Minimum Expected Distortion in Gaussian Source Coding with Fading Side Information
Abstract: An encoder, subject to a rate constraint, wishes to describe a Gaussian source under squared error distortion. The decoder, besides receiving the encoder's description, also observes side information consisting of uncompressed source symbol subject to slow fading and noise. The decoder knows the fading realization but the encoder knows only its distribution. The rate-distortion function that simul… ▽ More

Completion Time Minimization and Robust Power Control in Wireless Packet Networks
Abstract: A wireless packet network is considered in which each user transmits a stream of packets to its destination. The transmit power of each user interferes with the transmission of all other users. A convex cost function of the completion times of the user packets is minimized by optimally allocating the users' transmission power subject to their respective power constraints. In-gap bound states and tunneling conductance of multiband superconductors through a normal/superconductor/superconductor junction

We show that an in-gap peak in conductance curve is found as a result of the formation of in-gap bound state between the single-band and multiband superconductor junctions if the phases of the superconducting order… ▽ More

Broken time-reversal symmetry in Josephson junction involving two-band superconductors
Abstract: A novel time-reversal symmetry breaking state is found theoretically in the Josephson junction between the two-gap superconductor and the conventional s-wave superconductor. Observation of Plasma Focusing of a 28.5 GeV Positron Beam
Abstract: The observation of plasma focusing of a 28.5 GeV positron beam is reported. The plasma was formed by ionizing a nitrogen jet only 3 mm thick. Simultaneous focusing in both transverse dimensions was observed with effective focusing strengths of order Tesla per micron. The minimum area of the beam spot was reduced by a factor of 2.0 +/- 0.3 by the plasma. The longitudinal beam envelope was measure… ▽ More

Ferroelectrics with Low-energy Electronic Excitations
Abstract: We formulate a general theory of the dielectric response of a lattice with a structural transition and a polarization instability due to a soft-optic mode coupled to low energy electronic excitations by the electromagnetic fields. the electronic excitations considered are in two-limits; those of a low density of free-electrons or those of a low density of strongly localized electrons in the Coul… ▽ More

Properties of a magnetic superconductor with weak magnetization - application to $ErNi_2B_2C$
Abstract: Using a Ginsburg-Landau free energy functional, we study the $H-T$ phase diagram of a weak magnetic superconductor, where the magnetization from the magnetic component is marginal in supporting a spontaneous vortex phase in absence of external magnetic field. In particular, the competition between the spiral state and spontaneous vortex phase is analysed. Our theory is applied to understand the… ▽ More
