An algorithm for providing analytical solutions to Schrödinger's equation with non-exactly solvable potentials is elaborated. It represents a symbiosis between the logarithmic expansion method and the techniques of the superymmetric quantum mechanics as extended toward non shape invariant potentials. The complete solution to a given Hamiltonian $H_{0}$ is obtained from the nodeless states of the Hamiltonian $H_{0}$ and of a set of supersymmetric partners $H_{1}, H_{2},..., H_{r}$. The nodeless states (dubbed "edge" states) are unique and in general can be ground or excited states. They are solved using the logarithmic expansion which yields an infinite systems of coupled first order hierarchical differential equations, converted later into algebraic equations with recurrence relations which can be solved order by order. We formulate the aforementioned scheme, termed to as "Supersymmetric Expansion Algorithm'' step by step and apply it to obtain for the first time the complete analytical solutions of the three dimensional Hulthén--, and the one-dimensional anharmonic oscillator potentials.

In this work I show by a first principles calculation that quantum states describing massive relativistic free spinning particles obey kinematical conditions whose origin can be traced to parity as a good quantum number. These conditions are at the root of the equations of motion and of the constraints satisfied by the corresponding fields. In the massless limit, well defined parity is lost but a symmetry emerges related to arbitrary changes in the unphysical parity components. It is shown that this emergent symmetry is the celebrated gauge symmetry.

We find that these contributions improve the fit to the data on the antiproton to proton ratio for the narrow window $M\in [62.470,62.505] \text{ GeV}$ for the tensor dark matter mass and $g_s \in [0.98,1.01]\times 10^{-3}$ for the Higgs portal coupling in the effective theory. These are precisely the range of values compatible with several experimental constraints, such as dark matter relic density, limits on the spin-independent dark matter-nucleon cross-section from XENON1T, indirect detection limits for the annihilation of dark matter into $\bar{b}b$, $τ^+ τ^-$, $μ^+ μ^-$ and $γγ$, as well as with the gamma-ray excess at the Milky Way galactic center.

In this work, we present a phenomenological study of the complete analytical solution to the bound eigenstates and eigenvalues of the Yukawa potential obtained previously using the hidden supersymmetry of the system and a systematic expansion of the Yukawa potential in terms of $δ=a_{0}/D$, where $a_{0}$ is the Bohr radius and $D$ is the screening length. The eigenvalues, $ε_{nl}(δ)$, are given in the form of Taylor series in $δ$ which can be systematically calculated to the desired order $δ^{k}$. Coulomb $l$-degeneracy is broken by the screening effects and, for a given $n$, $ε_{nl}(δ)$ is larger for higher values of $l$ which causes the crossing of levels for $n\ge4$. The convergence radius of the Taylor series can be enlarged up to the critical values using the Padé approximants technique which allows us to calculate the eigenvalues with high precision in the whole rage of values of $δ$ where bound states exist, and to reach a precise determination of the critical screening lengths, $δ_{nl}$. Eigenstates have a form similar to the solutions of the Coulomb potential, with the associated Laguerre polynomials replaced by new polynomials of order $δ^{k}$ with $r$-dependent coefficients which, in turn, are polynomials in $r$. In general we find sizable deviations from the Coulomb radial probabilities only for screening lengths close to their critical values. We use these solutions to find the squared absolute value at the origin of the wave function for $l=0$, and their derivatives for $l=1$, for the lowest states, as functions of $δ$, which enter the phenomenology of dark matter bound states in dark gauge theories with a light dark mediator.

It is shown that custodial symmetry allows us to write the $Z$ and $Z^{\prime}$ couplings to standard model fermions in terms of the measured values of $α$, $G_{F}$, $M_{Z}$ and $M_{Z^{\prime}}$. Working at the loop level, we calculate the ratio $ρ_{0}=M^{2}_{W}/\hat{c}^{2}_{Z}M^{2}_{Z}\hatρ$ used in the fit to electroweak precision data (EWPD) and use its value to estimate possible effects of kinetic mixing at the electroweak scale. For the $Z$ sector, we calculate the oblique parameters $S$ and $T$, finding that for $M_{Z^{\prime}}\geq M_{Z}$ our results are in agreement with the values of the oblique parameters extracted from the global fit to EWPD at $1σ$ level. As to the $Z^{\prime}$ sector, we calculate the $Z^{\prime}$ contributions to charged lepton pair production at the Large Hadron Colliderin the well motivated case of dark matter entering particle physics as the matter fields of the $U(1)_{d}$ gauge symmetry with perturbative couplings at the electroweak scale, finding that data reported by the Compact Muon Selenoid Collaboration impose a lower limit $M_{Z^{\prime}}\gtrsim 5.0 ~TeV$.

