Differential branching fraction and angular analysis of the decay $B^{0} \to K^{*0} μ^{+}μ^{-}$

Abstract: The angular distribution and differential branching fraction of the decay $B^{0} \to K^{*0} μ^{+}μ^{-}$ are studied using a data sample, collected by the LHCb experiment in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7\,{\rm TeV}$, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $1.0\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$. Abstract: The first observation of the decay Bs -> D0bar K- π+ is reported. The analysis is based on a data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb-1 of pp collisions, collected with the LHCb detector. First observation of CP violation in the decays of Bs mesons

Abstract: Using pp collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $1.0 \mathrm{fb}^{-1}$, collected by LHCb in 2011 at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, we report the measurement of direct CP violation in $B^0_s \to K^-π^+$ decays, $A_{C/!P}(B^0_s \rightarrow K^- π^+)=0.27 \pm 0.04\,\mathrm{(stat)} \pm 0.01\,\mathrm{(syst)}$, with significance exceeding five standard deviations. No evidence has been found for any signal, and limits have been set at 90% confidence level on the branching fractions: $\cal B(τ^-\rightarrow μ^-μ^+μ^-) < 8.0 \times 10^{-8}$, $\cal B(τ^-\rightarrow \bar{p}μ^+μ^-) < 3.3 \times 10^{-7}$ and $\cal B(τ^-\rightarrow pμ^-μ^-) < 4.4 \times 10^{-7}$. In a sample of 27\,617 B_s^0\to J/ψK^+K^- decays, where the dominant contribution comes from B_s^0\to J/ψφ decays, these parameters are measured to be φ_s = 0.07 \pm 0.09 (stat) \pm 0.01 (syst) rad, Γ_s \equiv (Γ_L+Γ_H)/2 = 0.663 \pm 0.005 (stat) \pm 0.006 (syst) ps^-1, ΔΓ_s \equiv Γ_L -Γ_H = 0.100 \pm 0.016 (stat) \pm 0.003 (syst) & ps^-1, corresponding to the single most precise determination of φ_s, ΔΓ_s and Γ_s. The result of performing a combined analysis with B_s^{0} \to J/ψπ^+π^- decays gives φ_s = 0.01 \pm 0.07 (stat) \pm 0.01 (syst) rad, Γ_s = 0.661 \pm 0.004 (stat) \pm 0.006 (syst) ps^-1, ΔΓ_s = 0.106 \pm 0.011 (stat) \pm 0.007 (syst) & ps^-1. Limits on neutral Higgs boson production in the forward region in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV

The result is based on a dataset, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 $\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$, collected with the LHCb detector. Candidates are identified by reconstructing final states with two muons, a muon and an electron, a muon and a hadron, or an electron and a hadron. A model independent upper limit at the 95% confidence level is set on a neutral Higgs boson cross-section times branching fraction. It varies from 8.6 pb for a Higgs boson mass of 90 GeV to 0.7 pb for a Higgs boson mass of 250 GeV, and is compared to the Standard Model expectation. An upper limit on $\tanβ$ in the Minimal Supersymmetric Model is set in the $m_{h^0}^\mathrm{max}$ scenario. It ranges from 34 for a CP-odd Higgs boson mass of 90 GeV to 70 for a pseudo-scalar Higgs boson mass of 140 GeV. △ Less

First measurement of the CP-violating phase in $B_s^0 \to φφ$ decays

Abstract: The quantum numbers of the X(3872) meson are determined to be JPC = 1++ based on angular correlations in B+ to X(3872) K+ decays, where X(3872) to pi+pi- J/psi and J/psi to μ+μ-. The data correspond to 1.0 fb-1 of pp collisions collected by the LHCb detector. Abstract: First observations and measurements of the branching fractions of the $\bar{B}_s^0\to D^+D^-$, $\bar{B}_s^0\to D_s^+D^-$ and $\bar{B}_s^0\to D^0\bar{D}^0$ decays are presented using 1.0 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected by the LHCb experiment. Theoretical predictions are compared to the measured differential cross-sections. The integrated cross-sections of the charm hadrons are computed in the above p_T-y range, and their ratios are reported. A combination of the five integrated cross-section measurements gives sigma(c\bar{c})_{p_T < 8 GeV/c, 2.0 < y < 4.5} = 1419 +/- 12 (stat) +/- 116 (syst) +/- 65 (frag) microbarn, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the fragmentation functions. △ Less

