solution by radicals of certain irreducible polynomials.

An Algebraic Construction of Hyperbolic Planes over a Euclidean Ordered Field
Abstract: Using concepts and techniques of bilinear algebra, we construct hyperbolic planes over a euclidean ordered field that satisfy all the Hilbert axioms of incidence, order and congruence for a basic plane geometry, but for which the hyperbolic version of the parallel axiom holds rather than the classical Euclidean parallel postulate.

Projective Line Revisited
Abstract: This article provides a new perspective on the geometry of a projective line, which helps clarify and illuminate some classical results about projective plane. As part of the same train of ideas, the article also provides a proof of the nine-point circle theorem valid for any affine plane over any field of characteristic different from 2.

Transitivity Demolition and the Falls of Social Networks
Abstract: In this paper, we study crucial elements of a complex network, namely its nodes and connections, which play a key role in maintaining the network's structure and function under unexpected structural perturbations of nodes and edges removal. Specifically, we want to identify vital nodes and edges whose failure (either random or intentional) will break the most number of connected triples (or triang… ▽ More

Vulnerability of Clustering under Node Failure in Complex Networks
Abstract: Robustness in response to unexpected events is always desirable for real-world networks. To improve the robustness of any networked system, it is important to analyze vulnerability to external perturbation such as random failures or adversarial attacks occurring to elements of the network. In this paper, we study an emerging problem in assessing the robustness of complex networks: the vulnerabilit… ▽ More

A Note on Graded Rings and Modules
Abstract: In this note, we consider a situation that is generally used as an intermediate technical step in proving the Artin-Rees lemma but otherwise is not much discussed in introductory accounts of commutative algebra. I hope to show in this note that such technical step deserves more recognition and emphasis in any introduction to commutative algebra because it can be used to prove some significant resu… ▽ More