In this work we consider the extension of the standard model by dark fields with an Abelian $U(1)_{d}$ spontaneously broken gauge symmetry in a hidden dark matter scenario. Considering all the dimension four gauge invariant terms we show that the tree-level relation $M^{2}_{W}=M^{2}_{\tilde Z} \cos^{2} \tilde θ_{w}$ holds and permits to write the mixing angle induced by the kinetic mixing in the neutral massive gauge boson sector, $θ_ζ$, in terms of the values of $M_{Z}$, the weak mixing angle and of the mass of the physical dark gauge $Z^{\prime}$ boson. At the loop level, a similar relation is obtained in the $\overline{MS}$ scheme. Using the result extracted from the global fit to electroweak precision data for the ratio $ρ_{0}=M^{2}_{W}/\hat{c}^{2}_{Z} M^{2}_{Z}\hatρ$, we obtain a lower bound $M_{Z^{\prime}}> M_{Z}$ for the dark $Z^{\prime}$ mass at the $94\%$ confidence level. We argue that this lower bound holds in the general case of theories for physics beyond the standard model with an extra $U(1)$ gauge factor subgroup, whenever the extended Higgs potential respects custodial symmetry.

In this work we study the possibility that the gamma ray excess (GRE) at the Milky Way galactic center come from the annihilation of dark matter with a $(1,0)\oplus(0,1)$ space-time structure (spin-one dark matter, SODM). We calculate the production of prompt photons from initial state radiation, internal bremsstrahlung, final state radiation including the emission from the decay products of the $μ, τ$ or hadronization of quarks. Next we study the delayed photon emission from the inverse Compton scattering (ICS) of electrons (produced directly or in the prompt decay of $μ, τ$ leptons or in the hadronization of quarks produced in the annihilation of SODM) with the cosmic microwave background or starlight. All these mechanisms yield significant contributions only for Higgs resonant exchange, i.e. for $M\approx M_{H}/2$, and the results depend on the Higgs scalar coupling to SODM, $g_{s}$. The dominant mechanism at the GRE bump is the prompt photon production in the hadronization of $b$ quarks produced in $\bar{D}D\to \bar{b}b$, whereas the delayed photon emission from the ICS of electrons coming from the hadronization of $b$ quarks produced in the same reaction dominates at low energies ($ω< 0.3~ GeV$) and prompt photons from $c$ and $τ$, as well as from internal bremsstrahlung, yield competitive contributions at the end point of the spectrum ($ω\ge 30 ~GeV$). Taking into account all these contributions, our results for photons produced in the annihilation of SODM are in good agreement with the GRE data for $g_{s}\in [0.98, 1.01] \times 10^{-3}$ and $M\in [62.470,62.505]~GeV$.

In this work we study the possibility that dark matter fields transform in the $(1,0)\oplus(0,1)$ representation of the Homogeneous Lorentz Group. In an effective theory approach, we study the lowest dimension interacting terms of dark matter with standard model fields, assuming that dark matter fields transform as singlets under the standard model gauge group. There are three dimension-four operators, two of them yielding a Higgs portal to dark matter. The third operator couple the photon and $Z^0$ fields to the higher multipoles of dark matter, yielding a \textit{spin portal} to dark matter. For dark matter ($D$) mass below a half of the $Z^0$ mass, the decays $Z^0\to \bar{D} D$ and $H\to \bar{D}D$ are kinematically allowed and contribute to the invisible widths of the $Z^0$ and $H$. We calculate these decays and use experimental results on these invisible widths to constrain the values of the low energy constants finding in general that effects of the spin portal can be more important that those of the Higgs portal. We calculate the dark matter relic density in our formalism, use the constraints on the low energy constants from the $Z^0$ and $H$ invisible widths and compare our results with the measured relic density, finding that dark matter with a $(1,0)\oplus(0,1)$ space-time structure must have a mass $M>43 ~ GeV$.