The cross-section times branching fractions to two muons with pseudorapidities between 2.0 and 4.5 are measured to be $ σ_{pp\rightarrow J/ψ(\rightarrow μ^{+} μ^{-})} (2.0 <η_{μ^{\pm}}< 4.5) = 307 \pm 21 \pm 36 \text{pb}, σ_{pp\rightarrow ψ(2S) (\rightarrow μ^{+} μ^{-})} (2.0 <η_{μ^{\pm}}< 4.5) = 7.8 \pm 1.3 \pm 1.0 \text{pb}, $ where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The measurements are found to be in good agreement with results from previous experiments and theoretical predictions. The $J/ψ$ photoproduction cross-section has been measured as a function of the photon-proton centre-of-mass energy. In the J/ψpi+pi- final state significant production of f0(500) and rho(770) resonances is found, both of which can be used for CP violation studies. In contrast evidence for the f0(980) resonance is not found, thus establishing the first upper limit on the branching fraction product B(B0->J/ψf0(980) x B(f0(980)-> pi+ pi-) < 1.1x10^{-6}, leading to an upper limit on the absolute value of the mixing angle of the f0(980)$ with the f0(500) of <31 degrees, both at 90% confidence level. △ Less

There is evidence for a decrease with increasing transverse momentum, whereas the ratio remains constant as a function of pseudorapidity. The process is measured within the kinematic acceptance pT>20GeV/c and 2<η<4.5 for the daughter electrons and dielectron invariant mass in the range 60--120GeV/c^2. Abstract: Properties of the orbitally excited (L=1) $B_s$ states are studied using 1.0 fb$^{-1}$ of pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} =7$ TeV collected with the LHCb detector. The first observation of the $B_{s2}^*(5840)^0$ meson decaying to $B^{*+} K^-$ is reported, and the corresponding branching fraction measured relative to the $B^+ K^-$ decay mode. The $B_{s1}(5830)^0 \to B^{*+} K^-$ decay is observed as well… ▽ More Properties of the orbitally excited (L=1) $B_s$ states are studied using 1.0 fb$^{-1}$ of pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} =7$ TeV collected with the LHCb detector. The first observation of the $B_{s2}^*(5840)^0$ meson decaying to $B^{*+} K^-$ is reported, and the corresponding branching fraction measured relative to the $B^+ K^-$ decay mode. The $B_{s1}(5830)^0 \to B^{*+} K^-$ decay is observed as well. The width of the $B_{s2}^*(5840)^0$ state is measured for the first time and the masses of the two states are determined with the highest precision to date. The observation of the $B_{s2}^*(5840)^0 \to B^{*+} K^-$ decay favours the spin-parity assignment $J^P = 2^+$ for the $B_{s2}^*(5840)^0$ meson. First evidence for the decay Bs -> mu+ mu-

Abstract: A search for the rare decays Bs->mu+mu- and B0->mu+mu- is performed using data collected in 2011 and 2012 with the LHCb experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The data samples comprise 1.1 fb^-1 of proton-proton collisions at sqrt{s} = 8 TeV and 1.0 fb^-1 at sqrt{s}=7 TeV. We observe an excess of Bs -> mu+ mu- candidates with respect to the background expectation. The probability that the backgr… ▽ More A search for the rare decays Bs->mu+mu- and B0->mu+mu- is performed using data collected in 2011 and 2012 with the LHCb experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The data samples comprise 1.1 fb^-1 of proton-proton collisions at sqrt{s} = 8 TeV and 1.0 fb^-1 at sqrt{s}=7 TeV. We observe an excess of Bs -> mu+ mu- candidates with respect to the background expectation. The probability that the background could produce such an excess or larger is 5.3 x 10^-4 corresponding to a signal significance of 3.5 standard deviations. A maximum-likelihood fit gives a branching fraction of BR(Bs -> mu+ mu-) = (3.2^{+1.5}_{-1.2}) x 10^-9, where the statistical uncertainty is 95% of the total uncertainty. This result is in agreement with the Standard Model expectation. The observed number of B0 -> mu+ mu- candidates is consistent with the background expectation, giving an upper limit of BR(B0 -> mu+ mu-) < 9.4 x 10^-10 at 95% confidence level. △ Less

