We construct compactifications of type IIB string theory that yield, at leading order in the $α^\prime$ and $g_s$ expansions, de Sitter vacua of the form envisioned by Kachru, Kallosh, Linde, and Trivedi. We specify explicit Calabi-Yau orientifolds and quantized fluxes for which we derive the four-dimensional effective supergravity theories, incorporating the exact flux superpotential, the nonperturbative superpotential from Euclidean D3-branes, and the Kähler potential at tree level in the string loop expansion but to all orders in $α'$. Each example includes a Klebanov-Strassler throat region containing a single anti-D3-brane, whose supersymmetry-breaking energy, computed at leading order in $α'$, causes an uplift to a metastable de Sitter vacuum in which all moduli are stabilized. Finding vacua that demonstrably survive subleading corrections, and in which the quantization conditions are completely understood, is an important open problem for which this work has prepared the foundations.

Abstract:
We enumerate topologically-inequivalent compact Calabi-Yau threefold hypersurfaces. By computing arithmetic and algebraic invariants and the Gopakumar-Vafa invariants of curves, we prove that the number of distinct simply connected Calabi-Yau threefold hypersurfaces resulting from triangulations of four-dimensional reflexive polytopes is 4, 27, 183, 1,184 and 8,036 at $h^{1,1}$ = 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5…

We also establish that there are ten equivalence classes of Wall data of non-simply connected Calabi-Yau threefolds from the Kreuzer-Skarke list. Finally, we give a provisional count of threefolds obtained by enumerating non-toric flops at $h^{1,1} =2$.

The emerging study of fractons, a new type of quasi-particle with restricted mobility, has motivated the construction of several classes of interesting continuum quantum field theories with novel properties. One such class consists of foliated field theories which, roughly, are built by coupling together fields supported on the leaves of foliations of spacetime. Another approach, which we refer to as exotic field theory, focuses on constructing Lagrangians consistent with special symmetries (like subsystem symmetries) that are adjacent to fracton physics. A third framework is that of infinite-component Chern-Simons theories, which attempts to generalize the role of conventional Chern-Simons theory in describing (2+1)D Abelian topological order to fractonic order in (3+1)D. The study of these theories is ongoing, and many of their properties remain to be understood.
Historically, it has been fruitful to study QFTs by embedding them into string theory. One way this can be done is via D-branes, extended objects whose dynamics can, at low energies, be described in terms of conventional quantum field theory. QFTs that can be realized in this way can then be analyzed using the rich mathematical and physical structure of string theory. In this paper, we show that foliated field theories, exotic field theories, and infinite-component Chern-Simons theories can all be realized on the world-volumes of branes. We hope that these constructions will ultimately yield valuable insights into the physics of these interesting field theories.

In recent work, we conjectured that Calabi-Yau threefolds defined over $\mathbb{Q}$ and admitting a supersymmetric flux compactification are modular, and associated to (the Tate twists of) weight-two cuspidal Hecke eigenforms. In this work, we will address two natural follow-up questions, of both a physical and mathematical nature, that are surprisingly closely related. First, in passing from a complex manifold to a rational variety, as we must do to study modularity, we are implicitly choosing a "rational model" for the threefold; how do different choices of rational model affect our results? Second, the same modular forms are associated to elliptic curves over $\mathbb{Q}$; are these elliptic curves found anywhere in the physical setup? By studying the F-theory uplift of the supersymmetric flux vacua found in the compactification of IIB string theory on (the mirror of) the Calabi-Yau hypersurface $X$ in $\mathbb{P}(1,1,2,2,2)$, we find a one-parameter family of elliptic curves whose associated eigenforms exactly match those associated to $X$. Actually, we find two such families, corresponding to two different choices of rational models for the same family of Calabi-Yaus.

There has been considerable recent interest in holographic complexity. The two leading conjectures on this subject hold that the quantum complexity of the boundary thermofield double state should be dual to either the volume of the Einstein-Rosen bridge connecting the two sides (CV conjecture) or to the action of the Wheeler-de-Witt patch of the bulk spacetime (CA conjecture). Although these conjectures are frequently studied in the context of pure Einstein gravity, from the perspective of string theory it is also natural to consider models of gravity in which general relativity is perturbed by higher powers of the Riemann tensor, suppressed by powers of the string length; in a holographic context, these corrections are dual to corrections in inverse powers of the 't Hooft coupling. In this paper, we investigate the CV and CA conjectures in two stringy models of higher-curvature gravity. We find that the CV complexification rate remains well-behaved, but conversely that these corrections induce new divergences in the CA complexification rate that are absent in pure Einstein gravity. These divergences are intrinsically linked to the singularity, and appear to be generic in higher curvature theories. To the best of our knowledge, infinities originating at the singularity have not yet been observed elsewhere in the literature. We argue that these divergences imply that, in the CA picture, the complexification rate of the boundary theory is a nonanalytic function of the 't Hooft coupling.

The microscopic spectrum of half-BPS excitations in toroidally compactified heterotic string theory has been computed exactly through the use of results from analytic number theory. Recently, similar quantities have been understood macroscopically by evaluating the gravitational path integral on the M-theory lift of the AdS2 near-horizon geometry of the corresponding black hole. In this paper, we generalize these results to a subset of the CHL models, which include the standard compactification of IIA on $K3\times T^2$ as a special case. We begin by develo** a Rademacher-like expansion for the Fourier coefficients of the partition functions for these theories, which are modular forms for congruence subgroups. We then interpret these results in a macroscopic setting by evaluating the path integral for the reduced-rank $\mathcal{N} = 4$ supergravities described by these CFTs.

It has been shown that AdS/CFT calculations can reproduce certain exclusive 2->2 cross sections in QCD at high energy, both for near-forward and for fixed-angle scattering. In this paper, we extend prior treatments by using AdS/CFT to calculate the inclusive single-particle production cross section in QCD at high center-of-mass energy. We find that conformal invariance in the UV restricts the cross section to have a characteristic power-law falloff in the transverse momentum of the produced particle, with the exponent given by twice the conformal dimension of the produced particle, independent of incoming particle types. We conclude by comparing our findings to recent LHC experimental data from ATLAS and ALICE, and find good agreement.