Massive neutrinos can have helicity $s_{\parallel}\neq -1$. Neutrino helicity changes when the neutrino interacts with an external magnetic field and it is possible that the left-handed neutrinos born inside the Sun or a supernova could leave their sources with a different helicity. Since Dirac and Majorana neutrinos have different cross sections in the scattering on electrons for different neutrino helicities, a change in the final neutrino helicity may generate a different number of events and spectra in terrestrial detectors when astrophysical neutrinos have travelled regions with strong magnetic fields. In this work, we show that looking for these effects in solar neutrinos, it could be possible to set bounds in the neutrino properties such as the neutrino magnetic moment. Furthermore, for neutrinos coming from a supernova, we show that even in the case of an extremely small neutrino magnetic moment, $μ_ν\sim 10^{-19}μ_B$, there will be measurable differences in both the number of events and in the spectra of Majorana and Dirac neutrinos.

Spin-one matter fields are relevant both for the description of hadronic states and as potential extensions of the Standard Model. In this work we present a formalism for the description of massive spin-one fields transforming in the $(1,0)\oplus(0,1)$ representation of the Lorentz group, based on the covariant projection onto parity eigenspaces and Poincaré orbits. The formalism yields a constrained dynamics. We solve the constraints and perform the canonical quantization accordingly. This formulation uses the recent construction of a parity-based covariant basis for matrix operators acting on the $(j,0)\oplus(0,j) $ representations. The algebraic properties of the covariant basis play an important role in solving the constraints and allowing the canonical quantization of the theory. We study the chiral structure of the theory and conclude that it is not chirally symmetric in the massless limit, hence it is not possible to have chiral gauge interactions. However, spin-one matter fields can have vector gauge interactions. Also, the dimension of the field makes self-interactions naively renormalizable. Using the covariant basis, we classify all possible naively renormalizable self-interaction terms.

Using the recent parity-based construction of a covariant basis for operators acting on the $(j,0)\oplus(0,j)$ representation of the HLG, we propose a formalism for the description of high spin matter fields, based on the projection over subspaces of well-defined parity. We identify two possibilities for the projection, on-shell and off-shell projection. For all $j$ except for $j=1/2$, we find that the projection does not completely fix the properties of the interacting theory. This freedom is related to the fact that the covariant form of parity can be written in terms of one of the symmetric traceless tensors in the covariant basis and in general allows for a free magnetic dipole term in the lagrangian. We gauge the theory and construct the charge conjugation operator. In the case of bosons, the parity invariant subspaces are also invariant under charge conjugation and time reversal and the formulation of a quantum field theory can be done using only these subspaces. As a first exhaustive example we work out the electrodynamics for $j=1$ matter bosons, rewrite the theory in terms of an antisymmetric tensor field and compare our results with existing formalisms in the literature. We find that there are three essentially different formalisms: i) formalisms equivalent to the on-shell parity projection, ii) formalisms equivalent to the off-shell parity projection and iii) the Poincaré projector formalism which describes a degenerate parity doublet. We perform a chiral decomposition of these theories and show that chiral symmetry can be realized linearly only for the theory based on the on-shell projection. Chiral symmetry forbids mass and anomalous magnetic dipole terms and in general admits six self-interaction terms. We conclude that this is the appropriate framework to attempt the incorporation of spin 1 matter bosons in chiral theories like the standard model.

In this work, we build a covariant basis for operators acting on the $(j,0)\oplus(0,j)$ Lorentz group representations. The construction is based on an analysis of the covariant properties of the parity operator, which for these representations transforms as the completely temporal component of a symmetrical tensor of rank $2j$. The covariant properties of parity involve the Jordan algebra of anti commutators of the Lorentz group generators which unlike the Lie algebra is not universal. We make the construction explicit for $j=1/2,1$ and $3/2$, reproducing well-known results for the $j=1/2$ case. We provide an algorithm for the corresponding calculations for arbitrary $j$. This covariant basis provides an inventory of all the possible interaction terms for gauge and non-gauge theories of fields for these representations. In particular, it supplies a single second rank antisymmetric structure, which in the Poincaré projector formalism implies a single Pauli term arising from gauge interactions and a single (free) parameter $g$, the gyromagnetic factor. This simple structure predicts that for an elementary particle in this formalism all multipole moments, $Q^{l}_{E}$ and $Q^{l}_{M}$, are dictated by the complete algebraic structure of the Lorentz generators and the value of $g$. We explicitly calculate the multipole moments, for arbitrary $j$ up to $l=8$. Comparing with results in the literature we find that only the electric charge and magnetic moment of a spin $j$ particle are independent of the Lorentz representation under which it transforms, all higher multipoles being representation dependent. Finally we show that the propagation of the corresponding spin $j$ waves in a electromagnetic background is causal.

