Abstract:
ALMA data toward QSO J1851+0035 ($l$=$33.498^{\circ}$, $b$=$+0.194^{\circ}$) were used to study absorption lines by Galactic molecular gas. We detected 17 species (CO, $^{13}$CO, C$^{18}$O, HCO$^+$, H$^{13}$CO$^+$, HCO, H$_2$CO, C$_2$H, $c$-C$_3$H, $c$-C$_3$H$_2$, CN, HCN, HNC, CS, SO, SiO, and C) and set upper limits to 18 species as reference values for chemical models. About 20 independent velocity components at 4.7-10.9 kpc from the Galactic Center were identified. Their column density and excitation temperature estimated from the absorption study, as well as the CO intensity distributions obtained from the FUGIN survey, indicate that the components with $τ$ $\lesssim$ 1 correspond to diffuse clouds or cloud outer edges. Simultaneous multiple-Gaussian fitting of CO $J$=1-0 and $J$=2-1 absorption lines shows that these are composed of narrow- and broad-line components. The kinetic temperature empirically expected from the high HCN/HNC isomer ratio ($\gtrsim$4) reaches $\gtrsim$40 K and the corresponding thermal width accounts for the line widths of the narrow-line components. CN-bearing molecules and hydrocarbons have tight and linear correlations within the groups. The CO/HCO$^+$ abundance ratio showed a dispersion as large as 3 orders of magnitude with a smaller ratio in a smaller $N$(HCO$^+$) (or lower $A_{\rm V}$) range. Some of the velocity components are detected in single-dish CO emission and ALMA HCO$^+$ absorption but without corresponding ALMA CO absorption. This may be explained by the mixture of clumpy CO emitters not resolved with the $\sim$1 pc single-dish beam surrounded by extended components with a very low CO/HCO$^+$ abundance ratio (i.e., CO-poor gas).

Deformation of Kähler Metrics and an Eigenvalue Problem for the Laplacian on a Compact Kähler Manifold
Authors:
Kazumasa Narita
Abstract:
We study an eigenvalue problem for the Laplacian on a compact Kähler manifold. Considering the $k$-th eigenvalue $λ_{k}$ as a functional on the space of Kähler metrics with fixed volume on a compact complex manifold, we introduce the notion of $λ_{k}$-extremal Kähler metric. We deduce a condition for a Kähler metric to be $λ_{k}$-extremal. As examples, we consider product Kähler manifolds, compact…

We search for local extremely metal-poor galaxies (EMPGs), selecting photometric candidates by broadband color excess and machine-learning techniques with the SDSS photometric data. After removing stellar contaminants by shallow spectroscopy with Seimei and Nayuta telescopes, we confirm that three candidates are EMPGs with 0.05--0.1 $Z_\odot$ by deep Magellan/MagE spectroscopy for faint {\sc[Oiii]}$λ$4363 lines. Using a statistical sample consisting of 105 spectroscopically-confirmed EMPGs taken from our study and the literature, we calculate cross-correlation function (CCF) of the EMPGs and all SDSS galaxies to quantify environments of EMPGs. Comparing another CCF of all SDSS galaxies and comparison SDSS galaxies in the same stellar mass range ($10^{7.0}-10^{8.4} M_\odot$), we find no significant ($>1σ$) difference between these two CCFs. We also compare mass-metallicity relations (MZRs) of the EMPGs and those of galaxies at $z\sim$ 0--4 with a steady chemical evolution model and find that the EMPG MZR is comparable with the model prediction on average. These clustering and chemical properties of EMPGs are explained by a scenario of stochastic metal-poor gas accretion on metal-rich galaxies showing metal-poor star formation. Extending the broadband color-excess technique to a high-$z$ EMPG search, we select 17 candidates of $z\sim$ 4--5 EMPGs with the deep ($\simeq30$ mag) near-infrared JWST/NIRCam images obtained by ERO and ERS programs. We find galaxy candidates with negligible {\sc[Oiii]}$λλ$4959,5007 emission weaker than the local EMPGs and known high-$z$ galaxies, suggesting that some of these candidates may fall in 0--0.01 $Z_\odot$, which potentially break the lowest metallicity limit known to date.

Convex Hulls of Grassmannians and Combinatorics of Symmetric Hypermatrices
Authors:

Abstract:
It is known that the complex Grassmannian of $k$-dimensional subspaces can be identified with the set of projection matrices of rank $k$. It is also classically known that the convex hull of this set is the set of Hermitian matrices with eigenvalues between $0$ and $1$ and summing to $k$. We give a new proof of this fact. We also give an existence theorem for a certain combinatorial class of hyper…

It is also classically known that the convex hull of this set is the set of Hermitian matrices with eigenvalues between $0$ and $1$ and summing to $k$. We give a new proof of this fact. We also give an existence theorem for a certain combinatorial class of hypermatrices by a similar argument. This existence theorem can be rewritten into an existence theorem for a uniform weighted hypergraph with given weighted degree sequence.

The nuclear emulsion target of the CHORUS detector was exposed to the wide-band neutrino beam of the CERN SPS of 27 GeV average neutrino energy from 1994 to 1997. In total about 100000 charged-current neutrino interactions with at least one identified muon were located in the emulsion target and fully reconstructed, using newly developed automated scanning systems. Charmed particles were searched for by a program recognizing particle decays. The observation of the decay in nuclear emulsion makes it possible to select a sample with very low background and minimal kinematical bias. 2013 charged-current interactions with a charmed hadron candidate in the final state were selected and confirmed through visual inspection. The charm production rate induced by neutrinos relative to the charged-current cross-section is measured to be sigma(nu_mu N -> mu- C X)/sigma(CC) = (5.75 +-0.32 stat +-0.30 syst)%. The charm production cross-section as a function of the neutrino energy is also obtained. The results are in good agreement with previous measurements. The charm-quark hadronization produces the following charmed hadrons with relative fractions (in %): f_Dzero = 43.7+-4.5, f_Lambda_c^plus = 19.2+-4.2, f_Dplus = 25.3+-4.2, and f_D_splus = 11.8+-4.7.

We report a measurement of the neutrino-electron elastic scattering rate from 8B solar neutrinos based on a 123 kton-day exposure of KamLAND. The background-subtracted electron recoil rate, above a 5.5 MeV analysis threshold is 1.49+/-0.14(stat)+/-0.17(syst) events per kton-day. Interpreted as due to a pure electron flavor flux with a 8B neutrino spectrum, this corresponds to a spectrum integrated flux of 2.77+/-0.26(stat)+/-0.32(syst) x 10^6 cm^-2s^-1. The analysis threshold is driven by 208Tl present in the liquid scintillator, and the main source of systematic uncertainty is due to background from cosmogenic 11Be. The measured rate is consistent with existing measurements and with Standard Solar Model predictions which include matter enhanced neutrino oscillation.

The obtained Q moment, |Q_exp(31Al)| = 112(32)emb, are in agreement with conventional shell model calculations within the sd valence space. Previous result on the magnetic moment also supports the validity of the sd model in this isotope, and thus it is concluded that 31Al is located outside of the island of inversion.