Abstract: The asymmetry in the production cross-section σof D+/- mesons, A_P = (σ(D+) - σ(D-))/(σ(D+) + σ(D-)), is measured in bins of pseudorapidity ηand transverse momentum p_T within the acceptance of the LHCb detector. The result is obtained with a sample of D+ -> K_S pi+ decays corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb^-1, collected in pp collisions at a centre of mass energy of 7 TeV at the… ▽ More The asymmetry in the production cross-section σof D+/- mesons, A_P = (σ(D+) - σ(D-))/(σ(D+) + σ(D-)), is measured in bins of pseudorapidity ηand transverse momentum p_T within the acceptance of the LHCb detector. First observation of the decay $B^{+} \rightarrow π^{+} μ^{+} μ^{-}$

The branching fractions of these decays are measured relative to that of the $\mathrm{B}^0\to J/ψρ^0$ decay: $$\frac{Br(B^0\to J/ψω)}{Br(B^0\to J/ψρ^0)} = 0.89 \pm0.19(stat)^{+0.07}_{-0.13}(syst)$$ $$\frac{Br(B^0_s\to J/ψη)}{Br(B^0\to J/ψρ^0)} = 14.0 \pm 1.2(stat)^{+1.1}_{-1.5}(syst)^{+1.1}_{-1.0}(\frac{f_d}{f_s}),$$ $$\frac{Br(B^0_s\to J/ψη^{\prime})}{Br(B^0\to J/ψρ^0)} = 12.7\pm1.1(stat)^{+0.5}_{-1.3}(syst)^{+1.0}_{-0.9}(\frac{f_d}{f_s}),$$ where the last uncertainty is due to the knowledge of $f_d/f_s$, the ratio of b-quark hadronization factors that accounts for the different production rate of $B^0$ and $B^0_s$ mesons. Abstract: Evidence for the hadronic annihilation decay mode $B^{+} \to D_s^{+}φ$ is found with greater than $3σ$ significance. The branching fraction and \CP asymmetry are measured to be \mathcal{B}(B^{+} \to D_s^{+}φ) &=& (1.87^{+1.25}_{-0.73}({\rm stat}) \pm 0.19 ({\rm syst}) \pm 0.32 ({\rm norm})) \times 10^{-6}, \mathcal{A}_{CP}(B^{+} \to D_s^{+}φ) &=& -0.01 \pm 0.41 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.03 ({\rm syst}).… ▽ More Evidence for the hadronic annihilation decay mode $B^{+} \to D_s^{+}φ$ is found with greater than $3σ$ significance. The study makes no model-based assumption on the variation of the strong phase of the D decay amplitude over the Dalitz plot, but uses measurements of this quantity from CLEO-c as input. The values of the parameters are found to be $x_- = (0.0 \pm 4.3 \pm 1.5 \pm 0.6) \times 10^{-2}$, $y_- = (2.7 \pm 5.2 \pm 0.8 \pm 2.3) \times 10^{-2}$, $x_+ = (-10.3 \pm 4.5 \pm 1.8 \pm 1.4)\times 10^{-2}$ and $y_+ = (-0.9 \pm 3.7 \pm 0.8 \pm 3.0)\times 10^{-2}$. The first, second, and third uncertainties are the statistical, the experimental systematic, and the error associated with the precision of the strong-phase parameters measured at CLEO-c, respectively. These results correspond to $γ= (44^{\,+43}_{\,-38})^\circ$, with a second solution at $γ\to γ+ 180^\circ$, and $r_B = 0.07 \pm 0.04$, where $r_B$ is the ratio between the suppressed and favoured B decay amplitudes. △ Less

The ratio of the production cross-section times branching fraction between the $B_c^+ \to J/ψπ^+$ and the $B^+ \to J/ψK^+$ decays is measured to be $(0.68 \pm 0.10\,({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.03\,({\rm syst.}) \pm 0.05\,({\rm lifetime}))$% for $B_c^+$ and $B^+$ mesons with transverse momenta $p_{\rm T}>4 $GeV/$c$ and pseudorapidities $2.5<η<4.5$.