Relativistic particles with spins $J>0$ are described by means of multicomponent wave functions which transform covariantly according to Lorentz-group representations that contain at rest the spin of interest. The symmetry group of space-time provides not one but an infinity of such representations which are equivalent for free particles but yield different electromagnetic couplings upon gauging; thus the challenge is to develop criteria which allow us to select those of them which relate to physically detectable particles. We here take the position that the unitarity of the Compton scattering cross sections in the ultrarelativistic limit, when predicted by a consistent method for a spin-$1$ description, could provide such a criterion. We analyze the properties of massive fundamental spin-$1$ bosons transforming as antisymmetric tensors of second rank, $(1,0)\oplus(0,1)$. For this purpose, we employ the Poincaré covariant projector method, which provides consistent, causal, and representation specific Lagrangians. This formalism yields a twofold extension of the Proca Lagrangian for the description of spin-$1$ bosons, first from an in-built $g=1$ value of the gyromagnetic ratio to an unspecified $g\not=1$, and from, single-parity, to parity-doublet degrees of freedom. We find different results for Compton scattering in these theories and track the differences to the lack of universality of the vector-antisymmetric-tensor equivalence theorem which is specific only to Proca's framework, and valid for $g=1$, while it is violated within the covariant projector formalism. Our main result is that a finite Compton scattering differential cross section in the ultrarelativistic limit requires us to consider the contributions of both parities in $(1,0)\oplus(0,1)$. On that basis, we conclude that massive spin-$1$ bosons transforming as antisymmetric tensors are physical parity doublets.

A general analysis of the consequences of including a fourth neutrino in the standard model matter content, on CP violating observables at neutrino oscillation experiments, is presented. Neutrino oscillations in vacuum and with matter effects are studied. For the former we update and generalize previous studies on CP asymmetries with an additional active neutrino using an updated fit of the PMNS mixing matrix. We study the values of the new CP violating phases which maximize the different CP asymmetries in T2K and MINOS-like setups aiming to elucidate if the new phases yield measurable effects in the most favorable case. We show that due to a combined effect of kinematics and unitarity it is possible to obtain an observable asymmetry in the survival channels without violating CPT. For the MINOS-like setup, we find maximum asymmetries in vacuum of the order of 2% and 4% for the $ν_μ\to ν_e$ and $ν_e \to ν_τ$ channels respectively. For the T2K-like setup we obtain maximum asymmetries of the order of 6% in the survival $ν_μ\to ν_μ$ channel. Tree level matter effects enhance the former reaching asymmetries of the order of 10% for the $ν_μ\to ν_e$ and $ν_e \to ν_τ$ channels, while the $ν_μ\to ν_μ$ survival channel changes slightly depending on the mass hierarchy. Box diagrams with the fourth mass eigenstate as a virtual particle were also considered, the corrections to the scattering amplitude being negligible.

We study the one-loop level renormalization of the electrodynamics of spin 1/2 fermions in the Poincaré projector formalism, in arbitrary covariant gauge and including fermion self-interactions, which are dimension four operators in this framework. We show that the model is renormalizable for arbitrary values of the tree level gyromagnetic factor g within the validity region of the perturbative expansion, αg^2 << 1. In the absence of tree level fermion self-interactions, we recover the pure QED of second order fermions, which is renormalizable only for |g|=2. We study multipole decompositions of the electromagnetic currents of spin-1/2, 1, and 3/2 particles described in terms of Lagrangians designed to reproduce representation specific wave equations which are second order in the momenta and which emerge within the recently elaborated Poincaré covariant projector method. We calculate the electric multipoles of the above spins for the spinor, the four-vector, and the four-vector--spinor representations, attend to the most general non-Lagrangian spin-3/2 currents which are allowed by Lorentz invariance to be of third order in the momenta and construct the linear current equivalent of identical multipole moments of one of them. We conclude that such non-Lagrangian currents are not necessarily more general than the two-term currents emerging within the covariant projector method. We compare our results with those of the conventional Proca-, and Rarita-Schwinger frameworks. Finally, we test the representation dependence of the multipoles by placing spin-1 and spin-3/2 in the respective (1,0)$\oplus$(0,1), and (3/2,0)$\oplus$(0,3/2) single-spin representations. We observe representation independence of the charge monopoles and the magnetic dipoles, in contrast to the higher multipoles, which turn out to be representation dependent. In particular, we find the bi-vector $(1,0)\oplus (0,1)$ to be characterized by an electric quadrupole moment of opposite sign to the one found in $(1/2,1/2)$, and consequently, to the $W$ boson. Our finding points toward the possibility that the $ρ$ meson could transform as part of an antisymmetric tensor with an $a_{1}$ meson-like state as its representation companion.

In this work we study the renormalization of the electrodynamics of spin 1/2 fermions in the Poincaré projector formalism which is second order in the derivatives of the fields. We analyze the superficial degree of divergence of the vertex functions of this theory, calculate at one-loop level the vacuum polarization, fermion self-energy and γ-fermion-fermion vertex function and the divergent piece of the one-loop contributions to the γ-γ-fermion-fermion vertex function. It is shown that these functions are renormalizable independently of the value of the gyromagnetic factor g which is a free parameter of the theory. We find a photon propagator and a running coupling constant α(q^2) that depend on the value of g. The magnetic moment form factor contains a divergence associated to g which disappears for g=2 but in general requires the coupling g to be renormalized. A suitable choice of the renormalization condition for the magnetic form factor yields the one loop finite correction Δ{g}=gα/2π. For a particle with g=2 we recover results of Dirac theory for the photon propagator, the running of α(q^2) and the one-loop corrections to the gyromagnetic factor.

We present the sensitivity of HAWC to Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs). HAWC is a very high-energy gamma-ray observatory currently under construction in Mexico at an altitude of 4100 m. It will observe atmospheric air showers via the water Cherenkov method. HAWC will consist of 300 large water tanks instrumented with 4 photomultipliers each. HAWC has two data acquisition (DAQ) systems. The main DAQ system reads out coincident signals in the tanks and reconstructs the direction and energy of individual atmospheric showers. The scaler DAQ counts the hits in each photomultiplier tube (PMT) in the detector and searches for a statistical excess over the noise of all PMTs. We show that HAWC has a realistic opportunity to observe the high-energy power law components of GRBs that extend at least up to 30 GeV, as it has been observed by Fermi LAT. The two DAQ systems have an energy threshold that is low enough to observe events similar to GRB 090510 and GRB 090902b with the characteristics observed by Fermi LAT. HAWC will provide information about the high-energy spectra of GRBs which in turn could help to understanding about e-pair attenuation in GRB jets, extragalactic background light absorption, as well as establishing the highest energy to which GRBs accelerate particles.

We develop a second order formalism for spin 1/2 fermions based on the projection over Poincaré invariant subspaces in the $(1/2,0)\oplus(0,1/2)$ representation of the homogeneous Lorentz group. Using $U(1)_{em}$ gauge principle we obtain second order description for the electromagnetic interactions of a spin 1/2 fermion with two free parameters, the gyromagnetic factor $g$ and a parameter $ξ$ related to odd-parity Lorentz structures. We calculate Compton scattering in this formalism. In the particular case $g=2, ξ=0$ and for states with well defined parity we recover Dirac results. In general, we find the correct classical limit and a finite value $r_{c}^{2}$ for the forward differential cross section, independent of the photon energy and of the value of the parameters $g$ and $ξ$. The differential cross section vanishes at high energies for all $g, ξ$ except in the forward direction. The total cross section at high energies vanishes only for $g=2, ξ=0$. We argue that this formalism is more convenient than Dirac theory in the description of low energy electromagnetic properties of baryons and illustrate the point with the proton case.

Adding a fourth generation to the Standard Model and assuming it to be valid up to some cutoff Λ, we show that electroweak symmetry is broken by radiative corrections due to the fourth generation. The effects of the fourth generation are isolated using a Lagrangian with a genuine scalar without self-interactions at the classical level. For masses of the fourth generation consistent with electroweak precision data (including the B \rightarrow K π CP asymmetries) we obtain a Higgs mass of the order of a few hundreds GeV and a cutoff Λ around 1-2 TeV. We study the reliability of the perturbative treatment used to obtain these results taking into account the running of the Yukawa couplings of the fourth quark generation with the aid of the Renormalization Group (RG) equations, finding similar allowed values for the Higgs mass but a slightly lower cut-off due to the breaking of the perturbative regime. Such low cut-off means that the effects of new physics needed to describe electroweak interactions at energy above Λ should be measurable at the LHC. We use the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model with four generations as an explicit example of models realizing the dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking by radiative corrections and containing new physics. Here, the cutoff is replaced by the masses of the squarks and electroweak symmetry breaking by radiative corrections requires the squark masses to be of the order of 1 TeV.

Although the latter contribution is formally sub-leading, it is enhanced at low dipion invariant mass due to $ρ$ resonant effects. We consider also four alternative models to describe the final state radiation at the loop level: Resonance Chiral Perturbation Theory, Unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory, Kaon Loop Model and Linear Sigma Model. The last three models yield results compatible with experimental data. The Kaon Loop Model requires an energy dependent phase to achieve the agreement.

We calculate Compton scattering off an elementary spin 3/2 particle in a recently proposed framework for the description of elementary high spin fields based on the projection onto eigen-subspaces of the Casimir operators of the Poincare group. We also calculate this process in the conventional Rarita-Schwinger formalism. Both formalisms yield the correct Thomson limit but the predictions for the angular distribution and total cross section differ beyond this point. We point out that the average squared amplitudes in the forward direction for Compton scattering off targets with spin s = 0, 1/2, 1 are energy-independent and have the common value 4e^4. As a consequence, in the rest frame of the particle the differential cross section for Compton scattering in the forward direction is energy independent and coincides with the classical squared radius. We show that these properties are also satisfied by a spin 3/2 target in the Poincare projector formalism but not by the Rarita-Schwinger spin 3/2 particle.

In this talk I summarize recent findings around the description of axial vector mesons as dynamically generated states from the interaction of pseudoscalar mesons and vector mesons, dedicating some attention to the two $K_1(1270)$ states. Then I review the generation of open and hidden charm scalar and axial states, and how some recent experiment supports the existence of the new hidden charm scalar state predicted. I present recent results showing that the low lying $1/2^+$ baryon resonances for S=-1 can be obtained as bound states or resonances of two mesons and one baryon in coupled channels. Then show the differences with the S=0 case, where the $N^*(1710)$ appears also dynamically generated from the two pion one nucleon system, but the $N^*(1440)$ does not appear, indicating a more complex structure of the Roper resonance. Finally I shall show how the state X(2175), recently discovered at BABAR and BES, appears naturally as a resonance of the $φK \bar{K}$ system.

We perform a Faddeev calculation for the three mesons system, $φK \bar{K}$, taking the interaction between two pseudoscalar mesons and between a vector and a pseudoscalar meson from the chiral unitary approach. We obtain a neat resonance peak around a total mass of 2150 MeV and an invariant mass for the $K \bar{K}$ system around 970 MeV, very close to the $f_0(980)$ mass. The state appears in I=0 and qualifies as a $φf_0(980)$ resonance. We enlarge the space of states including $φππ$, since $ππ$ and $K \bar{K}$ build up the $f_0$ (980), and find moderate changes that serve to quantify theoretical uncertainties. No state is seen in I=1. This finding provides a natural explanation for the recent state found at BABAR and BES, the X(2175), which decays into $φf_0(980)$.

On the basis of the three fundamental principles of (i) Poincaré symmetry of space time, (ii) electromagnetic gauge symmetry, and (iii) unitarity, we construct an universal Lagrangian for the electromagnetic interactions of elementary vector particles, i.e., massive spin-1 particles transforming in the /1/2,1/2) representation space of the Homogeneous Lorentz Group (HLG). We make the point that the first two symmetries alone do not fix the electromagnetic couplings uniquely but solely prescribe a general Lagrangian depending on two free parameters, here denoted by ξand g. The first one defines the electric-dipole and the magnetic-quadrupole moments of the vector particle, while the second determines its magnetic-dipole and electric-quadrupole moments. In order to fix the parameters one needs an additional physical input suited for the implementation of the third principle. As such, one chooses Compton scattering off a vector target and requires the cross section to respect the unitarity bounds in the high energy limit. In result, we obtain the universal g=2, and ξ=0 values which completely characterize the electromagnetic couplings of the considered elementary vector field at tree level. The nature of this vector particle, Abelian versus non-Abelian, does not affect this structure. Merely, a partition of the g=2 value into non-Abelian, g_{na}, and Abelian, g_{a}=2-g_{na}, contributions occurs for non-Abelian fields with the size of g_{na} being determined by the specific non-Abelian group appearing in the theory of interest, be it the Standard Model or any other theory.

In this work we study the e^{+}e^{-}\toφK^{+}K^{-} reaction. The leading order electromagnetic contributions to this process involve the γ*φ K^{+}K^{-} vertex function with a highly virtual photon. We calculate this function at low energies using RχPT supplemented with the anomalous term for the VV'P interactions. Tree level contributions involve the kaon form factors and the K*K transition form factors. We improve this result, valid for low photon virtualities, replacing the lowest order terms in the kaon form factors and K*K transition form factors by the form factors as obtained in UχPT in the former case and the ones extracted from recent data on e^{+}e^{-}\to KK* in the latter case. We calculate rescattering effects which involve meson-meson amplitudes. The corresponding result is improved using the unitarized meson-meson amplitudes containing the scalar poles instead of the lowest order terms. Using the BABAR value for BR(X\to φf_{0})Γ(X\to e^{+} e^{-}), we calculate the contribution from intermediate X(2175). A good description of data is obtained in the case of destructive interference between this contribution and the previous ones, but more accurate data on the isovector K*K transition form factor is required in order to exclude contributions from an intermediate isovector resonance to e^{+}e^{-}\to φ K^{+}K^{-} around 2.2 GeV.

Upon gauging this W^{2} invariant subspace of ψ_μ is shown to couple to the electromagnetic field in a fully covariant fashion already at zeroth order of 1/m and with the correct gyromagnetic factor of g_{s}=\frac{1}{s}. The gauged equation is hyperbolic and hence free from the Velo-Zwanziger problem of acausal propagation within an electromagnetic field at least to that order.

We point out that the spectrum of pseudoscalar and scalar mesons exhibits a cuasi-degenerate chiral nonet in the energy region around 1.4 GeV whose scalar component has a slightly inverted spectrum. Based on the empirical linear rising of the mass of a hadron with the number of constituent quarks which yields a mass around $1.4 $GeV for tetraquarks, we conjecture that this cuasi-chiral nonet arises from the mixing of a chiral nonet composed of tetraquarks with conventional bar{q}q states. We explore this possibility in the framework of a chiral model assuming a tetraquark chiral nonet around 1.4 GeV with chiral symmetry realized directly. We stress that U_{A}(1) transformations can distinguish bar{q}q from tetraquark states, although it cannot distinguish specific dynamics in the later case. We find that the measured spectrum is consistent with this picture. In general, pseudoscalar states arise as mainly bar{q}q states but scalar states turn out to be strong admixtures of bar{q}q and tetraquark states. We work out also the model predictions for the most relevant couplings and calculate explicitly the strong decays of the a_{0}(1450) and K_{0}^*(1430) mesons. From the comparison of some of the predicted couplings with the experimental ones we conclude that observable for the isovector and isospinor sectors are consistently described within the model. The proper description of couplings in the isoscalar sectors would require the introduction of glueball fields which is an important missing piece in the present model.

We point out that meson spectrum indicates the existence of a degenerate chiral nonet in the energy region around 1.4 GeV with a slightly inverted spectrum with respect to a qq nonet. Based on this observation, the approximately linear rising of the mass of a hadron with the number of constituent quarks, and the existence of a cuasidegenerate pseudoscalar nonet, we conjecture the existence of a tetraquark chiral nonet in this energy region with chiral symmetry implemented directly. We realize this idea in a chiral model and take into account the mixing of the tetraquark chiral nonet with a conventional qq nonet. We find that the mass spectrum of mesons below 1.5 GeV is consistent with this picture. In general, pseudoscalar states arise as mainly qq states but scalar states turn out to be strong admixtures of qq and tetraquark states.

We propose to describe higher spins as invariant subspaces of the Casimir operators of the Poincaré Group, P^{2}, and the squared Pauli-Lubanski operator, W^{2}, in a properly chosen representation, ψ(p) (in momentum space), of the Homogeneous Lorentz Group. The resulting equation of motion for any field with s\neq0 is then just a specific combination of the respective covariant projectors. We couple minimally electromagnetism to this equation and show that the corresponding wave fronts of the classical solutions propagate causally. Furthermore, for (s,0)+(0,s) representations, the formalism predicts the correct gyromagnetic factor, g_{s}=1/s. The advocated method allows to describe any higher spin without auxiliary conditions and by one covariant matrix equation alone. This master equation is only quadratic in the momenta and its dimensionality is that of ψ(p). We prove that the suggested master equation avoids the Velo-Zwanziger problem of superluminal propagation of higher spin waves and points toward a consistent description of higher spin quantum fields.

We formulate the equation of motion corresponding to the identification of elementary systems with states in the invariant subspaces of the squared Pauli-Lubanski operator and couple minimally to electromagnetism the corresponding equation for the (s,0)+(0,s) representation space using the gauge principle. We obtain g=1/s for particles with arbitrary spin s as conjectured by Belinfante long ago.

In this work we review the derivation of Dirac and Weinberg equations based on a ``principle of indistinguishability'' for the (j,0) and (0,j) irreducible representations (irreps) of the Homogeneous Lorentz Group (HLG). We generalize this principle and explore its consequences for other irreps containing spin >= 1. We rederive Ahluwalia-Kirchbach equation using this principle and conclude that it yields O(p^{2j}) equations of motion for any representation containing spin j and lower spins. We also use the obtained generators of the HLG for a given representation to explore the possibility of the existence of first order equations for that representation. We show that, except for j=1/2, there exists no Dirac-like equation for the (j,0)\oplus (0,j) representation nor for the (1/2,1/2) representation. We rederive Kemmer-Duffin-Petieau (KDP) equation for the (1,0)\oplus (1/2,1/2)\oplus(0,1) representation by this method and show that the (1,1/2)\oplus (1/2,1) representation satisfies a Dirac-like equation which describes a multiplet of j=3/2 and j=1/2 with masses m and m/2} respectively.

For the first two decays this approach improves results based on the anomalous Wess-Zumino term, with contributions due to SU(3) symmetry breaking and vector mixing. The phi to (omega, rho) gamma gamma decays are dominated by resonant eta' exchange . Our calculation for the later decays improves and update similar calculations in the -closely related- framework of vector meson dominance. We obtain BR(phi to rho gamma gamma)=2.5x10^{-5} and BR(phi to omega gamma gamma)=2.8x10^{-6} within the scope of the high-luminosity phi factories.

The recently reported data on $φ\toπ^0π^0γ$ coming from the VEPP-2M $e^+ e^-$ collider in Novosibirsk and the DA$Φ$NE $φ$-factory in Frascati can be reasonably described in our approach, which we propose as a promising first step towards more detailed analyses. The $f_0(980)$ contribution, which appears as a moderately narrow peak at the high part of the dipion mass spectrum, can be interpreted as the isoscalar member of the scalar nonet with a large $f_0 K\bar{K}$ coupling and an $f_0ππ$ coupling suppressed by almost ideal $σ$-$f_0$ mixing. Indeed, the mixing angle in the flavour basis is found to be $φ_{S}\approx -6^\circ$, if the $f_0$-propagator is approximated by a simple Breit-Wigner, or $φ_{S}\approx -9^\circ$, if an improved two-channel analysis is performed. The $σ(500)$ resonance, which is then strongly coupled to pion pairs, yields a tiny contribution because, in our approach, its coupling to kaon pairs is proportional to $m^2_σ-m^2_K$ and thus quite small.

We show that the only effect of the U_A(1) anomaly in these processes is in the formation of the eta and eta' systems. From experimental data on their two photon decays we extract the pseudoscalar mixing angle in flavor basis as phi_P in [38.4 deg, 41.0 deg ].

We investigate the relevance of the instanton-induced determinantal 't Hooft interaction to the eta-nucleon coupling within the framework of a three-flavor linear sigma model in the OZI-rule-respecting basis. Instantons, in combination with the spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry, are shown to provide the major mechanism for the ideal mixing between pseudoscalar strange and non-strange quarkonia. As long as 't Hooft's interaction captures most of the basic features of the axial QCD gluon anomaly, we identify the anomaly as the main culprit for the appearance of octet flavor symmetry in the anomalous sectors of the pseudoscalar (and axial vector) mesons. Within this context, unitary spin is shown to be an accidental symmetry due to anomalous gluon dynamics rather than a fundamental symmetry in its own right. Though we find the eta-nucleon coupling constant to obey a Goldberger-Treiman like relation, the latter does not take its origin from a pole dominance of the induced pseudoscalar form factor of the octet axial current, but from a subtle flavor-mixing mechanism that is traced back to instanton dynamics. The model presented allows for possible generalizations to non-ideal mixing angles and different values of the meson decay constants in the strange and non-strange sectors, respectively. Finally, we discuss the issue as to what extent the eta meson may be considered as a Goldstone boson under the constraints of the anomaly-produced unitary spin.
